Just realized that Flea is not only a great bassist but he's also a very good teacher. I love how he kept saying the word "practice", "develop your own style". So articulate. He seems like a nice, humble musician.
"having or showing the ability to speak fluently and coherently." Anything is articulate. It doesn't have to be archaic Shakespearean language in order to be articulate.

Hello, I am a professional bassist that has been playing for 35+ years and I want to say I have the utmost respect for Flea. Flea knows how to hold down a bands foundation. There are a lot of young players that have a lot of technique and tricks, but when it comes to holding down a band and rocking and locking in a whole 3 hour show consistently they are seriously lacking. Flea has rocked the biggest stages...all over the world. I've come to learn, it's not all about technique and the most legendary players know this...it is about heart, soul and attitude and Flea has tons of all 3. But you can sit in your bedroom and put him down and go to your grocery store job... if it makes you feel better...Hopefully you can get a discount on your Flea tickets the next time he plays the Forum...and you can shout out "Flea sucks" from the audience...I guarantee it will be drowned out by screaming, cheering, maniacal fans enjoying every note he plays...and he'll cash his huge check which confirms...he knows something you don't.
Andre Berry Do you know any websites (other than UA-cam) that someone can learn how to play Slap Bass ? I have played for almost 20 years now but never really got into the Slap Technique. Any referrals would be appreciated, as I get older I have begun to enjoy different techniques and styles.

Flea is great. Most of all his attitude, what a nice guy. I notice so many "purest's" having a go by saying he is no good. Seriously, music isn't about how fast you play notes, it's the music you make and connection you have with people. Get over yourself!
well it kinda does matter; how fast he can play, or how well when its an instructional video... its supposed to show that you're gonna start here and then in time blossom into a hell of a better player, instead of into mediocre 'ive spent way too much time on my attitude then my actual playing and becoming a better musician' . you have to balance you're personality with your skill, because if you have no skill then you're boring, but if you have no personality to match good skill you're not going to get any further either.
Anyone saying Flea is no good at bass isn't a "purist", they're an idiot. Period. These idiots only crop up in comments sections for videos of flea which have millions of views. Flea, you are such a wonderful teacher! You should do clinics! The two words that struck me in this simple instructional are "comfort" and "power". This is why some were meant to teach, and others weren't! I will use this for some of my students. Thank you!

I adore this guy! He is hell of a performer on stage and a great bass player as well. And just a cool guy!))) A real riot! I love RHCP!
Thanks for the lesson.

Hey needles.....
What's the matter, Chicken?
No one calls me chicken.
I was thinking the exact same thing 😂
+Grantism HEY FUCKASS GET ME A BEER
Leaving the memes aside, he is a God when it comes to playing bass.
1:08 RUNNING WITH THE DEVIL!!
Thanks Flea for this amazing, short, straight to the point tutorial!
Flea is awesome! Probably the best bass player of all time.
98arsenije Good point

Jaco Pastorius is pretty sick too! .... well was.... :(
lmfao 5:52 he just fucking explodes !! so rad hail to the Flea
I love guitar and it's my fav instrument, but playing the bass is just so fun. The guitar is like your parents you will always love and appreciate, but the bass is that uncle that takes you to the arcade and out to eat and spoils you
then takes you home for other things, can i get a hell yeah
Flea, you are such a wonderful teacher! You should do clinics! The two words that struck me in this simple instructional are "comfort" and "power". This is why some were meant to teach, and others weren't! I will use this for some of my students. Thank you!
Hold up... an I the only one who thinks he sounds like the new joker?
Mo Games Oh my god that’s why he sounds so familiar.
Yeah I thought that
YOOOOOOOOOOOO I cant unhear now lol
Aha that's why
How about another riff Murray?
Flea isn't a real bass player, because people know who he is
hahahaha
Like Sting.
What is a real bass player?
***** We don't know that, that's the point
Guy berryman from Coldplay
Wow this guy's a great player, cant wait to see where his career goes
My biggest inspiration for learning the bass years ago. And after a 3 year hiatus of not touching my bass, rediscovering their music, he has also been the greatest inspiration for me to relearn everything and pickup the bass again!
Flea finally listened to stewie and put a shirt on good for him
