I lost my dad a few years ago and I have the best memories watching Robin Hood with him when I was little. I love this movie and song as much as I love him.
i lost my dad 3 years ago. when i was a kid, i saw this movie thousands of times. now that i have a 2 years old kid, i watch this movie with him. he loves it and i remember with tears and joy my beloved father. =)
LYRICS: Every town Has it's ups and downs Sometimes ups Outnumbered the downs But not in Nottingham I'm inclined to believe If we were so down We'd up and leave We'd up and fly if we had wings for flyin' Can't you see the tears we're cryin'? Can't there be some happiness for me? Not in Nottingham
Every town has its ups and downs....sometimes ups outnumber the downs....but not in Nottingham....this was a horribly sad scene. I couldn't believe my eyes as a kid. Damn well broke my heart. No one should be in jail for honestly not being able to pay taxes, but especially not parents, the elderly, or the very young. It was unimaginable.
I REALLY wish there was a recording without the rain and other sound effects in the background and also included the transition into the church organ version at the end. Sadly I have found no such thing. Even the so called original musical score still has the sound effects and cuts before the organ part.
I'm so glad I grew up watching this on VHS/VCR

Bri Betker me too miss my dad that’s why I’m here 😞😞
My apologies for your loss
Roger Miller was known for his upbeat silly songs, but he also wrote some really depressing ones. This is one of them.
Dan Najera I wouldn't call it depressing, but yeah I know what you mean.
And what a joy it is!
Emotive is the proper phrase....and Roger was a great one for them....reminds me of a song like "River In The Rain.."
maybe... the best song ever written.
This song sums up my internal struggle with life
Really such a sad depressing scene. Really a genius scene because of how it really makes you sad
One of my favorite songs from this movie which also happens to be one of my favorite Disney animated movies
LYRICS:
Every town
Has it's ups and downs
Sometimes ups
Outnumbered the downs
But not in Nottingham
I'm inclined to believe
If we were so down
We'd up and leave
We'd up and fly if we had wings for flyin'
Can't you see the tears we're cryin'?
Can't there be some happiness for me?
Not in Nottingham
If we *weren't* so down.
I love this song but i really love the organ at the very end. Very soulful.
Yup.
Had the book, and 45. This was my favorite song. Still is today.
love this movie, always have. Sad how this song sums me up now.
Every time its starts to rain i think about this song
BEST SONG EVER
A highly underrated song tbh
Sing it roger! Depresses the hell out of me.

Love his voice, this song and the film. Shame the song isn't longer, is there a longer version?

i always thought he said : "Every Turn , has it's ups and downs..."
12 times the bell tolls

That's how life works. It's not fair. You don't pay what you owe, you go to prison.
I can't believe the real life Prince John has a youtube account.
Better than mumford and sons...
Top ten. Ever. God bless Roger Miller
Is it just me, or is the voice of the mouse playing the organ also that of Piglet from "Winnie the Pooh"?
Good ear! Yes, that is the late great voice actor John Fiedler (1925-2005). RIP.
tuokreahp I knew it! Thank you for confirming my suspicions.
No problem. I know enough about voice actors to be dangerous, like Edward Snowden. :-)
Homemade Everything brought me here.
Friar tuck It seems I have an outlaw for a in-law
They'll be singing this about America in another decade.
ElvenRaptor "But not in U.S.A..."
Coral Roper Eh, they'll probably be singing it about your country, too, someday.
ElvenRaptor That's what I meant. That would be the lyric, instead of "But not in Nottingham."
Especially if Trump becomes President.
Happened. Can we say it now?
it exist an instrumental version? (with only guitar)
Does this count as Outlaw country???
More-so synonymous with folk country.

JoeBee9 that would be pretty great...

Opening to A Goofy Movie 1995 VHS
A Goofy Movie (1995)
Except Lady Kluck, Little John, Maid Marian and Robin Hood didn't end up in jail - they must've paid their taxes
Man this kind of song sounds like a very miserable and sad kind of music
America has a theme song.
Texas Texas Texas
+Paul Riet Taxis Taxis Taxis
Didn't Roger Miller (the rooster) have a single hit after this movie
Too bad the reprise wasn't included
No, just no, although I love Willie Nelson Roger miller has a more distinct British accent.
Christopher Stephenson - Uh, Roger Miller is (or was, rather) American. Doesn't sound English at all.
It would have been better if Willie Nelson sang this.
No
no
No
Free man nah! Rogers song is best sung by Roger! As much as I respect and love willie.
