My grandpa used to dress up as cat in the hat for Halloween complete with face paint. Looking back on it he looked terrifying. An employee at my old elementary school also dressed as the cat for read across America week. The costume looked better, but everyone could easily tell it was her.
I'm a child of the 2000s. I was born the same year as Mike Myers Cat in the Hat. It's one of my favourite movies. I quote it on a daily basis. I just can't bring myself to hate it ♥️
OMG you mentioned In Search of Dr. Seuss!! I got a VHS boxset at some point as a kid that had that movie, Daisy-Head Maisy, and The Butter Battle Book, and it was the only one of the three movies that I have kept into adulthood. It’s a fever dream of a special, and it always felt a little ominous to me - like they were gonna walk around a corner and Dr. Seuss would be standing there and tell everyone off. The radio that talks about WWII scared the crap out of me as a little kid. I never realized the cast was so insanely star studded! No one else I’ve met has ever seen it. I had to call my mom and tell her you talked about it because I got so excited.
There's an appearance of the Cat in Jingle All the Way, during the parade sequence. It may be the same costume that we saw in the real life Thanksgiving parade, but it was an on-screen appearance in one of the costumes.
6:24 Hey, editor! So, Dan is talking about this thing about how Dr. Suess had a wife but then ended up getting together with someone else. But how I heard it was that he had a wife and then got together with some other chick behind her back but Mrs. Suess stayed faithful even after she found out about it.
tthe funny thing about the cat in the hat comes back Dan, it literally opens with the cat showing up, them telling him to go away, and him saying HAHA good joke
The 1997 Cat in the Hat costume was used in the parade scenes in the movie "Jingle All The Way." Along side Paddington Bear, Sonic the Hedgehog, Crayola Crayons, a Smurf, Gumby, Raggedy Ann, a Cabbage Patch Kid, and so on.
Thank you SO much for bringing up “In search of Dr Seuss” it’s one of my childhood favorites and believe it or not, I still watch it almost annually. I love it so much that one Christmas (as a full grown adult) I told everyone I didn’t want gifts, I just needed to find a dvd copy of that special! I was thrilled to open that box on Christmas Day!!
3:20 One small correction, it wasn’t Warner Bros, it was a studio made up of ex Looney Tunes crew called DePatie Freleng, they did the Pink Panther cartoons
I haven't heard of "The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss" in years, man. That was my childhood Edit: i remember seeing Suessical as a kid and eating cookies shaped like the Cat's hat and a truffula tree, then getting sick to my stomach after the show
OH MY GOD I actually remember one of my cousins owning the DVD but then we lost it. Then a few years after that me and my cousin watched the show on Apple TV lmao
The Cat in the Hat movie is a childhood (and modern day) favorite of mine. The humor and jokes are so damn funny and Mike Meyers is just so good. Also that set design is incredible.
I love The Cat in the Hat Mike Myers was in it, the movie is so dang hilarious. Also, I watched the Wubblous world of Dr. Seuss so many times when I was growing up and it gave like a muppets vibe, and fan of it. Thank you for making this video, Dan!

You mentioned before you're basically a Santa in training, so you can play him when you're elderly. I think you can play him NOW! Whether as a voice-over, on-screen talent, or live performance. You already have a jovial demeanor which brings happiness to all!!
I loved Dr Seuss books as a kid and grew up with In Search Of Dr Seuss on VHS. So glad it got a mention! It was my introduction to so many of his stories and the opening song is in my head to this day. I think it's on UA-cam for free now.
I met the Cat in the Hat at Islands of Adventure in Universal Orlando back in 2022, but it was a social distance meet and greet. BTW, I think you'd be perfect for Seussical! 👌🏻
Dan, my man, you had a copy of The Cat in the Hat Comes Back on your desk! You have no excuse not to know about the Little Cats. XD For the record, I actually watched that Travel documentary about the Macy's parade the night before the video went up. Gotta love how blunt they are about what the parade is for. It's that kind of honesty I still wish existed in corporate America. Like, they straight up confess the parade was originally meant to run Gimbel's out'a business. Ruthless!
I went to a car museum that has the Cat in the Hat's S.L.O.W. car from the movie on display and next to it they have the Cat in the Hat costume Mike Meyers wore on on set in a glass case which I've always found very funny but also kind of disturbing 😂
Our elementary school librarians dressed up as thing 1 and thing 2 for Halloween in 2003, and they panted their faces and used flesh tone modeling clay for the nose to get the accurate scaryness of how they looked in the film.
The 1973 Cat in the Hat animated film (along side the Sneetches and Green Eggs and Ham animated films) were a huge part of my childhood. Heck, I think I still have my VHS copy of Cat in the Hat in my possession to this day. Also, I think I have the exact same Cat in the Head costume that Dan is wearing. Only mine has a headsock/hood with ears to go along with it. Love it.
You forgot to talk about the Cat in the Hat that was in Jingle All the Way movie and the Cat in the Hat what was used in the commercial for Seuss Landings of the Island of Adventure mentioning "Are You Ready?".
If you haven't, could you please do the evolutions for the care bears, cabbage patch kids, and hello kitty ? ( i came across yt footage of an older macys parade and the cabbage patch kids had some creepy costume villians in that)
6:17 Dan would be referring to Dr. Seuss' personal love life, where he married a woman, she then got sick, then he dumped her then married another woman a few days before his last wife died. Yeah, kind of a messed up guy lol
I love Cat in The Hat Dan! Cat came to my library every year in elementary school and we got him to come from Universal Studios Florida because of our Read Across America Grant my Texas School got where in the program, our school signed up to get a visit from Cat In The Hat during Read Across America Week in the early 2000’s!
Love the video Dan I am a HUGE Dr. Seuss fan. I'm not sure if I am one of the biggest or maybe I am who knows. In Search Of Dr. Seuss is a classic and gave me some amazing insight into the life of Dr. Seuss. The animated cartoon is a timeless treasure that I still enjoy to this day and will even quote it here and there. Seussical I was 10 years old when it came out and I loved it and even performed in it twice for different companies once as a Who and another as The Grinch, tried to get The Cat In The Hat but no luck in landing the role. I even went to my old Elementary School dressed as The Cat, I read books, did music, taught kids about Dr. Seuss it was a fun time. Suess Landing in Universal is amazing and honestly I don't see what's so scary about the ride its quirky, fun, and charming but your opinions yours. I was at the Thanksgiving Day parade in 97 I did see the balloon but his hat was already deflated, wasn't sure what happened till much later but as a kid all you care about is seeing your favorite characters. Now that movie....I HATE HATE HATE with a burning passion, I hate it as much as the Grinch hated Christmas. I didn't think the humor was good, the plot was good, the unneeded adult and raunchy jokes....but again I digress...I don't like it but if you do great more power to you. Have to say though I love that mask with a moveable jaw.
The Cat in the Hat did appear in the Kids for Character video in 1996 with other characters from Gullah Gullah Island, The Puzzle Place, Lamb Chop's Play Along. Barney & Friends, Babar, Garfield, Ronald McDonald, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Spot, Scooby Doo, Thomas the Tank Engine, Woody Woodpecker, Madeline, Peter Rabbit, and many others in universal Studios.
I never heard Seussical until I was an adult, but it hit me very deep emotionally, so I loved it. but i'm a fan of dr. seuss books in general and musicals in general.
My favorite memory of the Cat in the Hat ride is my friends and I acting like it was a thrill ride because it was Grad Night and all the other roller coasters had long lines
I can’t believe you still didn’t take about the Disney costume with the most interesting history yet; The Wuzzles! At one point the costumes were auctioned off to a collector, who then sold them to a costume house in Hollywood which was a nightmare for Disney, because the character costumes were now rented by any production team to be used in their shows, movies, TV commercials etc as generic costumes lol So they were popping everywhere for a couple of decades. Not to mentioned that even though the show was short lived, they still made many versions of the costumes in a really short period of time.
I remember read across America!! I had teachers who always dressed up every year. It was a fun day full of activities. We even had green eggs and ham ❤ Also I’ve been on that ride, not my favorite 😂 Maybe some updates but yes 😂 I do remember too when at my high school they did the musical, I did go to an artistic school after all! And the Mike Meyers movie was ridiculous but I loved it, even watched it a few times drunk, it’s an experience 😂
This is cool! For another costume evolution, can you do one of the Wicked Witch of the West and one of Glinda the Good Witch? That would be.awesome to see!
Dan! I’m having a rough time over here (cold season am I right) and I’m binging your videos, and I’m so happy that this one came out! Can you do a deep dive into the Minnie Mouse thanksgiving day parade please! Please!!
I know Wait In The Wings has a history video on Seussical and what went wrong in the beginning and how they revamped it. I'd recommend you check it out. P.S. I think Dan would do well in the Cat in the Hat role.
Don't forget Mason Adams (who voiced the Cat in 1982's "The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat"), Bruce Lanoil (the original puppeteer for the Cat in "The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss" before Martin took over) and Henry Gibson (who voiced the Cat in "Daisy-Head Mayzie").
I toured as the Cat and the Grinch among other characters for a Dr. Seuss carnival act that had its last hurrah during the recent SAG strikes, for some reason due to that very last point it was my Equity debut on the same topic. The heads of all the costumes were actual hell on earth to have tethered to your shoulders and for some reason corporate also wanted us to do voices based on the PBS show. You will be really surprised to see just how many Seuss characters Costume Specialists just straight up imported from Seuss Landing! Absolute waste of talent making all those suits and props just to run out of budget to actually care for any of it...
The live action movie came out the year I was born. Severely traumatized me as a kid lol, but I was obsessed with the PS2 game. It was extremely hard my mom couldn't even finish it 😂😅
The ride is definitely a little outdated, but I love it charm and I don’t think it’s scary🙂. Maybe Universal should put a little bit more love into this land but other than that I’m good 🙂. But this video was whacky can be, it’s Whacky , fun and informative, can’t you see. Macys, universal, puppets and more. It’s a Costume Evolution Galore
A long while ago there was the Dr. Seuss experience in Toronto, Canada and there was a giant Cat in the Hat animatronic and it would talk to people and my mom said to me “ Do you have any questions you want to ask the Cat in the Hat” I said “ No” and the animatronic said to me “ are you sure?” and I said “ no” and he copied me and it went back and forth untill I broke out laughing and we both laughed I also remember a Lorax costume
My grandpa used to dress up as cat in the hat for Halloween complete with face paint. Looking back on it he looked terrifying.
An employee at my old elementary school also dressed as the cat for read across America week. The costume looked better, but everyone could easily tell it was her.
LOL
Yo, I like your videos! :o
That’s cool Nathan
Awesome to hear!
You had Cat In The Hat, I had Franklin Turtle
I'm a child of the 2000s. I was born the same year as Mike Myers Cat in the Hat. It's one of my favourite movies. I quote it on a daily basis. I just can't bring myself to hate it ♥️
Looking back it’s bad. But it’s a fun time.
OMG you mentioned In Search of Dr. Seuss!! No one else I’ve met has ever seen it. I had to call my mom and tell her you talked about it because I got so excited.
That special turned 30 this year.
Dan, this is my nightmare fuel! The animatronic version at Universal Studios, the puppets, and the live-action movie freaks me out!
The rhyming Dan nailed so good! I hope Dan does more nintendo mascots because theres been a ton of Luigi ones over the years.
I have In Search of Dr Seuss on vhs! Absolutely love it!
19:35 Me lying to my grandma on thanksgiving as she serves me her bean casserole
OMG THE WUBBULOUS WORLD OF DR. SEUSS 😭🥰 my childhood
The muppet cat looks so cool
There's an appearance of the Cat in Jingle All the Way, during the parade sequence. It may be the same costume that we saw in the real life Thanksgiving parade, but it was an on-screen appearance in one of the costumes.
Yeah’ same one!
6:24
Hey, editor! So, Dan is talking about this thing about how Dr. Suess had a wife but then ended up getting together with someone else. But how I heard it was that he had a wife and then got together with some other chick behind her back but Mrs. Suess stayed faithful even after she found out about it.
What’s funny is that the cat in the hat is such a tongue twister sometimes. Like I once accidentally said hat in the cat!😂😂😭😂
tthe funny thing about the cat in the hat comes back Dan, it literally opens with the cat showing up, them telling him to go away, and him saying HAHA good joke
17:34 oh my gosh I completely forgot about this musical! My junior high did it and I helped make the sets and props for it!
I'm the cat in the hat in a costume, how about that? this video will be a treat, right up Disney Dan street! (Wooo!)
The 1997 Cat in the Hat costume was used in the parade scenes in the movie "Jingle All The Way."
Along side Paddington Bear, Sonic the Hedgehog, Crayola Crayons, a Smurf, Gumby, Raggedy Ann, a Cabbage Patch Kid, and so on.
I love Mike Myers Cat. It's so quotable lol
Thank you SO much for bringing up “In search of Dr Seuss” it’s one of my childhood favorites and believe it or not, I still watch it almost annually. Dont forget about the special features on the Cat in the Hat dvd where you could learn to DANCE like the Cat. Its phenomenal. Highly recommend.
The Cat in the Hat is one of my favourite childhood movies. I don’t understand how people can hate it, it’s hilarious 😂
I haven't heard of "The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss" in years, man. That was my childhood
Edit: i remember seeing Suessical as a kid and eating cookies shaped like the Cat's hat and a truffula tree, then getting sick to my stomach after the show
I love the wubbulous world of Dr Seuss it’s underrated
Is it worth it before Grinchmas?
OH MY GOD I actually remember one of my cousins owning the DVD but then we lost it. Then a few years after that me and my cousin watched the show on Apple TV lmao
I love that show! I watched it so many times as a child 😊
I still have the Wubblous world of Dr. Seuss's vhs tape.
Another job well done Disney Dan, my distory historian
The Cat in the Hat movie is a childhood (and modern day) favorite of mine. The humor and jokes are so damn funny and Mike Meyers is just so good. Also that set design is incredible.

15:43 That's "If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it", taken literally for this costume.
Aw, he didn't mention when Martin Short did the cat in the hat cartoon on PBS Kids, that show was my childhood!
Loved the story, loved the tv special and I loved the pbs tv show!
10:53 - I think it was also used in Kids for Character.
15:35 The 1999 Cat In The Hat walk-around costume is cute. 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈
Ah, yes. 1997. The macy’s thanksgiving day parade balloon massacre.
Dan better pin this comment now
I was hoping you were going to mention the movie.
You did not disappoint.
You mentioned before you're basically a Santa in training, so you can play him when you're elderly. I think you can play him NOW! Whether as a voice-over, on-screen talent, or live performance. You already have a jovial demeanor which brings happiness to all!!
Please do Donkey Kong now. I've been waiting for this my entire life and you also teased it.
It’s coming just waiting for Universal to debut the new outfit!
@@DistoryDan Alright then
Honestly I don't think there is much, if any, of a costume history for DK...is there?
11:24 The small bit of Twin Peaks music gave me life.
0:04
Dude is spittin’ bars!
4:36 to be fair, if i was a man THAT handsome, i would def want my face in the newspaper lmaooo

My high school did Suessical when I was there and my mom was in charge of the costumes.
I remember doing a Seuss-ified version of Romeo and Juliet for a comedy camp at my local theater. It was kinda weird and whimsical and so much fun!
On the ride, it was so scary to see thing one and two run out of the box that got me
Dan, my man, you had a copy of The Cat in the Hat Comes Back on your desk! You have no excuse not to know about the Little Cats. XD
For the record, I actually watched that Travel documentary about the Macy's parade the night before the video went up. Gotta love how blunt they are about what the parade is for. Been in Seussical 3 times- all as Sour Kangaroo, HUMPH! 💜
This was an awesome episode!!

The Cat is HAUNTING

I love your channel Disney Dan. Good energy

That cat mask is nightmare fuel
The cat is so freaky, I was terrified of him as a kid, and I still am 😂
Can you please do a evolution video about Zoboomafoo? He's my biggest piece of nostalgia.
Homer Simpson cosplaying as the Cat in the Hat in that Treehouse of Horror segment the Cad In The Hat was so disconcerting by how he was drawn
Godzilla evolution in the near future please? My boy just turned 70 on November 3rd.

Yo Dan, you would make a spectacular Lorax, just saying.
I’m currently in rehearsals for serial right now I’m a wickersham brother this was a great video to watch to get ready
Still remember when a teacher from my elementary school would read the cat in the hat book and be dress like him.
I knew some people would get the “dressed like a principal” joke
You forgot the cat in the hat knows a lot about that
The Cat in the Hat did appear in the Kids for Character video in 1996 with other characters from Gullah Gullah Island, The Puzzle Place, Lamb Chop's Play Along. Barney & Friends, Babar, Garfield, Ronald McDonald, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Spot, Scooby Doo, Thomas the Tank Engine, Woody Woodpecker, Madeline, Peter Rabbit, and many others in universal Studios.

He's known as the king of Dr. Suess.
Enough with mean language, but amazing videos of so many of our favorite characters!
This is art
I like this storybook.
Alan Sherman has become an iconic voice for the Cat in the Hat. Along with Martin Short, Martin P. Robinson and dare we say? Mike Myers.
Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat Love my favorite one fan BIG Book 📚 Dolls 💖💖💖💖💖🎶
The live action cat in the hat movie still gives me nightmares
No, it’s goated.
You are all weirdos
I do remember my teachers dressing up as cat in the hat for Dr. Seuss day
You missed the Kids In The Hall Cat In The Hat.
i love the cat in the hat too!!! :)
Definitely do a video on the evolution of ash Ketchum? Pokemon has been around a long time and his look has changed over a decade.
I toured as the Cat and the Grinch among other characters for a Dr. Seuss carnival act that had its last hurrah during the recent SAG strikes, for some reason due to that very last point it was my Equity debut on the same topic. Do a Sam-I-am one, for Green eggs and ham!
I’m surprised Dan didn’t cover the cat costume puppet from the islands of adventure VHS commercial.
Cat in the Hat in Seussical is a huge dream role.
The live action movie came out the year I was born. Severely traumatized me as a kid lol, but I was obsessed with the PS2 game. It was extremely hard my mom couldn't even finish it 😂😅
My husband and his family were at the parade the year of the Catssacre. It was decidedly not great!
15:49 Did that bloke just do Kamen Rider Amazon's "tomodachi" (friend) sign? Fair play mate, that's niche even by my standards!
I did a Dan laugh on the thing 1 thing 2 zoom in. Its infectious
Well now I want a Macy's parade balloon evolution video.
So is the Lorax next for the Seuss Costume Evolution series?
The ride is definitely a little outdated, but I love it charm and I don’t think it’s scary🙂. Maybe Universal should put a little bit more love into this land but other than that I’m good 🙂.
