I don't know if others experience with this recipe is the same, but it has changed everything about my hair since I started using it about three months ago. I have been natural for almost 5 years and I have experienced little hair growth. Not to mention my hair came out after dying it and became unhealthy. I started using this diy shampoo along with doing a protective style. well, my hair is finally growing! I mean it's growing fast and feels and look so healthy. I also started spritzing my hair with aloe Vera juice and water after conditioning. I have 4c hair and it's normally dry all the time, but the porosity of my hair has changed and I'm literally in love with my hair. it maintains moisture like never before. Thank you so much for this diy, it saved my hair life... muah!😘

I'm going to try this, along with my homemade avocado & aloe vera conditioner. I've been natural for about 3-4 years and haven't experienced much hair growth either. I'm super excited! I hope to have great results like you. haha

It worked wonders for me. I struggle with certain products because I have psoriasis in my scalp. Since I started using it, I have not experienced any outbreaks. My hair is growing and is healthy. I keep it simple and I do not go over board with trying products. I found something that works so I'm not going to try anything else. If it ain't broke...

I just found this recipe a month ago and finally purchased all the ingredients for it. I really thought it would be too drying on my hair, especially because African black soap is too strong for my skin regularly, but instead it was very moisturizing and I wanna say clarifying at the same time. My hair really liked it - dried supremely soft after a regular conditioner (which never happens as I’m a super dry 4b/4c) and I can’t wait to use it next wash day.

    Hi Whitney
Back in the day, when I relaxed my hair. On the few occasions I used Jojoba oil in my hair care, I found it would cause quite a lot of breakage. I believe this is due to its hair softening properties, which is great if you have healthy hair, but proved to be a problem on my relaxed hair. I suspect it is the high levels of salicylic acid that caused my already weakened hair to break.
I mention this because of the use of Jojoba Oil in your homemade shampoo, and the possibility that you could be unwittingly making your hair problems worse. As an alternative I've found Castor oil to be great for strengthening my hair. I hope this helps.

I just tried this shampoo and my scalp feels SO FREAKING GOOD right now! I seriously can't remember the last time my scalp felt this clean! The only thing I did differently was add olive oil instead of jojoba oil...because I didn't have any...and I didn't do it in the shower I did it in the sink and got the shampoo in my eye. I thought I was done for! But I ran some cold-warm water over my eye until I felt like I wasn't going to die...other than that, it was very easy to follow and my hair also feels really soft! Thank you so much for sharing this! You're awesome and you just gained yourself a new follower. I'm sharing this with everyone I know!

I'm so stoked!!! I made this shampoo and tried it on my son who is 4. He has (had) a toddler version of cradle cap which looked awful.
After just 1 application of Whitney's shampoo *ALL* the cradle cr@p has gone. Usually I use a commercial cradle cr@p shampoo, it didn't remove all of it and it dried out his hair. I hated using it. But Oh My Goodness, this ABS shampoo is a game changer. So thank you so much, Girl. It was great on my hair and scalp too. ♥️

I found what thought to be a traditional liquid black soap, made from plantain skins, but this one is made from palm oil. I tried it and I'm in love. its like a thick jam consistency, I just add a little water, and finish up with, JB castor oil. my hair has. never been softer and so easy to detangle💕

I've been using a homemade black soap shampoo since May. I add rosemary, orange, patchouli & lavender EOs, baobab oil & 1 oz of black soap to 1 cup hot water. I only need 2 oz to wash my hair, so I use some of the rest to bathe with (it's my weekly top-to-toe exfoliating treatment). My hair loves it! I can section my hair with my fingers, and I detangle with it all lathered up. I follow up with a RenPure conditioner (I switch between the coconut cream & bamboo/coconut water formulas), then my homemade cream (shea butter & a bunch of oils). With this crazy heat we've had in the PNW, my hair has grown almost 2 inches since I started. Thanks for getting me started!

When I was younger, I was told to use a comb to scratch before washing my hair, but that of course just further irritated my scalp. I used to have to part my hair over and over again and put jojoba oil on my scalp, and I'd have to do that at least every days. After using this shampoo once per week for 3 weeks in a row, my dry scalp or dandruff or whatever it was is gone! Thanks so much @Naptural85, you have saved me so much time!

This looks great, going to try it, with fewer ingredients so I don't have to go shopping. Black soap is great on my wavy hair, I've been using it straight for years. My original bar started out solid, but started absorbing moisture from the atmosphere, so I put it in a mason jar, and it's kept on absorbing water as I used it, and now I have a jar of black soap gel that will apparently never run out.
