She looks so sad. The problem of this performance is that Lana wasn't really comfortable. Lana likes to perform in places where people sing with her and she has a lot of support, but in this festival, there were a lot of people who don't even knew her or her songs. Her voice doesn't look as bad as some people say, in my opinion it's okay, but there were a lot of effects during the performances, something she never does and I don't why, she used them in this performance. It's also important to say that this performance was exactly the same day, her friend Bobby Womack died. It was obviously a sad day for Lana. I understand why she wasn't at 100% at the stage.

1. Having a nom de plume doesn't mean you are a fake person. Most entertainers and even poets/writers have invented their own names.
      2. Her dad was not a millionaire and did not get her into the industry. She entered a contest, did not win, and was noticed by a judge who helped her get her work out. She had been singing almost 10 years in bars and coffeehouses before that. No product. No deception.

He used to call me D.N.
    That stood for Deadly Nightshade
Cause I was filled with poison
But blessed with beauty and rage
    Jim told me that
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
    Jim brought me back
Reminded me of when we were kids
    With his ultraviolence
    Ultraviolence
    With his ultraviolence
    Ultraviolence
    I can hear sirens, sirens
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
    I can hear violins, violins
Give me all of that ultraviolence
He used to call me poison
    Cause i was poison ivy
I could have died right there
Cause Jim was right beside me
    Jim raised me up
He hurt me but it felt like true love
    Jim taught me that
    Loving him was never enough
    With his ultraviolence
    Ultraviolence
    With his ultraviolence
    Ultraviolence
    I can hear sirens, sirens
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
    I can hear violins, violins
Give me all of that ultraviolence
We could go back to New York
Cause loving you was really hard
We could go back to Woodstock
Where they dont know who we are
    Heaven is on earth
I would do anything for you, babe
    Blessed is this union
Crying tears of gold, like lemonade
I love you the first time, I love you the last time
Yo soy la princesa, comprende mis white lines
Cause I'm your jazz singer and you're my cult leader
I love you forever, I really love you forever
    With his ultraviolence
    Ultraviolence
    Ultraviolence

If anyone pays attention to the original song, they'd know the song has main vocals and is also heavy in back vocals. People keep saying her voice is "altered" in the studio version when it really isn't. The song just has a lot of back vocals/harmonies. It surely doesn't mean she can't sing live just because her live performances also have those back vocals. Also, those who are saying she can't sing compared to her studio versions: that's not true - she just takes very different twists on some songs and likes to play around with the vocals or even the mood of the entire song. Sometimes this sounds "bad" to people because it's simply different than the original. Regardless, she is an undeniable talent if you ask me.

The world is a long way from cottoning on to just who lana del rey is. i mean what a great song writer and musician she is and man haha what a great performer she is. and hey guys look at the quality of the musicians who perform with her lol they are amongst the best in the business. so what happens on that stage is meant to happen and yes SHE CAN SING LIVE and we are blesssed

There is no point in insulting her not-so-great vocals. Because she is already aware of it and she never suggested that she's got the best ones. She says "I'm a song-writer and a recording artist". I think her acceptance of own flows is also very artistic indeed. In the other hand, she sang live here but used recorded "back vocals". Which is, in my opinion, better than using "someone else's live back vocals". Even if its recorded, the fact that it is her voice used for recording, is so beautiful in its own way. She might not be real, maybe a fabricated concept, but some of us could really use that anyway, to take us away from the reality. Some of us do not believe the art should be based on life, but life based on art; where she says "life imitates art" in her Gods and Monsters.

    • @CakeForJack

But her whole 'fabricated concept' is that of the exact opposite. Her facade is that she's a down-to-earth musician slumming it and living life in the nitty-gritty but in reality she's just a rich daughter of very rich parents who has everything she could want. If her manufactured persona was that of something not the polar-opposite to her actual self then it might be more believable and less contrived.

    • @berquelly
      @berquelly 10 років тому +7

Perhaps her success is behind the talent of passing such emotions to the audience (believe me she does, including myself) when she "does not feel/experience them for herself" (according to your argument). Not defending her or anything, as neither her failure or success would make any difference in my life whatsoever. Just saying most people are aware what is going on with her, but loving her, her music and her art anyway :)

There will always, ALWAYS, be critics. In my opinion she seemed a little nervous and overwhelmed. Kinda like when she did "blue jeans" on SNL. Plus she hasn't performed this song a whole lot live. Add in this enormous crowd and you've got a pressure cooker of nerves. She's admitted many times before that she has stage fright and anxiety. But what I noticed more than all that was that she seemed like she was about to cry at points, so I think it may have been the emotions she was trying to hold back that caused her to get off track at points. Since this is the title track of the new album I would imagine it holds a special meaning for her. And if any of you are singers, you know singing a song that has a sentimental meaning for you can be VERY hard to do in front of others, much less a crowd this size. Singing while trying to fight back tears is hard. There were points in the performance that she was looking out at the clouds, and the storm rolling in, and you could tell she was caught up in a personal moment. For me, I'm a huge fan. Have been since "Born to Die" I love her because I love the music she creates. She's just different. And to people who say she's fake. EVERYONE in Hollywood is fake. I think she keeps it real much more than most others because of the kind of music she puts out. It was a risk. Her style is not IN style. If she was fake she'd be like Britney or Beyonce and make records to be played at a club for teens to dance to. She does music that SHE really loves, and it shows.

    • @keithbate9405

Agreed Carrie. Lana was really nervous in front of that huge crown and with the Camera's filming her. The cigarette was clearly to help calm her nerves. IF you look at her performance at carcassonne a couple of weeks later . you can see the difference. She can sing ,is hugely talented in the song writing /composing area. I think many females loath her because she is so beautiful and has a great body too. Personally I find her voice very soulful. She is vulnerable and she reminds me a little bit of Marilyn Monroe . I hope she avoids the fate of the latter .

Ultraviolence was the most iconic era ever. I didn’t think she could top the Born To Die/Paradise era but she did and my 17 year old ass was vibing 😍😫

She sang amazing in this I don’t get the comments? Also, It’s Lana Del Rey, we all know she’s a singer and her music speaks for itself she doesn’t need some stupid choreography she’s a *singer* and not every singer has to do choreography

i like how from 2:38, this part of the song really goes well with the scene shifting to the gray sky...i don't think anyone might understand, but there's just something that mixes well with how her key changes with the scene pointing to the overcast sky

She has improved A LOT with her voice. Her live acts a couple years ago were pretty mediocre. You can tell she has put a lot of work in the singing classes. Good for her. Love this album

You can clearly tell she was thrown off by the backing vocals. The backing vocals were wayy too loud and she usually doesn't even use them. I saw her perform Ultraviolence live twice (once before Glastonbury and the second time after Glastonbury) and she sounded amazing; she didn't use backing vocals in either one of the shows I saw her perform this song live.

She's hurting in this performance, a lot of people are saying negative things about her but this isn't a studio. Glastonbury is more than about just hitting notes, everything about this conveys emotion. I can't explain it, you just have to go to glasto and experience it first hand
