So other then the fact I did not have the proper plate attached I was on private property in an empty parking lot and still managed to land in some trouble with the police. This video explains why you can still get in trouble on private property, no need to run when your doing nothing wrong just take your tickets and handle it later on in court.

I have to agree with you Phillip. I grew up loitering in just about every parking lot in my city. Almost everyone single one distinctly has a private property sign, as well as tow away signs, no loitering, and no trespassing. Just because the public has access to said private property does not entail that the private property has to enforce traffic laws on public streets. Our city is almost entirely owned by a private family and they lease all the plots of development land for almost every business in about 75% of the city. Even both our Walmart Super centers are leasing the land they are built on. Granted there are terms, conditions, and contracts, but no such thing as having to register a private parking for public use. Ridiculous shit.

It's legal on private property. There was a cop here that charged a man for letting his 8 year old kid do donuts in their own yard with the dad's truck. The dad sued and the lawsuit was dropped because it was on private property and the father gave the kid permission. Seriously can't stand this type of thing.

happen to me was on private trails but I had written consent from the owner of the property saying I can ride on these trails got pulled over and the cop said I was trespassing on private property but I have permission cop didn't want any of it had to call the owner and come down got off with a warning for not doing anything wrong in the first place and even questioned if the cop was trespassing since he's on the same trails without permission

Whenever someone comes on private property, it is at their own risk. Do what you want on private property. The State wants you to think that everyone is a slave, belonging to them, and you do as your told! I would charge the cops for expenses.
This cop is 100% WRONG, it's private property and they have no jurisdiction to do anything legal unless asked by the owners. Just because it's not fenced off, doesn't mean they have a right to ticket you. If this was the case, any parking lot, private property, or grassy backyard couldn't be used for "stunts".

I looked it up to see the legality in taking pictures of cars at a mall for an AI visual recognition project, and it still is private property. It doesn't matter if its accessible to the public. In my state, reckless driving is illegal whether on private property or not. It stated a few laws such as that and vehicular manslaughter are charges that can be on private land. I think these laws would probably be in most states because it only makes sense. We need a charge that is specific to wheelies, so it can be okay on private and a smaller charge on public

That first cop talked the hardest shit i have ever heard. When you are on private property you can do anything you can. No matter if your bike is registered or if there drive cars when the owner says it's ok you are allowed to do it.
Lot's of comments stating whether it is legal or not - it depends on the State/Province. Living in Ontario and the Highway Traffic Act only applies to highways and roads. Parking lots do not come under that. If people are driving dangerously in a parking lot an officer can hold you and call the owner (if they wish to press chargers for trespassing,) otherwise they cannot do anything.

I have been cited for stunting in parking lots, and had my bike impounded because it wasn't registered. This was in an industrial park, even though I brought it there in my truck, and didn't ride it on the street. I tried to fight it in court, citing exactly what you are saying.
CA penal code does state that private businesses open to the public who provide public access to those businesses are subject to motor vehicle laws.

In canada the law defines the highway as regularly traveled portion of the highway and privet and publicly owned parking lots are exempt
So basically with parking lots they can get you with reckless driving if the property is publicly accessible AND you don’t have permission from the owner but since you do have permission from the owner you wouldn’t meet the requirements for reckless driving.

gonzotopia1 watch the news they definitely don't like them how many of them have fallen down in the past 3 years or so what about a hundred of them maybe. I think America is not too happy with them. When I want to find out what's going on I just watch the news. Sometimes I think I need to get a beer and watch the news if I get to see the headlines before they actually do the news broadcast. I mean it's like reality TV.

It's private property... You can build 40ft dirt jumps and take motocross bikes off them on private property, why is this any different?

I mentioned this to him via UA-cam but, next year when the St. Pete Grand Prix comes to town, usually at the end of March beginning of April, you should volunteer there. You can volunteer for 1,2,3 days. Its a whole lot of fun. Fast cars, meet famous drivers, hot women and they feed you once a day. If you decide to do it, ask to be at grand stand 10. Its the best place to watch. You simply check peoples tickets and make sure that people are at the right place. They will explain it at the orientation the week before. They give you t-shirts and a hat. I did it for 5 yrs straight.
