"I will hold your hand while you mill them out" - CGB on first date probably ❤
He is married, tho
@@biancalages1431 That means it worked!
@@biancalages1431 Milled her out.
@@KIA130123 😳😳😳
Let’s ask CovertGoGina about their first date! 😊
Watching control mirrors is like watching a jujitsu match
More like jujutsu

My 2 fav things to do and watch
Fr
It was beautiful to watch him play chess against himself for the last 10 minutes holding counters looking for Jace, then when he finally finds it the opponent has 1 NML, he pays the mana, and wins
Whoever gave me this membership thanks!
tbh didn't know you could gift memberships lol
You’re welcome
It was me :)
It was also me
np mate
Appreciate the time you took to cover the tournament I know it was a marathon. ❤
idk why but watching mono red aggro players just crumble and desperately look for that last bit of damage to finish but just cant is satisfying
lack of love in childhood maybe or some other trauma could explain that ;)
Pure schaudenfreude
Three Steps Ahead just makes me miss Sublime Epiphany in standard, though I know Three Steps Ahead is more flexible. I just really love Sublime Epiphany 😂
WU control did amazing! Yuta Takahashi took it all the way to the finals... Aaaand got rolled by pretty much the same domain deck that has been plaguing standard since ONE got printed a year and a half ago 😞
Half of this deck rotates out soon so make sure to spend those wild cards wisely lol
Thank God. I'm tired of my fun being ruined by 3 year old cards
@@tgatt5759 no worries.. your fun will get ruined by new cards soon enough..
How Can i See What rotates?
@@patrickbringer3894 All sets between MID and SNC will rotate out as the 4 oldest sets in Standard. So that's MID, VOW, NEO and SNC. Anything from DMU onwards will still be standard legal come rotation
@@patrickbringer3894 just google: "what's in standard" and click the first link
The amount of rigging that goes on in this game is kinda funny, starting with the Shuffler and finishing with "you gonna play mirror because it's annoying"
I see you've drank the CGB Kool-Aid :)
I literally only play dinosaur decks when I play orzhov lifegain and mono-red when I play midrange green, so fixed matches are definitely a thing
@@Marthisdil I've drank queueing ranked matches vs just a play button 😭
@tgatt5759 i bet you also believe in flat earth and 5g vaccines
@@tgatt5759 "Oh you like playing UW flyers? Here's ten straight games against angels! Have fun!"
I love how you answer some random comments. Please keep that in future videos.
It's a great pace breaker.
Why was no one exited about Three Steps Ahead? I was immediately thinking WTF, but it wasn't paid much attention at all. Every card reviewer was going over the commander cards with walls of texts that they really need to stop putting in standard.
Aha I knew the ideal control deck would have 4 copies of Three Steps Ahead! I feel so validated!
I’ve been playing azorious control since I started playing arena. A little piece of tech that I’ve recently added that helps me pull infront of either the mirror or against atraxa is a little sorcery called Jetsam. It’s six mana (2 dimir pips and 4 colorless) and here’s what it says “target opponent mills 3 cards, you may play target non land permanent from opponents graveyard without paying its mana cost”. That means I can cast either their Jace (if it’s a mirror) or the opponents big bad. Everytime I resolve that spell, I’ve won that interaction.
56:25 I already did both years ago! Stop yelling at me! *sobs*
I would think Get Lost should replace Destroy Evil. It’s way more versatile, and you can often remove the opponents map tokens with Temporary Lockdown. Also as an alternative win-condition,I’d try Hullbreaker.
That first game was great to watch.
that final game was hilarious i suck at playing control but its still pretty cool to watch it happen well
Is it me or does the thunder junction music in arena sound like the terran music from StarCraft?
Just about closed the video but paused to hit like at the end. Nice guilt trip, Mr CGB. Well played
3 steps ahead is just cakes on the brain at home
High Noon is better in bo1 than lockdown imo, add in a couple Crystal Grotto/ Celestus and it can even be a wincon. High Noon turn 2, then if u can land Stoic Sphinx later with counter magic in hand the game is pretty much yours
Nassif is still playing magic!!! Wow
When you use all three modes of Three Steps Ahead, it's a 3 for 1. Very flavorful.
Can 3 steps ahead copy a powered up Anchorage and gain you a land?
Yes it can! :D
Great video, great list!
Really like the "responding to top comment" bit, that's a fun new twist :)
38:18 is perhaps the most satisyfing thing I've seen in a long time.
It has to be the most boring and least fun archetype to play against is Azorius or Dimir wrath-control.
faxx
Literally. I'm not asking permission to play the game.
@@tgatt5759 Yes, as you do not communicate with the other players in MTG Arena, that would be a safe assumption.
🤓☝️@@Dragon_Fyre
I know we are all here for the same reason but I just want to keep saying I love control and even control vs control. Match 1 was amazing. Master of the Minds.
Best hour of my day today. Thanks.
I will say that I prefer your other Azorious from the last week or so with the Sphinx in it. It honestly feels like it also has better matchups against some of the decks that can play the long game as well which is nice.
Wait, do I have to press like to deserve a "you're ccol"?! Deal! Worth it!
You do you,
Play While and Blue!
I always figured I could never play control, but watching you is encouraging me to try to git gud. Obviously, I'm not nearly in your league, let alone top 8 national player league, but it's fun to try to get there some day. ;)
You made a video not too long ago, explaining how Wandering Emp is kinda overrated and how you had better results running 1 copy.
What are your thougts on why it's shifted back to being good in outlaws?
Great content as always! :D
25:05 / 57:24 I thought the video was already over with that transition 💀
very cool deck Mesa Falcon Guy 👍
Wasn't there a Hullbreaker Horror in the side board?
36:50 there is the convoke instant that deals 4 dmg I've seen it on the ladder
CGB in control. Nice!
this is not a man who brings wincons
hell yeah another video to watch soon CGB. here's your comment for the moneysss
I would've put that Mono red player on full control and cast every counter on the play with fire
Man, I'd love to play this deck but don't want to spend my precious Wildcards on Wandering Emporer and Deluge if they rotate with the next set anyways :(
Can you play with Kellan the Kid, i am offended with how little is the content without him
Will you be playing the 2nd place Azorious deck, later?
The enemy probably didnt have a jace. You were just paranoid perhaps haha
56:31 All you guys called out!! I was subbed years ago and liked before the video started.
This standard is cracked, but i need more snorse combo in my life.
CGB had a handful of NOPE in that first game…
Maybe I just suck at magic, but watching CGB let the opponent slam every wandering emperor with 6 counter spells in hand is infuriating lol
Watching the final again, I think Yuta could have won both game 1 and 3 if he had played it right. Should have pressured more G1, should have kept in some sweepers G3 (Mani said he boarded them all out). I don't think he understood the match up well enough. Was an amazing game either way, just sad to not see UW take the trophy.
Honest question from the newest of Newbies:
In what kind of healthy state is MTGA right now?
I saw the red Aggro deck killing in 3-4 turns, then I see this deck and as much as I like to control dominate my opponents and blow their monsters up...this doesn't look very healthy. This green red dinosaur deck I encountered in bronze 5 it dealt 21 damage to me on turn 3 or 4 as well.
It doesn't look very healthy that most games seem to be over after 4 turns or last until a player decks out... is this really the current meta?
Are you guys fine with this? Is this better than before? Is this worse than before? How long does this state usually last? Is it more likely to become even quicker due to powercreep?
If anybody could answer me these questions BEFORE I dump my complete free time into this card game it would be much appreciated because I have lived through years that were the slow death of gwent with the game getting progressively worse for many years I do not need another such experience and would just happily watch these videos instead without tormenting myself.
I would say that the game is in a pretty fine spot right now. Like you said, some decks can kill you on turn 4, but you can tech pretty easily against them. All in all, while there are a handful of tier 1 outliers, you can still find several fun tier 2 decks you can enjoy and succed. For example, i managed to achieve mythic rank this month while playing a control cave deck, an azorius artifact craft deck, and a monoblack skeleton aggro deck. Of course the long rotation makes everything feel a bit stale sometimes, so there is that to consider.
Raffine was the new Goldspan Dragon. The question is where is the next Raffine?
Very strange comparison. There's nothing similar between these two cards.
Play pattern, deck archetype, stats, colors.. nothing
@@yavivanov6650 I agree, they have almost nothing in common, but they dominated standard basically the entire time, cause they pushed one archetype to “the next step” thanks to their value. I expect to see soon released the “next Raffine” before the old one rotates put.
whats the logic behind throwing twe's into predicted counters at 3:00? the deck is already so low on wincons
I support you CGB, control is my favourite archetype. I haven't played arena in years, played a few sets after it came out, should really get back into it! Discovered you through rarran :)
Great Video
Whirlwind slamming keep on 3 lands with 4 4 mana spells is some degenerate shit
5:24 how many counters you got? A lot.
- 21 CGB
Yet... Yuta's went to Finals. You werent 3 steps ahead haha
3:53 - Huh, I didn't know that "wrestling" meant "staring" in Michigan.
How final showdown works vs prowess? Does it reset the stats boost or just remove the ability and they keep the new stats if they activate on response?
CGB: Azorius Control Video
Game 1: 25 minute Bo1 Azorius Control Mirror
man how do you script these videos so easily XD
How does anyone get to mythic running control. It's not the best deck in the format for win percentage and the games run so long? I think control is super fun if I'm playing a game or two tops with friends, but damn the patience someone must have to run mythic on control is a level I do not have.
You answered yourself. Patience is the key. You have it or you don't have it.
They dont. They spam wins with actual competitive decks to rank up then play control once they are already in mythic.
Hot bant is the new monster just wait and see it will be the reason main deck enchantment hate will become the norm if the deck continues to prove itself 😅
Love to watch simple, honest, masterfull blue-white control =)
A yellowhat deck that isn't Dimir? Sad day in the Arena 😔
The Setting:
It's around Turn 8, both players are at 20 life and have about 6 to seven Cards in Hand and all Land Drops were hit. Counterspells and Card draw were sling like no day before. The, dare i say, ultimate control mirror...
Cgb: "let's try to be aggressive"🗿🗿🗿
I've been using Ikawas deck
I'm a combo hater. I might not be happy that UW control crushes every creature pile I try to create, but it doesn't make me as salty as a combo deck.
Where are the Brawl videos?
at 52 minutes ish, couldn't he Destroy Evil on the Carnosaur while Angelfire is on the stack?
March exiles the card so it can't be reanimated.
Is half this deck getting rotated out? Me sad
the absolute methodical, slow grinding match that is a control mirror is why i love CGB and Magic in general. No room for soft "im bored after 3 turns" aggro-bois here. Its big brain time!
Counter spell on turn two is just as brainless. Board wipe what I can't counter is just as brainless. No actual win-con is just as brainless.
@@tgatt5759 nobody said aggro players were brainless. They just have short attention spans lol
Understanding how to play against it is kind of key, but there really is an amazing consistency in UW Control in the first 4-6 turns. Card draw on 1, no more lies on 2, lock down on 3, turn 4 will either be a Wandering Emperor or Deluge, sweeper on 5, then it's counterspell, counterspell, board wipe, Jace. With some card draw here and there and then it's just top deck city. Control on Control is a lot more intense from a brain power perspective than Control vs Aggro or Mid-Range, but it's the same basic fight over and over again otherwise. I really wish they would bring back some green and/or red land destruction to balance out the board wipes.
I mean, if you're not first, your last.
You got the first “you’re” right, but then blew it on the second one 😢
@@jamesstevenson3116 Does Ricky Bobby concern himself with grammar? I think not.
1st game < watching paint dry
love the read comments!
One counterspell for another.
Basically the same UW control we've been seeing for months (years?).
Personally I'd rather see some new interesting builds, don't really care if this is what won the pro-tour.
Bro lost to cavern of souls.
Three Steps Ahead is like a nerfed yet better Sublime Epiphany in most cases because it’s not a hard 6 mana card and can be utilized in every stage of the game practically.
Wouldn't it be a crime to target the button?
You have no real win conditions...
I wish I was super rich. I'd buy WOTC and make it so that every single red creature in the future would have Prowerss, Menace, Trample and Haste. Every single one. If they want to make everyone play red aggro, then let's just get it over with.
Haste is so ridiculously broken, it's not even funny.
There's a reason why Richarg Garfield put summoning sickness in the game. And back then creatures absolutely sucked.
OOF. Get ready for more control mages joining the meta! Everyone's a copycat. LOL
I have been fully assimilated into UW Control -- resistance is futile!
So you hate actually playing cards is what you're saying?
Wow wandering emporer, memory delughe much different much impressive. 😴
Get out Mono Red.
I'm alright subscribed but like, if you really want me to press the button again
!
30 mins of doing nothing in the first game and empty board.. *smh* what a load of shite
the rest in peace in the side board is weird, will eat out the memory deluges
Kills a pretty obnoxious deck outright for 2 mana
@@ashtheswan705 I dont know, I tried to replicate an expression from my native language, but I guess that wasn't good
@@lincolnprestes7617 i get what you mean, but in english "eat out" is slang for going down on a woman, so that other person was just making a joke lol
So boring with no win cons... Go play with yourself in the corner
the most boring shit i have watched in a while
I question the motive of anyone watching this channel who hates blue/white control. Maybe monored players hoping to catch some revenge salt on the losses? Okay - I pushed the like button.
