    A lot a people are scared to buy a use one. I bought a 2018 brz tS during summer at about 32 000 miles. Went from a Speed3 platform and my girlfriend own a 2016 STI. I must say these thing are pretty "cheap" to maintain compare to the STI or the Speed3! You can always have surprises when you buy use, but i must say for a first "cheap" sport car they are hard to beat. Check your oil, do the basic maintenance and you are ready to have fun thats about it!
    Subaru/Toyota offered a super nice platform for the enthusiast to learn and grow with the car.

    I recently bought a 2013 BRZ with 150k miles and currently working on maintenance stuff. Spark plugs, air filters, PCV valve and hose, thermostat, fluids, etc.
    One thing I noticed that had a slow coolant leak were the water pipe o-rings. Your other video actually helped. I had to pull the intake manifold off to get to it but it’s been fun and it’s almost ready to be back on the road. 😁

    If you want to bring back those headlights I recommend Cerakote's headlight ceramic kit. Used it on my wifes yaris that had really bad yellowing and peeling headlights. Made them look like glass and the ceramic coat has been holding up perfectly even though the car takes a beating from the sun at her place of work.

    If you change the oil every 5000 miles, put in the normal full synthetic, and check your oil and other fluids at least once a week, this engine will repay you will reliability and longevity. Granted my car is not boosted. Also, I've changed the plugs on my FR-S twice without jacking up the engine. It's tough but it can be done

The report came back with recommendation to go to 12K before next oil change. We drive mostly long distance, with very few cycles. Interesting, eh? 😇

      @@darrellborland119 that's good! And you're welcome. I've driven my car long distance, city driving, a couple of track days, some abusive driving. I always change every 5000 mi. A couple of times I may have gone over on the interval a couple hundred miles. Most of the time I use Subaru oil filters. Switched to 5w-30. Haven't sent a sample to black stone yet. But it's got 170k+ miles on it and the engine runs nice and smooth, no noises, so far so good 😊 I'm saying this to say that as long as you keep up with the oil changes you'll more likely make the engine last as long as possible without catastrophic failures. I always make sure to monitor the oil level too. And I've never used high mileage synthetic oil

      @@stevef3521 I bought mine with about 48k miles so in the beginning it didn't need high mileage oil. As time went on I just kept putting in regular full synthetic. Idk what different additives are put in high mileage oil but I've always stayed away from it. I've never put it in any cars that I've owned and I've owned mainly higher mileage cars. Non high mileage will still lubricate your engine just fine. I've just completed a 2100 mile trip in my FR-S, did a regular synthetic oil change right before. Now it has 179k and still runs good, no problems.

Since this my first real car that I have purchased, keeping this car up to prestine condition has been something that I am making my main goal. This video is a perfect example of what to go over in a used vehichle without any of the down and dirty work. Just simple inspections that could save your ass thousands if taken the time to do so. This video gave me the wearabouts as to what I should be looking for in my used BRZ and I highly appreciate that. There are countless vids that will tell you how to mod a brz but very few actual describe how to main a brz throughout years of ownership. Also, with someone who has 0 friends or family that know a thing or practically anything about cars, having simple videos like these go a long way!

    I have been owning by 13 BRZ since 2014. Bought it used @ 12k miles, and now about to hit 100k with decent amount of mods. Still running really smooth like brand new but with regular standard maintenance (oil change, regular inspection, tires etc). There was a coolant leak at thermostat and replaced it right away. That was the only major repair. I notice some bushings are slowly getting worn out, but it’s about time anyway. Anyway, fun daily driving car, gas efficient and teaching me a lot on how to DIY everything.

      @@colexoible6382 My bad brz video first engine that came to mind is the FA20 they come with. I've watched plenty of videos with people blowing up their Frs,brz,86s yrying to shortcut straight to forced induction without addressing their CR first. The FA20 is really efficient for what it is for comparison my 98' Ej25d makes 165 hp and has .5 more liters. So as far as N/A standards go its a good effiicient engine. I just hate watching people blow their cars up by being egged on by the community. Same people in my community will encourage people to turbo their EJ25D'S. Can you? Sure. But its an open deck powerplant so its not going to be boosted for long.

Also here the general consensus is if ya got a na ej its not worth it.

      @I-didnt-ask-you Рік тому

      @@zacharyshoemaker835 it's more the conrods and too much low end torque or detonation. It's somewhat knock limited because it has that high compression and lack of high enough octane and strong conrods. However you can push these engines on some decent boost if your tune is good and you know not to lug the engine. I've had mine turbocharged for almost 2 years and I've had it reach about 1 bar of pressure. I wouldn't want to go any higher than that regardless of fuel quality unless I had at least some forged conrods.
      A friend of mine uses the stock compression ration but a built engine and pushes about 600 horsepower at the wheels in his BRZ.

The plastic coupler was destroyed. I replaced the coupler for $8. Subaru didn't sell the part, they wanted $1400 to replace the entire EPS. The car is dependable and fun to drive. The cabin is noisy that has required extensive sound deadening. It is a good commuter car but, it will kill your back if you plan 6 hour trips.

I just ordered my second one last month and loved the 2017 model i had. great car right out of the box...easily made better with minor tweaks to the basic package wheels and tires being up near the top of the list. You probably already have done your upgrades but 17x8 wheels with 235/45-17 rubber makes for a great compromise between unsprung weight ride quality, grip in corners and under braking, and minimal impact on fuel economy. About running low on oil:
    On my engine there is about a full quart of oil between the min and max mark on the dipstick so I fill up to the max then it can loose an entire quart and still have enough oil for the pickup to the submerged at all times.
    And a quart doesn't just vanish that would probably take me 20.000+ miles to burn and I don't have any bad leaks.
    With there being a windage tray and often upper oil pan between the oil and the crank I don't see any harm in filling up the oil to the max level in any car.

Helping me very much with my 2007 Legacy 2.5i Special Edition wagon..Just replaced the alternator after watching some of your vids..Weird...parking brake light AND the Batt light came on and blinked..Before that, like 4 weeks before, only the park brake light would come on, even though it was not engaged..would go out after a couple minutes of driving...then about 2 weeks before both of the lights came on and blinked, the park brake light and the batt light would come on and then go out after a couple minutes..That alternator sure gave me enough advanced warning not to get stuck... Question, if possible: Can I replace the transmission filter without draining the fluid? I drained the fluid and replaced with the Subaru fluid but had no filter at that time...I don't want to pull the old filter and have to deal with all the fluid trying to pour out...

    • @MrSubaru1387
      @MrSubaru1387  Рік тому

      Yeah. You let it sit a while and the fluid in the lines should drain back to the trans pan, little should come out with screwing the filter off.

    MrSubaru1387- I have a 2018 BRZ that I bought new and i haven’t replaced the spark pugs yet. Other than doing the spark plugs I take good care of it, never do burn outs or drive like a hooligan,I change the oil every 5k miles using Penzoil Ultra Platinum and almost always put Shell V-Power gas. My question is how bad am I damaging the engine by not replacing the spark plugs yet?

    Lucky cars up north its rust eating parts up. 10 year old cars tend to have a lot of rust problems. In PA most cars cant pass inspection for frames rusting throught. My own gm truck only did 88k frame rotted from the inside out after 11 years.

It's a 2014 OB. Next job is new brake dust gards in the sprung. They rusted and are falling apart like onions. Love the brine they spray on everything here. They even do our dirt roads in summer fit dust. Thank the air quality people for that.
