You're a life saver. I wanted to restore an older boat, and ran across EVA foam. I watched a video on how to install it, and the only thing that concerned me was the guy said that any liquids that might be on the foam, need to be cleaned off quickly or it could stain. Now, after watching your video, I'm glad I decided against using that crap. It seemed too good to be true. It looks cool when it's new. But, if I restore a boat and make it look awesome, I couldn't sleep at night knowing that I sold someone a product that won't last more than a year or two.
Music is a bit much, especially the first couple songs. When your narrating in the beginning, it's tough to hear you and a distraction to what your saying. Great video of the new install though, looks great!
I have Ev foam on my boat it has been on there 2 Seasons and looks perfect and I had to remove a section for a seat and it came up with no problem. I think it might have been the brand you used . Not all Ev foam is bad. Mine was from a USA Company on Amazon paid a little more than the cheap ones
@@aprtuned75 apples to apples? I fish in the Florida sun 5-6 days a week. 7am to 4pm. Boats under cover the rest of the time. Not sure you’re putting yours thru that torture. Good luck.
so take one foam product off for another foam product, Polyethaline Foam. The first decking appears to be Amazon or eBay grade likely without UV inhibitors and a lesser quality PSA based off of the removal. The good news is that you figured out that you have to get the foam off with the oscillating scraper before dealing with chemicals.
The EVA foam from eBay and Amazon that I took out only lasts two years. I fish 4-5 days a week and I'm in Florida. The white lines disintegrated first then the brown, could see it washing away each time I rinsed the boat off. Plus if gouges easily. I would not put EVA foam on a boat again.
@JeffBattleFish idk why but whenever I put an imgur link in here to show you the boat it removes it lol I'm gonna reply with the link but it'll be removed idk why
EVA Foam, like any boating product, requires maintenance. Nothing in a boat will stand up to the intense UV it receives without maintenance. As soon as you lay down EVA give it a coat of 'spray on' UV / stain inhibitor. Give it additional coats based on usage. If you're an 4 to 5 day a week user you need it every month. Mild dish soap and a rinse after every trip out. Covering your boat is another good way to protect it when not in use. If you think you can "lick it stick it and forget it" on any boat deck covering you're fooling yourself. PS: Educated yourself on EVA performance specifications before purchasing for a DIY project. Then you'll know to why to stay away from Ebay & Chinazon products. Florida has many reputable suppliers with more color choices, textures, sizes, thickness, etc. And they'll ship. Marine Mat is a good one.
Did the boat sit uncovered in the sun? I just ordered some custom cut/but still not name brand Eva foam. Hoping it lasts 5 years minimum. I only go out on weekends May-Aug and boat sits covered when not in use
Thank God I really looked into using EVA foam products. No way in hell am I buying the cheap stuff. I'll just repaint my deck and when I can afford a 1quality product.
why people still use foam is beyond me , its a very out dated way of filling spaces & becomes water logged after a few years ... its way better to pre fill empty gaps with plastic bottles & then foam them into place , less chance of water logging & if your boat ever gets a hole in it the bottles will provide buoyancy & stop you sinking

Great video Jeff! Looking foward to that project down the road a bit.

Very nice looking job! Best of luck with it!
You mentioned "in the Florida sun" ..... that, is one formidable foe to face in battle.
That looks great, but it also looked like a lot of work. Nice job.
One advantage of being retired is I can take my time and not over do it in one day.
I’m glad I saw this because I was just looking at that EV foam for my boat 😬
Save your money and do it right. Aquatraction is a local Jax business. Great people.
Brought to you by the makers of Aqua Traction Marine Flooring.
@@yosemitesam1499 funny. Not sponsored. I paid for that install.
Different brands use different adhesives. If its the 3M backing, citrus cleaner works well to remove it. It will turn into a gel and just wipe away.

How long did the stuff that you replaced it with last or keep its appearance and structural integrity and would you buy it again?

Ya that looks amazing very good grip even in the rain.
I've gotta see your version.

Aqua Traction going on to 4 years and still looks great
Do you have footage of your old eva foam? How it looked after two years?
It was all cracked up and flaking away.
How much did the aqua traction cost you? After seeing this, looks like its worth the money to pay someone to give a great result.
$30 a sq foot
What was the cost difference between the EVA Foam and the Aqua Traction?
Depends on what your time to install the EVA is worth. The Aqua Traction was $30 a sq ft installed. My boat was about $1800 installed.
Did the boat sit uncovered in the sun? I just ordered some custom cut/but still not name brand Eva foam. Hoping it lasts 5 years minimum. I only go out on weekends May-Aug and boat sits covered when not in use
Covered under roof however I fish 5 days a week in Florida. So it’s exposed. The Aqua Traction is used by guides here and lasts up to 7 years.
Where did you get the custom foam ?
AquaTraction was installed at the end of the video.
A steamer might work to take off

Nice MDX.
that EVA foam is a total mess after a few years and it gets brown stains everywhere. The company that sells this needs to be sued, seriously!
How do u no the new stuff is different?
The Aqua Traction is used by guides here and lasts up to 7 years.

@@JeffBattleFish Is this mostly moored under full sun? What about under roof?
@@radamus210 I fish 4-6 days a week. Yes it is under roof the rest of the time.
Cool as it may be. , if you ever get it all off , you will
Never use it again !!!!!
Better to spend more for a professional product and install.
