- There is a difference between down and feather. Feather is more structured, denser and is heavier. Down is very unstructured. Both down and feather are used in sleeping pillows. Down is an outstanding insulator which is why it is used in garments such as coats and gloves. Because it is such a great insulator it is used in comforters or duvets. Learn more about these differences in this video.

I see now why whatever I´m wearing underneath my feather&dawn jacket keeps racking up small dawn particles. Next purchase I do I will pay attention. Don´t care so much if it´s a bit heavier but I just want feather inside or very little dawn if some. Very well explained!
Feather doesn't provide as much insulation as down. Be sure to check out or 150+ bedding tips videos and articles found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

my sears pilliws have end of sharp feathers poking my face .... should i get new or invest in covers?
If your pillows are not that old, then - yes, put 2 pillow protectors on them. If they are a few years old, consider washing them and then cover with 2 pillow protectors or purchase new ones. Feather pillows are very inexpensive. Thanks for watching. Be sure to watch some of 150+ bedding tips found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
Does goose down last forever?
Dose it break down in time?
Can 40 year old goose down pillow stuffing be used in a new empty pillow shell?
Down does break down over time, dependent on use. As far as the 40 yr. old pillow, as long as there is ample down it, we see no reason why you couldn't use it. Be sure to check out of 150 bedding tips and articles found here www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
Thank you for the wonderful explanation.
I actually prefer a heavier duvet that's still breathable. Does this mean that I should look for a duvet with a higher feather-to-down ratio?
Look for a lower fill power. Most do not like a lot of weight on them. There is no right or wrong, it is personal preference. Check out our 150 bedding tips here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

great explanation. Thanks. Now... how do I keep my down pillow and comforter performing well? should I periodically put it in the dryer on cool-air to fluff it?
You can wash them. Here are our instructions on how to do this www.verolinens.com/how-to-clean-your-down-pillow/

Is down alternative have feathers in it? I purchased one for a present for my son which loves his feather pillow, thinking it was down, now I’m worried that it’s not even going to have feathers in it, when it arrives.
Sorry, for the late reply, a down alternative would not have down or feather in it. Please checkout our 150+ bedding related tips and care instructions here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

I have a question about my feather down jacket. Couple of weeks ago I was carrying a bottle of oil and some of it transferred on my jacket. The material of the jacket is extremely thin, Nylon like but thin. I took it Home and tried to remove the stains with some Water and soap and when it dried out it created spots all over it’s like I transferred it all over again in other places. Please help me and advice me if I should take it to dry cleaner or they might ruin it even more 😩😭
Sounds like the Cat in the Hat story. Try washing the entire jacket in a mild detergent and gentle wash cycle. Also, let it soak in the soap water for an hour or so. Oil will coat the down and impeding it from fluffing up. So it will loose some of it's insulating properties.
I learned something new thanks.
Glad to hear it!

my duvet - the tiny feathers coming out and prickling me, how do I stop this? there are hundreds coming out!
Are they feathers or down clusters? We suppose it doesn't matter. It is possible the shell of your down comforter has a lower thread count. This could be a factor. Thanks for watching, be sure to check out our 150 + bedding tips found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
@@Verolinens HELLO DUDE :D
So if it clumps up it's synthetic?
It's a quilt if it changes anything.
Perhaps. Down and feather don't ball or clump up. Sometimes down will if it is wet. But it can be easily separated by just shaking it. Thanks for watching - Be sure to check out some of our 150 + "how to videos found here www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

If I have a bunch of doves caught during dove season, will the dove feathers be a good source of down/feathers? Dove is not waterfowl per se, and it is much smaller than geese and ducks. Would it be safe to use the feathers right after peeling them off, or should I sun-dry them for a few days, or wash them? Thoughts? Would hate to waste perfectly good bird feathers after the hunting season.
The feathers might be too heavy, but you can try. We recommend that the feather/down be cleaned and sanitized as it could contain mites or the like. Thanks for watching, be sure to check out our 150 + bedding tips found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/
How is the down and feather taken from the bird?
Our down is IDFL certified, which means: NO live plucking.NO force-feeding. Down & Feather is sourced only as a byproduct from the food industry and is compliant with the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare. Question pls. How is the down harvest ? Do they actually need to kill the animals or just shave them like sheeps
Our down is a by product of the food industry.
Feathers poke the heck out of you lol 😂 I have a feather pillow and a then a down pillow and down comforter. The feather pillow occasionally loses a feather or two and they feel like a needle has poked into your skin lol 🤦🏻♀️
Mass is not what separates the down feathers from the pennaceous feathers: a free falling object does not experience it's own mass only the surrounding mass. The pennaceous feathers are more aerodynamic and thus experience less drag causing them to reach the ground before the down feathers, this is because the strands of down have strands themself which increase the total surface area where the pennaceous feathers strands don't SEEM to any stands, if they do they are not large enough to distinguish which the human eye like the down feathers and thus will have less of an effect. Now the thing you said "more structured" this observation COULD be another cause for why down feathers flutter longer in the air, stands could be pushing each other around creating a lift effect, but this is speculation to look into. What is known for certain is 100kg ball falls at the same rate as 1kg ball of equal radius.
That is a very technical explanation - the aerodynamics of a feather vs. a down cluster certainly makes sense. Although if you were to take to identical sized containers and filled one with down and one with feathers, the feather container would weigh more unless one compressed the down container.
Thank you!

Down quilt is better or cotton quilt??
We think so. Down is very light and doesn't clump whereas cotton will likely knot up over time. Please checkout our 150+ bedding related tips and care instructions here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

I need a better pillow but you can't find shit other than synthetic or foam
Try our site - www.verolinens.com/luxury-goose-down-sleeping-pillows/ . They are made in the US.
I hate all these modern rubbish softy softy pillows. They look very fluffy and wide but when you put your head down it sinks too low. Absolutely rubbish.
I want something firm and hard. Don't like memory foams. Anyone know what type I should buy in the UK?
I like those made in Asia/Bangladesh/India, made from 'shimul cotton'. But those are not available in the UK. 😞 Would love feedback from anyone. Thanks.
Try a feather pillow...

Down is 5x more expensive
Down is a lot more expensive. That is because there is less of it on a bird. Feather is okay for those that like a firmer pillow, but feather would be too heavy for a comforter.
