I love the character development of Chuuzus in the beginning: “Oh i like when you build love gradually” to Chuuzus in the ending: “If you love each other PLEASE open your mouth and say it ‘cuz time is GOING!!!”
Mr. Bennett (Lizzie's father) tends to get more sympathetic treatment in adaptations because Mrs. Bennett's flaws are easier to see. However, in the book he's largely to blame for all the hardships of his daughters. He knows his house & lands can't be passed on to his daughters but he fails to save up good dowries for them, which is why they need to marry well (aka "rich") so desperately. He also doesn't fulfill a lot of the social obligations of that day & age for his daughters- for instance, they were very strict in that society about who could talk to each other. A young woman couldn't talk to a man until another man formally "introduced" them, but Mr. Bennett doesn't like being bothered to do those things for his daughters, even though that's the primary way women met potential husbands. In the latter part of the book, it becomes very clear that even though Lizzie is her father's favorite, that hasn't shielded her from the consequences of his financial and social neglect of his family.
“That man just proposes to every girl. Is he okay??” Lmao when he wanted that old woman to get a heart attack and die 💀 had me at work crying laughing as usual. Never fails 😂
Jane Austen is an English writer who wrote Pride and prejudice in 18 13 - she lived the life and understood the culture , the language the nuances of the times! Bridgeton was written in 2006 by a New Yorker who has clearly piggybacked the great novels of jane Austen era - they have to be compared because the New Yorker has totally been influenced by these great novels.
This is one of my comfort movies! Perfect for a rainy day and my hopeless romantic heart. The bridgerton blueprint!!!! this was a great reaction I love watching you chu!
OMG this is also one of my comfort movies, especially on a rainy day. Happy to finally find my tribeeeee 😩 girl you wanna start a discord for us black girlies that love such movies??
The sister Mary would have married Mr. Collins in a heartbeat. Go back and watch the scene again where Elizabeth rejected Mr. Collins' marriage proposal. The look on Mary's face says it all...
Elizabeth and Darcy are the enemies to lovers blueprint tbh. When their hands touched I legit swooned and the first proposal in the rain was emotional and hot at the same time.
I love when the sisters laugh when the cousin tries to marry the eldest sister. Also they were alone for that little bit of time together Mr.Darcy and Ms.Elizabeth Bennet while they were dancing because they only had eyes for one another. Chemistry!!
I've seen the BBC drama version and honestly I love both for their own reasons. But ultimately its because they both have that subtle gradual implied kinda love. The little gestures and the deeper meanings. And it's just sweet they both capture it so differently but so well.
This is my favorite rendition of Pride and Prejudice! That's why I loved *Season 2 of Bridgerton* sm because their chemistry was so similar. 😌 When he was walking towards her during foggy sunrise 😍 and the kisses at the end Mrs Darcy...Mrs Darcy....swoon!!! 😭 Watch "Atonement" with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, it's so good.
i am absolutely obsessed with this movie and i have loved it since i was little! its so visually stunning, the story is intelligent and timeless, elizabeth is one of my favorite woman in literature, the cinematography and soundtrack is beautiful, it’s one of the best enemies to lovers story, and i love elizabeth and darcy and their connection and it’s growth, plus all the acting was amazing. it draws you in so much and feels so real. it’s a masterpiece and definitely a comfort movie to me. i’m not very close with my mom but this was the one movie we loved and always would watch together and bond over since i was little so it has such a big place in my heart. also i love love keira knightley, she’s an amazing actress.
Great reaction as always! I've been binging reactions to this movie and it's interesting how many people don't realize that marriage was survival back then - it was transactional, economic. Women could not stay with their parents forever and could not work or live on their own. Romance was a luxury. That's why this story is so great. With all the obstacles between, Elizabeth & Darcy still found romantic love together. Its beautiful
@Chuuzus I know I'm late to the party, but I haven't seen this in the comments yet (can't read through ALL of them). The Hand Scene is important because back then (1780's-1810's or so, I forgot what year the story occurs), it was considered inappropriate/rumor-worthy for men and women (excluding parents and siblings obviously) to touch each other with bare hands. Most women wore gloves when making calls (visiting homes) in order to "maintain decorum". But Lizzie went to the Bingleys' in a hurry so she could be with Jane so she likely forgot hers. So when Mr. Darcy helps her into the carriage, he's holding her ungloved hand with his. This contact is uncommon and it aided his feelings for her. Also, Mr. Darcy is not a social person. He's rigid and slow to open himself to people. The fact he initiated this contact shows a desire to be closer to Lizzie & he probably acted on instinct which surprised him along with the felling he had after doing it (hand-flex). Another thing, IIRC, there's a footman right there; they're usually the ones to assist people in and out of transportation. Instead Mr. Darcy was like "Nah take a 15, I got this."
Your edits are amazing. When you talked about the 'bewitched me' line, I said out loud: 'One of us! One of us!' 😂 Thanks for watching this. It was a delight to watch your reaction.
This is my favourite movie of all time, the way it instantly cheers me up and makes me happy, CHEFS KISS!!! 🥰 so happy you loved it, your reaction was everything!

aaah!!! this was everything ! Pride & Prejudice is one of my top 3 movies ever. You called it from the opening scene, it's absolutely my comfort movie. And the shots / cinematography are stunning, nice to see you appreciate them. I love how hyped up you were at all the small details. Elizabeth Bennett is such an iconic character. This is such a classic and I loved your reaction so much.
YUP. Pride and prejudice was the blueprint for Bridgerton season 2. That's mother for real. It is how I knew season 2 was gonna be better. There was pride and prejudice energy in the trailer. Anyway, this movie is so good! I have watched and rewatched it several times. You will understand the dialog better once you've watched it enough times like I did. So many gems in this movie. Masterfully done. The streets need another Joe Wright and Kiera period piece. It's been too long.
with fall coming in swing, you should react to "when harry met sally"!! it's regarded as one of the best rom-coms of all time and it's my favorite comfort movie! also, I screamed when you recognized Mr. darcy from succession LMAO
Chuu! I've seen this movie a ton of times, but watching you watch it still has me giggling! The Keira Knightley periods are ELITE, please react to them too (Atonement, The Duchess, Anna Karenina, etc.!)
I love this gem you posted. I am loving your selections in movies to do reaction vids to. And yes, comfort films are always good. If you need a few more, in case you haven't already seen them: Moonstruck, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Thomas Crown Affair (1999), Notting Hill, Bridget Jones Diary (a sorta kinda Pride And Prejudice remake), Working Girl, Love Actually... I love your reactions! I've seen this movie a few times but watching your reaction was like watching it for the first time again. If you want something similar, I'd recommend Mr. Malcom's List. It came out this year and leans more into the comedy side of romantic comedies.
I’m so excited to watch this, one of my favourite movies and I know you will love it! Thank you for reacting to it. Some tea if you’re interested - Jane (Rosamund Pike, the queen from Gone Girl) and Charles Bingley actually went out with each other before the film was made so she had to accept a proposal from her ex! She was also engaged to the director at the time…truly #thatgirl
It took me a few re-reads of the book & re-watching a of the movie to finally understand why he broke up Jane & Bingley. Then I remembered what Mrs Bennet was saying at the ball that they expect an advantageous marriage. Advantageous means financially & successfully secure. Darcy thought the family was using Jane to get close to Bingleys money. It’s why he objected to the family & not Jane or Lizzie. But he did accuse Jane of leading Bingley on, & realized how wrong he was when Lizzie said that Jane is naturally shy. He realized he broke up a potential marriage based on prejudice. Middle class woman marries an upper class man while her immature family squanders his fortune? He wasn’t going to let that happen. And I can understand why he would think her family immature. When he says “the lack of propriety”, it means that Lizzies family had no proper place or could conform to the standards in high society because they were loud, rude & obnoxious. Kitty & Lydia got drunk at the ball & were loud flirts & Mary did her unwanted performance and never socialized while there mother walked around like she owned the place. He didn’t want Bingley marrying Jane because he thought the Bennett’s were obnoxious gold diggers using there daughter to stain upper class society. But notice how he didn’t lump Jane & Lizzie with them. Which means he’s not a full prejudice jerk. And he sees the Bennett’s in a different light after this because he takes the time to explain to Lizzie that he was sorry & helps her understand that she was falling for a F boy in Mr Whickham. And when Whickham manipulates immature Lydia, Darcy saves the Bennett’s from humiliation by paying off Whickhams gambling debts & got him commission in Newcastle. It was Darcy’s way of repaying the Bennett’s for breaking up Jane & Bingley & his apology to Jane was bringing Bingley to her to propose after re-kindling Bingleys love for Jane. Then Mr Collins opens his big mouth & sends a letter to Lady Catherine, congratulating her on Darcy’s engagement to Lizzie & we all know what happens next. Considering Darcy met with Lizzie in the gardens & knew about what his aunt did, it’s most likely he stood up to Catherine; professing love for Lizzie. Darcy has one hell of a character development.
Keira Knightley in a period piece always delivers! Also Mr Darcy is Tom in Succession, not Cousin Gregg... "Remember you can't make a tomlette without breaking a few Gregg's!!!"
If you're interested, there are so many other adaptions of Pride and Prejudice, many of them are very good. The BBC mini series is soooo good and has more of the book in it. The modernized youtube series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is also a lot of fun.
omg yess been waiting on this since the Bridgerton reactions! You should check out the Marie Antoinette movie 2006 with Kristen Dunst, a really fun period piece movie also directed by a woman!
Romcoms don’t tend to be my preference in movie genre, but there are some that I do like (Pride and Prejudice is one, though I actually prefer the longer BBC miniseries over this one just a bit) A couple others that I enjoy include You’ve Got Mail, and Princess Bride.
Chuuzus I just found your channel and I love itttt you have such a great sense of humor and I also love how much you root for the female characters hahahaha. I am looking forward to seeing more drama movies and comfort, girlie movies from you bc I am honestly not a horror fan so I can’t really get into those reactions as much.
Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility with Kate Winslet. 😂 You are so funny. You know we agreed on so many things and your reaction had me laughing so much. Thank you for this great review.
This movie gets me everytime and how have I never seen the last scene where they’re at Pemberley! Miss Chu showing me bits of my favourite movie I’ve never seen 😭😍
btw chuu, I am not sure if this is confirmed or not but during the regency time (the time that pride and prejudice were set in). it is taboo for men to touch other women's hand without gloves because that gesture is only for married couples, and the camera panning over mr. darcy's hand is to show that he still feels the lingering sensation of elizabeth's warmth. that is why during the first scene you see darcy flexing his hand after toouching elizebth's hand. anyways i love you chuu, both you and zzavid
Did you want rom-com suggestions or more like this? I'll just give you suggestions for both.😉 For Rom-Com, "While You Were Sleeping", "Ever After", "The Ugly Truth", and "Miss Congenieality". For more like this movie, Jane Austen (who wrote Pride and Prejudice) also wrote "Sense and Sensibility", "Emma", "Northanger Abbey", and "Mansfield Park". I would also throw in "Jane Eyre". It a different author and it's a gothic romance, but I think it has some of the same elements and is a quality story.
You made me laugh!!! You're so funny!!! This is my 2nd fav movie of all times. My first is Ever after: a cinderella story. You should do a reaction to that one. It's so good!
Jane Austen is an English author writing about her culture and era in 1813 -her words and how she expresses that time and place is authentic and meaningful. For me Bridgeton doesn’t have the depth . It was written in 2006 by an American woman who clearly has been influenced by the great novels and I think Downtown Abbey. But Jane Austen , Charlotte and Emily Brontë, Louisa May Alcock etc are the Queens of this generation and outshine any of the recent attempts to rewrite or even reinvent. However It’s always good to create something new but not replace.
You should react to Emma 2020 or Portrait of a lady on fire! They're both visually stunning period pieces. Emma is based off a book by the same author as pride and prejudice, and portrait is a french lesbian film :)
"Say yes so she'll have a heart attack and DIE" ...NO YOU DIDN'T BAHAHAHHAHAHA
I love the character development of Chuuzus in the beginning: “Oh i like when you build love gradually” to Chuuzus in the ending: “If you love each other PLEASE open your mouth and say it ‘cuz time is GOING!!!”
lmaoooo the tension was getting too much 😭
Mr. Bennett (Lizzie's father) tends to get more sympathetic treatment in adaptations because Mrs. Bennett's flaws are easier to see. Exactly. I hate Mr. Bennet!

I PRAYED FOR THIS
😭😭🖤
“Bewitched me body and soul” easily takes the cake than “Bane of my existence” for me personally and nobody can’t make me think otherwise.
Well, the breathless and "can't help it - it needs to be said" way he says "I love you... most ardently", at the water tower does it for me.
Pride and Prejudice in 1000% superior to Bridgerton.
What's the point in comparing them' Different stories, different couples...
Totally agree bridgeton only exist because of Jane Austen
This is one of my comfort movies! Perfect for a rainy day and my hopeless romantic heart. The bridgerton blueprint!!!!
this was a great reaction I love watching you chu!

Saw another reaction where the people were disappointed because they were told it was like Bridgerton and it wasn't what they were expecting.

Elizabeth Bennet is always going to be THAT girl, no one is doing it like her 👑
Nah Amanda Price is much better than Elisabeth Bennet. You need to watch Lost in Austen. Amanada's and Darcy's story is a much better.
pride and prejudice will always be one of the best love stories imo Jane Austen's humor is just so timelessly perfect
Elizabeth and Darcy are the enemies to lovers blueprint tbh. When their hands touched I legit swooned and the first proposal in the rain was emotional and hot at the same time.

I was named after this story! One of the most beautiful love stories ever told
I *love* his "I love.. I love... I love you" at the end.
The chemistry in this movie is crazy. Not just with Elizabeth and Darcy.... but the who cast.😮
This movie had me in a CHOKEHOLD when I first saw it and you have to do Love, Rosie (2014). 💜💜
Watch "Atonement" with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, it's so good.
Atonement just may destroy him... Of course, maybe I'm just projecting because that movie hurted me 💔😭
the similarities between bridgerton season 2 and pride and prejudice is a lot but in a good way. i enjoyed it
It's that despise each other turn lovers trope (update, 28:42 yep!). Both done beautifully 😍 (update, 30:06 🎯)
Atonement is so good, it's so worth the emotions 🥺
Yes! I feel like they also paid homage with the near finger touch sequence in Bridgerton.
"Mr Collins go and sit down please!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lydia has run off with Mr Wickham. 'That bastard' Lol. How concisely phrased.

btw chuu, I am not sure if this is confirmed or not but during the regency time (the time that pride and prejudice were set in). it is taboo for men to touch other women's hand without gloves because that gesture is only for married couples, and the camera panning over mr. darcy's hand is to show that he still feels the lingering sensation of elizabeth's warmth. that is why during the first scene you see darcy flexing his hand after toouching elizebth's hand. anyways i love you chuu, both you and zzavid
It a different author and it's a gothic romance, but I think it has some of the same elements and is a quality story.
you NEED to watch Emma (2020) its based off a book from the same author and it has mia goth & anya taylor joy and theyre both excellent in it
You made me laugh!!! You're so funny!!! This is my 2nd fav movie of all times. My first is Ever after: a cinderella story. You should do a reaction to that one. It's so good!
hi chuuzus
I bought this film because of your splendid review! how could I not buy it when it only cost me 50p!! 😅 and worth every penny 😂👌🏿
YYYYAAASSSS CHUUZUS THIS MOVIE IS ICONIC AND SUCH A COMFORT FILM ❤️ LOVE IS REAL BECAUSE OF THEM
You definitely have to watch Atonement next!! That movie ruined me but it’s soooo good
I'm always screaming and giggiling when their hands touch lol
Chuuzus's reaction to films & tv series is like a warm pumpkin 🎃 spice latte ☕ of the internet 🌐
omg i love this, this is my comfort movie!!! you should watch Mr. Malcom's List, it just came out, same vibe as this and even sexier cast
This reaction was soooo good and if you want a good comfort movie I highly recommend Before sunrise
I highly recommend Pride & Prejudice 1995. It’s a BBC series and it’s also good
The enemies to lovers trope is good when the characters learn and grow. Love the reaction! ✨💕 Thanks!
OMG STOP MY FAV REACTING TO MY FAV IM SO HAPPY 💖
You better watch Jane Eyre 2011 is soo good and have the same vibe like Pride and prejudice you will love it a lot
You have the best reaction channel ever
Mr Darcy is everything
obsessed with the tomgreg acknowledgement
You should react to Emma 2020 or Portrait of a lady on fire! They're both visually stunning period pieces. Emma is based off a book by the same author as pride and prejudice, and portrait is a french lesbian film :)
It was a pleasure watching you watching this.
