The house is supposed to be Earth, Jennifer is Mother Nature and the husband is God. The man that shows up is Adam, he coughs up his rib and then his wife shows up, Eve. The sons are like Cain and Abel, one kills the other. And the random people are just like people abusing the Earth. this probably wasn’t the best explanation so i’d recommend googling it for a better one lol
For sure! And when Mother gives birth and the Father shows off the baby, it's sort of like Jesus. And when the people in the house eat the baby, they are literally eating Jesus Christ's body, which is what people do at Church, but they literally ate him in here. Now, who is Kristen Wiig? What does she represent? EDIT: Just read how someone said Kristen Wiig is the publisher, so she represent's religion, which tracks with how she kills people...
I think the new poem that the husband wrote is suppose to represent the New Testament part of the Bible (which is everything leading up to the birth of Jesus and after that). The baby would be Jesus who god/husband gives to humanity to kill.
@@ericsanty Right after the baby is killed, Chuu is saying for Mother to kill the people and yells "Jesus Christ!"... made me giggle because I thought "yes, that was the baby".
You saying you didn't understand the movie but then also ironically yelling out "JESUS CHRIST" at the end with the death of the baby that represents him literally took me ooouuuutttttt
It actually gave me nightmares. I had so many where random people would come into my house and act like **I** was doing something wrong. So bizarre and horrifying in its own way.
Mother - Mother Earth Husband - God The first man who shows up - Adam His wife - Eve Their kids - Cain & Abel The book he’s writing - The Bible Their baby - Jesus Kristen Wiig/publisher - religion The house - Earth All the people who come just trash it and don’t care how much it hurts mother, while husband is always forgiving and allowing more and more to come.
I love this movie. I kind of think that mother torching the place is a representation of how mother nature fights back. Sometimes mother nature destroys everything but then we start anew.
I love how many interpretations of this movie are out there! Biblical, nature vs humans, old world vs new world, etc. For me, I love the interpretation of Mother Nature vs Abrahamic God and His creation. She keeps nature/Eden in balance, God creates humans, Abrahamic faiths like Christianity spread, holy child dies, and nature crumbles into modern day. So awesome
What you said about women and men and how we like our spaces is SO spot on. I do feel like men are more open to having their friends over all the time and keeping the house filled. And the girlies need a space to ourselves, keep it nice and cozy. And when I have guest over, HELL NO you can’t stay as long as you like 😂
I can't tell you how many times I was screaming at the television watching this movie. I was getting so frustrated with how they were treating her. She is truly so sweet in this movie. And they s*** all over her.
This movie gave me a full blown panic attack …. I remember the second time I watched it with friends I literally forgot I couldn’t handle it. Never again lmao
This is such a great reaction! I teach religious studies at the university level and the fact that Chuuzus is, essentially, responding the way many of the authors of the Hebrew Scriptures wanted their readers to react (annoyed at the behaviour of God’s creations, God’s almost irritating giving endless chances, etc) is priceless.
This is literally my favorite movie of all time. I will never foget the emotions i experienced watching it in the theather, I was crying HYSTERICALLY crawling out of it afterwards, but it was soooo good! The realisation what this movie was actually about striked me somewhere in the middle, and i had to explain the meaning to a lot of my friends who watched it and were furious about "meaninglessly lost 2 hours of their life", just because they couldn't understand the deeper meaning.
Aronofsky confirmed in a Reddit AMA that it's all supposed to be an allegory for the Bible and humans as a whole, and in the credits, he made Javier's character named "Him" and everyone else's name is in lowercase to hammer home the idea that his character represents God. If you Google "mother! posters, there's a poster with JLaw in a lush, primordial forest, further reinforcing that she is Mother Nature. And the thesis of the movie in 1 sentence is basically: If God made humans, and mother nature, and stands by idly to be worshipped while humans suffer and torment mother nature and each other, then that's one shitty God.
I thought Christian creationism was the main plot. It’s not. Aronofsky wanted to tell a story about the environment - so, he uses just a few pieces of creationism and gives a personification to earth and calls her “mother” (mother earth) and importantly, he does not include the Bible’s “Satan”, there is no single evil one in this film, instead he allows evil to be evident in most of humanity - It makes sense because Humans are the greatest threat to the earth, (mother!) notice every human we meet takes advantage of her, hurts her and destroys the home she works so hard to maintain. Earth (Jennifer) suffers perpetually, helpless to stop any of the destruction that humans cause, and God (Javier) just keeps on allowing and watching them do it, he’s obsessed with creating, he loves the humans and won’t give up on them no matter how much damage they cause
The first time I watched it I was like:" WTF just happened?" Then I researched and watched it again and it blew my mind. Amazing movie and great reaction ❤
i think the ending wasnt just biblical which seemed to be the main thing but the continuos cycle of women mothers being used and stepped over its alot chu im still confused but in a good way because i love movies that make me think and come up with multiple explanations when their isnt just one answer its multiple things
This movie had me STRESSED!! I was so frustrated the whole time! I dont like seeing my queen Jennifer suffer like this 😫 nobody was listening to my girl
Javier is the representation of God, Jennifer is Mother Earth, the man and the woman are Adam and Eve, their sons are Caine and Abel, and his book is the bible. The movie represents how everyone takes religion and uses it as they see fit and how it changes to each person. Also how their actions affect the earth. God sees these people and their actions but still sees the best in them where Jennifer is seeing the evil that they do and it’s represented in how they treat the house. this is always just one interpretation, the movie leaves this up to the watcher to interpret, which is even better. You can check the cast names and no one has names just husband, wife, man, woman, follower, son, etc…
I watched this movie for the first and last time with friends that were laughing and making jokes the whole time but after those last scenes I literally said goodnight and cried alone in my room. I was so upset 😭
I know this follows the stories in the bible but damn I wanted mother to pop off on them from the jump especially after the "cain and Abel" part cause mother was just suffering😭😭😭
Jennifer Lawrence is amazing. This movie is one of my FAVES. It’s so good on a rewatch once you understand the metaphors of everything. The climate change messaging is super cool
The people were all just so aggravating especially those people that were sitting on the sink😤😮💨I don’t know what I would do if my house got that packed
I saw this in theater, and having a giant soda I got up to pee at a slow part with just Him and mother talking, thinking I wouldn't miss much. I came back confused to them eating her baby. That really did escalate quickly!
I'm so happy I never watched this movie. I felt pure anger brewing within me from the audacity the "guests" had to act like they could just roll into someone else's house and act the way they were acting. It could never be me...certainly not I. HELLLLL NO! *deep breathes*
I remember watching the first 20 mins of this movie and fell asleep then I woke up when everyone was invading her house and destroying her home. I was so confused and disoriented. The movie finished and I was left so confused and delirious. 😅
I saw this in theatres and loved it, I have anxiety and I took it as an introvert's experience when they have to host an impromptu party. I was laughing so hard by the end, feeling so easily relatable to the sense of dread and catastrophic thinking that anxiety puts you through but no one else is worried at all or seeing it how you are experiencing it, I had a blast
It’s a good day when you upload! I love your horror movie reactions the most, but I really do hope you finish Queen Charlotte on the channel because your reactions to it are so fun ❤️
just from the opening its very god created the stars (that diamond) and the earth, ms jenny wakes up like mother earth and then he says he was asleep and after seven days of work god took a power nap😙😂
The book by Khalid Hussain- The kite runner is very emotional. And the way you always say F them kids 👀😩😅 You will definitely be saying it when you read this book. It's not so long and they also made a movie

Nothing wrong with your explanation. It was direct and to the point. 😃
I think you explained that beautifully

very!
💯
imagine reading the source material

Mother - Mother Earth
Husband - God
The first man who shows up - Adam
His wife - Eve
Their kids - Cain & Abel
The book he’s writing - The Bible
Their baby - Jesus
Kristen Wiig/publisher - religion
The house - Earth
All the people who come just trash it and don’t care how much it hurts mother, while husband is always forgiving and allowing more and more to come.
It was very obvious to me
my mind didn't even go to this 😭
I saw this movie when it first came out and I still didnt get it until this explanation 🤦🏽♀️😂
I never thought of it in a biblical sense, but that's just because I wasn't brought up that way
@@livewill4479 it’s not obvious if you don’t go in expecting a religious metaphor.
Chu screaming JESUS! when the ppl started eating the baby 😭 the ironyyy
"I like slow burning movies sometimes."
Honey...you've got a big storm coming
💀
The fact he called god a “Demon” while watching this was amazing.
it reminded me of the students in the exam who curse the one watching over them because he is not letting them cheat XD

i know how many times my mum used to complain about my dad not knowing when to set boundaries for visitors in our house 😭
If TRY NOT TO GET FRUSTRATED was a movie, it would be this one.
I can't tell you how many times I was screaming at the television watching this movie. I was getting so frustrated with how they were treating her. She is truly so sweet in this movie. And they s*** all over her.
Chuu confusing the husband (who represents God) for a demon is very symbolic, lmao.
Happy to be the 200th like and say I agree.
I just knew this film was gonna make u LOSE IT LMFAOOO 😂😭
immediately i finished editing, i closed my laptop 😭
It's basically a yassified retelling of the Bible and Mother Earth thanks to Jenifer Lawrence's TALENT and Darren's GENIUS. Truly horrible.
This movie gave me a full blown panic attack …. I remember the second time I watched it with friends I literally forgot I couldn’t handle it. Never again lmao
Sometimes that also happens to me twice. 😵

Michelle Pfeiffer did such an amazing job both her and Ed Harrison. I wanted to slap them so badly! They were just so disrespectful!

the look of rage that came over chu when she said "we or you?" cracked me up 😂😂😂
The video just started so I'm going to enjoy watching the innocence Chu still has as it will soon be gone 😂😂😂😭

The first time I watched this movie, I was STRESSED! I had never felt so many different emotions from one movie before watching Mother.

i think mother is very DRAMA something that should be studied in film class because it represents a romanticism and a big metaphorical
