I used to use commas but now just put a bunch of phrases together. I know it’s harder to read but I think users are mostly clicking per image anyway. People don’t read stuff.
Thx Heather. I opened up my POD store on Etsy, and now am learning a lot. My To-Do lists includes banner, SEOs, mockups, and more. Thx for giving back!
Heather, you are the greatest. I finally got my store up and running and I've got 16 products so far... but very little traffic and only one sale.....I"ll have to go back and look at my tags
This video was very helpful. I just created my shop a few days ago, and started feeling overwhelmed with trying to figure out how to get traffic. Thank you for this video.
One thing about the description in the etsy up webinar recently with developers - they said they only use the first 140 characters so I’d put those words up front, not 2 paragraphs in. I was surprised to hear that.
Regarding 17:32 - have you tested this? Going by what Etsy tells us, you don't need all 3, you should be able to rank for 'soda' and 'pop' just by having 'soda pop'. Same with tee' and 'shirt', they can just be one tag 'tee shirt'. Single word tags aren't recommended as it's a waste of space. They say not to repeat but then they also say keywords that appear in the same tag are stronger than keywords appearing in separate tags. At the end of the day, all you need is your keywords, everywhere you can get them. Niche keywords are gold, and when all is said and done, what really ranks you is conversion and feedback rates. I'd love to see a video talking about conversion, it's so critical but no one talks about it!
This is the first video of yours that I have watched. I am brand new to Etsy and had no idea how to do it. I've watched several videos that explained what to do. I needed to know how and in terms that can be understood by someone such as myself. You have explained a great deal for me. Thank you.
Also remember when using short phrases, is to do your research on trademarks. I've learned that some short ones are trademarked, so be careful. GREAT VIDEO!
Thank you so much Heather!! I'd love to see a video of you doing/showing how you do your research and how you form your titles tags and descriptions for a shirt:)
Thank you so much for the video. I have a lot of revision to make on my ads. Hopefully with the guidance and suggestions you provided, it will grow more traction on my site.
Not sure if Canadians are part of this discussion 😄but it's pop in general or the actual pop name (such as Pepsi). Thank you for the great video. I am doing my best with Titles and Keywords...so if I start making sales...either I am learning or just darn lucky! 😄
Here in Tennessee we call them all Cokes. And Coca Cola for the "coke". I have really enjoyed your videos and have learned a lot. I am getting ready to start my own etsy store soon, and these have been a big help.
I don't know if this is accurate at all, but speaking of research before using any , _ - etc for especially larger projects, I'd want to know more about server spiders and tracking. Any kind of delineation might deter search if the spider is set to search up to the first delineation (symbol). If so, the string report would break. Just something that came to mind.
Thank you for your good content you share. I had a question about number 2 on your list. When discussing tags you mentioned to add an extra word and that Etsy will combine them. Can you please elaborate as I got a little confused. Thank you!
You’re awesome with your information and your personality. I definitely knew you were from the Midwest from your accent. For example it sounds like you’re saying “Utsy”. 😜 I’m from VA but grew up with parents from NC and married someone from Michigan, so my accent is all over the place. 😂
I grew up calling it "pop". But I also know that in some parts of the US, it is called "soda", or "soda pop". At some time in my twenties, I began calling it "soda pop" because the single syllable word "pop" can easily be misunderstood while the term "soda pop" is pretty much always understood, even from a distance or in a noisy environment.
Interesting point about how to say shirt. I notice though that etsy will rank me for terms I don’t even use bc I tested this. For example some people call sweatshirts jumpers which I usually don’t use. I was going to add it but then I tested a search for jumper and I showed up. It did say at one point in etsy seo guide that you dont need to write every type of way to say t shirt that they will rank you for them regardless. Are you finding something different or suggesting multiple ways to say shirt to be safe, not seem so spammy? Thanks
1) Is the location that shows up in the front page of a POD seller the location of the seller or is that the location from where the products are shipped from (e.g. awkward styles address)? I'm asking this because if its the location of the seller, that means south africa will be the location that shows up. will that not affect my sales since i'll only be targeting U.S. customers and they may think i'm shipping from south africa instead of U.S. (with e.g. awkward styles) 2) during the Etsy Setup: Is shop currency the currency of the country in which the business is located Or is that the currency of the bank account the business is using. E.g. Shop Location: South Africa, Shop Currency: USD (i want to accept payments with my USD payoneer account)
Found out in college that people who live in western Missouri usually say pop, while eastern Missouri people say soda. Not saying everyone does that, but I wondered if it was due to the areas they live in.
I found your UA-cam about 2 weeks ago. Thank you for all your wisdom on these topics. Very clean and easy to understand. I knew what SEO was but your description is way more in depth. Thank you so much
@@itsheatherstudio Heck yeah! This is the type of stuff that changes financial timeliness in families. I live in Sacramento Ca and it's a struggle out here. I constantly wanna leave because of so many things but financially if I can make it, it's not too bad. So thanks for being passionate and giving ; it helps
Hey heather...This is TeeZillafy here.....thanks for your informative video. It was very helpful. I have 2 queries, first - i am using the inbuild description via printify, i am not changing it while listing my prdt on etsy. Will that work? Second, i have a party or beer niche for tees, can i still list frosted beer mugs along with Tees?
Thank you Heather. Love all of your videos. This one was very clear, easy to understand and appreciated. Love your Vlog too! ❤ I haven’t listed anything yet. 😬Video request - my biggest hurdle is getting stuck in the overthinking of how to trend combine bestsellers or plan designs for future dates to come like Christmas. Do you go off of what worked in the prior year with bestsellers or somehow search for what’s going to be trending?
I hate keywords stuffing 😢 I feel physical discomfort writing this way, so I switched to a mix - throw in as many keywords to have phrases but also making it somewhat grammatical... Maybe I'll test both kinds and overcome the pain 🙄😉😂😂
This is a different topic...my friend and I are creating some digital Downloads for Etsy...is there a way to both be on the Etsy shop and share profits
Great way to describe seo! I’ve heard to not put any commas or punctuations in the title, and make all words work with each other. Do you think that would help or hurt you in the algorithm?
Do you no longer put T-shit tshirt tee in one tag? Also, Hi Steve. Where I am from a Coke is a Coke, a Pepsi is a Coke and a Sprite is a Sprite. I've always told my kids that s**a and p*p and c**a were bad words and we don't use them.
I still put the keywords in one tag it's definitely helpful for ranking for those specific search phrases from my experience! Also, haha to the other words being bad words. I also sad Coke along with pop but with Etsy coke would be a TM flag which is the struggle bus haha!😂
I don't think it's necessary as far as I've seen bestsellers ranking for a mix and match of keyword phrases between the title, description and tags so that leads me to assume commas or any type of separators do not matter from experience and just take up extra space that could be used for a keyword. I think that's my own toxic trait is using commas still even though I know they may not be necessary😅
Hey, as usual, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm curious about one thing, namely how to correctly check if my product appears on the first page for a specific phrase. When I simply search on Etsy, it's often found somewhere at the top, but when I check in incognito mode, it's not there at all. How do you do it?
Usually for rank checking you have to either go incognito or use a rank tracking software such as Everbee or eRank, etc. that pulls data from a server that can't be influenced by prior search queries. I've been using the Everbee chrome extension because it now has a 'rank checker' that you can sync your listings and it will show where you rank per tag which is a new feature that just came out. Outside of rank tracking software there is just incognito/private browser but sometimes it's like finding a needle through a haystack haha!
I enjoyed this video but am confused as you are saying to keyword stuff but Etsy says NOT to do this and it could potentially get you banned. I've also heard others on youtube say not to use a comma or anything between long tail keywords. It's confusing to get so much conflicting info.
Question--- the pop / soda pop example-- I thought that if you put "soda" in 1 tag and "pop" in another tag, that Etsy would put "soda pop" together in a search query? So that if you made 3 different tags out of that it would be a waste of tags??? (I get it that these aren't using all the characters in each tag, I'm just asking per example) or am I being too literal?? thanks 😉 --- and here in Michigan it's "pop" but my grandma from Illinois called it "soda pop" 😁😁
I usually put 'soda pop' in one tag, the phrases and mixing keywords is great because search engine algorithms 'mix and match' keywords that are in phrases so if you put 'soda pop' and 't-shirt tee' in two seperate tags, sometimes you can rank for the phrase 'soda t-shirt' even if they aren't together. Haha to the pop- my fiance is from Illinois and he says pop, I also say pop and am from Indiana. Hopefully this helps! :)
Thank you! Just love your videos!! 💖💖 You're straight to the point, you're down to earth, you make sense, and you just overall rock! Thank you so much for helping the rest of us!
Do tags have to make senses? lets take your 'cat mom shirt' example. what if I write: tag 1 = cat kitten feline tag 2 = mom mother mum tag 3 = shirt tee T shirt please let me know because I'm starting loosing my mind...
I used to use commas but now just put a bunch of phrases together. I know it’s harder to read but I think users are mostly clicking per image anyway. People don’t read stuff.

Hey Steve, Looking Good!
I’m in northern Indiana, I always say pop. My daughter lives in San Diego and the say soda.
I'm in Canada close to your mid west and we call it SODA, but many people call it pop also
That was very helpful thank you!
I really like your part about multiple terms for key words (soda/pop). Going to be very useful for my product!
Really great stuff ! Thank you ! So generous ! 🎉
Thank you for your good content you share. I had a question about number 2 on your list. When discussing tags you mentioned to add an extra word and that Etsy will combine them. Can you please elaborate as I got a little confused. Thank you!
What if I want to put both tee and sweatshirt in one listing? How to create the title? tia
Very helpful, thank you! What are your thoughts on watermarks on listings and also labeling pictures so they match your title?

1) Is the location that shows up in the front page of a POD seller the location of the seller or is that the location from where the products are shipped from (e.g. awkward styles address)?
I'm asking this because if its the location of the seller, that means south africa will be the location that shows up. will that not affect my sales since i'll only be targeting U.S. customers and they may think i'm shipping from south africa instead of U.S. (with e.g. awkward styles)
2) during the Etsy Setup: Is shop currency the currency of the country in which the business is located Or is that the currency of the bank account the business is using.
E.g. Shop Location: South Africa, Shop Currency: USD (i want to accept payments with my USD payoneer account)

Thank you for watching and supporting my content! ❤ The design tutorials are inbound in the next week and I have another one coming in July here 💕
Thanks! I love your videos. I say just 'pop' lol.
You are so awesome! So glad I found you. BTW...I'm in Iowa. I say pop most of the time, but I may say soda once in a while. I never say soda pop! :)

Quick question...so do you recommend a comma between words in the title or just a space? Thank you for the great information.

I'm from Texas. They're all Cokes. It then is just what kind of Coke you want. And then it's Dr. Pepper. Especially Dublin Dr. Pepper.
