$20 Vs $300 fuzz comparison: BOSS FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz Vs Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz

- Опубліковано 28 лип 2024
- I've owned the Behrigner SF300 Super Fuzz for a few years, and at $20 it is hard to beat. However, the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz sells right around $300 on the used market. Many people claim that these pedals sound identical. Now I don't know if that is the case or not, but I am sure hellbent on finding out.
So, using some editing tricks, and a trusty TC Electronic Wiretap, I've done my best to let you hear both pedals side-by-side, this way you and I can hear how similar/different both these pedals are.
Is the Boss really worth more than the Behringer? Let me know in the comments below.

The Behringer has one advantage : the 1.5 setting, it is kinda hard to do but if you move the switch in between the 1 and 2 setting you get a mix of the fuzz settings. When boss does a FZ2 waza they should totally include that
Maybe they will! Many seem to love those in-between modes.
I can verify this as I have owned both.
Also 2.5
Secret mode is where it's at babbyyy
I actually preferred the Behringer for a lot of them.. Boss sounds somewhat "thinner" by comparison IMO (maybe people would call the opposite "muddy", idk)
Behringer did great with this unit. I ain't getting rid of mine, and I'm actually considering selling the BOSS lol
I think the hyper fuzz works better in the mix.
The fuzz face I like also. Have them both.
On Fuzz 1 they sounded pretty different to me, but the Fuzz 2 was very close. I liked that gnarly Boss Fuzz 1 better (not $300 better!), but for wall of sound, they both do that second one great. And the boost is a nice feature.
I think that the boss is especially overpriced. It's a great pedal, but not worth the asking price.
Fun Fact the behringer has five modes in all the first secret is hidden inbetween fuzz1and 2 and 2nd is between fuzz2 and boost!
Yeah, that makes it a hell of a bang for the buck!
I adore the boost on the fz 2. Sf300 is close for sure
Yeah, the SF300 is great.
Great video :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Have you ever tried a Super Fuzz style pedal with your bass rig?
@@TheToneLounge not yet, but I want to!!
It is a rather unique and heavy sound. It's definitely worth trying to determine if it would fit with your style and rig.
On heavy fuzz 2 they sound the same... but the behringer to me is a winner
I love hearing that! That means more money in your pockets.
@@TheToneLounge no not in the pocket... spending to more gear..... ;-)
Oh, I do so love a bit of fuzz. And you do it so well. Thanks, what a treat! P.s.- I prefer the Hyper Fuzz.
I prefer the Hyper Fuzz on the Fuzz 1 setting. It's cuts through the mix a little better.
You sold me on the SF300, quite a fuzz for $30.
Absolutely! You can't go wrong at this price point.
Gnarly. Boost/heavy fuzz sounds identical imho
Yeah, they come so close that at one point I had to make sure I had exported the right audio files lol
will you make a video about blackstar studio 10 el34?
If I get my hands on one, then I will
@@TheToneLounge :)
I like the "character" of the boss better overall. I think your riffs sound more defined on it.
In Fuzz 1 mode I definitely hear more mids and a touch more definition.
@@TheToneLounge thinking about buying a berhinger collection though. So affordable!
Yeah, and they don't depreciate in value that much either on the used market.
@@TheToneLounge got a berhinger super fuzz.
I love my Superfuzz but I’m still shocked to find myself preferring it to the Hyperfuzz here
Behringer got it right with the SF300!
Do those Bshringer pedals get funky fizzy Loose boost over the. Time
Mmllllkkk
They do not.
Both great in their own way. Sometimes the boss wins sometime the behringer. With the pricepoint in mind i would go with the behringer all night long without thinking "mmmh damned maybe i would like the boss better but cant afford it." 👍
i actually think the behringer sounds better
Especially on the 2 in between settings!
Funny how that works. Many prefer it to the original.
I'm one of the rare people who does not care for those in-between positions. I use Fuzz 1 almost exclusively with wither of these pedals.
@The Tone Lounge I'm a 2.5 guy, it's so ripping
The Boss FZ-2 was the pedal that turned me off from fuzz pedals for more than 20 years.
Couldn't get rid of it fast enough. I'm much happier with my Fuzz Face mini's now!
A Super Fuzz circuit is an acquired taste. Which mini FF are you using?
@@TheToneLounge Yes indeed, it can be a beautiful thing for industrial tones though. I have the blue one and the turquoise (JH) mini FF's. Love them for slightly different applications!!
I only own the FZ-2, but I will say that it's a pedal that wants to get way too fizzy way too quickly (a problem with all Boss drive pedals, frankly) and Fuzz II is basically unusable because of how insanely scooped it is: it's got that sort of Metal Zone vibe of wanting to appeal to 14-year-olds wanting to get a sUpEr bRuTaL tone in their bedrooms but is absolute dog shit in a mix. It sounds like the SF-300 on Fuzz I has less mids than the FZ-2, which is a bit concerning, as pushing the mids is how you kinda get it to work.
That said, it's my favourite fuzz pedal and potentially favourite drive sound ever - it's just temperamental. It's the sort of pedal where you find one or two settings and then stick with them forever because everything else sounds pretty bad.
It's such a specific sound, that if it's not your main thing, then you may not be pulling this one out very often.
Close enough for the cigar...🙂
I think so too
