      It shouldn't have ended that way. You can clearly hear that the ref's countout started just before there was 10 seconds left on the clock, and that he slowed it down so that it wouldn't finish before it ran down to 0. Tantrum was cheated out of this match.

    Sawblaze is flipped and stops moving at 5:57
    Ref says "gotta see movement in 5 seconds" at 6:07
    Ref starts countdown at 6:16 with slightly more than 10 seconds left on clock.
    I think all that matters is when the countdown started. This is obliviously "more art than science", but I think most people would agree that a bot should only be saved from being counted out if there was truly less than 10 seconds remaining at the start of the countdown. Tantrum (despite their name) handled the situation with extreme grace. Very impressive and classy!

    • @gluonpa6878

      This is a robbery... There should be at the very least a rule that say that if it critically matters, the countdown by the clock should overrule the referee. In this case, judge would have agreed that the countdown stated with a little more than 10 seconds and thus this is a KO.

      The rule is 10 seconds to move or you get a 10 second time out. So you have 20 seconds for a ko. Historically the judges are extremely accurate, but it can be deceptive because tv edits. Time can be added or removed when changing camera angles. So the competition does well, but tv spices it up

    First, the combination of a hammer and a spinner. Can do either role, so even if one function of it stops working, the other function can keep going. Also allows for more types of attacks.

    A solid fight with a really bizarre and frankly hilarious ending. Despite the botched countout by the ref I think the judges decision was more or less correct, Sawblaze definitely had the edge in all three categories despite Tantrum staying scrappy for most of the match.
    I don't think anyone wanted to see Tantrum lose to End Game for the fourth time in a row, nor a Sawblaze loss to a very uncharacteristic mistake after having its opponent dead to rights. At least both teams had a good sense of humor about it--the winner annoucement post-fight apparently required multiple takes because no one could keep a straight face.

    you know.. i feel like what would really decrease the number of JDs required would be.. to just make the fights longer. 4 minutes instead of 3. it'd only increase the maximum length of a fight by 33% but it'd be an extra minute after the first 3 minutes of pounding so i bet the chance of KOs would increase exponentially and they'd only have to cut a few minutes of fluff out of each episode to accommodate it. Like literally the time used to hype and present a JD could instead be more fight time leading to KOs.

  • @Arkios64
    @Arkios64 8 місяців тому +53

    Honestly, for me the most controversial part should be that the judges somehow had a split decision on this fight.
    It's simple: if the rules say SawBlaze wasn't knocked out, it wasn't. Change the rules in the future if it comes to it, but for this fight that is definitive.
    The fight was absolutely won on all fronts by SawBlaze, seeing a split here means the judges are influenced strongly by external factors, that aren't part of the point system they are supposed to be using.

    The fight was intense! But I also know that the ref started his countdown right BEFORE the 10 second mark. It was only a miscount on the ref's part that made this so close. I say that Tantrum should have appealed the call of a judge's decision and not a K.O. due to that. Even the replays show the countdown ahead of the clock right up until the 1 second mark. Very intense brawl! The timing of the count is what saved SawBlaze, but I personally feel like the refs shouldn't immediately say KO just less than a second after they say 1. Take for example in KOB, when the refs do the final second of the count, they do a small pause after saying 10 and then do an X with their arms, which would be a full second to show the 10 second count is over. Plus, I think something some of us saw that probably warranted the JD, was the fact SawBlaze showed some movement / slight crab walking nearing the end of the 10 count, so therefore the 10 count should've been paused.

    Wow, my feelings on this are all over the place.
    Sawblaze deserved the win based on most of that fight.
    BUT many fights do come down to a single shot KO, so a Tantrum win is all good.
    The problem (and I have felt this way for a long time, it just usually doesn't affect the outcome) is that the red count-out is always too delayed. The refs either need to be quicker to start count-out (don't ask for movement for 10+ seconds, just start counting and they have a 10 count to get moving) and/or stop the fight clock during a count.

    Rule change is definitely needed, how can a bot be immobile and unrecoverable at the end of the 3 minutes, and still win... also an actual stopwatch would definitely make things much fairer than judges and refs arbitrarily deciding how long 10 seconds is

    I would feel cheated if I was on Tantrum's team. Sawblade was immobile for 30 seconds. Although, this is the one time where I'm glad it happened, as it would've been a disaster to see them move onto the finals after that performance. These are the similar incidents that gave us some horrendous winners or finalists in the past and that's including Tantrum's win in season 6. I'm glad SawBlade didn't win it all though after this controversy similar to Witch Doctor's in the same finals as Tantrum's.

  • @AlmostEthical
    @AlmostEthical 8 місяців тому +2

    Sawblaze was completely dominant during the entire fight. Tantrum managed two decent shots. Jamison's final hit reminded me of Tombstone's unnecessary final hit on Bronco in WCI, which knocked out its guts and may have even cost Ray the final. Not sure of the rules but you'd think that if Tantrum appealed, then it would be clear that the ref waited a long time to start counting. Still, this probably made for a more even final.

    • @Jimmy_Pedraza36
      @Jimmy_Pedraza36 7 місяців тому +2

      Everyone is hung up on the decision but honestly the refs and or judges SHOULD have the ability to override a self inflicted "knockout" by technicality in cases like this where the fight is already clearly over and decided in favor of the superior battle bot based on points from damage and control. Especially if the match is in the last few seconds of the match. I see nothing wrong with this win situation, they just need to do a better job of writing the rules and win conditions . If anything the judge should have did a better job by starting the count down on Tantrum when immobilized so that that last self inflicted hit wouldn't have happened in the first place.

    This is controversial to say the least, what is questionable about it for me is that the winning bot was immobile. Ignoring the whole countdown thing, I would assume the last bot capable of movement should win, considering the whole point of fights is to be the last one standing. But there is nuance in it and SawBlaze definitely was winning most of the time so what do I know

  • @digitaldeathsquid3448
    @digitaldeathsquid3448 8 місяців тому

    I suspect this fight will galvanise a rule change regarding the count-out proceedings. Under the circumstances of SawBlaze being "saved by the bell", I think the JD was ultimately correct, but I'm not sure if Tantrum could have appealed based on when the count-out started.
    I'd be interested to see what solutions are theorized. My hypothesis would be the right of appeal to review to when the count-out should have started, if it affects fights such as this when perhaps a robot should have been considered KO'd. But as with the score appeal, you get one per tournament.
