- I regasket and change a lot of stuff on this 330 engine. I even change the transmission from automatic to manual. I then proceed to install the new regasketed engine back into the car.

Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed how we overlayed the talking over the time-lapse... mmm podcast in the future?
hey bro i have an urgent question. im looking for a engine for a 2001 bmw 325xi awd manual. my question is can i use a 325i engine or does it have to be exact 325xi because in my searches descriptions say BMW 325i 02 (2.5L), Xi (AWD). BMW 325i 02 (2.5L), exc. Xi; M54 the except part is what im worried about im working on an estimate n need help fast. thanks in advance
Love all your videos makes me feel comfortable working on my e46.. thanks so much... keep up the good work wish I was in cali lol
The dialogue was kinda funny... you should have sat down and wrote up some banter to overlay with the rest of the video. See the comment I left for your video about "... Quitting?" You are on the right track... I can tell you are a super smart guy -- even got the legal angle going on. LOL. Your shop helper has some personality ... I see lots of entertainment potential!
You lucky bro to have a car girl, I am 1 diy away from divorce 🤣
@@BimmerDope lol
Very true for dropping some cash on a solid Bmw. It might be ‘old’ but still drives like a dream. No loans, no car payment bs, no depreciation in value and best of all no financial ties.
This is just satisfying for us petrolheads
“You can go spend $10k on a Corolla and just hate your life.” 😂😂😂
Hahaha I think I went to far with that one ☝️
ShopLifeTV It was hilarious though lmaoo. Cool video bro.
i 100% agree on that comment! theres nothing like driving a well maintained bmw. I drove honda for most of life. i lol @ your comment cause i really did hate life!! it did great though, i went years without putting a dime into maintenance, $10 gas took me along way. i bought a fully loaded 6speed manual e90 for cheeeeap to flip because i didnt want to deal with additional cost of car maintenance but after driving it for a week it changed my life and decided to make an exception because it bought joy to my life and the act of driving is so fun now.
Leo Sam More power to you bro, enjoy your E90. I’m thinking about picking up a clean E39 very soon.
Where are uou buying most of your parts?
I just changed the guibo and center bearing on my e34! Great videos!
I've had my E46 since new and I have to say, it's the most reliable car I've ever had! Any car is unreliable if you don't maintain it.
That’s awesome!
Niamh Healy I know of a few Toyota’s that don’t get maintained but are still running at 200k
Scotty? Is that you?!!! 😂😂😂
Niamh Healy 😂😂😂😂
Im not into fixing BMWs but I can pay attention. I've saved 1000's fixing my 2006 330xi. Thanks to you channel. Your diagnosis and answers are better than a majority of guy on UA-cam. You two are a good team. Thanks for the advice and money savings.
Thank you so much!
This deserves a million views . Show us the car after u did all this
Thank you so much and It is on my vlog channel
Killing it bro such an amazing channel for years man youre a huge asset to the entire E46 community
Great job guys, been watching your videos for close to 4yrs, you have helped me out a ton but there are still some issues i face. Would like to come out there visit sometime, you guys have a Good day!
Huge great job guys ! Wow like in bmw factory mounted the body on the whole engine-transmision-axle. My dream is to give my E46 330ci to this guy and repair as much as i can spend it on that :)
Big respect for all you have done and will do
I have a 1988 BMW 750iL and I LOVE it. Completely paid for, has a host of issues. I wouldn't trade it for the world. This car was 17 years old and 217k on odometer when I bought it in late 2005, drove it all the way from Jacksonville FL to Dallas Texas without stranding me. Biggest gamble of my life and loved every mile of the trip. Best $2,600 I have ever spent. V12 power all the way and has 223k miles now.
I wanted a BMW for years and finally got one last year. My hubby is a mechanic. But he new nothing about the BMW i have an 02 325i sedan your videos have been so helpful . I love my car. Thank you !!
Thank you Marlene! Happy to help
I am LS400 owner and love my car slowly making it my own not your grandma’s Lexus! Watching your videos inspired me to go out and buy my first BMW e46 and take on restoring it like I am doing with my LS400. Love the BMW so much fun to drive. Just took in the cooling system by watching your videos. Young man you are on a good path and have a great partner. Thanks for all the videos you put out. Much respect.
E46 FOR LIFE!!
You truly are the are the WIZARD of BMW on UA-cam Bro.... respect
bro you inspire me, keep doing you. I have an 01 325ci been looking to get it to specs again
You two are a great team.
This was brilliant. I just need the space and I think I can pull this off.
Your videos always give me hope 😌
Can confirm. Bought my pre facelift 323i. Replaced the entire cooling system, guibo, fluids, oil pan gasket, ect. Drives like a new car. Paid 1300 for it. Put about 1k in repairs. Still a few more things to do.
Surprised that you didn't slap in a Dr. Vanos kit to handle that issue ahead of time. From what I understand their rebuilt units will last more or less the life of the car now. I will most likely be installing one in my ZHP later this week. Love the video, kinda using it as a check to see what other stuff I haven't done... that I need to do lol Keep up the great content!
Been a subscriber for a while now and before i even bought my e46 i would watch all your videos/DIY's. Bought an e46 as my 1st car more than 6months ago and its been reliable i , just keep up with maintenance and you're set.I love my car, and the power is amazing!!! #BMW4LIFE
Thank you so much ! Glad it is treating you well
Wow! Great video! True dedication to good work!
thank you!
"Hey, or car woman" lol
lol
That was awesome. I am going to come down for a quote. My M3 spun a rod bearing and I am not too sure how bad the damage is.
Great job guys. Did you also change the driveshaft seal on the gearbox?
Good stuff, just what I was looking my for
you are amazing dude. it's the commitment for me.
You're a genius! I would love to see you work on a e46 330D. I own one, but i think about to buy me a 330i.
Brother Jason.. U r simply a genius.. Always enjoy watching your magic from south Africa.
How does he know so much he’s videos always has me hooked 🤪
I like yours videos. You work very clean. Make more videos from you m3
Hi buddy, next time you get a chance please show us where the engine coolant drain plug is and Keep bangin'!!
Love your channel, I bought my first e46ci in aus they are expensive but I got a good deal on a 320ci manual couldn't go past!
Just what I needed! Still love my M54B30 tho, great daily engine!
Couple quick questions if I may? Just bought an 03 525i, e39. Engine had issues so I pulled it, got a newer motor through a reliable source, roughly 65,000 miles. Original car was at 170,000. Anything in specific I should look for while I have it apart? I am doing the gasket replacement as you did, may have the head from the newer motor rebuilt. Will replace all bad vacuum/fuel/accessory lines. Anything specific to the e39 I should be aware of? Thank you for your time and the great videos!
Great video, this is my next project, Only i wish you guys did a diy video for engine removal for us w/o a lift. I bought the Bentley repair manual but i really wish i had a visual
Screw the intro gets a like
Great inspiration...Good job man..
I'm right in the middle of doing this on my N54, what a PITA... So many oil leaks, basically every seal was leaking at 129k miles. Even tho it's a pain, it's also satisfying at the same time and you become a little more attached to your car.
true! Good luck!
awesome! my getrag 5 speed manual, centre or neutral is really loose, do you have a video on how to replace that spring?
First off I want to say I am a huge fan. I have a 2001 M3 and a 2002 330Xi and this is my go to site for all things E46. I am in the middle of rebuilding the front suspension on the 330Xi (new bushings, control arms, CV Axles, struts). Being a 17 year old BMW I can see oil leaks o'plenty. With all the suspension stripped off, are there any oil leaks I can fix that will be easier to access with the suspension off? Your advice would be appreciated.
How long does it usually take for you to reapond after submitting a appointment request?
Btw love the vids!
Bro I wish I lived near ui would let u do that 2 my 2004 BMW 325i,, I'm at 172000 miles and I'm about to change out the cooling system in my car,, before I got this car from my brother I did not know SHIT about a BMW,, but know I replaced a bunch of stuff to my car,, thanks to ur car videos and the 50's kid,, u both made my life a whole lot easier,, general maintenance in a car is easy,, it pays to do everything on time,, plus I enjoy watching ur videos cause ur funny ass hell,, go spend 10 grand on a Corrolla and hate your life I about pissed my pants when I heard that I'd rather spend 10 grand in a bmw and get more performance
Biggest fan of you. Your work is awesome. 👌
As always a good video I need this done to my E46 I just don’t have the time to do it you are about 10 mins away from me I gotta take it to you soon.
Excellent video! By the way can you post the slow version of this video? Thank you.
i love this channel and you are a awesome mechanic i love working on my 95 m3 ,but i will be buying a e46 m3 i will be doing all this in near future thanks bro need to find your shop u in socal?
Great content! Please do video on E9x M3 common problems!!
You are very smart guy it will be nice to know you so I could chill with you at your shop and catch a thing here and there how to work on Bmw.
Great work and advice as usual! Oh and what's the track Id at the end of the vid??!!
Maan... wish I had the time to do this to my 330 e46 ;( Nice video.I liked it
I have the time, but the know how nope...
Best non DIY vid Yet !
Lol I'm changing everything that breaks, But now idk wtf is wrong with it, and both of yah sound like us fighting. Great vid, I would love to swap trans.
Thanks for this video. I have an E46 325 engine with about 106,000 miles, you think its a good idea to re-gasket ?
This shit cracks me up lmao I love you two rlly influenced me n my e46s n helped a lot keep up the great content bro 👌
@shoplifeTV the valeo single mass conversion, I had issue fitting the one I bought n after research it said it was only for a 6 speed. I have the 5 speed but I ended up getting it to work, just had to bore out the center of the flywheel. My question is the 5 speed tranny different from rwd to awd as I have the awd.
I Truly Wish I Knew How to Do This MYSELF lol. Thank you for always giving us gud content, and for inspiring me to learn to do more and more work to my e46. Shes my baby...lol Like you girl said #love 😂😂
I'm working on my 03 m56 325i. What's the easiest way to change out the transmission oil heat exchange lines? And where do I get the pressure cap thing that goes on top of valve cover
Taking on all you have said.. If you had the engine / trans out of the vehicle, do you have a complete list of everything to replace / change out / reseal available ?
I like ur video because they are explicit n easy to understand because I am French! U n ur girlfriend should have a TV shows! Keep going the good work guys!
Thank you for watching Alain :)
Awesome you two!!!
Thanks Sunny!
Love you videos man. Very inspiring. I want to buy and 2014 535d with 70k miles. What do you think about the bmw Diesel engines? I'm immegrating to US South Carolina in two months and will have to buy a used car. I've only owned BMW's and did most services myself but never serviced a Diesel car.
Damn I'd love to do this to my Dad's E39, if only I had a hoist! Where are you from and do you run your shop as a business as well?
u got anything for E46 convertible top remove, if you can record it "how" please
ShopLifeTV I replaced my oil pan gasket. N54. New bolts. Torqued to 6ft lbs in the correct pattern going from the middle out. Then I angled the short bolts to 90 degrees and long bolts to 180 degrees. Not 30 minutes of having the gasket on without starting the engine it’s already leaking. I cleaned the surface really well with rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth. I don’t get it.
If you had a 325, could you swap the internals in the engine to make it a 330? People say its the same block and the only differences are internal and manifold?
About a 2001 325i and I don't have any compression in cylinder 3 I didn't tried everything that's possible valve cover change all that I just think I need a motor what's your thoughts
How much do you think on average shops would charge to do this? To pull the motor and replace all the gaskets? My ccv went back and the excess oil pressure caused everything in my beloved 330i to leak💔 :(
You guys are truly awesome I'm a bmw diyer myself love those cars. So true what you said but alot people are terrified of working on cars.
Yes! and thanks for watching!
Do you recommend an electric fan, if I live in Texas, where the temperature reaches 100 regularly... p.s. its my daily!
Nice work
Why dislikes? You are huge service to many....certainly me....wish you guys were in my area.
What about 330D though. Considering getting the diesel one instead of the petrol engine..
What web site do you purchase you parts from? I've purchased so called oem parts online and not up to manufacturing spec.
Shop vac! lol, never thought of that....
Aye yo bro i need some help
I got the code p0741? Something with the torque converter? Is there anyway to fix this without replacing the torque converter
@ShopLifeTV I need your help my e46 engine overheat what should I do
Hi.
Why the intake camshaft is covered by plastic?
Hey bro I was wondering what transmission are you using I got a 330i 2002 E46 and I'll try to make it a manual
I love this argument! I would do it if I had your skills but... I don't.
That is just awesome
Love this video - Vive Le E46!
Had a good ride today in the 325i, 164,000 mi.
I have a bmw325i 2003 i always have the same problem in the cold mornings i turn it ón and it wants to turn off and you mark me misfire cylinder 5 h ora 6
Yo, do you know an East coast version of yourself? I wish I had a local mechanic that specialized in BMW's near me in central CT.
An itemized list of everything you swapped out would be a good idea.
Best intro ever
I need help on my recent purchase.2011 BMW 535i xdrive will timing issues.Car is also missing the starter and fuel injectors. Will like to share my videos and hopefully get my questions answers
Hey how do you solve a intermittent low coolant light when your coolant level is fine. After replacing the coolant sensor 3 times now I have a solid light
You might have air in your cooling system, insufficient coolant level, faulty sensor or connector. Does it overheat?
This video is awesome!
does anyone know if the transmission cross-member the same for e46 and e39 for a zf5hp. the same goes for driveshaft. if not then by any chance anyone have part numbers for the? Much thanks in advance
And do I have to do the timing when I do the head gasket?
My shop charged me 840 dollars for the valve cover gasket set they put on my e46. Did I get overcharged?...
Car payments arent bad if u shop right and know how to budget urself. For me nothing is more satisfying than buying new or low miles and being the first to modify.
ima buy a starlett anyways. beamsssss meeeehhh!!
like the back and forth with you and the chick. easy new sub cuz you actually touched the motor and not just the bumpers. 🤣🤣👌🏽👌🏽 no shade..just saying
You think you would be able to help with my 2003 e46 m3 it keeps draining the battery, I replaced it with a dealer battery and samething died in a week or 2 of no use
Have you checked the alternator? Ground wires?
Do you have any fully restored motor for sale for a automatic 2001 bmw 325i or a better motor that will fit in my e46
How much would it coast me to get my car re sealed gaskets replaced all that ? Labor price
All old bmws' totally deserve love and are worth fixing and daily driving rather than buying a new car. 100% without a doubt. You can buy one for super cheap, then fix it yourself, and it's reliable boom
