Same. I came back home switched on the small tv next to my desk as the walked onto the stage and as Reflecktor built and built my head couldn’t stop itself turning to watch this performance. Then Hey Orpheus manifested - a transformative moment leading into Sprawl. I’d never seen or heard anything like it. Probably unrepeatable.
Ten years ago? I can't believe it! I thought this was pretty special at the time! Seems like only about four years ago! I still play it occasionally for its sheer fabulousness!
I never expected a song like this from Arcade Fire when it first came out. Has a great reminiscent feel to it. Love it!! Bowie's vocals is the perfect fit for this, "Thought you would bring me to the resurrector Turns out it was just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor).
This song (to me) is the anthem of the conscious youth of the world today, tomorrow & always, screaming out of disbelief & anger & hope of what is happening to their world around them & what is to come perhaps...class of 1968..I feel your feelings!
This was a great and dazzling opener from Arcade Fire, with Win looking magnificent, and slightly frightening. He has a great looming presence... (Yes, I know he's a big guy..)!
WARNING: Comments below are flooded with potentially toxic levels of stupid. Seriously, if you think this band isn't Canada's crown jewel in the music scene right now, please watch them live if you get a chance. Not in a video, actually go see the show. Your mind will be fucking BLOWN
Steveoqotsa Rush is an iconic band. But as far as "right now" in the music scene? By the way, crowns tend to have many precious jewels ;) Like Gordon Lightfoot, and You Can't Do That on Television!
J Perry Well lets see if this rabble are still giving me earache in 30-40 years time.....Rush are on another level,ok,maybe not "down wiv da kidz" but still selling out arenas & far more deserving of a Glasto headlining slot....i like Gordon Lightfoot as well btw...:-)
Rush and The Hip are the two jewels in Canada's rock crown. but I do love me some Arcade Fire as well. Shout-outs to The Guess Who/BTO and Chilliwack and April Wine and Steppenwolf and Glass Tiger and Honeymoon Suite and Loverboy and Triumph and 54-40 and Metric and Doug and the Slugs and, dare I say it (and I do), The Spoons. Let's not forget Anne Murray, Tommy Hunter, Leonard Cohen and Buffy St. Marie. National treasures, all. Nickelback, take a knee.
I genuinely thought I was at this Glastonbury until recently, but then remembered I watched it on TV after taking a 'heroic' dose of mushrooms, I was on that stage! I hadn't been to actual Glastonbury since 2007.
While Arcade Fire often shines live - Rebellion (Lies) or Power Out live are absolutely astounding live, here I feel like album version was kinda better. But it's understandable, original had perfect production and goddamn David Bowie.
Fifi A - The well recorded and well mixed and mastered music from the Eighties sounds WAY better than heavily limited and compressed contemporary music. I have several albums on both Vinyl and Digital formats (both lossy and lossless). Even when digitally mastered and mixed, many Vinyl formats are mastered without the excess of "Brickwall Limiting" that plagues most modern formats (see "Loudness Wars" for more info on the topic). Good vinyl (or high resolution tape, etc.) on a good system resolves more on the order of (the digital equivalent of) 700 Bits vs. the 16-24 Bits of commercially available digital formats, and that's excluding the very-noticeable signal-compression and ducking (signal-limiting) effect endemic to digital formats, unfortunately. Once your hear it it's hard to un-hear! Don't get me wrong, I still listen to plenty of digital music, but definitely prefer good Vinyl to Slammed Digital, any day.
I saw these guys about 9yrs ago or so now in a small venue at home. They swapped instruments and roles throughout the gig, do they still do that now? It was amazing at the time just after funeral was released, things look and sound abit different now!
Plus - did they show this warning stuff at the beginning of the show? You know, in order not to get epileptical attacks because of the screen in the background.
I kinda like those dance moves of the brass section..... They show real talent. Besides, is there some sort of conceptbehind the flashy clothes? Looks like, some one said, come on guys, we need to get really cool and colourful.... Just like U2 in the early 90s....
I knew nothing of Arcade Fire until I watched this set on TV. They absolutely blew me away, I’m very much a fan now.

I've done eight Glastonbury's and this is one of, if not my favourite performance. Loved every minute.
Arcade fucking fire..They're just out of this world.
You’re easily pleased, imagine if you heard reall good music!!
@@baliksupper6043 ? Tedious trolling
Will go down as one of the all time great Glastonbury performances. A decade on this band just get better and better!
Ten years ago? I can't believe it! I thought this was pretty special at the time! Seems like only about four years ago! I still play it occasionally for its sheer fabulousness!
This is my first time seeing what the band looks like, and all i can say is "fabulous"
You`re right my friend
I would actually pay for an HD copy of this set. How gorgeous is Regine?!
She's adorable and very talented.
Absolutely. And shes like Morticia- when she speaks French- OMG!
Terrible singer but she is cute tbf
You have a genuine point; I know this video is quite a few years old, but you'd expect the BBC uploads to have better quality than this
@@daaarrell15 her singing adds so much dont diss her 😤

Turns out it was just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor).
Imagine how extraordinarily wild it would have been if David Bowie popped out of nowhere at 4:28 and sang his part.
It wouldn't have been unlikely
@@odw_99 rest in peace I guess
That would’ve been BEAUTIFUL.
Projections make any thing possible nowadays ;)
Cool tune! Nice to see a band with more than 5 musicians on stage.
Not sure I'll ever tire of that song.

I got goosebumps the whole time while watching this
I just can't wait to see them in NYC this July
Best live band on the planet .. Seen them at Earl's Court ,,,, moist
2:35 gives me goosebumps!! In a good way!
One of the greatest songs ever produced
This was a great and dazzling opener from Arcade Fire, with Win looking magnificent, and slightly frightening. He has a great looming presence... (Yes, I know he's a big guy..)!
Omg LOVE the dancing Sax players!
If someone finds the iPhone record from that guy, please leave the link below this comment. Thanks.
They are amazing live!

Nickelback, take a knee.
I dream to witness them live someday.
I can see myself at the barrier. Amazing performance.
I watched this and fell in love with them ,best band in the world then , and now
Other than Bowie in 2000, this is the greatest performance I witnessed in the 35 years of attending Glastonbury Festival.
Hey I was there too at Bowie in 2000. Superb! Was 't at arcade fire but this look sgreat! :-)
This performance was just amaze balls!
Simplemente genial, esta banda, la frescura, la madurez...
Love that shot at 4:33, great camera angle!
Fucking BRILLIANT!!! Best band, live show, in the world by far!!!
I genuinely thought I was at this Glastonbury until recently, but then remembered I watched it on TV after taking a 'heroic' dose of mushrooms, I was on that stage! I hadn't been to actual Glastonbury since 2007.
Actually ,I was there for this and they were brilliant!!!!
It sounded way more awesome standing in the audience!
Check out the horns...totally enjoying themselves and putting on a bit of the FunkDance.... yeah...RokOn
That was funny😂 i enjoyed that! I could feel how much fun they were having
One of the best indie rock outros I have heard
The singing lets the song down, the bass is phenomenal... :)
Holy shit!! That blew my mind!
meu deus que música 💓
Tanto tempo e ainda venho aqui escutar.
While Arcade Fire often shines live - Rebellion (Lies) or Power Out live are absolutely astounding live, here I feel like album version was kinda better. But it's understandable, original had perfect production and goddamn David Bowie.
Amazing performance !!!!
I don't know what's going on, but I kinda like it
I need more songs like this
No HD BBC?
What year is this?
Lol
1980s
I have an HD version recorded live, off air. Blame the UA-cam upload for the poorer quality, not the Beeb.
REST EASY STARMAN.
Put Bowie, a Carnaval, Depeche, Dave Matthews Band, Pink Floyd and an orchestra into a blender: Boom! Aracde Fire!!
Incredible
caralho!!!! como eu amo essa musica!!!!
I love It, can see the Talking Heads influenced over here
Great their opening gladtonbury. WHEN I first to their music, hard to listen. BUT I,m into arcade fire
Hey BBC! We need an HD version... PLEASE!?
Merry Christmas from Japan :D
just beautiful. love it. xoxo
Awesome soundscape !
amazing set
I remember being there and the Mandy kicking in at this point
I love those eyes pants! Win needs to bring them back for Electric Blue! Would match Régine's blue jumpsuit.
HD would be nice...We are in 2014 !!!
I'd prefer a decent audio track too!
it gives an 80s/90s vibe its awesome...but yeah HD would also be awesome.

2024 now bro
Moc krasna pisen 😊❤
outstanding!!!
I wonder what happened to the guy whom Winn took phone
If people don't like arcade fire, they can get the fuck off these comments. It's the fans who should be commenting on their magnificence
This is one of the best openings at Glastonbury ever surely 🙌🫶👏
I like that guy's face after Win took his phone
so wished i was in that crowd, looked so amazing
Hardest thing to say:
How many people are in this band ?!
Not as many as Earth Wind & Fire. Back in the day it was like the whole audience was on stage Lol!!!
@Boy Freitag it's the best thing about them
7 members, the rest of them is the supporting band.
yes
Katarzyna Pałucka its not all about the numbers!
I like this song its very very armonic
Me encanta está canción
The sax dudes 😅👌💛
brazilian flag!! yay!! we know what's good music. Great performance!
I wish the full set was still available from somewhere!
Chloë Warren mega.co.nz/#F!7kw0BIYC!YwqZLEHBpmd0MaI7rxURqA
probably the coolest mugging ever, did the dude get his phone back
Exelente 👏👏👏
A song inspired by a piece from a book, that Win read, written by the danish philiosopher, Soren Kierkegaard, in the first part of the 1800th century.
The best 👌
HD in 2014: *exists*
BBC: I'm gonna end this man's whole career
It was HD on transmission. Don't judge from this UA-cam upload!
I saw these guys about 9yrs ago or so now in a small venue at home. They swapped instruments and roles throughout the gig, do they still do that now? It was amazing at the time just after funeral was released, things look and sound abit different now!
So looks like They worked hard for fame.
They still do,
My best music moment 2014
Regine is glorious
Bravo!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁🥁🎷🎹🎸🎤⚡️
Great!
My favourite part are the sax players: just VIBES DANCING AT THE BACK
I see, so Arcade Fire were hypnotising people with the background display. No wonder people thought this was an amazing performance
LOL.....
It was epic! You had to be there :)
But they look like U2 in their Achtung Baby phase... I don't know if this is good....
Actually, their best album still is 'Funeral' IMHO...
Where u there?
No, they did not let me in....
There is a surprising number of negative comments on this page.
Plus - did they show this warning stuff at the beginning of the show? You know, in order not to get epileptical attacks because of the screen in the background.
wiggylwogglywoo Because you do not want to be excluded from the arts....? Besides, I would not take any comment you read here too seriously....
Nice to see the 'Doctor' from Embarrassing Bodies' on Sax! LOl! ;)
This is my band!!!
This is so David Bowie. "Just a Reflektor".
Sérgio Jesus Yes, Bowie record the backing
5:05 magic moment
Amooo esa parte 😍 ¡¡¡
Those sax players :3
I kinda like those dance moves of the brass section..... They show real talent.

Mi presidente Boric en el saxo!!
Y que bien baila
😊😊

Groovy
We all got things to hide
So, what's that about the SG model only being for hard rock?
That dude just got his iPhone taken away haha
2:20 time to blow my mind...
Someday they will bring David Bowie on stage for this song...someday.
too late!
+Lara Swan :(
+Gary Hill I wish that would of happened, but unfortunately it will never happen, sad to say.
+Gary Hill they did the song wake up with him though :)
Yes that is right. Cheers.
10 years anniversary here. Who compresses the time?
Just Reflektor 1:56
Live from New York Its Saturday Night
Did the fan get the phone back?
Yes he threw it back to him, he wasn't very far to my left.
I wonder where that iPhone ended.
probably tossed it back in the general direction where he picked it up from - at least that's what he did in Berlin two months ago
he gave it back at the beginning of the next song
