Wiley, created his own sound. He actually produced alot of the old skool beats that he and other Grime artists used when Grime came up. He called the sound Eskimo because it was more emotive than Garage and produced the sound under EskiBeats. But around the same time alot of others started making and developing the Grime sound. Dizzy make alot of his first beats while in school for some of his best known hits. A fair few old skool Grime was made on the Play Station 2, before people started getting their hands on FL Studio. The development of Garage to Grime to Dubstep and all the sounds in between is really expansive, but worth learning. There's alot of history there.
this is called Eskimo basically wileys own sound at 140bpm wats called grime today. alot of older grime beats were totally different to wat u hear nowa days grime is mixed with drill and it takes away that unique sound grime had which is sad. as i said bro go on grime librarian on youtube and you we see what I mean glad u finally done this song though 😊
Those times Wiley was in a crew called Pay As You Go crew - this was a garage based crew and was getting booked by UK garage promotions like Garage Nation, La Cosa Nostra, Sidewinder etc. There was a major 'crew' phase where groups of DJs and MCs would join in collectives for either radio sets or rave bookings. It changed the focus from just the DJ and a basic hosting MC to a more MC focused, aggressive scene. In around 2002 Pay As You Go clashed Heartless Crew (Mighty Moe and Fonti are in the video) and the scene started to split. There was a lot of dark DIY productions getting released by guys who were calling it '8 bar' or 'sublow' and Wiley took his opportunity to move away from promoters who were favouring the UK garage fraternity and ignoring the upstart crews. Like I said in another comment guns were starting to become a feature in the UK at the time and the music (and spaces where the music was played) reflected that. Wiley jumped ship and essentially started grime - he had major support from Sidewinder still and eventually set up his own promotion Eskimo Dance. Long story.
👏🏾I actually agree with this!! My first raves were garage raves, sidewinder, sun city , exposure etc and that clash (Pay as u go v Heartless) and when Wiley made that war dub for them was like an example of when it changed from garage to .. Don't wanna say grime but.. Grime lol
man this was the wiley i loved, new wiley mmmmhh okayish, this was the time when pay as you go, heartless crew, so solid crew, just to say so solid crew was smashin it b4 wiley
wiley was one of the founders of grime.. hence what you call it.. and you say the tempo.. all grime is the same tempo.. 140bpm every grime tune.. love your videos
Eskimo or Eski is Wiley's name for his style at the time which was different to anything at the time.So solid were doing there thing and eventually it came around to be called Grime
You talk a lot of sense for someone who's just started listening to grime most of the stuff you guess about is very accurate swell, a lot better then most of these new grime fans and actually appreciating where it came from.
If you've not watched it already watch Top Boy, its a UK produced TV series which is based on UK, specifically London, street culture. If I remember Kano plays a key roll in the show too. I imagine the guys who made the show were probably big into grime. If Grime was a TV show, it would be Top Boy. Its on US Netflix atm, get on that bruv
If you like the eski-beat style, my favorites are Wiley - Step 1 freestyle (over Preditah's Circles) and JME - Shut up and Dance. neither are massive tunes with a shitload of views, but they fucking bounce!
Yeah this was before the people knew the genre as Grime. Think Wiley was getting pissed off with people calling it garage or two step because the sound was unique. Eskibeats was his label and the 140bpm wobbly basslines arent what you hear much of today. To be fair some underground garage songs do sound like early grime but by this time garage had become very commercial - craig david lol
I've been watching u an subscribed to u b4 u had 500 subs so Please Mate!!!! CASS IS DEAD "u might b scared now" Cass is Dead ft Highs "what's my name" no ur busy but come on man
This tune was basically the birth of grime.
