The tooling resolution on that is just amazing. Unbelievable how far modern cnc has come. Just because you have the tools, though, doesn't mean that you can just instantly do this either. The knowledge of the equipment, and the programmers behind it truly are world class.

Love the contrast between the lion and the base on the final shot. It throws you off at first because you'd think you might want a beautifully shaped polished base - but with it left like that, it's a fantastic display of the before and after. Mastery

    • @gabewrsewell

Definitely. And it's something that can't really be replicated by casting or moulds. You know by seeing that base that they did it the hard way

      RAM memory: 4 GB
Program memory: SSDR approx. 32 GB
      HDR approx. 160 GB
I've personally downloaded prog's of over 100,000 blocks ... and only takes second's to download from USB ...

For anybody that's wondering that roughly $5,000 in titanium, $2,000-$3,000 worth of carbide tooling and if it was a customer probably $3000 worth of machine time so that lion head is worth $10,000+! That's pretty bad ass especially when you figure an aluminum one would still cost $5,000 if you walked into a cnc machine shop and said "I want one of these please".

I work in a manufacturing company that runs machines 24hrs a day. I personally don't run them, I just load the metal billets in a Okuma and then bring them over to a Mori Seiki to be finished. I've been here for almost a year and even working 12 hrs a day I'm still astonished that a solid piece of steel goes in and comes out into whatever shape possible. I've learned a lot and I believe this is something I truly want to be doing for the rest of my life.

@@Ozziepeck11The G-Code and however the CNC machine handled it is nothing in terms of code complexity. You need the generating software to be able to manage the 3D structure of the part being machined with enough precision without using insane amounts of storage, memory, or processing power. I've been keeping up with your channel since the success of the first marble machine and I must say, I am anxious to see (and hear) the result of all this work but it only makes me happier to see you and the team doing it *right* this time. I'm a student of mechanical engineering and it is interesting to see you learning from your team and all sorts of youtubers that I also enjoy watching. Keep up the work, Martin!
If you do see this comment, I would love to see a video in the future on how you come up with music for the marble machine. This will probably evolve as you actually work with the completed machine, but it isn't like a guitar or a keyboard where you can play some notes and chords and see what comes of it. Is it a more theory-based approach?
      Cheers from Ohio, USA!

diameter of the titanium piece 9.5 inch = 0.2413 metre
    surface of the base : 0,2413²×π⁄4 = 0.046m²
    length 17 inch = 0.4318 metre
    total volume 0.046*0.4318 = 0.020m³
the density of Ti/6Al/4V (cast) is 4.43*10³ kg/m³
    so the weith must be 0.020*4.43*10³ = 88.6 kg(194lbs)
but you claim that the titaniam piece weith 218 lbs(98.9kg)
so how can you explain that 22 lbs difference (10.3kg)?

thats the craziest cnc i've seen in my life. There are a lot of machines that can create a nice surface, the challenge is when the model has a lot of details or a uneven surface, this machine can do it both. 6:00 amazing job whoever programmed this!

I don't know if this story is relevant nowadays but I was a CNC Cad cam post processor programmer back in about 2003 ish.
I remember getting a demo of a ceramic cutting tool that worked best with no cooling.. The machinists were perplexed. They knew machine tools had to be cooled at high speeds. I was new to CNC tech just as new programmer in the department but I'll never forget the old machinists backing further away as this this tool went faster and faster.
It was like Voodoo to them. The had seen it but they could not believe it.
    Luv and Peace.

They propably dont work with cooling :D just a few ceramics can work with cooling because they can withstand temperature changes better than other ceramics. But i know what you mean there are alot of changes from the past. The machines are way faster and in the same time more precise. You can describe it as insane.

Amazing guys. I like the saying at the end. The most important comment I have heard. "If you fail trying you have not failed, you have learned in the process so keep on walking up to it. " So positive. My ex manager once said that if you don't take chances you will not get anywhere. Truth in both statements. 👍👍👍
