Thank you for showing and sharing with us your personal used gear. Seeing how well the equipment held up during use and seeing how easy each product fit`s and stores is far better then seeing bright new shiny equipment that many adventure rider`s have store away in their closest collecting dust instead of dirt from trails. Ride Fast, Far, Forever.
Thanks Simon. Your Gear is very similar to the gear I wear for adventure riding in South Africa. I've got the exact same knee braces. According to me knee braces are as important as a helmet.
great video=. thanks. But one point is not clear: "only chest and back protector"? Does that mean you do NOT wear the Alpinestars layer with the elbow pads, etc.???
ASW Rally Jacket. I would recommend the Leatt 4.5 X-Flow now. ASW are Brazilian and not easy to find outside of Brazil or Portugal. The Leatt jacket is very similar but much easier to find 👌
@@BrakeMagazine Perfect, I had an eye on the Leatt 4.5 X-Flow. Any trouble with the weight of the bladder pulling the jacket towards the back and "strangling" you? Thanks for your reply
@@christophesuberville3840 RevZilla has the X-Flow on a decent sale. Such a happy little coincidence I came across that and your comment on the same day!
A far cry from the BMW Rally2 jacket you wore in the Race To Dakar video. I still wear mine for mostly road use, but with all the armour in them, they are heavy.
Just curious if there is a compromise of road abrasion protection vice impact protection given you mentioned wearing the same gear on your adventure bike? I am assuming you wear the same gear on road aswell?
This is a great question. It kinda depends on the type of riding. I wouldn't go road riding in this gear no. If I'm riding technical off-road ADV riding I would.
Great vid! Couple questions... have you tried the water tube system that ports into the helmet? I had what you had and found it was hard to get a free hand sometimes to grab a bit of water whereas if it were in the helmet I would have been drinking more. Also, do you think something like the Leatt 5.5 armor (full chest and sleeves) would be too heavy for you? Thanks
So wait?No upper body padding? Elbow/shoulder/back protection? Sort of looked like there some pads in the second "base layer" but maybe it is electric heating panels??
So the chest and back protector are in the armour but a lot of guys, including Simon don'e wear shoulder or elbow protection. It's compulsory to wear chest and back protection too.
what the hell brand of jacket is that? That's exactly what I want for the Trans America Trail trip i'm planning and better than my current leatt enduro option
@@BrakeMagazine thank you! Google's search engine send to hide stuff from smaller brands, especially foreign, so we're stuck with the same selection from big box stores only in our search results. I found it!
Simon personally wears nothing. For him it's a comfort thing. Having more freedom and less heat traps are important for a lot of riders off road. The chest and back protector are CE approved just a roost guard. They have to be under Dakar rules. Thanks for watching!
can you guys provide a list of gear in the video? that would be very helpful. Thank you

You're welcome
Simon Pavey’s Dakar ride was amazing and a well documented story in “Race to Dakar”
Hes done it 10x now..... that was 2006.
Thanks for the tips and gear guidance for the pro riders. Definitely a spot on article, respectfully done.
This video is Gold!
Glad it was helpful!

What jacket do you wear ?
Thanks Simon for sharing your experience in equipment choices for Adventure riding

Great Job Simon, good to share your experiences and keep us all on the right track.Regards R and Annie Lowseat.

This is very good info, many thanks, cheers.

@@christophesuberville3840 That's personal really. I don't find it a problem but some might.
Been a great jacket otherwise.

New subscriber here, great video. Do you have the link to that black alpinestars full upper body armor you are wearing?

He rides with that ce 1 back and chest he quickly showed. Doesn't like full armor cuz the weight.
what rally jacket is that? the mesh one at 5:15 it is so fly
It's made by Brazilian brand ASW.
White boots make a world of difference indeed!
White helmets too!
True!
What's the brand of the heated first layer? Never seen that before and after 4 rally trails it sounds perfect.
Another great video, brilliant. Does the knee protection system you use have to be made to measure, or is it off the shelf?. Thanks.
SCORPASRULE its off the shelf
thank you
Great seeing your dad, a true Dakar heavy weight.
Hope to see him do another Dakar
ps great channel

Got to be fast to wear gold! :D
Whats the model of that alpinestars jacket? I just can't find it anywhere and I've been looking for something like that for a long time!
Are you referring to the body armour jacket or the riding jacket?
@@BrakeMagazine the body armour jacket. I'm curious as well.
@@DonkeyDongDoug Alpinestars. I would recommend the Least Airflex now however. Amazing armour.
@@DonkeyDongDoug Alpinestars Bionic Plus
Dumb question, what about hip protection? He didnt mention any armor there, and I didn't see any bumps as if he had protection on?
what about neck brace?
there are dangerous, wouldn't use them as well.
Good one Si
Finally found this video, very informative, no dislike whatsoever :D
Thanks for watching!
The demonstration pretty much answer the question " how do they pee?"
@Lee Clarkson they have a catheter connected to an external bladder under the base layer
Could u please tell me the company that makes the rain/wind jacket? Cheers
This channel should have as many subscribers as the number of users on ADVRIDER.com!
How many is that? We'd love that!
Hey Simon, do you wear a neck brace?
He does not.
Which alpine stars armoured vest is that?
Gold tint for the goggles and gold boots only for the fast guy(s)
Hello, where could I find the wind/waterproof azure jacket? Thanks
Have u found it?
Is that all your torso protection?
Hi, can you tell us the brand of the rally jaket, looking to buy a similar one with the build in camel back and rear poket for the rain jaket
its alpinestars venture jacket
aswracing.com.br/categoria-domeujeito/moto/jaqueta/
what the hell brand of jacket is that? That's exactly what I want for the Trans America Trail trip i'm planning and better than my current leatt enduro option
The Brand is ASW. They're brazilian. They make good kit, at a good price but they also do custom rally jackets.
@@BrakeMagazine thank you! Google's search engine send to hide stuff from smaller brands, especially foreign, so we're stuck with the same selection from big box stores only in our search results. I found it!
Who don't you use any kind of airbag? Maybe that could save some lives like it happened unfortunately with Paulo.
You might be interested to know that airbags are going to be mandated for all riders for the next Dakar
So no neck brace then, I thought for sure.
Any reason why the pants are tucked in2 the boots?
So they don't catch on the footpegs. All mx style trousers are designed this way.
No neck brace?
The Neck Brace is a very personal piece of kit. Some people love them, so riders are required by their teams to wear them and some riders hate them.
Where can I buy that lightweight mesh outer jacket?? Been looking everywhere. Anyone know?
It's made by a company called ASW in Brazil. :)
Brake Magazine Thanks I'll take a look :)
What is the model name of the jacket
aswracing.com.br/categoria-domeujeito/moto/jaqueta/
So he just wears a roost guard under a desert jacket?, what does he use to protect his forearms and shoulders??.. Nothing I guess??..
Simon personally wears nothing. For him it's a comfort thing. Having more freedom and less heat traps are important for a lot of riders off road.
The chest and back protector are CE approved just a roost guard. They have to be under Dakar rules.

Well. He is actually wearing a alpinestars bodyarmor with certified protections under the roos guard.
How do you measure ambient temperature on a Dakar bike?
With a thermometer
A pocket of pharma is the base layer in my first aid kit.
Good informative video, shame about the camera work
neckbrace?
No.
what was that? DoCCAAARR LOL
Why do you have to be fastest riders wear gold tint lenses?
Because the look awesome!

they sock for sure
