  • So I've been riding with the Arai Corsair-X Pedrosa Samurai 2 helmet for a few weeks. What do I think about the helmet? Check out this video to find out.
    As I wasn't going to tear down the helmet after getting everything dialed in for my recording setup, here's a link to a video from Aria Americas for how to tear it down: • Arai Helmet Cleaning P...

    Good informative video. Thank you! I did not hear you mention the weight of the Arai Corsair X. I have the older version Corsair RX 7 large and it weights 1472g (3.245lbs) Many reviewers comment about the extra weight of the new Corsair X which could be an issue after a long day in the saddle.

    • @withPercy
      @withPercy  3 роки тому +2

      Man, that's a tough one. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. For me it would come down to fit, style, and graphic. That transition shield sounds interesting though. The only thing I'd like to tweak on my Corsair-X would be to have the pro-shade cover then entire visor.

    Coming from the original Defiant, I had high hopes that the Defiant-X would be another awesome helmet. But after watching this and knowing that the Corsair is Arai’s top of the line baby, the Corsair just looks mo’ betta lol
    What were some of the things you didn’t like about the D-X? I honestly can’t think of any negatives on my OG Defiant. I guess the only bummer would be getting new face shields.
    Here’s hoping to a fast 1k sub count!!!

    • @withPercy
      @withPercy  3 роки тому +1

      To be honest with you, the Defiant-X is a great helmet. As silly as it sounds, I got a little bored with the graphic. The graphic I wanted on the helmet at the time was not available to the US market. I really don’t have anything that would be a con on it. I’m sending it to my son to use (which will be a HUGE upgrade from his faux-DOT stickered skull bucket- LOL). I will say that the price difference is not that much between a Defiant-X with a graphic and a Corsair-X. And, of course, if you are a veteran or active duty military or law enforcement, you can get the helmet discounted at Revzilla, CycleGear, or Powersports. I got an $100 veteran discount at CycleGear on mine (but you have to make the purchase in the physical store to get that).

    Did you have to do any surgery on the helmet to get the JBL speaker wires to run to the cardo unit?
    Bad ass helmet Percy. You might have me switching from my RPHA to the Corsair.

    • @withPercy
      @withPercy  3 роки тому +2

      None at all. Simply remove the foam piece from the cutout for the speakers. The right speaker reaches the opposite easy enough. And I do think there is a difference between the 40mm and 45mm speakers as far as quality of sound. I bought the 45mm JBL speaker upgrade last Jan and have really enjoyed the upgrade. I should have just bought the Corsair-X last year when I bought the Defiant-X. People scared me off the Corsair by talking about how it's a racing helmet and not so much for cruising. I think that's a crock of bull.

    That’s a hella nice helmet setup. I feel like I’ve not found the perfect helmet as of yet. I also have stayed in the budget helmet range and not paid more that 250 for one either. We don’t have a cycle world close by to try on helmets and that’s what I really need to do.

    Great video and very useful details. I've been looking at getting this helmet but having a hard time on size. Unfortunately I live quite far from any gear shops that carry Arai helmets. I'm right under 59cm (22.8") so I'm in between M and L sizes, as you mentioned too. Not sure what combination of helmet and cheek pad size would be best. Awesome looking helmet!

    Hi I have been using an original Arai Quantum for 16 years. It is time to replace it, I am 59 mm also. The Quantum I have been using is a medium (label inside 5-7) and though it broke in it always felt tight (no give at all). No headache or anything but gripping my head. Would you recommend sticking with a medium or moving to a large? I also think I want a intermediate oval. Thanks.

    So - I know nothing about helmets and really had no idea you need to think about your head shape when you pick out your helmet. I'm relating this to running shoes (something I'm more familiar with). Some brands are made for people with narrow feet and others offer a roomier fit. I do appreciate that Arai designed the external mask to ensure the integrity and fit of the helmet is not compromised.

      I use Sugru to affix a standard base plate for my GoPro. The mount I use for the GoPro itself is the ball joint mount. I spent way too much money trying out cheap alternatives of just about everything out there. I finally landed on the ball joint and I've been using it for 2 years on 2 different helmets. Should have just spent the little extra and saved a lot of money. Here's a couple of Amazon links to that mount and the Sugru if you want to check it out:

    So the 45mm speakers actually fit without modifications to the helmet?

    • @withPercy

      That is correct. You just need to remove the padding that's there in the speaker cutouts. No worries at all.

  • @ericleeSupSayK
    @ericleeSupSayK 3 роки тому +1

    Looks like the cheek pads comes off with where the speakers is attached? So does that mean your speakers is just dangling when the cheek pads are off?
    I’m little confused, when you remove the cheek pads on the Shoei rf1200 and x-14, the speakers stays in place inside the helmet.

    • @withPercy
      @withPercy  3 роки тому

      The cheek pads actually have cutouts in them where the speakers go. So the speakers come out with the pads when you remove them. HTH

    • @ericleeSupSayK
      @ericleeSupSayK 3 роки тому +1

      @@withPercy That’s what I was getting at from your review, so basically you have to play with the wires every time you take the cheek pads out and put them back in.
      Thanks for confirming. I personally love the blue and red Pedrosa design.

    • @withPercy
      @withPercy  3 роки тому +1

      @@ericleeSupSayK I see what you're getting at. If you want to pull the pads all the way out, you just pull the cover back over the speaker pockets in the pads and take the speakers off the pads. Leave them there then pop them back into place when you replace the pads. The wiring all stays where it is in the helmet.

    I really struggle bad with Helmet sizing. It would really help me if you’d ever get the chance to film a video showing you putting on a brand new helmet, how hard is it to get on for you. For me I have a big nose and I have to put my bell on in a couple steps, unless I buy one that feels too big…like I have to put it halfway on and then pull the chin curtain back so my nose can get past it, then pull it further down.
    It might sound silly but recording yourself from a couple angles just putting your helmet on would be helpful for me to try and wise mine right because I can’t seem to easily put mine on unless I go up a size…which begs the question do I buy based on sizing feel when it’s on, or when I am putting it on…because I can’t seem to get both

    hey, I tried on a bunch of Arai's today in a bunch of different sizes. I tried on the signet x, quantum x, and regent. The signet (all of them were in a medium at best fit) fit best, but not snug enough for me. The crown was fine, but the cheeks were so loose I could fit 8 of fingers in there and still have room to wiggle. A size smaller wouldn't fit on my head. Im currently in an icon airform which fits me nothing less than perfect. The scorpion EXO R1 fit me amazing as well. not absolutely perfect, but by far the second best compared to my icon. Im really wanting an upgrade. I very much enjoy the scorpion, but I really want an Arai. I'm not sure why, but an Arai just seems like an awesome helmet to have. I also want as much customizable (open and closing) ventilation and as little noise as possible. Do you think the corsair x would fit me well? I do not believe ive tried on the defiant. I am open to buying thicker cheek pads, I just don't want to have to end up returning a helmet via mail, it is out of stock anywhere in store nearby.

    • @withPercy
      @withPercy  2 роки тому

      Arai makes great helmets but they do fit differently between models. I would hesitate to drop that much cash on something that I haven't been able to try on first. If everyone local is out of stock you might see if you can find one on Amazon since they have pretty easy return policies.

    Ok so I’m also a 59 cm head size and I got a large. This guy got a medium and it has me second guessing my purchase. He definitely has chunkier cheeks than me I have no idea how he fits a medium. I’m not trying to be mean I just need help understanding. Should I have also gotten a medium?

    • @withPercy
      @withPercy  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Vance. 59cm is right on the line between large and medium on this helmet. The Corsair X shell size is the same for med/large. It's just the pads that are different. I went with the medium because I knew that the pads would open up as I broke them in. If they didn't break in enough, my plan was to buy the large pads and swap them out. Which I have not needed to do.
      So I wouldn't worry about it if you're talking about a Corsair X. If the helmet gets to the point where it feels too loose for you, you can just order the medium pads and swap them out.
