I have only ever worn Arai helmets because the first time I had to buy a lid, Arai was just the best fit for my head and since then I never bothered trying anything else. I am currently on my fifth Arai, the new Quantic. As always it's super comfy but I agree with Brandon on the new visor latch: it's too fiddly.
I own five Arai. Corsair X CBR, Corsair X Nakasuga 2, XD-4 Africa Twin, XD-4 Vision and a VX-Pro Nicky 7. I love them all. Aside from my AGV K1 Jack Miller Phillip Island replica helmet, Arai is the only brand I’ll ride in.
I currently own a Shoei RF1200. It's very comfortable and I would have no problem buying another one. With that said, although I have "grown up" around/on motorcycles I am only recently learning of how high the Arai helmets are on the "helmet ladder". With all the high praise that is being given from many of the very best motorcycle riders/racers in the world this helmet likely needs to be a(the highest 🤔)high priority investment in my safety. Been enjoying my arai corsair x since 2018, my next helmet will be another arai possibly the corsair x again but with a paint scheme this time, rocking all white currently because i was living in the desert, but have since moved to NC. This is the the best helmet in my opinion, not noisy, very comfortable, premium materials, etc... when have went helmet shopping for the wife, man i hated trying on other helmets because i can instantly tell they feel cheap or inadequate because of the inner materials against my skin. Would like to see arai update to mips style liner possibly, but still use the same materials they use now though. Don't want mips if they cheap out on the liner.
Con of Arai helmets: no changes have been made I'd say it's a pro. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. How many times have we seen manifacturers changing stuff for the sake of changing, just to end up screwing up what was previously much better?
And yet your last point is what they did in my opinion. The rx7 corsair had (to me) a better visor lock, much better visor changing system and a better fit. I can't find a good fit with my X, even after twice having it custom fitted.
Arai is legit god tier they don't care about gimmicks they make best of the best take it from me I do alot of track day crash alot I trust no other brand arai wins hands doen.
Looking for a good lid for myself that is good on a naked bike- mt09. Coming off road glide and used a shoei rfsr. Not a lid for a naked bike. Over 70 lots of lift and just not comfortable
great - review. i have a SHOEI RF1400 and a Corsair X. Both very comfortable for daily riding and fit my head well. Biggest con for me is the liner never seems to snap back in as well as the SHOEI after fitting my communicator (Cardo Packtalk Bold) and yes, the shield is really finicky ..
@@KiwiMoto72 Agree on the Shoei RF1400. Shoei’s paint schemes are not as diverse as Arai, but man the quality and fitment is on point. A helmet has got to fit properly. It just for style.
I have a RX7RR4 haga rep and the new RX7V matte black with rear spoiler. Although I love the V I too do not like the complex lock system on the visor, preferring the old type on the RR4/5 But, I absolutely love Arai as the Medium fit is perfect, unlike AGV which I've had years before. I would not wear anything else but ARAI
People arguing over which helmet is best is just crazy.Everything depends mainly on your head shape and budget.I was once told if you have a $600 head get a $600 helmet!!
I like the fact that they prioritize safety but this is a racing helmet...opinions on if would look out of place on modern retro??? I was thinking because Arai's have a pretty round shape it's wouldn't look too racy??
Wind noise is a tricky/subjective subject and in general you can't transfer experience from helmet to helmet as there are too many factors involved: The height of the rider, the wind flow and protection of the bike - and as a consequence the model bike and the windshield it has and even the gap between neck and helmet - which could be determined by how you dress down to how thick your neck is.
@@nickthequick mmmkay, but some helmets have more inherent wind noise than others. it's not tricky at all. if i wear a helmet, under my particular circumstances... then i wear a different helmet under the same conditions... some helmets will have a higher wind noise. you wearing it versus me wearing it, the actual decibel level may be different, but the difference of wind noise between them will be similar regardless of conditions.
I love my Tatsuki....until I start hitting some speed. I ride two nakeds; A 2019 Tuono and a 2020 Street triple RS. at speed this helmet pushes right up to my face. just purchased bigger 30mm cheek pads in hopes to remedy this. Honestly if it didn't have this problem I'd say I enjoy it even more than my pista gp rr iridium.
Any experience with Shoei? I'm in the market to get a new lid (currently own a Shoei RF1200) was thinking of trying a Corsair X, or X-Fourteen. I also ride naked - Speed Triple.
I also purchased cheek pads 30 or 35mm (can't remember) for my arai corsair x and it made the fit perfect. Everyone has different face shapes and sizes so I felt that it's almost a given that it would require some fine tuning of the lads to make it just right for my individual face. Highly recommend
Doubling down on the Shoei RF1400 reference. Need a comparison. Review has no context unless you’re comparing it to other current helmets that are supposed to as good or better or as highly advertised.
Let me guess: you own and RF1400 and you're bothered by the fact that Arai is consistently considered the "best" brand because it's not what you own ...
@@nickthequick close. I just bought one because I’ve never had a Shoei and (mostly) due to the fact that almost all arai’s in my size are back ordered for months. I haven’t ridden with it yet and wondered if I should return or sell it and stick with Arai. I have an XD-4 and an older signet q. The XD is loud and a bit much as a daily and the Q just looks/feels massive (yes my head fits that description too but the Shoei doesn’t seem to look or feel that way…). The only thing Arai has going for it anymore are the graphics. I have a Nicky 7, & Tatsuki replica, but short of having to have those graphics I wouldn't recommend it. For me, it's definitely not worth the $1000 price tag. Will I pay more for a handmade Japanese helmet? Sure, but my RF-1400 cost half as much and is a better helmet in every regard.
"quality checking" 1 in ten helmets is not a sign of quality. Quality can not be "inspected into" a product. It can only be built in with fool-proof processes. You can audit the process and risk asses the possibility of failures, but inspecting one in 10 products is either bullshit or a lack of confidence. What would you inspect anyway? The outer shell? What would that tell you? Perhaps you could completely disassemble the product, but then you've destroyed it, which is expensive. Its not what a Japanese company would do, so I'm calling bullshit on the 1 in 10. Before you ask:- Yes I am a Manufacturing Engineer and a Quality Engineer.

You see the brow vents when on tuck position because the helmet is too large for you, thus you eyes sit too high in the eye-port.

Those brow vents break all the time 🤦🏻♂️ I HATE that. With the helmet being so high quality I really don’t get how this can still by on the helmet.
