3:24 That was hilarious. I would also like to say that I am a fan of GCN, I watch all your videos. I know how hard it is to produce content about road cycling every day but somehow you manage to produce usefull and hilarious content and keep it interesting. Keep up the good work guys
And after 6 years they keep it up
That happens all the time here in #Thailand where I live. I challenge @GCN to bike the back roads along the River of Kings (aka Chao Phraya River) to the ancient temple UNESCO city of Ayutthaya. It's a... 2 hour commute and you'll see elephants.
Crotch-cam would have to involve some sort of Helmet-mount, no doubt.
lol...thanks for the visual..........................not
Do a video about what goes into a GCN video.
Just to add a couple of things, remember that sometimes you need to record the sound separately with a good mic with a wind filter, (if you are talking while shooting) and also remember most cameras allow you to use a power bank while you record longer rides. Thanks!
"He came within 12 ft!!" lol
Social distancing :p

4:14 - 4:15 ... matt's new cleat record!!
Agreed!!
ilikewasabe w
Yes!
"so we're gonna have to shoot something very spectacular for it to stand out..." **matt's arse right in the center of the screen**
Love the slow-mo footage of Matt, oh wait
You guys read my mind. I was about to suggest this topic couple days ago. Thank you GCN!!!!!
Love the hand sign for mix...
Epic
This show is great, always, and the above title is no exception! Really appreciate the tips on filming and the fun you always show. The card sized at 32 and 64 Gb with filming at a preferred 60fps along with filming positioning pros and cons all new to me and very much appreciated! Keep up the best of bread show.
This is actually a very nice How to! Didn't expect it, but I needed it!
Amazing vid, very informative and well made. Many thanks!
you guys are awesome! such great senses of humor.
My bf and i just started biking and we love watching your videos! They are so informative and funny! 😄 thank you
Thanks for the tips! as always, appreciated
Thanks guys, valuable information for my next adventure. :)
thanks guys!
come to Georgia in the US ! You'll love the silver comet trail
This is the first video I have seen from you guys. It was informative and funny. Thank you.
+sonicx059 cheers. Subscribe. Loads more good stuff daily 👍
Thanks for the idea idol.Keep safe on all your rides.
U guys should position the action camera near Matt's peddles so we can see his struggles clipping in
Great tips even after 5 years! Thanks!
lots of useful information, thank you.
Thanks guys. Really fun and helpful vid.
Good points lads. Post production is important in making what might seem boring to others, something interesting to watch, plus exposure/color can be adjusted. Technically, I have used all mounts and the K-edge on the handlebar/seatpost is the most stable. 32GB class 10 cards for a 5 hour century ride. Double battery pack on GoPros, carry extras. Rub/polish water repellent like Rainguard to avoid that drop of water that sticks to the case or the occasional insect.
just when I bought my first action cam thanks GCN :)
3:22 omg, laughing so hard :D love you guys, and your humor
very good Guys! loved it.
terrific video, very useful
Love those Nike arm warmers Si, shout out to Matt for sticking with the GCN brand!
Let me start out by saying thank you. I'm looking for a cam and you did a great job of describing how to use one and I think I'm going with Garmin. I still have a little work to do, I'll also look on here for suggestions for helmets. I ride mostly in the City at the moment. I have a hybrid but would like to do longer rides. Cheers
Good video! great tips!
I miss this combo! I can't believe it's been 7+ years
Interesting video! Would love a behind the scenes GCN video tho!
These guys are great!
'Stating the bleeding obvious'....Brilliant!
You covered everything on this video ! thanks
No. They didn't mention White Balance, or EV Comp.
I am very curious about what equipment do you use on a motorcycle :) And what do you use to record audio.
Some good tips!
Thanknyou reallt really helpful!!;)))
I have a Gopro camera on my helmet and on the rear of my bike connected to seat post.
thanks so much!
Loving the channel. Some really informative stuff with humour and banter. Keeps me hooked for hours. The girlfriend hates you right now! As a new rider could you do a video into the real world differences between a cheaper road bike such as a Ribble R872 around the 800 pound mark and something like a Cervelo r3 or s3 at a few thousand pounds. Also what bike should beginners go for. Should they spend the larger amounts early on to prevent premature upgrading or get a cheaper bike in case it's actually not for them.
New personal best Matt!
Thanks for the tips, mister. I am using insta 360 go 2 and looking for some tips
You guys are funny and not trying to be perfect (very smart)!
Great video.
1:49 Aha! Finally found out how you guys film the good quality video. I always assume it is with a small car or motorcycle (and sometimes drone), but it's good to have confirmation!
love u guys
great tips and funny guys!
GCN fans from malaysia..
Brilliant video new sub
Great video as always. I film most of my rides when riding with friends or when leading the ride from my local shop I will only use aluminum mounts as they are really the most stable - plastic is junk. I use three - sometimes 4 GoPros at once. 2 on my bike - one front and one facing the rear always at a minimum, one or more on a friends handle bars facing forward, and sometimes on as a chest mount but I find that to be a little limiting as it only looks cool once in a while. I have also mounted one under my non-drive side chain stay and that was a cool angle too! Always film the faces to see people smile........the editing is just as important!
+John Knowles And, I post ALL of them on my UA-cam channel.
make a video about your places to go cycling plssss
+sancheskix There are plenty of it, check out GCN Epic Climb
what a video! I have one question, how do you guys record your voice while riding?
Yay another video
Great video, could you tell me what kind of mic you use while you ride?
Woulda been funny if you said ‘Epic! Epic! So Epic! Oh damn I forgot to record it’ 🤣
haha nice video ! very informative :)
Thank you
Where was this recorded, it looks like a really nice place to cycle.
+TNE_IMPOSSIBLE Devauden Road, Forest of Dean
Thank you :)
Devauden & Llandogo which are near Chepstow in the wye valley.
4.15 Matts definitely been practising clipping in!
a 2023 remake of this please. I love it! you could become instagram or tiktok influencers but only record your footage on an action camera and try go viral?
Can you do a vid on overlaying the speed/cadence etc?
How do you like the new Virb versus the old one? Is it worth upgrading to right away? It looks quite a bit different.
That Scott bike is from way back, good to see it been ridden again
Matt's first pro clip in..... we should make shirts, coffee cups, and send announcements to the GCN cycling community to let the world know of Matts clip in...... Chapeau Matt!
"shoot something pretty spectacular" hahaha, brilliant matt
SO EPIC
GCN reading instructions! Awesome!
The speedo overlay really helps when filming stretches of road, I think.
I've already got a gopro but the fact you can overlay info with this in screen is a pretty cool feature.
+MG You can do it with go pro footage, as long as you record the GPS data somehow.
Just use the garmin software to import the ride data and the video, match it up and then export.
+CycleGaz oh right, cheers Gaz I'll have to have a play about with that!! niceone mate!
I love using my GoPro in my cycling vlogs!
I just bought an Akaso Brave 6 Plus action camera! I almost bought the "V 50 Pro SE (Special Edition -"Leave No Trace") because it has 60fps at 4k while mine only has 30FPS at 4k, and the other 1 is only $15 more. Despite that I am keeping the Brave 6 plus, it has WAY better sound from built in mic AND it has significantly better EIS (electronic image stabilization). So I am really happy with my Akaso brave 6 plus, I got it on Amazon and they had an automatic $10 off coupon. This camera is either equal or 95% as good as a gopro but it was $110 instead of $300 for a go pro! Before this I never knew there were good affordable action cameras, very happy to GOOD action camera I can afford on a teachers salary!
Best way to film your rides is with the Bike Selfie Stick from RAS Sports. Its like a drone following you!
Grt guys👍👏
Any recommendations for a camera? Looking for one to link with all things Garmin..Watch and 520. New to the filming game and no sure what to get. Cheers
Hi GCN please can you review cameras for personal safety....I have had two cases of motorist overtaking with insufficient clearance and also holding the horn continuously whilst passing i.e. trying to cause me to crash or fall off. I am NOT interested in uploading the pictures for any reason however I (and possibly many others) do want to feel safer from threats from abusive drivers. If the minority of dangerous drivers, like Dean Goble, are dealt with due to evidence (film footage) being available then perhaps the roads will become safer.
3:24 That happens all the time here in Thailand where I live. I challenge GCN to bike the back roads along the River of Kings (aka Chao Phraya River) to the ancient temple UNESCO city of Ayutthaya. It's a... 2 hour commute and you'll see elephants.
There are no cameras on the market for cyclists. This must change. Most people just a cheap Action Camera mounted to a helmet to record traffic for legal purposes.
I died laughing at 3:20 Ahahahhaa
A selfie stick attached to the bottom of your seat to film your self all the time. If you can add some lateral movement to the camera I bet it would make some crazy lateral footage in the corners
epic!
Сan't get more epic EPIC EPIC. So epic!
The next top chart hit: mount, mix and charge.
+Thijs Van den Brande anybody around with some mixing skills to sample Matt's expression?
EPIC! ;)
5:05 Glorious!
Great video - just to add though. 60fps doesn't make files sizes bigger than 30fps (using a GoPro at least) as the compression method used works using a series of frames so addiditional frames are calculated from previous and next (but you probably knew that). I prefer to use 60fps just for the reason that you get a stacato effect instead of a movemnet blur using 30fps. Makes things like rain, mud spray and dirt\dust look dramatic. I then encode down to 30fps as there aren't many devices that can cope with 1080\60.
I was hoping to find info about using wide angle, normal, or narrow angle while riding!
What is the microphone used in when you ride the bike?
Is it connected to the cell phone?
I 3D printed a little extension for a gimbal that I attached to my bars.
Basically leaves the entire cockpit out of the frame and only shows you the road with some nice stabilization.
Not very aero or lightweight tho.
Willingly or adopt the camera to the test :D
What wireless microphones are you using to create this? Cheers!
Why do you use the Garmin Virb and not GoPro and what other cameras do you use when you're filming in your "studio" or from a car or motorcycle (often when you do the intro while riding and the camera is facing you). Also what mic's do you use when cycling and on which software do you edit your footage?
Great video, but I was hoping to see some suggestions for cameras. There are so many kinds out there, but I'm on a tight budget and would like to get a decent camera that I put on my bike so I can film my descents. Anyone have any good suggestions? Thanks.
please do a video about how you make a gcn vid!
Fastest clip in @4:14 ?
You guys are awesome
Indeed
No
Good deal
Hahhaha, can relate to that 03:20
Please make something like "Stuff cycling commuters say"
My tip: If you're using a camera housing mount (like a GoPro etc) a drop or two of Rain-X to the external lens cover will help minimise dreaded rain droplets hugging to the front of mount and spoiling the video - never apply anything directly to the lens itself as it will damage the lens coating.
I use SQ8 mini dv full HD €15 camera on the handlebar +2000 mah power bank under horizontal tube on the busy traffic roads for the same purpose as the car
drivers do. Recommend!👍🚴
Hi guys I have an Avanti monza which is approx 8 to 10 yrs old been well looked after and well serviced by great group of guys at TBE and jcc here in Perth is it worth putting new wheels on my bike , iam not sure what the bike is worth or just go and buy another bike looking at full carbon.
Waiting for you're reply , thanks.
Alex.😀🚴🏿
When is the video "How to train your dragon like a pro" coming out?
mount. mix. & charge. ... I can remember that !
