- Double Life is an odd mix of a Social and PvP Minecraft game started by Grian. Players are thrown into a tiny world with almost no rules, except survive as long as possible.
In this version players have 3 lives that are linked to their soul bound partner which is chosen randomly at the start of the game. Red Players are given the goal of killing all the other players in the game.

It’s balanced out by Joel not doing anything dangerous at all, so their trouble levels are neutral.

So in total, the ways to approach the Deep Dark I've seen are:
Run in naked with a hoe, destroying shriekers and dying until the place is clear (Skizz)
Take loads of wool and be very careful (Xisuma, Pixlriffs)
Prepare weird emergency strategies (Impulse)
"I don't have to outrun the Warden, I just gotta outrun y'all" - most of this server
Kinda new to this, when did xisuma and pixlriffs do that? :)
@@The_NSeven Pix did it in his Survival Guide series and Xisuma did it in a Hermitcraft episode (although iirc it wasn't on the actual server, but rather a singleplayer backup)

Funny that endermen have been taking people out while the fancy new warden hasn't got a kill yet. can't beat a classic like the enderman!
If people were as careful around endermen as they were around the warden then endermen wouldn’t be an issue, ironically it’s because it’s new and powerful that the warden has thus far been outperformed by the good old enderman
I think a lot of the players have forgotten just how tough Endermen are when you don't have enchanted gear. They are not to be messed with!

i cant get over the whiplash of going from Joel's happy little "relation-SHIP! :D" episode and then to Etho's that was, imo, scarier than most modern horror movies. what a great duo, honestly
Be careful with that boat fall-damage cancel trick. If you fall exactly 49 blocks you take fall damage and die, unless feather falling.
Also if you ever go red be careful not to accidentally make a 49 block tall tower and accidentally leave a boat on the top, that might accidentally be really bad if someone were to find it.

@@rotor7726 No science, just a weird glitch in the game. It's been in the game for years, and I checked it again yesterday for 1.19 and it's still there.
@@rotor7726 there are a few different fall distances at which it happens. Cubfan made a video about it years ago that has all the exact numbers.
That is such an obscure yet useful bit of game knowledge, it perfectly fits with Etho shenanigans. Heck, you could even purposely make a 49 block tall "base" with a boat dispenser at the top to make it even more convincing. It would be hilarious for the boat boys to get a kill with a boat.

@@Klffsj Not to mention the Warden is bigger and therefore can't fit through all the gaps between the blocks. Wardens are relatively easy to evade.

Impulse and Etho didn't summon a Warden until other people showed up and made noise.

It also didn't make sense for Etho to have to watch his back. If Jimmy tried to betray Etho, Jimmy would die too, which means that Jimmy wouldn't betray Etho; Bdubs warning didn't make sense, which implies that he was trying to sew false discourse.

Etho and Zombiecleo interactions are ALWAYS my favorite. They play off each other like few other people.
You can tell Etho really wanted to place down torches when he gets the darkness effect, and cranks up the gamma of his videos higher than a flashback scene, on a beach, of a nuclear bomb's mushroom cloud erupting , while watching it in a dark movie theatre having just woken up at 2am.

This episode was insanely entertaining! The whole Warden debacle kept me on the edge of my seat and it was made even better by the fact that you escaped death more than once! To be honest, you were probably one of the better handlers of the situation--I saw you jumping specifically on that wool, which was a good call considering that you almost smooched the Warden right before. Watching you learn how to handle the Warden to enchant in the coming episodes will be a treat! Thanks for the really fun episode! Oh, and I'm super glad that you didn't end up falling prey to Bdubs' fearmongering about Joel. The Relation Shall Live!

I decided to break with tradition this time and watched Joel's episode first and I feel like the massive difference between the styles shows how strong this series is… Joel's is like a regular episode of a tightly-edited Minecraft building series bookended with a trailer for Etho's episode, and then Etho's is a whole short horror movie…
Jesus. This episode had my heart actually pounding.
Mojang did an amazing job on the sounds for the warden and the guy who made the warden area did an amazing job on lighting and setting.
Agreed, the warden sound effects sound like something out of a horror movie!

Imagine making your base in the Deep Dark. Sure, you're in constant danger (maybe make a house out of wool?)... But anyone who goes after you also deals with the Warden.
Knowing how much Etho loves wool bases in this, I feel like this would be really cool. Unfortunately, this game relies a lot on commerce and society, and this base might be a little too disconnected. Could make a good stronghold/fortress though.

It would make for a legendary secret bunker or stash
The Sculk Sensors/Shriekers have a small range (5? 8? blocks) so all he would have to do is clear out any nearby Shriekers and he'd be fine. Sensors do nothing but alert the nearby Shriekers and send out redstone signals. He wouldn't have to make it out of wool, but one big disadvantage is that he has the low ground and anyone can just mine a way in from the roof of the deep dark.
the real powermove should be to name tag the warden so it doesn’t despawn next time so no one is safe there anymore

I honestly have not seen any survival encounters with the deep dark yet so this was a fun and scary watch. Don't worry Etho, I couldn't see the Warden either
Joel has no business making such a beautiful boat for a base in this amount of time. He's amazing.
Bdubs' and Impulses's "sowing the seeds of doubt" was so funny, and even funnier when Etho sussed it out at the end and Joel got to be a proud loyal husband. (honestly it's a very silly idea to try to make the soulmates distrust each other since they have almost no choice but to work together. it would be more influential to doubt other pairs lol)

LOL I just watched Imp & Skizz's Naked and Scared episode where Impulse was still new to 1.19, Skizz was showing him the ropes, and Impulse was screaming at every little noise- and now we're seeing Impulse teach Etho, with Etho being startled at every noise 😂 circle of life

Feels almost like I'd never want to make a proper enchanting table. Just set up my bookcases in the wardens territory
Turns out you don't need to be perfectly sneaky to make it out of the deep dark alive... you just need to adventure with people who are louder and more panicky xD Etho and Impulse, you handled that trip impressively well!
And Etho, those skulk catalysts might be most interesting thing you could have gotten: you might be able to get sensors from them into a strategically viable position without silk touch! Plus, skulk catalysts can spawn shriekers that don't summon the warden but still make the sound and the darkness effect... I'm sure those could be very useful for both defenses and pranks. You can't pick up any skulk blocks without silk touch though (and I'm not sure whether you can get silk touch from a basic enchanter without bookshelves) so be careful where you put down the catalysts you got
You can get silk touch from a level 1 enchant, but it'll probably take a few tries.
I had a great idea to hook up a series of skulk sensors to an enderpearl stasis chamber to detect people trying to mess with the base while they're away. Maybe add in a shrieker to the mix as an alarm and a scare tactic. Proper utilization of skulk mechanics would definitely give a major edge in this game.
@@StuffandThings_ Ooh, that's clever! Plus it'd be great intimidation factor, people sneaking into the ship to do traps and then Etho or Joel appear out of nowhere to yell at them :)

Wait, really? Shriekers created from the catalysts don't summon the Warden? Did you perhaps move the catalyst out of the deep dark biome, have it create a shrieker, and then try to get the shrieker to summon the Warden?

@@elipandaman it does. That's how quick he is. He had just run up the stairs not knowing if he's being followed (they tell him that he came up last time). He immediately looks at the furnace. He always steals from furnaces and chests. It's his thing.
With all the XP stored in those skulk, you could get very high levels quite easily. Make sure to do this before other people discover how valuable a resource it is though. Oh, and if you get silk touch skulk sensors will make for a *superb* base defense! Just the thought of a base that can "hear" you will be enough to scare most people away. I can't imagine the crazy redstone you could add to it too as defense.
edit: you could make a trap that releases pillagers when a hidden skulk sensor is activated!
edit #2: better yet, hook up the skulk sensor to an enderpearl stasis chamber so that you catch anyone attempting to mess with your base while you're away.
They are only allowed to to level one enchantments
Or he could nametag a warden so it doesn't despawn and push it towards someone's base for giggles

@@_darcc Id assume thats the point. There is probably skulk placed near all chests also so players actually use the game mechanics instead of just looting free chest and getting free enchants.
this was 40+ minutes of absolute top tier entertainment! all the stuff with the warden had me terrified--the fact that u had your first ever warden experience in a series where you have very limited lives was... a choice. loved every second of it tho! :D

I forgot how much fun this series is. This one with players being souldbound to each other and Limited Life where they use a 24 hour clock instead of a death counter add so much to the original "Life" series idea.

I think the sheep farm needs a stone pressure plate, because it locks the hopper and the wool items will activate it.

Another chapter in the adventures of the Boat Boys! Etho, I'd recommend familiarizing yourself with the warden mechanics, and making use of your wool farm, when you next enchant.

The problem with pillaring is that if he gets hit by the sonic blast, he then probably falls off the pillar and dies to fall damage. If he gets hit with the sonic blast while on the ground, he won't die right away and may still has get a chance to escape.
I really loved the bit with impulse. You two would have made a great team too!
I know they were so calming to watch and work together, and how they both stuck around after everyone ran off they were both chilling for a bit

I really liked that you showed how to build the kind of sheep farm you usea In series like this, where resources are minimal and you need to get set up fast.
Obviously we've seen you build the most exotic, interesting, over-engineered farms for every resource imaginable in your LP -
but content like this video are way more useful to mere mortal players like us viewers.
Honestly I think it would make a really good project in your Single Player to build all the farms you'd use to get started as fast as possible, you could go way out into the wilderness of your world or something to do it
Love this series. If you want to venture back down into the deep dark, there should be a room full of redstone goodies underneath the structure with the enchanting table.
I had a crazy nightmare where this series became chaos, and sethbling (notably absent from this series) turned into some kind of cult leader after one episode of you not being there. It was really unsettling.

The warden is disproportionately strong, they better put in another dimension for him to be guarding. Too scary, need more bribery to face him 😯

First time I've seen the Ancient City, the developers did an amazing job with the atmosphere and setting!
Question: Do Night Vision potions counter the darkness effect?
It does counter it, but I don’t think it does completely. I believe it makes a small area around you visible
night vision potions make a small area of light around you, but it's still very dark.
Amazing the difference of their demeanor on the wardens then verses now on decked out 2 😂
