    An overview of the work of Apostle Paul in Ephesus through the book of Acts

    I am new to bible study, and I am confused by this sermon. Ephesians as a book was not really discussed in depth, but rather different parts of the bible are refrenced throughout Acts , Romans ect. Very disappointing when right at the end the Pastor says that he will get right into Ephesians in his next sermon. I did learn many historical facts about the life of Paul, and for that I'm grateful but the title is very misleading.

      You may want to listen again, he actually is showing us the teachings of Paul here and what it is in reference to even us now (ie. "Receiving the Spirit..."). The subtitle also states: "A review of the Apostle Paul's life and ministry and the circumstances leading up to the writing of this epistle.
      ", which he does quite well.

    Mike I was hoping you would touch up on speaking in tongues and prophecy after Paul laid hands on 12 men in Ephesus. It seems they received the Spirit after he laid hands on them, not after they were baptized. Thank you. Great study though... I love it!

      They received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at baptism (Acts 2:38) and received the empowerment of the H.S. when Paul, an Apostle laid hands on them. For more info on this see Lessons 14 and 15 in the series Luke/Acts for Beginners.

    I have a question in john 15vs 18 Jesus made a statement if the world hate you ye know that it hated me before it hated you so having said that long before paul was on the road to Damascus then why would he say why does thou persecute me?

    • @bibletalktv
      @bibletalktv  6 років тому +1

      I suppose Jesus’ original statement was a general one that referred not only to the animosity He personally suffered before they became full-time Apostles but also the conflict that His prophets and other servants experienced (I.e.John the Baptist) at the hands of unbelievers even before His arrival. Paul’s attacks on the church were just one more enemy in a long line of enemies of God and His people going all the way back to righteous Abel killed by unrighteousness Cain.

    I don't need speculation, I need scripture. You're probably a very capable teacher, but once you said; "Paul had crooked legs," I was done with your "study." Perhaps you fell you are humanizing the story for a wider audience. Good luck.

      Note that extra-biblical sources were quoted for those comments. If you continue you will notice that the study is focused on the text itself. Most “introductions” provide general background information from various sources.

    Being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ doesn't involve water at all. Does in the bible say water? No. The bapticim in water was made null after the arrival of holy sprit in Pentecost. John himself said that the one who would come after him would baptize in holy spirit and fire. Being baptized in the name of Christ simply is confessing with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing that God resurrected him from the dead, like it says in Romans 10:9,10

      Acts 8:36 and Acts 16:33 both events after Pentecost Sunday, both clearly refer to water baptism.

      Thats´s most likely because at that time the apostles were still figuring out the whats and hows of being baptized in holy spirit. They still used water until they remembered that they didn´t have to get baptized in water to receive spirit at pentecost. Old habits die hard and they´d to remember that Jesus said he came to fulfill the laws in the torah so they and those that come after him won´t have to, and AFTER those moments in Acts, there´s no mention of water when people talked about being baptized. It´s just that our minds go straight to water when we here the word but we have to remember what baptism actually means. Baptism means being washed from sins, and what better to wash us from sin that God´s own spirit?

      You are speculating about what the Apostles were thinking? Not a good way to arrive at Bible teachings. Also the 3000 baptized in water at Pentecost was a mistake or perhaps the Apostles working things out? The Scriptures clearly teach that the Apostles baptized repentant believers in water for the forgiveness of sins and that they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit - Acts 2:38.

      I´m not speculating, i´m just using logical thinking. Because God´s Word has scientific presicion and mathematical accurancy, and despite all it makes sense.

      I believe you misunderstood something. The following passage is Jesus speaking about the kingdom of God.
      Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man BE BORN OF WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. --John 3:5 (KJV)
