  • One of the most common questions we get asked is about the alignment setting on the Driftworks Silvia S15 so we have put together this small video showing what alignment arms we use and the rough alignment settings. If you have any questions about this please let us know

    I have your front LCA's and when they're extended out my ARB drop links kink out and are not straight. How did you prevent this on these extended LCA's as i see your ARB drop links are vertically straight?

    New ad is sick! great editing job. I need to find a place that does those tyres too. Going through Toyo Proxies is painful, even though they're not that expensive, and i'm not even drifting (yet)

    So was just looking to correct the alignment on a driftcar our shop rewired because the alignment is horrendous. LR wheel is way toes in to where it was murder pushing it into our shop with 3 guys, it is bad. I was going to zero the toe out anyway but was going to have much more rear camber in my mind to where yours would be in the green even if you pulled up the factory specs. I understand the principle behind it and makes sense to me, are all these drift bros just running excessive rear camber for looks alone? I thought some of these guys were using camber to decrease the contact patch to make it easier to upset the rear, you are going for traction and contact patch to obtain a faster roadspeed while drifting im assuming?
    I have setup road race and drag cars/ street cars suspension before but never done a dedicated drift car before so I have been doing some reasearch to see what the other s14s had on their alignment sheets. This car has a 1UZ so not a ton of power but still plenty for what it is.

      Glad you enjoyed! Yeah a lot of people hold their cards close to their chests, but this recipe of parts just works so well we'll give all the help we can. I can't remember which ARB's they are off the top of my head. They are either standard or Dmax. We're big fans of ARB's. A lot of people remove them which we've never felt works.

    #askdriftworks Do the geomaster knuckles and other stuff used on the S15 help with building a car for grip aswell as drift? Alot of aftermarket suspension for Silvias are built to gain big lock for drifting and everything but do they help grip and make a car go faster around a track not just more sideways?

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  7 років тому +1

      They are specifically designed with Grip driving in mind. They have 2 completely separate lower arm & tie rod mountings on the front knuckles, 1 for the grip setting, 1 for drift & the rear knuckles are perfect for both.

    awesome video guys I've been looking for some alignment advise, curious on zero rear toe, what would rear toe in or out cause? I'm wondering if a little to in May give some forward bite, running a stock e36 225/4517 45psi looking to get some forward grip out of it,. cheers

    • @driftworks

      We would normally run a little toe in at that the rear for stability. This took a little hit at Rockingham and we've yet to correct it properly.

    It really doesn’t matter 17 or 18, it’s the tire size that determines clearance up front

    @driftworks what is 10 minutes toe out converted to MM ?? For the life of me can't find on the internet

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  4 роки тому +1

      It depends at what distance from the centreline of the wheel the measurement is taken. But presuming it's taken at roughly the diameter of the wheel/tyre you can aim for 2 or 3mm total toe out.

    Do the rear geomasters alter the angle off the driveshafts?

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  3 роки тому +1

      The driveshaft angle is determined by the height of the differential and the position of the wheel. Geomasters don't change that. They correct the suspension arm angles around the driveshaft.

    Should the rack still be moved forward with Geo 3's in trackmode?

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  7 років тому

      You should be fine. It depends on the rest of your setup. If you are using stock lower arms then you will have the lockstops

    • @21immy21
      @21immy21 7 років тому

      Stock lower arms, longer rods with your 3mm steering spacer/spring washer and Geo 3's in track mode. Fast road/grip track.
      Lockstops have to be cut off.
      I mean from a geometry point of view of what happens when turning, weather it's suggested moving rack forward or not.
      If not I'l just leave it.

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  7 років тому

      Rich ran the older generation Geomaster 2 knuckles without moving the rack foreward and standard lower arms and did not have any issues going over center (his car is just used for parking!)

      Yeah 20 will get you a deal I'm sure. Just check out who supplies your local taxi's with the cheapest Chinese tyres out there. Make sure you test a pair though as some are dogshit. Also don't be afraid of re-moulds, some are really surprisingly good, but there are different grades of remould, and again some are dogshit.

    Why toe out in the front and not toe in?

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  7 років тому +1

      Toe Out gives you more steering response compared toe in which can cause understeer issues

    • @gonzoe123
      @gonzoe123 7 років тому

      So for a grip driving setup, toe out is more desirable?

    • @joerikys
      @joerikys 7 років тому

      toe in is for straight line stability

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  7 років тому

      There are many factors to take into account, but when we run a full grip / track geometry on one of our BMW's or similar we would usually run a little toe out at the front, and toe in at the rear. Some people go crazy with it, but go too far and it'll really mess up the inside edge of your tyres.
