Hi john doe & Ryan b - thank you very much for your comments. The majority of our down comes from suppliers in Europe and China. This down is a by-product of geese and ducks that are raised for food. This is similar to leather being a by-product of the beef industry. With goose down and duck down, the value of the down is always much less than the market value of the meat, so farmers do not raise their birds just for the down. In addition, all Cuddledown processors have pledged not to buy down obtained through inhumane practices.
Not all birds are live plucked. Most of the feathers are by product of the slaughter houses, or purchased from farmers from the countryside after the birds were cut down for meat. I am from Hungary where "goosing" is an old tradition and where one of the best quality goose down comes from. Many people ( not just farmers) in the countryside keep geese, not only for the meat and liver but also for selling the feathers and down that is very valuable - and the feather and down is usually taken after the birds are dead.
breasts of birds, look at all that down ! and the poor birds suffering who are defeathered alive and kept alive until their feathers grow back then they rip them out of them again :(
So after reading the dailymail (an entertainment website) i looked into a bit more. Seems like around 1-3% of down comes from already "illegal" pluckings of live birds. Most are collected after the bird is already dead, where the meat and other parts are used. Some are brushed off birds as it natually and slowly falls out. Looks like using the bird's down is a better and a green use. Not only are we using the meat for human foods, and scraps for animal foods, we are also using the feathers to keep people warm. Rather than making nasty chemicals and other synthetics. Seems pretty green and a smart way to do things! Don't let the 1% of assholes destroy a very green and good industry. Now if only the price would come down i would buy one :D

I'm all about white good down. It is unfortunate that low standard products are allowed that have feathers poking through poor thread count cases.
all the down fills are next to each other.. better hope someone doesn't sneeze!
type this in youtube search bar: I'm Down On Down
lol
Some nice live-plucked / force-fed feathers there. Who knew animal suffering could be so warm & comfy!

Most geese are giving their down as a biproduct of the meat industry. It is important that very little of a goose, if any, goes to waste.

"Now if only the price would come down ..."
No pun intended, I take it?
You eat hot wings or friend chicken? Cant let that down go to waste.
Isn't it awesome? Its almost like animals don't have souls and and not as important as humans? What a interesting thought
