I just got this razor in the mail and shaved with it today, it was amazing. One pass and I was done, completely smooth with no irritation or cuts whatsoever. And I'll add that I had 4 days of facial hair growth.
I bought a DE about 8 years ago to learn how to use straight razor.I used it for about 2 months and practiced using both hands and getting the feel of blade angels. I purchased a valued priced shavette and used it for 7 years. Very rarely so much as nicked myself. I recently got a traditional straight razor and a sharping stone, strop watched your vids to learn how to use them and WOW! The sound and feel are awesome, the traditional is not as sharp and the blade is considerably longer than the shavette but how cool it is to look in the mirror and shave like a man. Thank You for what you do.
41c is among the most underrated razors. Now I would grab that instead of DE89 if I started all over again as a beginner. Extremely useful for those winter months when I keep a long beard and just shave a bit on the cheeks and neck. you cannot outline a beard precisely with a safety bar, you need an open comb, and a mild one as this is perfect for those who have sensitive skin + coarse beard and tend to develop irritation easily like me. Not aggressive at all with its neutral-negative blade exposure and small blade gap. Difficult to get BBS though compared to other more efficient razors, but the downside with these is that you need to be more careful
Yes Geo, I do still have my original tan color GEO BOWL 👍 Just has one little chip on the base. Over so many years of use. Cheers from Phoenix, Arizona. Keep On Shavin'...
One interesting piece of Merkur history -- Emil Hermes founded his company in 1896 in Solingen. Since the brand name Hermes was already taken, he chose the Roman name of the messenger of the gods Hermes, so the name MERKUR was registered as a trademark.
What a great video. Thank you Geo, really great this history flashback Maybe in the next video, you can show us your all time favorite razors, it would be nice!!
Great History on those razors! I have the closed comb version 1904 & I always liked the look of that razor as well as the shave I got from using it. Have a great weekend Geo! May you & your family stay Safe & Healthy!👍😎
When you become an "old man", (65+) your skin becomes more loose, wrinkled and scared especially the neck and so aggressive razors and blades are out. Especial if your take blood tinning meds. My best combo is a Merkur 38c (2 pc safety razor) and easy to clean and a "Ladas super stainless" razor blade. I can usually get 4, 3 pass smooooth shaves on one blade for some good BBS shaves. Thanks Geo for your videos on you tube that got my back shaving like I did when I first started so many years ago.
Hi Geo- Great shave and razor review; thank you! Nice-looking razor. Fantastic lather, as well! Please be safe and be well! Take good care and enjoy the rest of the weekend! Best regards, as always!
I'm gonna want to add the open comb version to my collection eventually. I just recently purchased the Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements brass-handled nickel-plated DOC razor, and although called mild, the open comb head and base plate design compensate for the lighter weight. The knurling on that baby far surpasses anything I've tried yet, including Merkur 34c, Gillette Heritage-Inspired, Weishi 9306, and Viking's Blade Emperor Augustus!
Hi Geo, you and Sinatra Lennon are the only non-italian speaking "Shavetubers" that I follow. He is a bit on the funny side and relaxing in fact is aka ""The Bob Ross of Shaving"; on your side I love the good technical advices you dish out and you I get to know how the States market compares to the one in Europe and Italy in particular. Keep it up Geo... Greetings from Sicily 🤗👍
Hi mate try watching PaulHFilms he's another good wet shaver to watch. He's Welsh and from the same town as me. I love his videos and I'm sure you will too.
I tried the 42C and for me personally I couldn’t get a close enough shave with it and I’ve read different reviews on Amazon people saying the same thing I had to end up going back over my face again with the electric razor to finish shaving on the 3rd pass and that got it I’ll just have to use my electric razor also whenever I use that razor it is a really nice razor for traveling though since the handle is short.
I have this same razor and I love it but I can understand why some gents might find it hard to hold onto. If you're having difficulty holding onto any of your razors while shaving, run your fingertips across your alum block and then pick up your razor. Instant grip improvement.
I use to have the open comb version of this razor, it did an ok job but I never did like the handle as it was very uncomfortable to hold because of the hexagonal design. I much prefer my Merkur 15c razor instead.
The 1904 is excellent value for the price. The cheapest razor I have, in fact, but not at all my worst. Like you, I didn't find it particularly aggressive, and I don't even have that heavy beard growth. I really like the 1904, though. It does fine by me.
Hi Geo, great video! I learned the history of my razor, it was cool! Thx! May I ask about what’s the difference between 15C and 41C? Which is more aggressive? Thank you very much. Clear the runway and have a great shave.
Hope all is well with you and you are staying safe. Bit of a niche item but how about a review of the Merkur Moustache Razor. I know it has some pretty poor reviews, but does it have a place in a razor collection?
It's a nice little razor in theory. But the blades need some tweaking. Never seem to be sharp enough to remove my beardage easily... shavenation.com/products/merkur-mustache-and-eybrow-razor-trimmer?_pos=2&_sid=07bf6e62a&_ss=r
Lovely history lesson Geo. Love that you just go for all sorts of different razors in your shaves other than the latest models the likes of Global seem to roll off the conveyor belt! Just a request : Can you reduce the power of the light in your room? It obliterates any details because it shines so bright against polished finished gear.
Another great history lesson and shave Geo. Question does Merkur make a longer handle but same head as the 41C. I'm a tough bearded gent too. If not is there a handle you would recommend. Thanks sir. The best to you and your amazing family
I love the 34c and wanted something just a little more aggressive and this looks like the razor im looking for. I just ordered it from Shave Nation. The price was lower than expected. Thanks for doing these videos. They really help 👍
Great shave, Geo. I’ve got a 1920s model open comb razor from Gillette. My question is this: while I usually shave daily with little beard growth, it feels to me that the razor only cuts on one side and the other doesn’t. Is it possible that the alignment of the blade, or the razor is damaged? I mean, it is over a century old. The fact it shaves at all suits me.
I'm a simple Man. I see a new Video from Geo and so i click as fast as i can 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ha Ha ! Love it Ronny!

Best one-pass shaving experience by miles , even with sensitive skin and mild beardgrowth!

I've received my Merkur 41c, and the other shaving supplies you sent me. That 41c is now my daily driver.
Thanks Geo!
Is the 41C suitable for those of us who get a little lazy with the frequency of our shaves?
One of the nicest-looking handles. The shape and etching are terrific. If the handle was another 1/2” longer it would be my favorite razor.
As an avid history buff and wet shaver this was a spectacular double play. Way to turn two! 🤘🏼
thanks Bradley, I'm glad I covered your 2 sweet spots! Next up: The Triple Play!

Thanks RK-This one took some research...
Belli,which is more agressif?
Love your videos. How would you compare the aggression of the 42c vs the 34c? I have a 42 and it too mild for me.
Those 2 razors are going to be very similar shaving.

Nice!
I recently bought a tub of TOBS lemon lime cream due to GFT limes was out of stock. I was wondering if I can get a comparison or an opinion.
Having tried several creams from both brands, I'd say the Trumpers give a slightly thicker lather.
Unfortunately GFT is in a holding pattern as a result of the Covid-19... Between those 2, I do prefer the scent of the GFT.

Give it a close look with a magnifier or measure it with a micrometer if you have one. Sounds like its out of alignment, or a bad blade.
I would suggest trying a different open comb razor when you get the opportunity and see if it makes a differences.
Which is the better shaver? 15c/41c🤔
It's like what's better Buick or Pontiac? YMMV
Does the 42C have the same head as the 34C? They look very similar.
@geofatboy what is your favorite razor & blade to use, your absolute go to?
How are you Geo, I hope you and your family are doing well. Stay safe out there. 😃
Hi Samuel we are great, you as well I hope.
Great to hear Geo, I’m doing very well thanks for asking.
Does the Merkur 23c have the same head as the Merkur 34 HD?
3 pice to 2 pice-but very similar.
