THIS is what tuned me in to your channel. The interaction you have with your dogs, and how you stressed the importance of building a relationship with your dog FIRST, told me that you were the right person i should listen to. I have learned so much from you, it is because of you that i feel like i understand dogs more.

I have a very smart, athletic Aussie who loves to play fetch. He has the potential to be really super with a frisbee. He easily jumps way high to grab one out of the air. What I really need help with is the proper way for ME to throw the frisbe. Mine go out and then sink way off to the left just before he has the chance to jump and grab. It’s me not him!

Hi Zak! My husband and I have watched your videos Sooo many times in preparation for adopting our first puppy, who we will hopefully adopt this week! I've got a billion questions but heres one- is it or is it not a good idea for a dog to sleep in bed with you, particularly a small dog like a pug? I've heard that it can lead to bad behavior (and sleep habits!), but I've also heard its good for bonding with your pet. Also, how do you transition from crate to bed when a puppy is fully crate trained? Thanks!

I had a question regarding using turkey ham like you do for dog training. I am a new owner of a Siberian husky puppy but while reading about 'what foods not to give your dog' I came across, fat trimmings from ham and other meats as one of those. The reason why this particular food was to be omitted is because it could potential cause pancreatitis--the site also noted that turkey skin is high in fat content. I am a little bit concerned now about training my puppy with turkey ham but it seems like the best way to keep from overfeeding my dog while training. What would you advice on this matter. By the way I found this on a dog chat forum online. Thank you very much!

Ok this helped but one question is still lingering, my dog catches it and charges back. he will bring the Frisbee either all the way to me or drop it 3 ft away. This doesn't allow me to throw multiple distance throws. I know this isn't a big problem to have just curious how to get him to drop it from a distance as it seems he thinks drop it means come close to me and drop it lol

Hi Zach, so I have a question for you. See I'm trying to adopt a 2 year old Rottweiler male from a guy on Craigslist. Me and him have talked over the phone. I have asked him all the necessary questions about the dog and he has screened me to see if I'm right for his dog. I have always owned big breed dogs. Pitbulls, German shepherd, and even a Rottweiler but I've always been introduced to all of them since they were puppies. My question is, how do I go about the transfer of the dog from his current owner to my home? He said his dog may not trust male humans because he has only been around his wife and his daughter.
How should I approach the dog on our first encounter?
How do I win his trust?
If I meet him today and he is ok with me being around him can I just take him that same day?
Me and the owner live very far away from each other which is why I haven't met the dog yet and when I do go over it can only be for one day. I have looked for info on this topic all over the internet but the info is severely limited.

Buddha Hut Great Dane's aren't a good breed for frisbee training because their size already makes them prone to joint problems later on in life. Adding Frisbee's would only make it worse on their joints.

Don't get rubber ones, apparently they don't like the smell of them. My dog has several frisbees, ranging from $2 to $10, the more expensive ones either snapped in half or became so rough around the edges from him picking them up. The $2 ones have lasted, they're plastic but don't split in half.

Great job and movies. Thanks a lot for your ideas with frisbee! One thing - this 'wi-fi collar' is not so good. Wi-fi signal is all the time very near to the dogs head, neck and spine ... the same as we have a cellphone directly at the head. Everybody knows that wi-fi signal for long time is not healthy (even cancer). So - frisbee YES, wi-fi collar - NO :-(

I have a problem. My parents are trying to give one of our Dogs, Bella, out of the family because of how misbehaved she is. She always runs around and try to get our attention, she always bites our other dog whenever she gets jealous of her, she doesn't listen to is, etc. I'm going to collage and I can't take her with me. I feel like I can still help her, but I'm not sure how to start. What should I do?

+Chao Flaka try getting your dog a lot of exercise everyday for the hyper behavior, and for training just start out with simple stuff like a great come when called, stay, or leave it. For the jealously thing someone can try feeding your dog while she looks at the other dog being pet. You can also try putting her in a stay (if you have a good stay) while petting or playing with the other dog, but have someone stay with her and pet her. Then it's her turn to play while the other dog looks on. Also try training both at the same time IE give them both treats in front of each other "Bella sit, good girl, other dog sit, good girl" sounds like she's just an excited energetic dog who likes people and her problems are stemming from not getting enough exercise / people interaction. Hope this helped! I also have to leave my dog (that we wouldn't have adopted if it wasn't for me) with my family while I go to college in a couple years. Let me know how it works out for you!

+Kevin Urbeck...Kevin-I'm not a trainer so I'll defer to them for advise on how to train him to..." let go." I just saw how she did not like the one type of Frisbee and noticed the difference. She was a 'jumper' who could really 'get up there'. Really a pretty thing to watch. Another thing you might notice is that if you are consistent with you throws your dog will figure out where the wind will take it and go to that point. My collie saw that the west wind would blow the Frisbee back to a certain point in the yard and wait there for it to come down. I threw it about 3/4 times and when I saw what she did I just said to myself....." wait a minute, did she just do what I think she did." Yep, she did!

Hey Zak I have a 5 month old pug and she won't give me her toy. When I try getting it from her (holding it up a bit, stabilizing it) she starts growling :/. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, I try to make the toy as uninteresting as possible for her .. do you or anyone else here has any tips for me ?
(sorry for the mistakes, I'm german)

Try luring her away with a treat, say drop and take out a treat and put it to her nose as soon as she starts getting interested in it yes/mark the behaviour and she will most likely let the toy go... if not just wait her out she will get bored. Growling can just be a sign that she is really having fun tugging!

My dog will catch a frisbee if it's in front of his face or the side of his face.. but he doesn't seem to want to run and catch it... yet he tries but he doesn't even come close to it. Lol

I would suggest starting with come and stay. But it'll take awhile. Dogs naturally like chasing things.

What I'm doing with my 9 months old border collie is going for a run with him, and keep him motivated to run with me by shouting encouraging things like ''come on, run'' etc. Takes a while, but my dog barely chases anything but a frisbee, or somebody else's toys now ;)

You're my favorite dog trainer and really like your techniques and methods for dog training. But having Alpha Centauri as your helper is almost like cheating. Border collies are smarter than nearly all people. Ill bet Alpha Centauri has a doctors or law degree

Does anyone have suggestion if the dog is not interested in a frisbee? Lilli only wants to play fetch with wooden sticks, she does not accept anything else :D
