"How the hell... Am I gonna paint it?" I... I was wondering the exact same thing, man! What an absolutely HUGE project! REALLY looking forward to the next videos in this series!
when i do big painting projects. i call in the troops. call your friends. many hands make for light work . also use large brushes! but first. create a plan and a color pallete so you can keep them in line. step 1 this color. this brush. this technique. may i also making a few test pieces. that are like mini dioramas little 4 inchs or so. the failed prints that are kinda right. put em on a piece of the base . base it. get the legs. spray prime it and make a plan before you go ham on the big table
Instead of spackle or molding clay, both of which are brittle, I use this product for texture and terrain bases. It's a water-cleanable urethane which dries to a hard plastic in a few hours and it takes primer just like model plastic does. It's also got a very nice sanded texture right out of the bucket. It's available at most big-box home improvement centers (Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc) Drawback is that after it's cured, you can't smooth it with sandpaper. I've gotten around this by letting it firm up and then burnishing it with thin cardboard (cereal box). Your project is epic! Cheers! Henry brand "Patch N' Level 345" ( link not allowed )
Thank! I can't wait to get the colors on this! The paint booth was an Amazon unit. There is a video on it on my channel. The fan was a part of the unit.
When the gaming table becomes obsolete or has no more use you should turn into an Aquarium setup 😅 🤔 hmmm I wonder if Deepwars plans on Doing a Deep Space version?
Good to see you again! The styrofoam base, was it notched on the inside edges so it would hold together better? That was a great idea with the blowtorch! I'll try to remember that. Magnet's, what a great idea! Keeps everything together, but gives the option to change it up later. I keep pushing GM ATANK to incorporate them into his stuff, but... Well... He hasn't yet. I'm blown away with this build, and am on pins and needles for the next one.
Thanks a lot! This has been a very hard, but also very fun build. Trying to get it painted and finished as fast as i can but it's a bit overwhelming at the moment. Going well though.
Hey man, Enjoying your content! Great build! I have to ask.. your accent do you have Irish Parent(s)/Grandparent(s). Its just some words really sound like it.
Nice! K, has nothing to do with anything but where are you originally from? I swear, at any given moment, you sounded American, Canadian, Australian and/or Irish. lol
Just another game company trying to take my money. The game could be a space game or this underwater game, but it’s been done before, just Maybe not with these components and rules. Thanks, but I’ll pass and keep my money in my pocket. But you keep trying.
I miss playing those games so bad. Me and my friends would start on Friday afternoon and would plsy till Sunday evening. No sleep, lol. D&D was the shiznit
I may just be forgetting it in the video. but how did you like the dovov filament. I just saw it’s price on Amazon am considering buying some for my own big project
A Canadian tabletop channel? Count me in! Great idea on the magnet slots to connect everything together. Think you're gonna need to base coat the terrain without the base. Just go crazy with rattle cans or an air brush to get the main colour blocks in. Then bring the tunnels in after cos painting under with them installed would be a nightmare! Lookin forward to it!
This is amazing work! I can relate to spending a crazy amount of time on a particular detail here and there, but that much sculptamolding would just about end me I think :). Thanks for the video showing this epic project mate. Shawn.

I recommend alignment dowels between the MDF panels at the joints, and then maybe for aesthetic purposes, maybe acrylic resin/epoxy fill for the chasm, unless it's a playable area. You could use it to recreate a thermocline or halocline to illustrate the depth.
I thought hard about the epoxy in the chasm for a while, but that would cost me about $200 for the resin... this table is already costing a lot even with the sponsorship hahaha
Where the heck is this guy from? That accent is driving me crazy. Canadian, with some Aussie, and an I hearing Southern US in there? Stop it, you're messing with my head.
The game is a smaller scale skirmish games, (Space Hulk Style) tight corridors and stuff so mist of the game will be played inside the sunken citadel. The Citadel sits about 5" off the table top, so its not to bad for reaching over the cliff if you need. Also... this table was defiantly build more on the form side then function.
That is an awesome build very cool! Been using that Board for terrain from the time it was Wood fiber. And never have I seen Grey! That's swsome I'll have to find that.
love the hat. and as much as i love 3D printing, i would've made the main base pieces from scratch instead. much quicker and cheaper, and instead focused on things that are harder to make from scratch like the coral.
Personal recomendation, don't glue the legs to the table before painting. Instead, just make magnet inserts into the base, or in advance thin metal sheats into the tale base, so you can then put magnets intot he structures feet and then you can always pick them up or move them around and rearange stuff as you want later. Lets you keep your gaming table more varied and fund for longer to use.
I think the facility is going to cover up so much of the character of the board. The facility is almost like a second gaming table on top of your gaming table rather than a complement to it, some separated zones with tracks between outposts or similar to let people use the actual board and have verticality may end up better for gaming and aesthetic.
Boards like this are really a struggle between form and function... still haven't decided how I am going to attack the structure to the sea floor... if its going to be permanently affixed or not...
Are all those coral files from Antimatter games/Deep Wars as well? I can't find them on the Kickstarter, but I see the Blood Reef Grotto - Battle Board on their website seems to have a few of these maybe? Thank you very much, very enjoyable video!
How do you paint it? Rattle cans, mate. Many rattle cans. Followed up by washes and detail painting. Looks like a fun board. I would love to build something similar. If only I had a 3D printer and somewhere to put it. Good luck with that painting though.
Just use an air compressor. House paint in sample pots. Zero VOC acrylic/latex, dirt cheap, way way faster than every option. You can also change air pressure for gloss/matt/speckled. You can put 2 different paints in the cup without mixing them to get marble effects
One of the coolest builds I’ve seen by a content creator. Awesome work! You look exhausted a few times lol. You’re putting in the work and I think it will continue to pay off!
