You’ve gotta think about the stack differently when winning with a combo like that cam. You wanted to preserve as many counters on francisco as possible and then respond to anything they do by removing a counter to start the combo over again. It happens a lot when playing kenrith depending on your win lines. You only get stopped by lots of interaction or split second
Those "4 card draw you are never gona get" its exactly the reason he didnt win right there.... if he had save them they needed 4 interaction pieces to stop him rather than 1.
Couldn't you also clear the Dino with 4 pings? Since Francisco had 6 counters and still be able to combo? Combo would've failed if he had found something in the top 4 though
20:10 incredible work from Cam trying to pilot the new brew! One piece of second hand viewing tech: I believe the walking ballista effect can go after creatures so targeting the armasaur would limit draw to only five cards for Nate to draw interaction before you can activate with no repercussions, otherwise this was such a smooth piloting everything else looked slick
I love your guys' attitude towards mistakes and missed triggers and such, both during and after games. I mean, I know after games it's like what can you do about it now, but I know a lot of players tend to get hung up on that kind of stuff, and you guys seem to have a pretty good grasp on it just being a game, even when things get tense. I also think it has to be crazy watching back the games and seeing lines/plays you could have made, especially with all the information you have after about how it turned out, sometimes there are just SO MANY moving parts 😂
Since Cam was making treasures with Malcom as Nate was drawing, couldn't he have used the Bolas Citadel effect to sac his treasures for the 10 damage? He would have had 18 (31 going down to 13) and Collector Oophe was off the board. He could have done it after the Boseiju targeting the Cauldron and had the game right there if I'm not mistaken. This math is due to Nate going to 9 after casting Swords as his Raptor dealt that 4.
He had that option, but his better option would have been to just kill the Armasaur with Francisco Balista, attack with Malcolm to put another counter on Francisco Balista, and then combo.
@dasfabelwesen , I can't remember. Did Francisco have 5 or 6 counters to start? If it had 6, then he could have done it. If only 5, Cam would have needed another counter on Francisco; because all 5 points of damage from Francisco Balista would have been needed to target armasaur, so there wouldn't have been a way to trigger Francisco's explore ability.
This game was a ton of fun, I feel like Cam isn’t used to the Francisco deck and that’s why he feels it’s not good, but he still did a good job piloting it.
Francisco combo seems pretty resilient then you have a few counters on it already. Cam should of ignored the dino draws, only way out for Nate at that point would be having 6 responses Bc Francisco can just shoot again on top of the swords starting the combo again.
That's what I was thinking. It's the same kind of thing in casual EDH with cards like Goblin Bombardment. A common misplay is sacking everything at once to deal damage, when you should do one at a time letting them resolve to force actions from your opponent that you can then respond to. Especially with a Rule of Law out. Cam had the game but didn't see it.
Misplay: Cam's big commander combo turn Runic Armisaur, he resolved his commanders ballista activations before Runic triggers resolved ("you would take 5 damage before you draw any cards"), something impossible to do. Optimal play would have been to shoot Runic Armisaur with the first 5 activations (letting Nate draw 5 and Runic dying), then running for the win and hoping for minimal removal.
yes. also could’ve used bolas’s citadel to remove nate to stop the swords. but there was A LOT of things on board to keep track of, so it makes sense to miss these small things
it is a little funny that the one thing Cam uses as an reason against the Pacho combo, happens to be the one time he gives the naya player access to necropotence xD
i think cam could’ve won if he pointed the first 5 damage at runic armasaur and didn’t get those 5 counters back. he would’ve still had one counter and the combo intact and could’ve done it without letting any draws happen
You still had a counter on the fransico just activate it again and it gets a counter and you still kill everyone. Like agathas soul cauldron is great you just punted, especially with rule of law they cant win because you just respond to the removal by activating again
Cam had the win there if I'm not mistaken. Activate citadel in response to the Boseiju would kill Nate, effectively countering the channel ability before it resolved. Cam could then proceed to franciso Wolf death.
What I'm about to say will probably never matter but Isn't the Malcom trigger still only one trigger even if you damage multiple opponents. The way it was represented is as 2 triggers each making a treasure when I believe it would be one trigger making 2 treasures.
Oh my goodness. I would've made soooooooo many more mistakes than you guys did in this game. So many stax pieces! So much to keep track of! Props to not doing anything game breaking. I feel for Cam. I probably would've drove head first into the Runic Armasaur too. The fact that he even pieced together a potential win under all of those stax pieces is something. Pretty easy to be too scared to go for it and then lose without ever having even pulled the trigger. Great game guys!
Great game, loved that the guy from Australia introduced himself upside down :D Hindsight 20/20 and all that, but I think going to combat first and trying to get Francisco a 6th counter would've been the best place to start, because then you could remove 5 counters to kill the Armasaur, leaving you two counters once you activate the Cauldron to start the chain with if you had to explore/citadel away a land. Either way, if someone has action during combat trying to remove Francisco the Cauldron and can be activated at any time.
Let’s not forget that cam had enough counters on fansisco to kill the runic armasaur and combo off. Don’t forget that walking ballista is damage to any target……
@PlaytoWinMTG you had 6 counters so use 5 to kill the armasaur then use the one left to ping a player and get another counter which allows you to use the soul cauldron? I feel like I'm missing something obvious here lol
I am interested in knowing the names of the song featured in the video around 15:00 time. Sounds very similar to Andrew Hulshult so I was curious, love the video as always!
question wouldn't the malcolm trigger here also resolve and create the same amount of treasure that you dealt damage, thus being able to activate the bolas citadel and deal 10 damage to the patlaza player and remove the boseiju from the stack?
Ranger-Captain of Eos, Angel’s grace cards works until end of turn and Borne will not be shutdown by Eos due to necro trigger on the stack during cleanup step when discarding and with that trigger on the stack it’s possible to win
I don't see the Malcom/Fransico decklist. However, Cam coukd have cast the vampiric tutor off the top with Bolas' Citadel in response to the chain of vapor. If he had his mindbreak that would be good, but he could have pulled a counterspell to kill the swords, let the bolas' Citadel bounce and recast the cauldron and been in it a little?

However, this is beside the point. You could had pointed the first five damage to the RUNIC ARMASAUR and that should had left you with a single counter to make use of to actually potentially win from, and Nate would not had been able to draw any cards.
I'm confused, doesn't francisco say, "Whenever one or more Pirates you control deal damage to a player, Francisco explores." Why does Cam explore twice when malcolm and francisco deal damage. I genuinely don't understand the rules here :) thanks! (e.g., at 7:22)
Because he was dealing damage to 2 players. If it says "whenever one or more creatures deal damage to a player", you can get one trigger per player being dealt damage by one or more creatures
Kinda excited to Ellivere in a game. Was thinking about building the deck. Looks like a lot of fun playing stax peices and having your commander pay off for playing them.
When cam was trying the walking ballista cauldron combo he could have just killed over top of any responses right because Francisco had 6 counters at the start of the combo so instead of responding to the armorsaur triggering let each one resolve and when when they respond to the explore trigger can could ping them again right?
I do feel like the only deck that may benefit from the soul cauldron is heliod ballista, cause if you can turn heliod into the ballista or any stax creature, it gives you a second chance at a win
Cam couldve activated Bolas's Citadel while Nate's interaction was on the stack, sacrificing the tapped treasures he was generating. This wouldve killed Nate, wouldn't it?
Couldn't he have also just in response to swords on the stack just pulled another counter off Francisco to utilize the walking ballista ability to ping him again. I am pretty sure he had an infinite loop there. I may be wrong though.

How many explore trigger +1/+1 counters can you forget? Doesn't explore basically say that, if it's not a land... no matter if you bin it or top it, you get a +1/+1 counter...on every trigger
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Not necessarily, but he chose to draw 10 cards, which given how CEDH decks are constructed was very likely to put either a way to win the game, or a way to stop someone else from winning the game in his hand, and like he pointed out himself, there was a LOT of power on the board at that time. So it's less about necro being super scary (but it is, don't get it twisted) and more about in CEDH unless you have a reason not to, it's almost always a good idea to remove a player from the game, and Dylan drawing 10 basically announced to the table "hey, I might have a way back into this game" so the two players who had the means to make sure that he didn't use them. I think this is one of the biggest differences in mindset between normal commander and CEDH games, in CEDH you have to assume that any player with 3+ cards can win the game with them, and that any cards in excess of that could be some form of interaction. (once again, not always, but it's kind of the mindset you need to be in, every SINGLE card in someone's hand can represent a way to win the game, a way to protect that win, or a way to stop YOUR win.) So yes. In a CEDH game, if you CAN kill the guy who just draw 10 cards. You usually do.
Im very new when it comes to cedh things. I was wondering if you guys actually own all the cards across all your cedh decks or do you own 1 copy of the expensive stables and switch it around from deck to deck depending on what you are playing or do you use proxies?
On the turn Cam tried to win, could he not have gone to combat, gotten two more +1/+1 counters on Francisco so he has 7 counters, then remove 5 to kill the Runic Armasaur, THEN machine gun everyone down?
Yeah but they talk about spite plays and not to do them. And that would have been a spite play since there’s no reason to hinder 1 opponent on his way out.
I hate to always be that person, but I think Cam missed the line where he could’ve won the game, if he sacced a load of tapped treasures to bolas’ citadel in response to the swords it would’ve won him the game
Since cam had 6 counters on Francisco, couldn’t he just use 5 of them to kill the Armasaur and then proceed to kill the table? Literally drew Nate into interaction lmao

Do you guys have a “set up” explaining what you have to play virtually the way you guys do?
Ackchually... Ellivere gives Virtuous role to another traget creature😅
Why wouldn't the first five triggers hit the dinosaur so he had to draw interaction in the first five cards?
No crazy name for Pantlaza? No wacky "BEGIN!"? What is this...
What do we think about Pantlaza vs Rocco? most of the lists I see look pretty similar.... is this to play around Oppo Agent and such?
Do you guys do any type of deck tech ? Like if somebody sent you guys their list would you critique/comment on it ?
We offer written deck reviews on one of our tiers on patreon!
man cam threw this game in like 5 different ways. Rare
Why didnt you spend few counters on francisco to kill the runic armasaur before going to kill table?
Im very new when it comes to cedh things. I was wondering if you guys actually own all the cards across all your cedh decks or do you own 1 copy of the expensive stables and switch it around from deck to deck depending on what you are playing or do you use proxies?
We own some cards and proxy others! Switching things back and fourth takes too much time
Cam could kill the dinosaur instead of going for the face.
On the turn Cam tried to win, could he not have gone to combat, gotten two more +1/+1 counters on Francisco so he has 7 counters, then remove 5 to kill the Runic Armasaur, THEN machine gun everyone down?
Mans missed infinite armasaur draws
Finally a game!
Francisco can’t block so cam shouldn’t be able to chump with both his commanders against the attacks after the turn of the failed Agatha combo
Couldn’t have Dylan Deadly Rollicked on the way out? 14:50
Yeah but they talk about spite plays and not to do them. And that would have been a spite play since there’s no reason to hinder 1 opponent on his way out.
@@The_Metalcrafter Fair enough. Thanks for the reply I was just curious if they missed that or not
Why didn't Cam just ping the Runic Armasaur to death?
Fuck yeah, more Aussie representation on the channel pls
Why didn't cam just ping down the armasaur? Go for the win after that?
I hate to always be that person, but I think Cam missed the line where he could’ve won the game, if he sacced a load of tapped treasures to bolas’ citadel in response to the swords it would’ve won him the game
Since cam had 6 counters on Francisco, couldn’t he just use 5 of them to kill the Armasaur and then proceed to kill the table? Literally drew Nate into interaction lmao
why would cam not just pay 4 to put a counter in response with ballista's other ability?
Nice game. Lots of stuff going on in this one. ❤❤❤
Why did Cam not use fransico who had 6 counters, why not use 5 to kill Runic then kill the table?
P2W,
I won my 2nd RCQ today. Please play Yisan as congrats.
Sincerely,
Me 😘
Why would ellievere sac his ranger captain instead of asking pantlaza to sac his.
