Wow! Excellent. The "tap" got mine to start up. Going to order this part, thank you so much for your help! UPDATE#1, as a bonus check I shorted the two wires that go into the part and the fridge fired up right away, so I know this is the issue. My part number was different but same idea. Part ordered! UPDATE#2, I tried a cheaper part, but it didn't help. I had to use the OEM part: Whirlpool 67003000 Control and it worked like a champ, but it did cost about $80. Thanks man, you really saved me!!!
Thank You so much for this. My husband fixed the fridge from our watching your well done video. We ordered parts from e replacement online (in Utah) we are so appreciative.

wtf- shouldn't the fridge have come on after you replace the thermostat? thank you for showing how to remove stuff. maybe the contracts were just bad so clean them first.
have old amana 20bl, second fridge in 3 months it's a used when I borrowed from my aunt and uncle, I try to whacking the thermostat like you did and nothing happened, then I decided to whack the compressor. the symptoms were lights coming on, but neither fan was spinning neither the compressor fan or condenser it's on the bottom, or the freezer fan that moves the air to the freezer to the refrigerator.
now the fan is turning at different speeds while I hear the compressor making a clicking sound like it's trying to start, I think that is start relay or overload correct? maybe bad compressor?
this is EXACTLY what was wrong with our freezer! I could tell my fridge wasn't out of refrigerant because it would still cool down, it just wasn't predictable. your note about tapping it led me to try that, so I did that every few hours until the new unit arrived. Swapped it out and it hasn't had an issue in about a month. I was SO close to buying a new fridge too - thank you so much!
Thank you for showing me around - this video will save me a lot of time in diagnosing a possible thermostat issue in our Amana unit. By the way, the location of the temperature control knobs in these freezers is problematic, because a tall food item on the top basket can accidentally touch that knob and spin it in one direction or the other while the user is opening or closing the drawer.
agreed. i originally thought that was my only problem, the unit had been adjusted down to 2 in the freezer by accident. since fixing the setting it's intermittent in exactly the way the video shows so i'm going to give a replacement a try.

No, Mike, because he had the power cord disconnected, as he should have! It came on after he plugged it in and adjusted the knobs.
thank you! you saved the content of my freezer !!
My amana refrigerator the compressor kicked on but just few seconds and kick off can you tell me what’s causing?
Most likely is the compressor relay
