I went with 5/16” heater hose that measured 7.9mm inner diameter (ID). I thought it best to stretch it over larger ports than to clamp a larger hose over smaller ports. For reference:
-Throttle Body ports measure 8mm OD
-Oil cooler ports measure 9.5mm OD
In my research I did not find it made a difference as to which oil cooler port was connected to which throttle body port. I chose to connect the 45 degree oil cooler port to the bottom TB port and 90 degree bent oil cooler port to the top TB port. You are giving the coolant a quick detour from it's usual path and it maintains factory functionality.
Burping your cooling system:
I referenced the article linked below. When I cracked the air bleeder plug toward the end of my video a good a mount of air came out, followed by a dribble of fluid (hard to see in vid).

Goal: To regulate oil temps during daily and spirited driving. If I start to track the car in the future I will closely monitor oil temps and determine if the addition of an air to oil cooler makes sense. For the time being, this product makes sense for my current and near term needs.
I would consider this a must-do/bare minimum oil cooling mod if you drive this car spiritedly. If you drive on track I would invest in an air to oil cooler and an oil pan baffle.
This is awesome! Been wanting to find a cleaner solution than the typical $700 air coolers that aren't drainable. Definitely going to get this done before the Spring, thank you.
Update?
@@Carlos.Rivera Ended up going with a front mount cooler to control temps after a header install.
@@bagchief i see, can you elaborate more on this?
Just did this today, may actually buy some shielding for the hoses a bit later though
Thank you for publishing this. Very complete documentation. I will copy on my '13 FRS.
did you install ?
any advise?
Yes I installed on my '13 FRS. I followed the procedure outlined in the video. I bought the oil cooler online from Subaru and picked it up at my Subaru dealer. It went together fine. I can't say I've noticed a difference in the car temperature. I track the car 2-4 times a year and it give me peace of mind that I'm doing all I can to take care of it. My car is stock with a new air intake, cat back exhaust and adjustable coilovers struts.

thx for reply!
what is oil temp on track with this cooler?
and what oil you use ?
0w20 or ??
@@cayman9815 The temp stays right at normal warm operating temp. I use 0-10 Mobil One. I also stay away from the rev limiter. I set the shift light to 6500 rmp, I don't always shift at 6500, but I tend to short shift to protect the engine.
@@andyshoun
what is that temperature ?
Thanks for posting this video.
I wonder since the oil cooler is at the highest point of the cooling circuit even from the vent cap, how can we expel the air from the cooler?
Let me know how it works I might do this to my frs. Does it matter which hose goes where?
From the research I did prior to install it does not matter which hose goes where. Essentially the hoses extend the U-loop that was removed
I'm so glad someone asked this question I've been going nuts trying to find a answer, also to support this mod did you go with a oil temp gauge or a oil pressure gauge out of curiosity ?
Wonder the part number on Toyota side...
Hi, do u have the link of the cooler 21311A220? Tired to google but couldn’t find anything. Thanks a lot.

Does it ok for brz or gt86 auto transmission ? Thx guys
This oil cooler is specific for 2022 gen brz???. As we know there is oil cooler for wrx, forester ect ect.
I suppose it could be used on latest gens Subarus (new 2022 WRX etc). I'm not sure if that is the case though being the part number is specific to the 2022 gen BRZ. It is certainly different than the popular Forester XT mod- differences are highlighted in video
@@gearswitch5692 Until now , how is working the oil cooler??? Can you say how many degrees are you saving with this mod????
@@joelhendz There is a lot of data driven research out there by BRZ owners using the old Forester oil cooler and I would assess this one is even more effective, but have not done my own data logging.
