I’ve never been a fan of your music or the music you play, but man I respect you so much as a DJ. Your approach to music, how down to earth you are and taking the time to make these videos and the stuff you cover, it’s dead appreciated. I actually record mixes at home using the old method you used (I took the rubber bit off the earphone to still get bleed from the over ear headphones) so this was pretty cool to watch, especially seeing where you are now when it comes to using on ears!
It's so good to see pictures of Young Luke!!! It's always cool to see how DJs, their gear, and styles have evolved over the years. I would be very excited to watch an entire vlog about your evolution LL!!
I love how u shared tips n inside a DJ’s life w touring n gigs all in the same vid. LOVE IT!🙌🏻
I am SO looking forward to next week!! the In my mind vlog's are always amazing but a strictly techno one is a dream come true!! keep up the good work!!
In ear headphones are amazing! Been using them since I know you luke and they were pretty helpful when it comes to ear protection and keeping the focus on mixing - keep it up 🙌🏼
Laidback Luke, I cannot express how thankful us viewers are to have someone like you post these videos for us. They help out so so much! Please keep it up and get after it brotha!!!
Thanks for coming to Calgary Kuya Luke, one of the best shows I've seen! Can't wait for you to come back.
You're such an inspiration! Maybe a video on how you get collabs going with other artists?
Time for a newer comment on this video: Always a pleasure to listen to you Luke, your honest opinions always shine through your vlogs and I have followed you since early 2000s, you have been a true inspiration for me :)
I love your vlogs they have helped me with many things to improve, thank you , soon you have 200'000 subscribers 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I have to say bankewitz with you is probably my favourite song right now! Great video btw!
Hey Luke, loves this vlog as it gave me so much more excitement for my first gig at a night club tonight. What i would love to have as a vlog is getting over the hump of nerves for your first performance, and if it goes well how to keep getting booked. Much love L's UP!
Great Vlog as usual Luke! Looking forward to your next 'In My Mind' Vlog. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
great ep as always Luke. I use in ear headphones since coming out of retirement as well. I can go to a gig with my headphones and USB in my pocket but the biggest advantage is they protect my ears. My first gig back and a couple of other shows, i had no control to turn down the extremely loud fold back. So with the in ear, i could mix with them and even leave them in with the volume turned off while i wasn't mixing. My ears are my biggest asset and i need to protect them.
Thanks Luke for suggusting the Left / Right Split cue option on the Denon X1800. I had a feeling you had some input on that! You da Man!
I wish i could've been at marquee for that show much love from yyc you have been my favorite dj since I was a kid. I have learned so much from your style thanks cor being an inspiration
Show in Calgary was unreal! Thanks so much for the good vibes!
You are my big hero , I remember the first studio you had in your small room
Thanks so much Luke. If I ever get the guts, I'll be sure to keep all of your tips in mind! The discreet headphones seems pretty slick
Hey Luke. Is it possible that you could do a vlog where you do a set as if you were opening for another DJ? I think it would be really cool and informative
Looking forward to the in my mind techno set!
really appreciate this. Not being able to afford really good IEM i started hunting around for a musicians alternative, and came across isk who are known for mics, but not earphones so much. Theyd dropped the price to £35 because i guess they just weren't selling. from £80. 2m long wire, so ideal. I paired them with some comfyfoam plugs and the isolation is terrific. Didn't take me long to get used to it either. It was hearing aobut you using them first which put me onto them, and its so much nicer than working with earphones, and it means the audience levels can be whatever works in that environment, and i can have everything set for me. and protect my hearing. love your stuff!
Another class vlog Luke look forward to seeing you at Ministry next month! A scratching tutorial for beginners would be great 👌🏼
Same here, use a Denon MC 4000 gear! love the split cue, can practice in the home..
Another great vlog! Finally i got some answers for why you changed to beats in ear phones.
Great tips about the headphones! Will definitely try mixing with In-Ears
definetely this shows how happy you are, this love for the culture. All the love from Peru
Hey Luke Great video as always, sticking with the Mix aspect of music... can you make a panning tutorial?
I think its pretty cool that denon added that feature
bout time!!! ive been waiting for years on this answer lol!!
ANOTHER I'M MY MIND YAYYYYYY! LOVE YA LUKE
The set in DC was amazing! And it landed on my bday!
Hi Luke, could you talk more about mixdown? on how to do it and if is true that less is more!!
Wow...I have been using big old skool sized headphones when djing for 2 decades now and have been struggling with ringing in my ears after each gig. I have tried wearing ear filters, but it just doesn't feel right. After watching your video I ordered my new Beats Tour 2.5 Titanium headphones and they just arrived. Best headphones ever and you can jump around and they don't fall out (just like you said in your vlog). Also they 100% block out all sound around you so you can hear 100% of what you are listening to. Just ordered another 2 pairs as they are only £47 each and I want them everywhere I go (with backups). The cable looks really thick and durable also and love the 3 sets of ear inserts. Had to try them all to see which size fitted best :-)
Winning on a Saturday morning lol.
Thanks for sharing :-)
Traveled 2hrs to Calgary in that snow to come and see you. Just as awesome as the last time I saw you! (The guy with the DVBBS t-shirt)
I’m actually surprised you can mix so well on these. Now I want to try them!
Hey Luke, Ive become a huge fan over the years and have a lot of appreciation for your work. Are you planning on bringing out any Merch in the future ?
Thanks for the tips Luke!
I use the Pioneer DJE-2000-K in ear headphones, those are kinda of tricky to keep in, laidback luke thanks for the review and opinion on in ear headphones.
My question is answered! Thanks a lot for make it into a vlog. You are awesome!
I find foam tips (like the material from foam ear plugs) on IEMs to help with both sound dampening and keep them more secure in your ear so they won't fall out. I would usually keep an IEM w/foam tips in my pocket so if I head to a bar or club that has loud music, these would help.
I was front row in Calgary at Marquee!! I was in the Parental Advisory hoodie! I loved your set sososo much, i had an amazing night and I'm so glad I got to see you live fianlly! had to send my woman parts of your set on snachat because she couldnt be there sadly. I would have loved to stay for a picture after but I had to leave just as you finished! Keep up the amazing work!! P.L.U.R.
Your videos are amazing and there is always a lot to learn from them.
Can you please guide us about the Energy Levels of the songs with respect to its scale and BPM.And also give an example of the order in which you would arrange the songs in your set.
Thank You
could u do the next vlog on how to get ur first gig
Thanks for answering this question. It has been on my mind for sure. Happy Dayz
Thanks for the Techno in my mind, im realy looking forward to it ;D Great video like always!
Hey Luke i have few questions. How do you organize your music? How do you prepare your set? How do you memorize so many songs? Thanks
Great video luke
are you going to do a listening demos soon? really appreciate all the tips and advices you are giving :)
Love the Vlogs Luke , I was wondering if you have a plan for when you retire from DJing like perhaps do you see your self still working in the industry perhaps like a mentor to young up and coming artists or maybe something else out with the music industry ?
Hi Luke! Another fun, informative video! Thanks! What about bluetooth delay? Does that ever mess you up? I’ve been learning iOS music production and the bluetooth ones I’ve tried have too much delay for beat making!
Hey Luke! I would love to know your opinion on only producing music vs only DJ'ing. Do you feel like as a DJ you have to produce music to stay relevant and they go hand in hand? (I'm not a DJ, but I produce a lot of House). Love the vlogs, thanks!
You Are so close to 200k subs!!! Congrats!!! And will you do something special for 200k subs????
Luke please can you do a video about advice on sending mixes to clubs and club promoters!
Can you explain how you manage your social media? And in general how you manage that huge amount of fans!
Yes, how to build a fanbase in the digital age, and how to ask and *who* to ask for gigs.
There is no management involved, simply numbers on a computer screen.
Hey Luke,
So bummed I missed your show out in DC. I was very sick, but I'm sure you will return to perform here sometime in the near future.
Side note: Can you make a video about closing out a club? If not I totally understand because you probably do main sets only now, but if you can that would be awesome.
Thanks!
Love the the vlogs. Keep 'em coming!
Awesome vlog Luke :)
Ableton 10 live review!😊
Selecta “I can’t wait” is so dope
Wow over 20 years of experience in music! You are a legend man! I don’t even have one year of experience! XD. I love your vlogs Luke, they have helped me so much!
The last reason convinced me to use those as well :D
hey Luke, big question I have is when you use in-ears don't you find it blocks out alot of crowd noise? dont you find this important when checking to see crowd reaction to a certain record?
also in some venues the sound through their system may differ to what you hear in your in-ear monitors. for example a track may sound fine in your in-ears, but play out too/less bassy outside. how do you workaround this?
also, if you have promoters/managers/staff speak to you stuff whist playing dont you find it abit annoying to take the in-ears on/off?
these are the question I've been asking myself before investing in a good set of in-ear monitors :)
Can you a vlog about how you organize your music?
Janne Lahti yessssss
Great to hear the story of the development of using earphones Luke. I still use my Sony MDR-V700 headphones, do you remember them?
:Leon :Edwards I still have mine also. I use them when I pass rock. The rest of music a like more Tecnnics 1210. Only for my personal taste but they are both amazing.
Can you mix in clubs with the earphones in each ear and use the master cue and cue buttons to hear both tracks, or is the sound to overwhelming in clubs/festivals?
I use the Beats Mixr when DJing and producing, they're not bad and have lasted me 4 years so far. If David Guetta can get a partnership with Beats, you should too! Keep up the good work Luke, greetings from South Africa!
Sashlyn Pather you shouldnt use them for producing because they are everything but not linear or flat...
Hey Luke! One question: how do you deal with the earing pressure differential caused during flights? Doesn't it affect your earing in shows? I mean, if you play right after a flight, does it cause you any problem?
Woooo ayee soundcheck is the place 🤙🏼
Luke i am so excited to see you at ministry of sound on march! Would you play some old tunes of yours like “who is wearing the cap” ?;) By the way thanks for this vlog, it was so helpful!
I start DJ'ing when I was 13 years old and now I'm 23 years old. At the beginning I used "normal" headphones but then I start using the Shure SE425. And I think the sound is the best (Y)
benny2095 that’s because those have two drivers. There is another model above them 825 I think that has four drivers but those are like $800. Laidback Luke said he uses them in another video.
Check EZ they have 4 drivers and are only like 25 bucks and sound mint
It's called chi-fi
hi kuya luke, thanks for informative video. do you use in ear protection and in ear monitor both while you play?
Techno what's in my mind next week! Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!! Can you bring the vlog forward???
Hi Dj Laidback Luke. Thank you for the video. Please what specific steps do you use to mix when you are using In-Ear Monitors?
Hey Luke!
Great seeing you in DC at Soundcheck! Keep sharing the experience and I hope you enjoy the shirt!
Question:
Who/What inspires you to mix and make music?
I see the shirt at 6:05
Would you ever make an extended version of Rise, love it I heard it all the time.
Thank you!
Tito Luke! I'm a Filipino DJ, I learned a lot from your videos and I am using in ears headphones also and I really love it. Thank you very much!
see you playing in ensa sensation white was great
Luke, in every vlog you're travelling! Do you ever get some down time? How do you not burn out from all that travel?
Thats dj's job...travel all the time bcs of djing
Dont do drugs and alcohol..his body and soul are balanced
I'm sure his workouts help him out too. Plus you can tell he's a very disciplined guy!
Can't wait to see the next ''In my mind'' video!!! L's up!!!
love your videos Luke! How did you get noticed ?
Great advice at last for know Luke mate
Luke can you do a video about the Ableton Live 10 Please!!
Yaay thank you for answering my question!!
Luke! This video was so informative now I know how to set up my hardware but one question. Have you come across any good quality Bluetooth headphones? I have noticed that if you want to use Bluetooth headsets you need a signal transmitter from the decks/controller, but when you do that there is at least 2 seconds of lag. Any idea on how to get past this issue?
Thanks again for your continued support to the bedroom DJ ✌
hi laidback luke good recommendations thanks.
Luke, How about a Techno Producer Tips Video... Very Interested in how you go about this.
Your show in calgary was nucking futs mad respect my dude
your twitter was lit this week! lol
Thank You
Hi Luke. Do you ever get odd looks or comments when vlogging out in public and also what’s your take on drinking alcohol when DJing?
AJ
Thank you for all your vlog Luke I learned a lot from you..I just wanna ask from a professional DJ like you Is It ok to play a original or a remix version of song on a gig??? I'm just a small time dj and I always wondering about it I'm hoping that you answer my question..thank you luke...
In-ear headphones are much better than a big headphones commonly used by many DJ's, because sometimes the speakers in the club I used to gig was very loud that I almost hear nothing on my headphones, because my output of my controller was too low even the volume knob was turned all the way up. Then, I realize that my day-to-day in-ear headphones was a little bit louder than my bigger headphones, so instead of bringing the big one, I now always bring in-ear headphones in a gig. The only disadvantage of having an in-ear headphones, sometimes when I doing some tricks in DJ-ing (scratching, doubles, etc.) I always remove the headphones, and when I putting it back to my ears, sometimes the headphones itself gets tangled, so sometimes I missed a track when it gets to the first chorus or drop when I supposed to mix a second track. But still, in-ear headphones makes my life easy.
Love all your videos! More in my mind videos please! :D
Whats up Luke ? Guess you use other IEM now in 2023 ? I use Sennheiser HD25 on ear. But planing to test out the Shure SE215. Thoughts on them or anyone else ?
QUESTION: What was going through you’re head during your set at EDC Los Angeles back in 2010? With all the madness & people getting hurt?
I’ve tried to split cue with beat beats in-ears on a DJM about a year ago because I knew you did it and couldn’t get it right. It was hard to tell what was playing and what I was mixing into
Cool vid, Luke! I was wondering about the custom made ones- what kind where these? Groetjes
Luke, can You please make a playlist with you techno tracks? I would love to play them :D
Love watching your vlogs! I don't know if it's interesting for all of your viewers and I guess it's difficult to choose because you know a ton, but maybe you could do a vlog about your favorite clubs and/or festivals.
And btw I like to see the traveling in your vlogs! You could even make a whole vlog about all of your favorite places you have been to. Have a great weekend! :) _|mm|_
