Joey, this ‘Casual Clinic’ is a game-changer! I’m 60 years old and recently got into inline skating, and your approach to making it more fun while teaching essential techniques for speed is incredibly motivating. The way you break down each step makes it accessible for skaters at any level. It’s clear that you’re not just about going fast, but about enjoying the journey and improving with every session. Thanks for sharing your expertise and passion-it’s inspiring to see someone of your caliber making skating so approachable!
As an adult trying to learn inline speed skating, these videos are extremely helpful! I love the way you explain moving the entire body and how to create pressure by leaning. It took a lot of times hearing that from different videos, but slowly I am starting to feel what you are saying when I am practicing.
I was in your shoes 4 years ago, starting in my fifties, after a life time of rollerblading and hockey. Putting on lowcut speed skates for the first time was a shocker but now I'm on my 4th organized marathon and just absolutely love it...keep at it!
I speed skate competitively in my 20s and Joey Mantia was my inspiration. Stopped for many years, took up other sports, 40 this year and am back into speed skating after been wizarding for a year. Watching Joey makes me feel young again haha
I think the filming is fine as it is. Impressive to be able to improvise over such a long period, while skating, and remain clear and coherent. I think demonstrations of the differences between the different ways of doing things are a really good way to get your point across.
Oh and I'd love more on the weight transfer and how it'd look/feel on skates. Most seem to talk about it while doing offskate and fail to show it on the skates, I feel like this is the most important bit to understand before even trying to double push.
Loved it Champ ❤, this quality is more than any of us could have dreamed of. Thanks for making these!! And loved the Babe reference too 🤣 Baa Ram Ewe!!! 😂❤
Hey Joey, just wanted to tell you that while there is definitely times where having a dedicated camera operator there is awesome - You do a damned good job of it on your own, and there are tons of us that appreciate you doing it like this :)
This approach really works for me I find it very helpful to hear different explanations for the same technique/movement. This way you can better understand and actually grasp it. Thx!
Great clinic. Since you mention double push & radius it would be interesting to see a comparison of what the double push looks like on various wheel sizes from 80mm up to 125mm 😛 (and on urban skates rather than speed skates if possible!👍)
l have been a speed Skater in the 90ies, now l am skating on fitness/urban skates. So your Vids are great help to just find the right technique to efficient cruising on urban areas. Keep on filming!
Perfect video, 58yr old new to inline speed struggling to get speed and losing motivation. Suddenly this video appears and I can’t wait to get back on the skates. Lifesaver. Thank you.
I understand what you said... because I've watched alll of your past uploads (thanks). I am still not mastering anything, but i'm having fun trying. I have a long rockered frame and a flat speed skate frame..... both are fun!
Hi Joey. Your explanations help me a lot to understand our sport better. Could you make a tutorial about the differences between skating with 4x110 mm or 3x125 mm? I am referring to technical and muscular differences. Thank you very much for your videos and greetings from the Basque Country.
Excellent content, Joey. Thank you for sharing. I don't skate anywhere near as much as I'd like, but seeing these videos keeps me motivated and helps me go out and. I'm a total novice at the moment, but I hope I'll be able to progress with this advice.
amazing. thanks for this lesson. I feel like I have a world class coach for free. Keep em coming. I recently just got 110 wheels for my long distance. and what I am struggling with is knowing how that feeling of a double push feels like
Thank you for the video, nice format! Do it moar! 😜The thing about hips up and down is so insightful! I guess, I do it wrong😆Thank's a lot, it's very helpful! I'll try your suggestions on a track!
Greatest tips I have seen. Thank you very much. Don´t worry about filming alone, as you said. you are the greatest videomaker and teacher in one person!! My Respect.
Thanks Joey! I learn a lot from watching your video’s. No need for fancy videography from my side. It’s all about the content, that counts: tips & tricks from a world class speed skater, that’s invaluable!
Thanks Joey! This is a mistake I often make myself. I am now aware of it. However, sometimes I get overly enthusiastic while riding. Then I forget about technique when I want to overtake a few more cyclists.
Hello! i just started skating month and a half ago , i have been watching your videos , very motivational . the words you said at the biggining of the video "when you start feeling the flow" i think i felt that on todays practice and now i feel really good i dont know how to describe it . your videos have helped me improve alot i feel , just wanted to say thank you ! sorry for kinda weird english .
What perfect timing, I visited a Velodrome yesterday and had opportunity to mindfully focus on the side-to-side stride movement (vs the up and down of the hips). Will keep this in mind as I continue to drill and practice my stride!
Thank you very much for the content, very enjoyable to watch! It doesn't need fancy edits, raw is good enough for me. The knowledge could not come from a better person.
Thank you, Joey! Please keep these coming and don't even worry about those last bits you said, it's great content and you're damn good at it. I'm always happy to see a new upload from you and will usually watch it right away 👊🏻
Phenomenal solo job. You explain fine details from many perspectives which is very easy to understand. Maybe label, name or number each lesson for when this all gets put into a book and so one could easily search a particular topic.
Another thing is, when i use my speed skates, I am like "Bambi on ice"..... very wobbly ankles. Doing some dryland exercises to get stronger ankles and legs (thanks again for your uploads)
Thank you very much Joey...this was very helpful for me. I actually come from urban skate and I m trying to learn speed skating...world be great if you could do an explanation how to go uphill with speed skating tecnique as I do marathons and sometimes this can happen...thanks for your support❤
Funny I was just out with the Seattle Distance Skate group yesterday, and one of the more experienced guys noted that its harder to get speed because I am on rockered skates (4 90s). I never really thought about it like that. Then right on que Joey M comes out with a video talking about rockered frames. I think all this advice definitely applies to me as make so many of those mistakes like the up and down and the extra movement but have also been getting better.
Enjoyed it. Please add something about upper body movement (for speedskates) as well. I find it way too easy to rotate my upper body away from the end of a push, but can't understand why I shouldn't do it. Makes my push feel more powerful, but I do add the rotation that needs to be stopped somewhere..
We come here for the content, not the pretty views, I guess, and the content is great. You explained the differences very well, it was very helpful for me. I watched a "million" videos about double push and for the first time I realized that moving your hips up and down is not the way to do it. Thank You. And as for the video quality, I didn't miss anything.
This is very informative. I am doing some of these pointer you said but still have not perfected it. I am used to urban skating and slalom but I know how to push and utilize my inside and outside edge. I wanted to do more speed skating but don’t know which skate to get. Anu suggestions or idea? Subcribed to you. Looking forward to more of this 👏
Very nice content :) In fact, that kind of video has a lot of valuable tips and is less time-consuming than beautiful content ;) I like that kind of video with simple tips. I'll try to speed up my inline skating. My barrier is 27km/h for now to save energy. But if I'm watching how easy it is to skate 30-35km/h for you, I want to be faster also :) I started from 15km/h, and thanks to you and Victor, I'm faster and faster. Good job!
Fellow city neighbour & recent follower here 👍 nice to meet ya man! you put out good content! Have you ever tried going down the Lachine canal bike path down by Vieux Port? Theres a pretty good park/site at the very end of it all the way down to Lasalle :)
What skates would you recommend to someone getting into the sport? Would love to work up towards some long distance sessions 1 hour plus. I primarily cycle but has been stoked on trying speed roller skating. NGL I wanna go 20+ mph on flat ground on skates haha

Off skates for a few months due to an injury. You continue to inspire. From London UK

Great and clear explanation of the technique …. Look forward to the next detailed one👍🙏

Awesome content Joey, the self filming works well as we can see your skating movements just fine 😊
Great clinic. Since you mention double push & radius it would be interesting to see a comparison of what the double push looks like on various wheel sizes from 80mm up to 125mm 😛 (and on urban skates rather than speed skates if possible!👍)
skated casually around the city in my teens, on and off in my 20s. this brings back a lot of good memories, gotta get em back on this week!

You're the goat! I also love how you casually walk up the stairs.
Great content your videos have helped massively 🔥

Man i love your content it’s so helpful. You are very good explaining this type of “abstract concepts”. Thanks Joey!

Creating healthy with no filter incredible job I like to work with you 💯🙂brother
hi, more tutorial videos - they are very helpful

great lecture 👌
When's the Bill Stoppard collab?
Im just amazed that he can skate so good and fast with no ankle support from his speed skates. My ankles would roll over and sprain so easily.
Very nice content :) In fact, that kind of video has a lot of valuable tips and is less time-consuming than beautiful content ;) I like that kind of video with simple tips. I wonder if you're able to attach the 360 camera to your helmet. Good content. Now I know why I hate skating on rocketed skates for long distances
Fellow city neighbour & recent follower here 👍 nice to meet ya man! you put out good content!

When are you coming to India?
Haha, calisthenics exercise. I'm cracking up🤣
What are the size of those wheels
Look like 125mm to me.
110 mm
4 wheels, so 110mm.
how often do you fall?
