- We've tried to find the best one color commander in cEDH before, but we were inconclusive. Strap in for a LONG match.
WE HAVE
Heliod - A creature focused stax deck that attempts to maximize interaction and finish with a few one card combos. www.moxfield.c...
Naru Meha - This draw-go control deck looks to control the board until it can find a win involving ghostly flicker.
www.moxfield.c...
Yawgmoth -A Control/Combo deck that looks to clear the board of creature's for it's draw engine, until it can turn that into an infinite loop.
tappedout.net/...
Selvala - This is a fast, storm deck, that looks to achieve infinite mana, ending on some kind of recursion loop, or a big finale of devastation

This is a good format for EDH. I like playingwithpower and mtgmuddstah, but it's nice to hear everyone interacting with each other. While still being edited down so there isn't long gaps where people are just shuffling or thinking through lines and there isn't much happening. Plus, having the occasional cut-in to talk about misplays or what their intended move was, etc. is also nice too since it helps add context to decisions y'all are making. Subbed.
It's the same format, but I get what you are saying
@@natebeal18 I think he meant video format, not format like edh, modern, etc
Well duhh.. it’s edited to so that we do t have to watch them make decisions lol..
I say DAYUM my guy!
I truly couldn't have said it better myself!
These guys rock!
said what we were all thinking
Fantastic as always! Loved the video and the music. I definitely felt that first song. It felt like Yawgmoths anthem.
It took me so long to understand how he was able to cast so many creatures in response to the Ambience. Emergence Zone goes brrr
I love how fast paced this is but it also has time for the occasional “this is what I was going to do” or the “this is how I fucked up”. Really enjoyable to hear everyone’s thoughts in a compact method. You earned yourself a sub
Isn’t it crazy to think that only a couple years ago anticipate was a reasonable card to play in low color..,well, realistically one color cedh decks?
Even dark confidant sees almost no play these days and snap caster mage is generally not good enough. Crazy to think of all the powerhouse cards that aren’t good enough today and that anticipate was in a decklist just two years ago. I don’t even know if impulse sees play in any deck these days.. prob not right? But anticipate!
Wow
The power creep is real
Doesn't Necropotence exile discarded cards? Also love emergence zone.
It exiles. Big yikes when I saw him lay them out in the graveyard.
It does, dylan just doesnt like the exile zone so he dont exile things
Never mattered anyway. BROSTORM
Oh yesssss I even mentioned that off camera and then just like completely forgot? In my brain I exiled them
@@PlaytoWinMTG shit happens
Heliod cheating that whole second game. Also give him spellseeker so he has to pay 2 for the etb
He wouldn't have needed to pay 2 on ETB. He had enough mana to cast it that turn and he already paid for Leonin Arbiter which lasts the entire turn
29:14
magical force of will being cast on gary when nobody could cast non-creature spells that turn (ranger captain of eos)
...ive been robbed...
@@PlaytoWinMTG ive had a yawgmoth deck since he basically came out. it hurt me irl seeing it. wife called the ambulance. they said it was a severe case of archenemy.
if you play the deck focusing more on -1/-1 counter control (dusk urchins, necroskitter, black sun zenith) and add in some burn (bloodchief ascension, ayara, kokopuffs/kokosho) -- you would smash the other decks on the table lol
Do you have your yawgmoth list to share?
@@aagameac monoblack always gets focused, even if our board state is not great
@@vitorzelao I thought that was mono blue.
don't fret about the missplays, I think that one of the main appeals of this channel is how casual it feels
Commentary was great this week. Super high energy while also adding to understanding of the game. Well done guys.
The Game Knights of cEDH
But actual PROPER commentary instead of buffoonery.
@@orsettomorbido Jimmy "I play an island on turn 1, this is great because my deck is blue and it allows me to fix my mana right away, I'm off to a great start" jokes aside, it's what turned me off their channel.
Michael Garratt that’s a great way to explain for super new players/players who’ve never heard about magic to kinda keep up with the game and the player’s logic.
@@Summoningz it is, but their earlier videos never did that, over time its increased in the amount of talking they do, it'll get to the point where there is a cutscene after every single play, it becomes quite annoying for players who know what's going on.
@@mgarratt101 i've stopped watching them after i saw josh play at a starcity event on twitch. he was winnig pretty hard and got focused because otherwise he would have killed the one by one he tried to use his politcs but he failed because he was winning and he got very salty towards the table making unnecessary comments about it was unfair that he got focused. so after that i never watched a video from them again.
19:04 I'm pretty sure a land wasn't played for turn here, so the forest sent back to hand could be played to acquire that additional 1 green mana needed to go infinite?
Dylan looks like James Franco. Keep up the good work.
Dylan looks like a lot of people.
Not seeing my boy godo :( I'd argue he's better than heliod stacks as everyone has to hold interaction for his turn every time or risk losing at early as turn 2.
It's not just mono decks, I use emergence zone in my gitrog which allows me to go off at instant speed no matter what.
allen amatuccio same one Korvold Food Chain
That intuition pick is a tricky one. That might have been a moment where I'd ask the rest of the table about available interaction, since you're in a choose-and-lose scenario.
I feel intuition and the like should be at least discussed.
Great content as usual, guys; these matches were amazing! All the colors really got to do what they do best. These matches felt like, as Cam said: "How Magic was designed to be played."
And a shout out to my favorite card, Intuition! It requires so much thought to use correctly and forces the opponent to really consider the lines that are available given the three cards that are tutored up. Game 2 showed so well that sometimes there isn't really a "right" choice, and that the choice itself comes down to...intuition.
Really love your videos ! Please continue (small remark, adding name to people section could be usefull to follow some stack interaction)
Dylan low key looking like a snack. There I said it.
Without watching it yet, I'm pretty sure the answer will always be the green one. Autumn Willow could take down any of those scrub colors.
I think Godo, Urza, and Yisan weren't included for a few reasons. A deck with a huge reaction package would be required to keep that table in check in the 4th slot. Trying to keep to different colors in each slot leaves W or Bl. I'm thinking Yisan's win favor goes up with Heliod stacks due to being able to play through a chunk of stacks pieces and Yawgmoth tips scales away from Yisan, a little towards Godo, and Heavily towards Urza. I think if you are playing to win and want a comparable win rate, you can't include those decks.
On the first game, Force of Despair did not actually stop the win. He could bounce all his creatures back to his hand with Sabertooth, re-cast them, and re-cycle Finale to give them haste and still win so.. That was a solid Selvala win.
He could force of despair in combat.
Deck techs, more cedh and in depth cedh alts in a more affordable fashion would be awesome.
I love the content and enjoy the gameplay.
Inclusive of all the misplays as well 😅
I look forward to all the videos
i'm only to the 10 minute mark and i found cheatcount 2 on cam. G1 didn't pay thalia tax on carpet. which allowed him to follow up with a mana dork, G2 activated his castle for 6 mana, 1 was used to activate selvala which is allowed, the other 5 shouldn't of been allowed to filter into tooth and nail and pay tax. I tried slowing that down I could be wrong but it's what it looks like
The play where you cast tooth & nail activating Castle isnt ilegal? You shouldnt be able to do It,right? REALLY REALLY enjoy the way you make videos guys, keep working cause youre fuckung uwusumu
Yeap, it says you can only use the mana created by castle's 2nd ability to cast creature or to pay creature's ability cost.
He would have had enough mana with the untapped forest since activating caste only nets one mana, but who knows how important getting rid of the grim monolith was in the overall game
Oh yesss you are correct
A 2021 look at the best mono colored lists would be spicy especially with Ashaya being a super nice mono green deck with an absurd amount of combos
During the first game Dylan also didn't exile the cards he discarded the turn he played necro
Heliod’s hatebear deck had the most influence but never felt like it was ever close to going off.
Hi there!
I'd love to hear from you what you think the best mono-blue deck is! I was looking into it, and built Kefnet Turns but this Naru Meha deck looks super super cool!
Who’s to say? Most would probably say urza. Depends on your play style
I think the consensus is Urza, but there are plenty of good Blue commanders. It’s such a strong color. Urza likely wins out because he solves the color’s biggest issue - ramp - while still retaining its control and card advantage.
I know this is an old video, but early in the game, when the person with nerco discard his card he was suppose to exile them as well
This looked like a blast to be a part of! Great vid my Bois!
Thanks!!
I've always been a commander 'purist' and maintained that it should be casual, but these videos have really opened up my eyes. I guess I was just mad about people not having the Rule 0 conversation about power levels. Either way, I love these videos and the personalities that shine through. Great work on the decks and making CEDH something that's accessible even to players who used to treat it as a dirty word. Thanks guys
I do love emergence zone. This showcased the card perfectly. I play it in a lot of decks tbh
whyyyy... he let phyrexian dreadnaught die and he could of tapped selvala for 12 holding priority sacrifice it to greater good drawing 12 cards
The Alms Collector was still on the table; he’d have just drawn 1 and discarded 3.
2:25 game 1
don't cards discard while Necroptence is in play become exiled?
Bit of a bummer to see Naru Meha submarine her way to a win twice in a row by mostly sitting back and tutoring combo pieces but I guess that's what you get when Selvala threatens to go off every other turn and the other two focus her down for her sins.
That said, great video as usual!
Yawgmoth didn't exile to Necro! Drove me insane when I seen it
Dude cam has the most contagious laugher.
Pretty fun games even though there were quite a bunch of small mistakes like the leonin arbiter one (idk if any other mistake had an actual impact). Emergence zone looked really good in that one game.
15:24 Spellseeker doesn't get exiled there because Samurai of the Pale Curtain says "permanent". Spellseeker never was a permanent since it wasn't on the battlefield. (The same mistake happened around minute 18:00). Samurai of the Pale Curtain isn't bad for a Kamigawa card but it ain't a Rest in Peace :D
For a visit to two color decks again I would really like to see a Winota stacks deck since there are so many good human targets like Thalia, magus of the moon, drannith magistrate, etc. A good hard lock could be Uba mask/possibility storm+drannith magistrate which as an added bonus you can dig for with winota. The main issue is the opening hand has to be pretty specific with wanting to play a stacks piece on turns one and two while also playing non-humans to trigger winota on hopefully turns 3-4.
Usually when someone casts Intuition, nothing is ever the right answer. Pick what your intuition tells you to. In this case: FoW was probably correct.
GG my dudes.
A stax deck helps a draw go deck who would off guessed. And rule of law counterspells is just soooo good to the point that the stax deck probably has to consider even playing it and leaving itself up to getting countered every spell of relevance without being able to fight back.
Great video. I think I give spell seeker, cause it is the most mana investment of the cards. I liked the decks, who would be the mono red commander, goto or someone else?
Been looking to get into cedh and i like that yall play multiple games so i can see how the interactions work. You got a sub from me
One mistake by Yawgmoth:
When you target a creature with the -1/-1 ability and that creature is removed before the ability resolved it will fisel and you don't draw a card
can you play dreadnought, sacrifice it to greater good, and in response tap selvala so it stacks in a way where you get the mana and the card draw?
yes you can
Normally yes, but the Alms Collector was still around, so he didn’t want to draw 1 and discard 3 again, so he just let the Dreadnought die to its own trigger.
Recently stumbled across you guys within the last couple days. Easily my favorite EDH channel since the Laboratory Maniacs ghosted.
Thank y’all so much for that! We had Richies birthday party yesterday. This meant a lot from all his friends.
Had to check the Oracle text to be sure, but in game 3 at 24:00 Invigorate only gives ONE opponent 3 life, not all opponents. Hard to say, but might have changed some of the math at the very end.
i really feel like K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth is far better than Yawgmoth, Thran Physician as paying life for the pips is very powerful and you can win in various different ways. Yawgmoth, Thran Physician wants you to lean into winning with infect or planeswalkers. His card advantage functionality is powerful, but you can do so much more with K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth.
i'm not sure, but i was sure i had left a comment on this video, maybe just wanting to point out how the Leonin Arbiter is ignored and abused for at least the first two games. Sometimes i wonder what compels a comment to even get deleted, obliviously if the comment is completely off topic or not helpful sure i could see that. Too long can be a reason. Definitely if it's rude and/or vulgar. But i don't remember my comment (if i had left one before) being any of those things.
Necro misplay if you guys didn't catch it.
Got my tokens today. They’re awesome. Thank you guys for supporting a great cause!
Maybe I'm just being a bit of a pedantic purist, but while I understand why some would call Selvala a "storm" deck, it pretty much relies on setting up infinite mana loop and you can literally do whatever you want once you have infinite mana. It plays a lot like storm up until the loop, but once the loop is in place your opponents can basically just scoop.
To me storm traditionally is using finite resources to sort of rube-goldberg your way through many different spells and activations before landing on your win-condition. There should always be a chance you might fizzle even without disruption.
Next video: Best Mono Green cedh deck Marwyn v Yisan v Selvela - or just give me the answer :)
I don’t think he could’ve forced your guy there… homeboy cracked Ranger in response to a -1/-1 counter being put on it… but you went through such a long loop you guys must’ve forgot… not sure if you address this later in video but addressing it now
Game 3
24:18 Wtf is this music? Is someone's elven girlfriend dying?
Castle Garenbrig can only be used to cast creatures unless I missed something when he was casting sylvan library
17:43 I see that you say the discarded cards should be put into exile, but AFAIK Samurai of the Pale Curtain only puts permanents from the battlefield into exile as a replacement effect. It doesn't affect permanent cards, only permanents.
Can you play Life's Legacy, a sorcery spell on the stack like that? Pretty sure only instants can be played while the stack is resolving, and that doesn't change just because its your turn. Any judges in the house?
Was mox diamond in the deck because of potential abuse with it? Seems pointless to have otherwise.
Nvm, I guess it can be viewed as a form of mana ramp for white ...... feels so limited though >.
2nd game letting Dreadnaught die to its ETB is such a waste couldve used greater good on it while ETB on the stack
Not so wasteful considering the Alms Collector across the table :D
It is sad to see how many rules getting breaked and people making supp optimals decks and plays. This why if pro tour players played EDH on a competive level it would look completly differint
Also he should have payed two mana for the carpet of flowers because of thalia
In game one
couldnt he have gone infinite at 11:30 with bouncing the arbor elf, playing arbor, putting lightning on, untap forrest float, move lightning greaves on other creature, bounce, fplay float.....
Love seeing my boy The YawgFather get some shine. Great games!🤙🏻
I've been waiting patiently to see Yawgmoth on an episode. You guys never disappoint
15:31, spellseeker isnt a permenent skcne its not on the battlefield: does nor get exiled
Yeah, I think they confused "permanent card" with "permanent"
im not fully paying attention and to lazy to retrace, but during your long drawn out turn dillan when you did all the neg counters, wasn't the Naru Meha player silenced so your grey merchant shouldn't of been able to get forced?
Thank you for the long video, this is what I want to see here. xD
What's your guys' opinion on Bolas's Citadel? In terms of it being banned in the future.
I think it is fine since its 6 cmc, can get screwed by lands or something that cant be cast on top etc.
Also, my Krrik deck is on tappedout. Can I get some input if I post it?
Sure
If you guys are still willing to take a look, I'd like to know your thoughts on artifact removal( enchantments I have pharika's Libation and may test mire in Misery).
Trinisphere and other stax can hurt and not sure how I can get around them.
How can you cast Life's Legacy at instant speed?
^I think this was a misplay. G1 should have ended differently
What's a guy gotta do to get a playlist of all the background music, probably my favorite chill time music.
You missed a trigger when you cast the 12/12 to tap selvala for 12 you didnt sac it with greater good! Oof
I live for the finger guns man haha! Great video guys
wait, Lightning greaves cant be used to allow 2 creatures to attack with haste in the same turn though? Am I missing something? 16:28
The real best monocolor might be Neheb or another mono red. You won't know unless you make this a miniseries and feature red.
The white player just plays kingmaker multiple games and does nothing to advance their own win lol.
Can someone explain the fetchlands in mono colored decks? Seems pointless at first glance, I assume I'm missing something...
They're for deck thinning
I feel like Ransack is super underplayed 🤔
I'm probably the 1,000th person to ask this, but do you have deck lists available?
Is it possible to build naru meha on budget? She is probably the only blue commander I would be interested in
This hardly even feels like cEDH anymore tbh, the distinct lack of mana rocks is notable
@10:18 I think he used garenberg to tooth and nail, even tho he did mention that last game he won that he wasn’t using it for no creature then
I'd love to spin my marwyn deck vs cams selvala deck.... (I don't play fast rocks)
i dont know way too much ressources on selvala in game two while blue has rhystic :D what a shocker he won
It didnt end up mattering but when you discarded the cards to necro they should be exiled. Great series
13:52 as a dedicated Yawg player myself, I understand the exquisite pain of The House > Swamp on Top after land drop.
You win one game with selvala and these dudes use every counter and target spell to stop her the next 2 games lol
Did cam cheat in the second game by using castle green to cast tooth and nail after talking about it in game one?
you guys frickin rock love ur energie love tyler love the editing and etc etc been binging all the vids x
may be a stupid question, but why play fetches in a mono-colored deck?
necropotence doesen't allow those discarded cards to hit the graveyard, they are exiled, right?
Watched this again. I think they are super fun and you should revisit this.
Is the background song after plaguecrafter the code lyoko xana attack theme?
Reaaaaly late but for Samurai of the Pale Curtain, cards are only considered "Permanents" on the battlefield and when leaving the battlefield, in all other zones they're "Permanent *Cards*." (Or permanent spells if they're on the stack.) It's a small difference but an important one.
As much as I wished it did for my Penny Dreadful sideboards, Samurai does not exile permanent cards when they are put into the graveyard from anywhere but the battlefield: so Permanent Cards that are discarded or entombed to make it to the graveyard. It's an anti eggs/ creature loop card, not universal graveyard hate for Permanents.
That or MTGO is bugged, but it made sense when it was explained to me.
Leonin is symmetric, you can't land tax through it reeeee
Can someone explain to me why they are playing fetchlands in mono colored decks? Besides landfall I’m clueless 🤷♂️
Thanks for the heart, but what is the answer?
11:14 he couldnt search for lands unless he paided 2 but he never did off the land tax lol
So close! Wanted to see my yawgy boy win. Think I’ve realized I’m just a mono black main. 😂
Also I feel that. When I’m playing my jhoira and I’m holding the table hostage trying to find my pieces I always am like I’m so sorry yall
Can I ask why spellseeker was exiled off the intuition search on game 2? Also, super hard picks with that btw, I don’t see a good choice but I think the counter was the best against the combo pieces, you can always expect him to be able to draw counter magic anyway so might as well get rid of the more valued combo piece.
I THINK i'd have given the Spellseeker to Tyler.
He then has to 1) return flicker to hand (or have something else in hand) 2) waste some mana and possibly time with the Spellseeker 3) he's forced to have other counterspells in hand or find one with the Spellseeker.
