I own a One RS and a Go pro, and I use the RS all the way. There are various reasons, but the main one is the ability to switch between lenses when needed (4k and 360), and it costed me the same as a gopro. By the way, I feel like you shot in high sharpness value with the insta 360, that's why it doesn't look great in this example, you can try to lower the sharpness and will see how much better it looks
I appreciate that you guys gradually added the saturation and contrast to the GoPro footage as you described it at the very end. It was subtle but made a big difference!
Can you do an updated video of your post-production process, please?
Would love to see this too
Yes please, would love to know how you do all of the video capture and production.
The insta 360 looks better to me, more detail in the picture and dynamic range compared to the gopro. I think the sharpness issue is due you didn't change the default sharpness to a lower value.
It has more detail but in no way shape or form does it have more dynamic range, that is the exact thing it is lacking
Can you do a follow up episode on the whole editing/publishing pipeline? For me that friction of having to spend the extra hours off the bike to produce decent quality clips is what puts me off for now. Maybe if I see that it's not that hard and time consuming I'll change my mind?
Agreed this would be great!
Boss video, I appreciate the direct and visceral review style. Hope you do more
XTU looks like a good cheap rear-facing cam for racing.
This was terrific and thank you for taking the time to do it
Very cool! Thanks!
Great video! I actually own an Insta360 ONE RS myself and my footages definitely came out better. Have you ever tried to lower the default sharpness in setting ? It actually makes a pretty big difference.
Useful and concise info, thanks. 1:01 Thought you were gonna wake that guy up when you passed but he must have been pretty bushwhacked! 😄
Go Pro footage when setup right has always been the best! I've never understoo why reviewers complain so much, its gorgeous. And my Hero 7 looks like the footage above! They've been leading for sometime :) #GoPro
It would be interesting to see the comparison in low light settings as well
A really useful video, thank you. I’m
Running out of handlebar space to mount things - do you have a link for the bracket you use to mount these on your bike please ? The camera underneath the computer is a great idea. Thank you
I would also appreciate a link to the mount used.
let's not forget that all these footages have been on a sunny day.
Hey Jeff! Could you maybe share us your specs for the gopro in a next vid? Thank you :)
Dude, are you serious? That gopro footage looks certainly not bad, but the bitrate seems to be super low and loses detail. The insta360 is my favourite on this list, but you made the mistake of not bringing down the default sharpness values to medium or low. Also, come on, the stabilization on that $149 camera is unusable, super shaky even on a flat road. Not sure why you chose them in that order, but shared this video with a few friends and they had a hard time when choosing between the insta and the gopro, miles ahead of the others
Sounds like the reviewer prioritizes the wide viewing angle over detail and color.
I came to the same conclusion you did. GoPro lost out in terms of detail, insta was the best there. I was basing it off of how well I could view the words on the signage.
The color profile is way better on the gopro. Its nice and flat the way it should be. The "detail loss" you describe is more due to to youtube compression. Its looks great in 4K
The color profile on the insta 360 is just to oversaturated, which means the footage can go straight into the garbage.
@@Rob-fx5yn But wouldn't all of clips suffer from the same detail loss though if they are being compressed? This means that they all should be suffering from the same detail loss you are describing regardless of the platform and quality chosen. The GoPro is the only one that looks awful in this regard.
Would it have made a difference in the sound of the other cameras if you had that "wind muff" on them?
Love to see your shootout include the Osmo action cam. Too bad Sony no longer plays in this space. I loved their form factor for being aero on the bike. Quality was great too.
I know this is intended to be a simple comparison so it doesn't take too much time, but 1) I would also like to see how quickly each camera adjusts (or reacts) in sudden light changes. Like going from bright, mid-day sun, into heavy or broken shadow, and back again ( a bit longer, or deeper shadow than the occasional tree, like say a tunnel) . And 2) how easily is each camera confused in its ability to focus with an ever changing foreground, (as in pack riding). Are they slow to respond from near to far? do they "swim" at trying to refocus? or is it pretty much instant?
Also, The GoPro seems to be overly warm. This is easy to fix in post, but it is just one more step to take. I also like that it is also less contrasty than the others, and the 360 is at the bottom range of acceptable shadow detail that I would be willing to accept.
But since features weren't covered, it is difficult to make any judgement on the level of contrast or differences in lens coatings, or other functions.
I am very much enjoying all of you videos. Keep it up :)
GoPro vs DJI Action would be cool to see sometime in the future.
My pick goes:
3-Stablization is good and it has the most amount of crispness to it
1-Not quite as crisp, hard to make out the words on the signage
4-Other that the Overlay text it isn't so bad
2-Stablization ability is awful. Crispness isn't bad but wow that stabilization makes this the worst.
On the Akaso waterproof case, it with the case doesn't appear to be that more chonky compared to other cameras with the built-in waterproofing. Also in addition to the camera audio that awful overlay text is annoying to use and just makes it into dashcam territory.
No Surprise the GoPro takes the top spot for you.
I am not in the market to purchase an action camera but if I was one route I would take is to look at older models and seeing how they contend since I can get them secondhand for cheaper than the brand new models.
I noticed you had some type of microphone cover on the GoPro. Though I'm sure it would still win
Opinions on the Insta360 Go2?
Unrelated to vid, but are you coming to intelli this year? July 22nd-31st!
What about battery life?
What saddle mount do you use?
Riding a Ventum now? We’re going to need a bike check on the new whip!
Have you ever tried a 360 degrees camera? I know the quality won't be great but it could bring some good angles
I guess it's just a differnce in perspective when you compare the insta360 to the gopro. The gopro image looks like someone went in and wiped out all the rough edges, it doesn't look real, like it came of a video game. On the insta360 you can look down and see the rocks in the road and the leaves in the tree.
I bet a lot of people prefer the look of camera number 3. People love over saturation for some reasom
GoPros always look way better after post editing. Raw GoPro footage just lacks the saturation and seems quite flat. Same for my older Hero 3 & 4 Black Editions. Even when I set my Hero 4 to 4k.
There are two camera secrets I can't get my head around: (1) How do you crit video recorders make the battery on any of these last more than ~30-40 mins? I have a GoPro HERO 8 and that's about where it lands, despite the claimed time of 70 mins at 60fps linear-wide. (2) Is there any way to add telemetry that isn't as painstaking, labourious and imprecise as manually aligning the footage with VIRB Edit?
The second is my big pain point. I have to rotate the footage 180 degrees since the camera is hanging down, then I have to piece together the fragments into which the camera split the footage, then I have to figure out exactly where I am geographically in an elementary school parking lot in a place I don't know... there's got to be a better way. That better way is obviously aligning the footage timestamps to time indexes in the FIT data, but I know of no software which does this. Why on earth not?!
Would love to see a comparison of the GoPro vs DJI Action.
That is the camera I wished was in this comparison!
Camera 4 looked like an Osmo knock off.
Did you go to pros nats?
Should have thrown in the DJI Action because that's pretty comparable to the Go Pro and is usually a little cheaper
The dynamic range on the gopro is unbeatable
osmo action is better wityh cropped frame dthough no fisheye
I'm still rocking the hero7 black and the footage is great for my use..just carry extra batteries on longer rides .
I have 2 hero 7s, first gopros that had hypersmooth and they're still a great (budget) option.
@@NorCalCycling thanks for the reply..love the content..keep those wins coming in..Love the TCR..my next dream bike..😍
how does older GoPros compare to the XTU? Used gopro hero 6 black (at least a month ago when I was shopping) was just a little over the $149 price of the XTU. Would you rather have a hero 6 black or the XTU?
Hero 7 or later is when GoPros got really good
Would love to see you or your editors way of producing the footage 😃
Agree on that - Gopro has it in performance. But after years of them ignoring us am so hoping competitor would take Gopro's top spot by fixing some of their long-ignored issues:
1. Gopro's insanely evil file naming - canz i hate enough the resulting sorting?
2. Mounting hardware - gets in the way of everything. Was it made by/for masochists who hate practical functionality?
3. Battery life and their overall design. At the VERY least we need some way to change these without fumbling if their life is going to be soooo short!
4. Flat brick form factor. Can we get tubular? Anything with less cD. I'm not that much for aero but really - do I need to look like a teletubby if I want to mount on a helmet?
Thanks, very useful. The GoPRO looks neat but I like the InstaRS the most which looks more natural.
Then you take I’m consideration of the stabilization of the go pro which is so much better
On #4, did you out sprint that kid?
I might rank the XTU Max lower because of the watermark/logo included on the video.
i honestly prefer 3 over 1
Just bought a action camera to lol
it is waterproof
Lemme get a video on how many watts lost with the cameras mounted 🤣🤣
Mister Williams doesn't seem to worry about watts lost with a helmet mounted camera.😃
I’ve always wondered about this, like do you try to use a chest Mount instead? Spend $12k on an aero bike and then throw a brick in front of the head tube?
I just get frustrated on how the footage looks on UA-cam compared to the edited video on my computer. In the same video an Iphone footage will look great and the gopro will look terrible
I really didn't see a huge difference in the 4 cameras, I think the difference lays in where its mounted, I like the helmet mount concept like Cory does to give a perspective on what the rider is seeing and the rear camera on the saddle is also a great key shot
#2
Insta360 is on par with GoPro.. worse and better in some ways.
Bit windy
GoPro is the best and it's not even close. The standard 4k/60 fps footage is solid and then using the auto-adjust feature on the app makes it look amazing.
the insta blew the go pro away in color and FOV
Go Pro was very washed out, How could you have it as 1 ($$$ ?). -Cam 2 & 4 you swayed the handle bars a lot more. Why not mount them all at same time.
the over wide looks crappy and distorted
I ll stay with insta.
I bet that test rig is not aero.
I wasn't particularly impressed with the quality of any of these though I agree the GoPro did it best. I want to see a comparison between the GoPro and an iPhone 13 Pro and a few compact cameras like the Sony DSC-RX0 II, and the Canon PowerShot G7 X III.
problem is I can't fit an iphone or compact camera on my handlebars, which is why I didn't include them in this comparison.
GoPro looks terrible out of the camera. Insta just needs the sharpening turned down.
Early ❤️
Can i have one of that sir..😊😊subscriber from philippines.. shout out to sir.. thank you..
