Thanks for the video. Another tip don't forget your snap ring before you press in the hub
Thank you. I forgot the snap ring that goes in before pressing the hub on my e46. Had to pull it back out and put a new one in.
I have pressed a bearing in backwards, the bolt on ones are way easier. Good video 😊
I might have to replace my Yukon bearing assembly but boy is it relatively easy.
You guys are by far and away the best repair channel. Always good info
Thank you.
If I have a pressed bearing, to the shop it goes.
Replaced quite a few trailer bearings.
Your video on side mirror replacement really helped me out. Thanks!!!
Great tips. I don’t ever recall doing one of these bearings, but have an upcoming job.
One point you forgot to make which helps a lot is put the bearing in the freezer overnight to ease the installation process
Glad you're here to show us shade tree mechanics how not to do repairs ! Keep these videos coming !
Thank you!
Great vid 👍
Love the last one!! 😂
Good
You actually can use a hammer to install the bearing. You just need either a socket that's the exact size of the outer race or a scrap piece of 2x4. I've done both several times without issue.
Why don't all manufacturers use bolt on hubs? So much easier!
I use/touch a metal non magnetized flat tip screwdriver to the ring on the side of the bearing ( it will stick slightly to the bearing side that is magnetic ) then the magnetic part of the bearing side faces the a.b.s. sensor .You could buy a magnetic field tester card for a few dollars , but I find it unnecessary . Also watch a lot of UA-cam videos .
I once installed the bearing inside out. I didnt know until the abs light was on, the code was “installation error”, had to pull it out and do it again
I'm still waiting for an explanation of what was wrong with good old fashion tapered roller bearings that were used for decades. You know, the ones that would (usually) last the life of of a vehicle with no more maintenance than cleaning and repacking them when a brake job was done!
Biggest factor in longevity iv learned is proper torque for the axel nut. Over or under torque will kill a bearing fast... almost as fast as putting spacers + bigger tires on the truck...😅🤣
Can't seem to press them in without damaging the magnetic ring
I made all the mistakes you just mentioned, so the next time I bought the whole knuckle for $ 30.00 bucks more. Easy Peasy.
Most important one missing , angular race bearing need lug nut torque
I need to get the hub in without the middle of the bearing popping out this my third try
my 2 front wheel bearings are going bad at the same exact time rn 😂😂😂
Another mistake that mechanics make is they put the bearing on a magnet tray and it ruins the ABS magnet
That's why I just replace the whole hub / steering knuckle lol
Guy at work… (knows everything about everything), calls me over and asks for help getting wheel bearing back out of the hub. 😂😂 I asked him why would you not buy the entire assembly? “Because it was $300!” The bearing was $100. This was after he installed it wrong and had to make another trip to dealer. 😂 😂. Apparently he only buys this stuff from dealer. I understand Prius OEM hubs only but this was for a Corolla.
Never use compressed air on ball bearings. Don't spin new, dry ball bearings. Never hammer on ball bearings. Don't pack them with grease. They need to spin.
Petition to standardize Bolt on bearings 😂
and dont put the bearing in crooked
Who else is here watching after making one of these mistakes?? 😂😂
Dude, it is NOT cool to look over my shoulder and watch me install bearings without giving me a heads-up.
I HATE PRESSED IN BEARING. THIS IS STUPID TECH AND LOW TECH. WHY ARENT THESE THINGS BOLTED IN LIKE EVERY OTHER PART. THERE IS NO POINT OF NEEDING COMPLICATED PRESSED IN BEARINGS. There are better ways.
