The sad thing is that this movie was intended as a satire, not a shockingly accurate prediction. The smartest people I know have few or zero kids, whereas the dumbest people I know have so many that I weep for the future of the species.
Smart people can produce dumb children, and dumb people can produce smart children. The entire premise of Idiocracy is based on flawed assumptions about how genes are passed down.
Probably the strongest case for “life imitating art”. I remember watching this the first time (back in 2013, now 4 times) I thought “wow, this can easily become very accurate”. This movie has gone from comedy to horror in my book.
This movie's supposedly "dumb" President Camacho has two huge and rare virtues: first, he genuinely wants to make the country better; and second, he knows his own limitations and seeks advice from someone smarter. Can't say either of those things about certain real-world presidential candidates.

I WISH we were living in the world of Idiocracy. You know, a time and place where when the smartest person came along, people put him in charge and listened to him. Because we have some pretty smart people in the world right now. And so far, no one is listening to them at all.
And that brings us to the real flaw in this movie: The stupid people in this movie know that they lack intelligence and knowledge. This puts them way ahead of the real existing stupid people.

I thought the sequel played every day on the news
The concept for Idiocracy, was lifted from a novel by Frederick Pohl and C. M. Kornbluth titled "Marching Morons". I hope their estate was compensated....Read it, is funnier than the film and yet very sinister.
Thanks. I just ordered both.
Thanks, you're exactly right! I remember reading an abridged version of that novel in a SF magazine around 1980. Totally prescient.
Both meaning 'The Little Black Bag' and 'The Marching Morons.'
Thanks for the heads up. Added to my reading list.
So Pohl invented warm watter?
It’s scary how true this movie is becoming.
20 years later, everything is unfolding just as it predicted
When the movie came out, it was science-fiction comedy. Now it is a documentary.
All the comments here are exactly the same. "This is a documentary". "This is scary to watch now". And all the rest. You are all just as m!ndless as the people in this movie, do you realize that? Having your faux-intellectual discussions on a youtube video. None of you are nearly as smart as you think you are. And neither am I, but at least I admit it. And by the way, this movie is what's known as "predictive programming". You think it's just a coincidence that all this stuff came true? No. It's been in the works for a long, long time, and people in Hollywood have always known about it. Stop being sheep.
Wanna car? Gotta have a driver’s license. Wanna serve drinks? Take a class. Wanna have 10 kids? Just get busy.

Idiocracy, the documentary.
Prison guard: "What's your name?"
Not Sure: "Not Sure."
Thank you for clipping this! I've seen Idiocracy many times and often recommend it to people (we thought Network was precient!), but for many the reason I recommend it boils down to this clip. So, It's just enough that they can watch it with less commitment, and introduces the plot to leave them wanting more (ie, How _did_ a simple librarian change the course of human history?).
Laughed my @$$ off watching this movie in the theater when it came out. Stoped laughing immediately after leaving the theater. Such a sad statistic.
Great documentary.
The sad thing is that this movie was intended as a satire, not a shockingly accurate prediction. The smartest people I know have few or zero kids, whereas the dumbest people I know have so many that I weep for the future of the species.
So you believe in eugenics?
@@XJapanGonnaGiveItToYa-cd4xj Eugenics is key to our survival. If our species IQ keeps declining we won't be able to solve our future problems.
Absolutely. And if you were smart, you'd believe in them too.
Smart people can produce dumb children, and dumb people can produce smart children. The entire premise of Idiocracy is based on flawed assumptions about how genes are passed down.
@@XJapanGonnaGiveItToYa-cd4xj You don't?
Probably the strongest case for “life imitating art”. I remember watching this the first time (back in 2013, now 4 times) I thought “wow, this can easily become very accurate”. This movie has gone from comedy to horror in my book.
This movie's supposedly "dumb" President Camacho has two huge and rare virtues: first, he genuinely wants to make the country better; and second, he knows his own limitations and seeks advice from someone smarter. Can't say either of those things about certain real-world presidential candidates.
I hadn't noticed that. First saw the movie after the 2016 election and was blown away by the accuracy of the prediction. But now you've given me food for thought. Maybe not so accurate in a couple crucial areas.
