Thumbs up for working in the garage!
Thumbs up for letting me use it! Dat sweet, sweet lighting, tho.
Dude thank you for the bushing link. Put on 10" skinny apes before riding my bolt 10,000 miles around America and couldn't find replacement bushings to save my life. So much sketch and flex.
Joe Jackson absolutely! They really make a world of difference. Next on the list is tapered stealing bearings.
I literally got the same bars and handle grips for my bolt after watching this video and have rewatched the video many times. You guys are cool! Can’t wait to have mine installed
Is it possible to install chubby ape hangers on the bolt?
I’m going to do almost the same to my 2014 bolt but few things going to be different. I find this video very useful since I have no idea what to do. I know it’ll save me lots of money and will give me some experience. You guys are awesome!
its a great feeling, doing the work yourself. Best advise, take your time, double check the work, and hit it up the forums for advice.... also... don't use an impact drill.
MiniMose I am thinking about maybe making holes in the handlebars to make all the wires go into the pipes and they would exit from the top. It’s going to be risky but it will hide all the wires to give it cleaner look!
Great video. I've been wanting to put those same bars on my '14 Bolt. I wasn't sure exactly how to go about routing the wires though. I got the 8" mini-apes on it now, and they are really swept back as I don't like to lean forward much. I was thinking some taller bars may help as I feel like I need another 2 inches to be really comfortable, so the 12" bars ought to do the trick.
Did you end up getting them? How tall are you if you did and are they comfortable? Looking to do this too
@@patrickspencer2795 Unfortunately I did not. I loved my Bolt and still think they are awesome bikes. However, later that year I ended up trading it in for a new Indian Scout. On a different note, I'm 5' 8". Sorry I couldn't be more help.
What size cables and break line did you order? I'm looking at 12s
I am honestly not sure what they were. The guys I ordered the cables from where the same as the bars, so they already knew which ones I needed with the bolt. If I had to guess, they would be plus 5s, cause the z bars I had on didn’t require new cables, and they were 5inch bars
I was wondering how did you re route the electrical wires can you give me some more detail on how you did it my local shop wants an arm and a leg to extend the wires so im going to do it myself.
it was fairly simple. I remove the anchor points for left and right. Then when I looked at it, I noticed that the right crossed under the frame, going to the left side, and the left to right. I pulled them out and routed them to the same side. gave me enough to run the wires AND secure them to the handle bars.
Kinda jealous you got to work in the WBR garage. That was a great video though.
Silent J definitely feeling like a lucky mofo right now. I wish the camera hadn't acted up. Missed some pretty gold moments.
Is it possible to add the 8 ‘ ape hangers with the stock controls and wires?
the cables will not, the wiring will
I am adding 12” bars also but the barons cable/brake kit I ordered is way too short despite them advertising for 12-14” fitment. I noticed how much slack your cables have and want to order the same kit, just want to make sure you selected the 12” selection from sscc when you ordered them, I’ll lose my mind if I have to order a third set and wait while my bike sits there in pieces lol
talk to shane at sscustomcycles, they will get you taken care of. i had the same concerns, so i didn't order them online, i called in the order and talked to him.
Right on man, appreciate the info. Out of curiosity, do you know the measurement of the set of cables here over the stock ones? My +8” set looks about 2-3” short so I suspect yours are around +10”?
i am not entirely sure, but that sounds about right.
@@shawnkenney2807 hey bro did you figure out the size you needed? Do your mind sharing. Im doing 12" bars on mine too
Jonathan Vallejo I cant for life of me remember now, I know part of the issue I had was the bars I had installed were wider than expected. I have baron skinny apes now but Shane set me up with what I needed like a boss
Digging the look of the white wall Avon Cobra's you went with. Did you stick with the stock size front tire or size up? Hard to tell but it looks wider than stock. 120/70/19?
stock on both. I miss those tires. this time around I went with dunlops, and I wish I never did. the cobra 2s are great for the bolt. they are a bit soft around the sides, and they heat up quick, so after about 20-30 minutes of riding, they stick like glue. they also lasted quite a while. highly recommend.
So were the stock cables fine?
stock cables no. had to order a cable kit
stock wiring, yes
Can the throttle cables be installed without removing the tank?
not in any way I could see. the routing is all on the top frame rail, under the tank.
as lon as you keep it level, the tank removal was the easiest part of this whole thing. we took it off with 3/4 of a tank of gas in the tank.
Love this channel
much appreciated!
Enjoyed It man!! I'm with Silent J little Jelly you got in the garage!! Your right though what are friends for. Next time don't let Chase tighten your bar clamps he doesn't have a great record with tourque wrenches lol.
I wish I could blame it on him... I went ham with that damn impact drill..
TheMiniMose gotta watch them fun tools! They will bite you! Looks great though brother!
great job!
Thanks! Still learning the process, but it's a blast
U made one. Why doesnt chase promote you. Damn
cause i don't upload at all. lol. this was ages ago. i hope to change that in the next little bit.
How are the kuryakyn grips?
thicker than stock, so that has taken some getting used to, but the rubber parts almost feel like air pockets, so its comfy
TheMiniMose thanks. Thinking of getting them as well.
it was a toss up between these and the avon airs
TheMiniMose sweet install video btw. And you get to work in chase's garage.
not a bad gig :)
Gas tank capacity blows, if only hold more gasoline
@@rubensoto-2749 yea, it sucks for long trips for that reason. Stopping so often. Never really noticed in town though, which is where this bike shined.
And I am going to subscribe
much love!
This my bike now i buy 🙂👌
Man, idk if it’s a New York thing or what. But I’ve called sscustoms twice now and I’ll never do business with them
your mileage may very I guess? I have never had a problem with them... that's odd. sucks that you had a bad experience with them, mah dude
Maybe I got them on the two “off days”. Either way your video was great!
Just an update. All issues where resolved with sscustoms!
That amazing to hear! I'm glad that got sorted.
