You looked like a frightened rabbit when Miss Hubnut mentioned caravans. You can't put off the inevitable for ever you know!! I think reviews of the roadside eateries you visit is an excellent idea, maybe even a HubNotes directory for the shop when you have enough material in hand?
Another fabulous video, our son had just finished three years at Aber university. He was in the accommodation at the top of the hill, affectionately called "cardiac hill" by the students.😁
Haven't used my 2CV since early September, so I must rectify that this week. I only have space for one car in my garage so the 2CV has been in storage at a friend's garage/workshop/barn about 30-35 miles away. It's getting too cold and dark to continue using my 1932 Morris Minor Two-seater now, so I'll get the two cars swapped around and get some miles done in the Deuche.
Not fun in a 30's car when it's brass monkey's, I used to get some heat off the pre select gearbox and centrifugal clutch after about 50 mile if I peeled the Wilton back but the whine gave one tinnitus. A candle gave out more light than 30 watt bulbs on unlit roads with a single dipping headlight (mechanical dip, the reflector tilted by a solenoid). It still had its WWII configuration, nearside light going out on dip as the offside one would have had the mask fitted. Single shrouded rear light. It was a 38 car but not registered until November 39. London registration. SW3 PO tax stamps in log book. 1st. registered keeper was a Doctor, 2nd. his Son, I was the 3rd. in 69 (Executor sale).
@@tonys1636 A pre-select gearbox sounds very fancy! 😂 I have to make do with a 3-speed 'crash' gearbox. With just 19bhp on tap (from new, so probably lost a few over the last nine decades), it loses momentum on hills that even a 2CV doesn't notice. I then have to wait until the speed is low enough to drop it from top into second gear because the gap between the two is as wide as the Atlantic Ocean 😬 and loses more speed as I need to double-declutch. I absolutely love driving it though. It makes the 2CV feel very powerful, smooth and easy to drive, and really makes me appreciate the modern daily driver (Mk7 VW Golf with a DSG gearbox). Drivers today have absolutely no idea how bloody good modern cars are. Everyone should be put behind the wheel of a pre-war/vintage motorcar for a weekend. The Minor was registered new on the 1st December 1932, so 89 years ago this Wednesday, but the chassis was laid down on the 11th April '32, and the body was fitted on the 12th after it had had its test-drive completed.
Great little video Ian and Miss Hubnut, great to see Elly getting out and about, look forward to the video on Miss Hubnut's channel, now away to watch the latest Chemmy Video.
I'm guessing as you're running a 60s grille on Elly, that the Muff is sized for the 425/435cc engines, rather than a 652cc-uprated 602 engine, sooo, maybe her muff needs a trimming? :P
They did use this grille with the 602 engine I think, back in the M4 days (so less power) but it may be a misnomer anyway. The idle has gone a bit iffy at times, which triggers the oil pressure warning. I'll get the idle jet out for a clean.
Theres a great old school cafe in Mach we stopped at on a mad moped run a good old style fry up.We were returning from a night stop at Port Maddoc.Telford to Port Maddoc and back to Telford .I was on a 1977 50cc honda express.Great fun.
I was looking forward to your review of Cletwr having looked at it as a possible stop for trips around the area with a charge, oh well, maybe in the future. I'd not rely on getting a charge there with the reputation BP Pulse have for reliability at the moment but charging is certainly a plus when looking for places to stop for food.
Wales . Lovely road and lovely scenery. I havent been for a while . But if i ever had the chance id move there as the west Midlands is just getting so horrific. I need good views and peace and quiet . Or am i just getting a old git . LOL
Ian, when you unclip the windows in the door to close them it always reminded me of a Spitfire pilot getting ready to dive at a skein of enemy fighter planes. O look, nursey is bringing me another tablet.
And a big hand for Miss Hubnut..... If you do a Scottish social there are some beauties here. The Horn on the A90 and Motorgrill on the A9 are two of my personal faves
Absolutely stunning scenery, nothing like this in the US. I also see that the help problem is global; wherever I travel in New York State (which includes NYC) the staff shortage and help wanted is everywhere. Nothing like spotting rare vehicles! On a walk à few week ago, another Triumph Stag 🦌 passed by me, this one in blue! They are extremely rare!
You MUST visit Penygawse Tearoom in Llandovery! Toilets good. Food excellent. Coffee is the very best I've ever tasted, anywhere, ever. Ever. Ever! And that Morris Minor has a strange mix of parts on it, if I remember correctly - the dashboard and steering wheel don't match its registration letter, or that sort of thing (?)
I can recommend Cletwr as a good place to stop for a snack. I was able to charge my EV while having a very nice snack. I look forward to your review when it is open.
Me and the Mrs don’t really drink so tea and cake is our thing also, of late we’ve had similar experience of places struggling due to lack of staff so sad but I guess will sort itself out. Anyway always a laugh with u2 and on a separate note what mpg does Elly achieve?
Hello Ian, Love your 2CVvideos. We had one in the house over 30 years ago (LHD, green, 1976 , 625cc with square headlights and the full sized rectangular speedometer) and I have to say that it is one of my favorite cars of all time. But PLEASE fix the wipers or their park postion; they spoil the view of the wistful Welsh countryside and elsewhere. I am surprised that you, with such senstivity to the design / general behaviour of wipers on cars would not have dealt with this issue! Maybe too much going on with your GSA and the other cars. Anyway as I say, don't keep it country, keep it Citroen but be pepared for a long labour of luv and TLC ...
Got to be 15ish yrs ago I last went to to Alt Tech Centre, guess its changed a bit. Travel advice is Miss Hubnuts bag, delicious 🎂 🥪 etc I would class as travel advice. Maybe make a two part muff so there's a 100% and a 50% cover?

Dear Reader, A 2 CV (Charleston)? Why not? Oh, yes, because I've tried once, sitting on the front seat and looking throught the windshield. And I looked out of the window at exactly the 'transitionline' between the window and the roof. Afther 5 minutes I had a headache. Or could you buy a higher windshield in a 2 CV? Stay strong Ian. Caravans are a No in my world and my wife agrees. We travel alot and prefer a nice bnb or a caravan park cabin or the occasional motel and no need ever to empty a chemical toilet. Emphasise the need to empty chemical toilets and the enthusiasm may disappear. Good luck.
I do wonder if muffs are really necessary for air-cooled engines, I run air-cooled Moto Guzzi motorcycles all year and the cold doesn't seem to cause any issues at all.
Ian sort those 2cv windscreen wipers out. They look like they dont know if coming or going.lol. Also havent noticed the 43 sticker before on passenger side screen..is that mrs hn's age?
Yes! She does have a mist setting on her button - push it in slightly for single wipe. I've been meaning to fit an intermitted wiper kit since about 2002 and still haven't even acquired one...
Parts of it are, from a nature point of view. I don't really like living in this area nowadays but I have no choice for another few years unfortunately. I don't think people who don't actually live round here understand that the area very much has its own ways, and not in a good way.
