I completely respect your opinion, but I’d argue that Ten’s arrogance is an interesting trait of the incarnation, rather than an unappealing one. I’d argue it was an appealing character flaw because it showed the doctor as imperfect, as fallible. In doing so, you have far more of a rounded character who makes mistakes and who can be wrong. This makes his victories, his arcs and his moral choices all the more fulfilling for audiences in my opinion
Yeah I agree. At times I straight up didn't like him, and it makes moments such as Martha just walking away seem more justified than they would be if he were a more honourable doctor.
My wanking sorry ranking: 12: Colin Baker 11: Paul McGann 10: William Hartnell 9: Sylvester McCoy 8: Peter Davison 7: Peter Capaldi 6: Patrick Troughton 5: Jon Pertwee 4: Christopher Eccleston 3: David Tennant 2: Matt Smith 1: Tom Baker

My Pics: 1. Peter Capaldi 2. Tom Baker 3. David Tennant 4. Matt Smith 5. John Pertwee 6. Christopher Eccleston 7. Patrick Troughton 8. Sylvester McCoy 9. Paul McGann 10. William Hartnell 11. Peter Davidson 12. John Hurt 13. Collin Baker 14. Jodie Whittaker
Of course Tom is the best. To me, he's the definitive Doctor Who. Whenever I think of Doctor Who as a whole, he is the one who comes to my mind. He's like Sean Connery as James Bond, he's that iconic.
My list... 1. The doctor 2. The doctor 3. Troughton was fun but could also trick any enemy and some of his stories are the best of the 60s. Pertwee was the stern father figure but a friend to all with everyone’s best interest at heart. Tom Baker was the wacky mad professor type who could entertain in a white room. Davison was the “human” doctor who was easily approachable and made the tardis always feel like a home. Jon Pertwee is my favourite Doctor. I love his costumes, his hair, his companions, UNIT, Venusian Aikido, Bessie, there's so much to like. Tom Baker is a very very close second. You're right; the guy IS an alien. I'd have to have a good think about where I'd put the rest, but I know I'd probably put Tennant in the bottom five along with Hartnell.
This is a great list! It's not quite the same as mine, but that doesn't matter. I like how some of your picks are predictable, while others go against the grain. A very honest look at the Doctors. Agree about Capaldi, and I love to see Pertwee and Davison get some love. All of these terrific Dr. Who lists inspire me to post some of my own.
Great video. My favourite Doctor is Capaldi but I make the distinction between favourite and best. I don't think I can ever rank the Doctors. Like you, I've enjoyed each interpretation of this character and I think if any one of them had never been given the chance to be the Doctor the show as a whole would be poorer for it.
The Tenth Doctor also seems to have fallen from grace for me too. But I'm putting the Eight Doctor higher because the other media there is for him. He stands out as the one who has to constantly regain his identity and shows the most compassion for his companions without having to fall in love with them, but just that's just my opinion. I hope to God that McGann get's a second chance on TV.
Update, I am not really a fan of Jodie's Doctor. Some of her stories are good but I feel all her stories would be better served by another incarnation so she might even be 13. Jo Martin is so much better but we haven't really seen enough of her to list - what could have been...
My favourite would have to be capaldi the man was a speech machine Anti war speech Where I stand is where I fall And of course his regeneration speech Were my favourites
Our top three are the same! Except rearanged for mine, with the 12th at first, the 3rd at second, and 4th at third. I strongly disagree with what you said about Capaldi's writing however. In my opinion Twelve's era has the best writing certainly from the new show, possibly the show entirely.
Tom Baker will forever be my doctor but I have 1 2 3 and 12 rounding out my top 5 the other four positions vary according to my mood, so I very much respect your veiw!. And I love 12s writing and his speeches, his speeches can even blow the mighty TB out of the water (the zygon speech for example I'd like to see ANY of the other doctors pull that one off, they cant! And rumour has it he did it in one take too. If so it shows what sort of acting chops Capaldi has!!!)
My list: 14. War Doctor 13. 6th Doctor 12. 1st Doctor 11. 7th Doctor 10. 9th Doctor 9. 8th Doctor 8. 5th Doctor 7. 2nd Doctor 6. 4th Doctor 5. 13th Doctor 4. 3rd Doctor 3. 11th Doctor 2. 12th Doctor 1. 10th Doctor
Absolutely amazing list! Not too far off from mine - but it's so lovely to hear a guy give each Doctor a fair and analytical going-over. SUPER happy to hear you say such good things about 6, 2, 12 and 5, and I agreed with absolutely everything. My list would be: 12. McGann 11. Smith 10. C. Baker 9. Hartnell 8. Eccleston 7. McCoy 6. Tennant 5. Pertwee 4. T. Baker 3. Capaldi 2. Troughton 1. Davison
Pertwee always my favourite with Baker & Capaldi right behind. It is such a shame that the writing of his era was so bad. Plus, I cannot stand Clara. Leela's would have killed Clara for her treatment of the Doctor. Anyway, good list.
Capaldi is my doctor.Tennant was a bit to arrogant on screen for me especially in series 4. Matt Smith was far too comedic and silly for a doctor and I could never take him seriously when he tried to be serious.
Nice ranking. 😀👍 My ranking in reverse order is... 13) The War Doctor 12) Five 11) Ten 10) Eight 9) Six 8) One 7) Nine 6) Two 5) Three 4) Eleven 3) Seven 2) Four 1) Twelve
My favourite is the 10th (yeah I said it come at me) I get the "too human" criticism and the end of time (yeah that was a disgrace to him), but he funny, charismatic, serious when he has on to be, the characters around him, most of his episodes are enjoyable (even love and monsters if you don't take it seriously and end of time NOT included), his era really brings a smile to my face and memories of how good new who was during it's golden age.
My list: 12) Matt Smith 11) William Hartnell 10) Sylvester Mcoy 9) Peter Capaldi 8) Colin Baker 7) Paul McGann 6)Patrick Throughton 5) John Pertwee 4) David Tennant 3) Tom Baker 2) Peter Davidson 1) Christopher Eccleston
Totally agree on Pertwee and his badassery! He is sooo cool! Also agree on Capaldi and that he would work at any part of the shows timeline! Fascinating, I hadn’t thought about that! But yeah, Capaldi was great...
12. Matt Smith 11. Paul McGann 10. Colin Baker 9. Sylvester McCoy 8. William Hartnell 7. David Tennant 6. Peter Davison 5. Jon Pertwee 4. Peter Capaldi 1. Tom Baker 1. Patrick Troughton 1. Christopher Eccleston
Tennant is my favourite Doctor, but I understand people's problems with him. Yes, he can be a bit of a 'wingy' (pun intended) person, and can sometimes come off as too human, but I think his overall charm, wittiness and the era that he was in, makes me feel he's the best.
I have to say, I really like this approach. This is the first video of yours that I have seen, but you were way more respectful then most others that I have seen, and even though I disagree with some of your rankings, you were just nicer about it than a lot of the people who discuss DW.
His stories are what really had helped him. He was good as the Doctor but those stories were key. As oppose to Smith and Capaldi whom had poor and not as consistent story lines, yet were better Doctors.
William Hartnell is one of my favourite of the classic era because I found his silly cheap monsters terrifying in black and white. It’s also refreshing to me because the vibe is so different from any other era it could be a whole other show. Makes me appreciate how far it’s come.
Great video, I don't necessarily agree with you on all your choices but how you explained your reasoning was completely coherent and just made sense to me.
In my Opinion David Tennant is still number 1 for me.. because he was so human like .. he was scared of dying and imagine you would've been in that Situation when he had hope that he would live and then his hopes were crushed by four knocks i would be desperate and pissed off too tbh but thats just my opinion
1 Peter Davidson/Jon Pertwee 3 Sylvester McCoy 4 Paul McGann 5 Matt Smith 6 Tom Baker 7 Colin Baker 8 William Hartnell 9 Patrick Troughton 10Peter Capaldi 11 David Tennant 12 Chris Eccleston 13 Jodie Whittaker
I haven't seen enough to rank all the Doctors. Tom Baker was the Doctor when I first encountered the series years ago. I wasn't aware of previous Doctors then; I did not follow subsequent Doctors after him. Our local public television station carried the series for a short time. In the early-mid 2000s, I started watching Doctor Who on DVDs after a fellow doll enthusiast mentioned the series. I started with Tennant as "my" new series Doctor then returned to Eccleston and on to Smith and Capaldi. After viewing your vlogs about the series, I want to revisit the Tom Baker stories and some of the other, old series. Thanks for sharing your opinions and for explaining them here.
Thanks, Oliver Raven. I got my dates wrong. I didn't see any new Doctor Who until they were on DVD and available in the U.S. So that would have been after 2010. Not the early-mid 2000s.
1. tom baker 2. jon pertwee 3.matt smith 4.Sylvester mccoy 5.peter davison 6.David tennant (the reason hes so low is cause the end of time sucked 7.patrick troughton 8.colin baker 9.william hartnell 10. peter capaldi(cause of clara and steven moffats crappy writing) 11.christopher eccleston cause he only did 1 season 12. paul mcghan
My mate’s mum was old enough to remember when Troughton took over from Hartnell so I asked her what she thought of him and she replied “I hated him.” She said he grew on her eventually and she ended up liking him, but at first the idea of replacing Hartnell didn’t go down very well. Looking at him now, 50 years later, I think he’s not the biggest personality but he fits his own era perfectly, an easy going, low key and fun Doctor who can be a total boss when he needs to be. Apart from him, my fave is Peter Davison. He’s so underrated it’s criminal.
Best to worst - Tom Baker, Troughton, Hartnell, Pertwee, Capaldi, Eccleston, Smith, Davison, Tennant, Baker, McGann, McCoy. Pertwee and Capaldi could switch places easily. Same with Tennant and Davison. IMO. - Capaldi could have been great ... Eccleston could have lasted longer.
For me Jon Pertwee's doctor is my favourite because he is the first one I remember seeing on television back in 1973. I like Tom Baker too. When was your first memory of the seeing the show on television?
My parents were Who addicts since the '60s, so watched the repeats on UK Gold on weekend mornings in the '90s and early '00s. Three-year-old me caught sight of the Fendahleen from "Image Of The Fendahl", and then a Zygon, and that was my imagination hooked for life. Peter Davison was the first Doctor I actively chose to watch, and subsequently became my favourite
Tom Baker is the best Doctor. Up until very recently Peter Davision was my top pick (he was my first Doctor, so there's a distinct imprint there, I suppose), but Baker's just nudged him out of the top spot. Davison is still second though.
If you like Tom Baker, watch Nicholas & Alexandra, a movie made in 1971. It won Oscars and Tom Baker plays Rasputin - to which role he brings great intensity. A Doctor Who aside, Tsar Nicholas II is played in this film by Michael Jayston, who was later to play The Valeyard opposite Colin Baker’s 6th Doctor. Do try and watch it sometime, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Tom’s performance as Rasputin... in some ways it’s a little bit like his performance as the 4th Doctor...😀
Great video wingy. I love rankings & top 10 videos cause everyones is different. Dare you to do top 10 sexiest companions. Anyway here is ranking of doctors. 12. Hartnell 11. Mcgann 10. Davison 9. McCoy 8. C. Baker 7. Smith 6. Capaldi 5. Eccleston 4. Troughton 3. Tennant 2. T. Baker 1. Pertwee
I haven't seen everything from all of them, and some of them I haven't seen anything of (I'm steadily making my way through the classic series, currently on The Key to Time) but here's my ranking from what I have seen: 9. Paul McGann (Only seen Night of the Doctor, so really can't put him any higher) 8. David Tennant (Like you said, End of Time really sours his era) 7. Peter Davison (I've only seen Warriors of the Deep) 6. Colin Baker (Trial of a Time Lord) 5. Christopher Eccleston 4. Matt Smith 3. Jon Pertwee (Everything) 2. Peter Capaldi 1. Tom Baker (His first four seasons, plus The Ribos Operation and The Pirate Planet)
Karkat Vantas If Warriors of the deep is the only Davison story you've seen then you have missed out on loads of great stuff, warriors is probably his worst story!
I'm well aware, I got it in a box set with The Silurians and The Sea Devils when I was going through Jon Pertwee's era. But I'm determined to see everything classic Who has to offer. Or at least everything the BBC didn't purge from their archives.
Has anyone else taken the liberty to notice that he has a classic doctor and a modern doctor as both the worst and best, much more varied than most other youtubers who dogmatically favour the new or classic series. Still i'd probaby have your list almost backwards but still.
Much respect. Ive come to the conclusion that i have no favorite doctor, although i am partial to David Tennant because he was the Doctor when i started watching. But i respect your opinion
Hey Wingy, I'm up to series 9 of new Who now so can better judge them compared to my old post. We have a lot of overlap, Tom Baker is of course number 1, Peter Davison is my number 4 as well, etc I do have Matt Smith at 3rd, much higher than your rating and have 9 at the bottom of my list, but overall those are our greatest divergences.
Sorry Sat 1, I agree with Wingy with the exception of 10, DT is the worst Dr EVER for me. Until Rose came along (I do like Billie Piper though)m I thought Mel Bush was the worst companion and Matha is not much better. Tennant seemed too one dimensional for me and I can't look past all the soap opera elements.
Great video wingy, Tom & Patrick excellent first rate Doctors, can you act Wingy you could be a Doctor in the future. Thats some hypnotic intro shit you were using wingy, YOU WILL OBEY?...
My list 1. David Tennant 2. Peter Capaldi 3. Tom Baker 4.Matt Smith 5. Jon Pertwee 6.Christopher Eccleston 7. Sylvester McCoy 8. Peter Davidson 9. Patrick Troughton 10. Colin Baker 11. Paul McGann 12. William Hartnell 13. Jodie Whittaker I put that gap to show how far apart in quality Hartnell and Whittaker are. I don't think Jodie is God awful I just think if you look at Doctor Who as a whole she is the weakest of all the Doctors. I think Tennant is the most Overhated and Overrated Doctor (even though he's my favourite) of the NuWho. I understand his flaws and I also took his "arrogance" as the Doctor just being he Doctor. I feel a lot of people focus on the bad parts which are only a small part of who he is as a character. There is a lot more good to Tennant than a lot of people give credit for nowadays. But as also Wingy, great list and video.
"Some of the BEST stuff, consistently, weak after weak... Wait... Week after week!" BTW, could you make a video related to Big Finish (if you ever heard the stories, they're great!)? Maybe companions, like Evelyn Smythe (the best). Great videos, love your channel!
My favourite Doctor was Patrick Troughton as he had the biggest impact on Dr Who if you think about it. He Introduced Jelly Babies, Bow Ties, Sonic Screwdriver, Braces, “I see you have done the Tardis up a bit hmmm I don’t like it”, The 3 Year rule and most importantly Regeneration.
@@siriusblack7663 In terms of the show as a whole, Troughton definitely did but in terms of playing the character itself, Tom took that part to another level
I've seen quite a few of these Doctor rankings, this one probably comes closest to my personal list. As with most things in life, it comes down to how you experienced each actor at the time they were the Doctor.
I've been a doctor who fan since the early 70's not old enough for one and two, came in half way through three. Though I caught up with rest later, and have now seen all stories available. Tom Baker will forever be my doctor, no others will ever come close, though I have to say, Capaldi is a very close second Tom I can believe is alien he's manic had the voice and the look to command, had terrific stories, some speeches that would put the latter doctors to shame, and the scarf! Enough said! Capaldi however, is a brilliant established actor in his own right, musician, artist, a public speaker like you wouldnt believe (do I really need to mention THAT story) the young ones dont like him because he's old, I think it's an advantage, his face matches his age. Matt was an old man in a young man's body, sometimes it comes through, others not so much. 12 however I can beleive he's over 2000 years old, he has the gravitas to pull it off, just a pity about the writing. Since nu who came on I found it so different to what I was used to I regarded it as two seperate shows. so classic in order of favourites 1 tom Baker 2 Jon Pertwee 3 Patrick Troughton 4 William Hartnell 5 Peter Davison 6 Sylvester MC coy 7 Colin Baker Nu Who 1 Capaldi, 2 Matt Smith 3 Christopher Eccelton 4 David Tennant 5 Paul McGann (only due to lack of stories) 6 War doctor (ditto) I have been watching these for awhile everyones entitled to their opinion, but any list that has the great one in their top 5 I wont argue with!
13: The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith is a great actor, but he got just the worst writing) 12: The War Doctor 11: The Eighth Doctor 10: The Sixth Doctor 9: The Twelfth Doctor 8: The Seventh Doctor 7: The First Doctor 6: The Fifth Doctor 5: The Ninth Doctor 4: The Tenth Doctor (purely for nostalgia) 3: The Fourth Doctor 2: The Third Doctor 1: The Second Doctor
My ranking: Third- Pertwee Tenth- Tennant Forth- T. Baker Second/Ninth (can't choose)- Troughton/Eccleston Sixth- C. Baker Seventh- McCoy Twelfth- Capaldi Eighth- McGann Fifth- Davison Eleventh- Smith First- Hartnell Thirteenth- Whittaker I don't think anyone has played a bad doctor so its a very tough list after the top 5.
Best first, worst last. Note - Depending on mood, Doctors can move up and down several places. 3, 4, 2, 1, 5, 8, 6, 7, War, 9, 12, 11, 10, 13. Sometimes 4 is above 3, or 1 is above 2. Or 2 is above 4.
I feel like one of the few that didn't mind that. It's like, he's been through so much shit, and lost so much. I think it was a ballsy move to have him go out in a way that was more human than heroic, because that's what 10 was, a relatable Doctor, he wasn't perfect, and he felt like he was dying and he was scared.
I remember at the time quite liking that scene, that it made him not a good-guy hero, and undercut the noble sacrifice/ dignity in death tropes that get tiresome. I kind of appreciated that he had this undertone of insufferable hubris and solipsism that made him kind of unlikeable. ...I don’t think I was really supposed to get that out of it, though.
My top 5 favourite Doctors are: 1. David Tennant (my favourite). 2. Jon Pertwee. 3. Tom Baker. 4. Matt Smith. 5. Christopher Eccleston. I don't know where I'd rank the other Doctors, but I like them all.
Tom is THE Doctor, he is ....from an other planet. The series and the audios are amazing. 2nd. John Hurt, listening to his BFA is awesome...he had such an Energie you can almost see the Doctor, listening to his play...thats how good he was RIP 3rd. Paul McGann... even his worst BFA storys are carried completly by him. He is the Doctor and he allways nails it. Honestly ...every Whovian got chills, the Moment in Night of the Doctor, hearing a voice "Im the Doctor, but probably not the one you expacted" It felt stunning... it was like "yes, yes, yes...17 years"
Haven't yet watched the classics except 8 (I started Doctor Who about 2 months ago) but here's my list based entirely on the TV show: 7. Jodie Whittaker: good actress, nearly zero character development and terrible writer. 6. Paul McGann: brilliant actor, not so good movie, brilliant short. 5. Christopher Eccleston: brilliant actor, sometimes feels forced though. 4. John Hurt: brilliant characterisation, and nothing needs to be said about Sir John Hurt. 3. David Tennant: The most human doctor 2. Peter Capaldi: the best actor to touch the role 1. Matt Smith: is the first face this face saw. Terrific acting chops. Has the best series of nuwho as his opening one!
Suprised about Wingy's list . I thought it'd be more similar to mine but still pretty good . I'm glad Colin Baker isn't last but think he should be higher . Obviously I agree Tom Baker is number 1 . Also for how much he bigged up Matt Smith he seems a bit low but glad he's above Tennant . I never been a massive Jon Pertwee fan . So find it hard to accept him as number 2 , but overall this quite a good list .
Apologies about the intro guys, don't know how it messed up as it was fine before I uploaded it!
Shrug. Glitches happen. I enjoyed the video. That's what counts ;-)
Refreshed the damn thing 3 times thinking my UA-cam had crashed again until I finally realised XD Good stuff as always, mate :-)
I actually thought it was an 80s influenced title sequence 😂 #Kms
Secret coded message received. Notifying invasion fleet to proceed.
" if you do happen to disagree, I don't care." bloody legend. 😂😂
My favourite doctor is Patrick Troughton because he had the biggest job of making a regeneration working and I love him he's so clever but can play the fool which tricks them
Look at the photo of Troughton when it goes up. His trousers look odd.
Doctor who Productions he was the first i watched of classic doctor who which instantly made him my favourite
I love Patrick troughton
Troughton is great. A combination of Chaplin's Tramp and Detective Columbo.
Paul Charles Morris umm yeah they’re supposed to look odd he’s an alien from another planet he isn’t gonna dress like a human
Well presented and well reasoned.
Council of Geeks Thanks! Big fan of your channel
future tv Not on all the rankings but we line up on more than a few.
My favourite Doctor is Tom Baker but sometimes William Hartnell's Doctor is also my favourite. I like the Dr to be eccentric, dotty and alien. The first 4 Doctors were born to play this part and I can't imagine anyone doing a better job. Colin Baker I think is very underrated.

Great video and thank you for not feeling obliged to love the tenth doctor like other doctor who fans do

True. Every time I see a title like 'ranking' something I wonder if it's a typo. Just for a second.
Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker and Patrick Thoughton are my faves.
Capaldi is my favorite from NuWho by far
I don't really have a list (As i'm still getting through Classic Who), but so far Jon Pertwee is my personal favourite.
I agree, Jon Pertwee is my Doctor
Tom Baker is my doctor but John Pertwee was the first one I saw, green Death 1973 (geeze that was a long time ago!!!)
Pertwee is a fantastic watch. The james bond doctor.

Ben Christie Tom isn't just a doctor, he's THE doctor. The definite article you might say 😉
My list...
1. The doctor
2. The doctor
3. The doctor
I do not have a favourite, or a least favourite, they are all special in their own way]
Hartnell was the grumpy grandad but extremely warm and you always feel safe when he is around.
His heroism in Androzani was pure gold.
Colin Baker was the clown but the one I would want to see if I walked into the Tardis and always confronted head on.
Mccoy was the schemer who would have the enemy dead before they even met.
I can not choose one.
Me seeing my doctor, 10th at second last: oh😔
Jon Pertwee is my favourite Doctor. I love his costumes, his hair, his companions, UNIT, Venusian Aikido, Bessie, there's so much to like. Tom Baker is a very very close second.
My list:
14. War Doctor
13. 6th Doctor
12. 1st Doctor
11. 7th Doctor
10. 9th Doctor
9. 8th Doctor
8. 5th Doctor
7. 2nd Doctor
6. 4th Doctor
5. 13th Doctor
4. 3rd Doctor
3. 11th Doctor
2. 12th Doctor
1. 10th Doctor
Absolutely amazing list! Not too far off from mine - but it's so lovely to hear a guy give each Doctor a fair and analytical going-over. SUPER happy to hear you say such good things about 6, 2, 12 and 5, and I agreed with absolutely everything.
My list would be:
12. McGann
11. Smith
10. C. Baker
9. Hartnell
8. Eccleston
7. McCoy
6. Tennant
5. Pertwee
4. T. Baker
3. Capaldi
2. Troughton
1. Davison
Pertwee always my favourite with Baker & Capaldi right behind. It is such a shame that the writing of his era was so bad. Plus, I cannot stand Clara. Leela's would have killed Clara for her treatment of the Doctor. Anyway, good list.
Yes, she would have thrown her knife in the back of her neck like she did to that Sontaran one time.
Capaldi is my doctor.Tennant was a bit to arrogant on screen for me especially in series 4. Matt Smith was far too comedic and silly for a doctor and I could never take him seriously when he tried to be serious.
Nice ranking. 😀👍
My ranking in reverse order is...
13) The War Doctor
12) Five
11) Ten
10) Eight
9) Six
8) One
7) Nine
6) Two
5) Three
4) Eleven
3) Seven
2) Four
1) Twelve
My favourite is the 10th (yeah I said it come at me)
I get the "too human" criticism and the end of time (yeah that was a disgrace to him), but he funny, charismatic, serious when he has on to be, the characters around him, most of his episodes are enjoyable (even love and monsters if you don't take it seriously and end of time NOT included), his era really brings a smile to my face and memories of how good new who was during it's golden age.
1. Troughton (who I'm dressing as at Bath Comic Con, by the way)
2. Tennant
3. Smith
4. T Baker
5. Eccleston
6. McGann
7. Capaldi
8. Davison
9. Pertwee
10. C Baker
11. Hartnell
12. McCoy
Why is McCoy so low?!
My list: 12) Matt Smith
11) William Hartnell
10) Sylvester Mcoy
9) Peter Capaldi
8) Colin Baker
7) Paul McGann
6)Patrick Throughton
5) John Pertwee
4) David Tennant
3) Tom Baker
2) Peter Davidson
1) Christopher Eccleston
Totally agree on Pertwee and his badassery! He is sooo cool!
Also agree on Capaldi and that he would work at any part of the shows timeline! Fascinating, I hadn’t thought about that! But yeah, Capaldi was great...
Wingy: Puts two of my favourite doctors at the bottom
Me: A surprise to be sure but a welcome one
12. Matt Smith
11. Paul McGann
10. Colin Baker
9. Sylvester McCoy
8. William Hartnell
7. David Tennant
6. Peter Davison
5. Jon Pertwee
4. Peter Capaldi
1. Tom Baker
1. Patrick Troughton
1. Christopher Eccleston
Hey wingy could you rank the dalek stories soon? Great content as usual, inspiring me for my channel as ever :D
CrazyDolphinGamer It's on my to do list!
Tom Baker is brilliant! Definitely the best. I haven't watched all the new ones yet, I'm at series 2, but Tom is still the Doctor!
Well done sir, this list and how and why you ranked the doctors the way you did has inspired me to go back and do a list myself. Bravo.
Finally - someone who doesn't think that Tennant is the best doctor and can point out his massive flaws!!!!
Chelsea Frank yasss tennant is so fucking overrated
His stories are what really had helped him. He was good as the Doctor but those stories were key. As oppose to Smith and Capaldi whom had poor and not as consistent story lines, yet were better Doctors.
mike4282 I didn't like his stories more than I liked moffat era stories
Yep. Very true. TB totally rocks!!
People are quick to point out when 10 criticised 11 for forgetting the number of children in the 50th, but are quick to forget 10s flaws!
William Hartnell is one of my favourite of the classic era because I found his silly cheap monsters terrifying in black and white. It’s also refreshing to me because the vibe is so different from any other era it could be a whole other show. Makes me appreciate how far it’s come.
I absolutely adore Peter Capaldi and William Hartnell. My two favorites.
A fantastic ranking, and I enjoyed the heck out of this! So pleased to see Pertwee rank so highly.
Great video, I don't necessarily agree with you on all your choices but how you explained your reasoning was completely coherent and just made sense to me.
Tom baker wasn't only the best doctor, he had the best stories, the best companions
In my Opinion David Tennant is still number 1 for me.. because he was so human like .. he was scared of dying and imagine you would've been in that Situation when he had hope that he would live and then his hopes were crushed by four knocks i would be desperate and pissed off too tbh but thats just my opinion
Top 5:
1. Pertwee
2. Troughton
3. Smith
4. T Baker
5. Tennant
Also Wingy do ranking of Doctor Who aliens/villains
1 Peter Davidson/Jon Pertwee
3 Sylvester McCoy
4 Paul McGann
5 Matt Smith
6 Tom Baker
7 Colin Baker
8 William Hartnell
9 Patrick Troughton
10Peter Capaldi
11 David Tennant
12 Chris Eccleston
13 Jodie Whittaker
Hell yeah
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 great video keep up the good work
TRIGGEREEEEDDDD
Lol jk. Tennant fans are triggered though😂
Aamina Saleh, lmao yes!!!!! When i saw where he had placed Tennant I was like holy shit lmao. Those fan undoes are now in a bunch.
David Tennant is my absolute favourite Doctor but I respect Wingy's and other people's opinions. That being said I am still planning my attack.
She’s some people’s favorite because she’s a waahmyn.
Tennant episodes on DVD in the early-to-mid-2000s? Something doesn't add up there.
Thanks, Oliver Raven. I got my dates wrong. I didn't see any new Doctor Who until they were on DVD and available in the U.S. So that would have been after 2010. Not the early-mid 2000s.
1. tom baker
2. jon pertwee
3.matt smith
4.Sylvester mccoy
5.peter davison
6.David tennant (the reason hes so low is cause the end of time sucked
7.patrick troughton
8.colin baker
9.william hartnell
10. peter capaldi(cause of clara and steven moffats crappy writing)
11.christopher eccleston cause he only did 1 season
Wow, my list is so different.
Also, am I the only person who really liked series 9?
no I love it too!
10 used to be my favorite, but Peter Capaldi pushed him down the list a bit (though not as far down as yours).
My first memories are of JP's Doctor, frontier in space when I was only 4 at the time.
TONY B The Green Death was the first story I saw on television. I remember the cliffhanger of the maggot crawling on the floor towards Jo.....
That's my second memory of Doctor who, William .
The Sea Devils in 1972
Tom Baker is the best Doctor. Up until very recently Peter Davision was my top pick (he was my first Doctor, so there's a distinct imprint there, I suppose), but Baker's just nudged him out of the top spot. Davison is still second though.
Hell yeah
McCoy will always be my favourite Doctor
Love seasons 25 and 26 season 24 is emmm...
Ok
If you like Tom Baker, watch Nicholas & Alexandra, a movie made in 1971. It won Oscars and Tom Baker plays Rasputin - to which role he brings great intensity. A Doctor Who aside, Tsar Nicholas II is played in this film by Michael Jayston, who was later to play The Valeyard opposite Colin Baker’s 6th Doctor. Do try and watch it sometime, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Tom’s performance as Rasputin... in some ways it’s a little bit like his performance as the 4th Doctor...😀
wow I personally find the 60s the best era
Great video wingy. I love rankings & top 10 videos cause everyones is different. Dare you to do top 10 sexiest companions. Anyway here is ranking of doctors.
12. Hartnell
11. Mcgann
10. Davison
9. McCoy
8. C. Baker
7. Smith
6. Capaldi
5. Eccleston
4. Troughton
3. Tennant
2. T. Baker
1. Pertwee
How dare you
I think hating Tennant has become more popular than liking him in the internet fan community.
and Tom Baker may well be the funniest man on earth.
I haven't seen everything from all of them, and some of them I haven't seen anything of (I'm steadily making my way through the classic series, currently on The Key to Time) but here's my ranking from what I have seen:
9. Paul McGann (Only seen Night of the Doctor, so really can't put him any higher)
8. David Tennant (Like you said, End of Time really sours his era)
7. Peter Davison (I've only seen Warriors of the Deep)
6. Colin Baker (Trial of a Time Lord)
5. Christopher Eccleston
4. Matt Smith
3. Jon Pertwee (Everything)
2. Peter Capaldi
How about a version of this for the known incarnations of the Master/Missy
Hey Wingy, I'm up to series 9 of new Who now so can better judge them compared to my old post. We have a lot of overlap, Tom Baker is of course number 1, Peter Davison is my number 4 as well, etc
I do have Matt Smith at 3rd, much higher than your rating and have 9 at the bottom of my list, but overall those are our greatest divergences.
My Personal top 3:
3. Tom Baker
2. Peter Capaldi
1. David Tennant
Though I hate none of them and think they all gave wonderful performances
Sorry Sat 1, I agree with Wingy with the exception of 10, DT is the worst Dr EVER for me. Until Rose came along (I do like Billie Piper though)m I thought Mel Bush was the worst companion and Matha is not much better. Tennant seemed too one dimensional for me and I can't look past all the soap opera elements.
Great video wingy, Tom & Patrick excellent first rate Doctors, can you act Wingy you could be a Doctor in the future. Thats some hypnotic intro shit you were using wingy, YOU WILL OBEY?...
TONY B The intro wasn't on purpose 😂 I don't know if I could be the doctor one day but, I'd give it a go!
Wingy Media wingy you could become an acting legend of the calibre of Matthew Waterhouse?
Totally agree! Great analysis!
13. War Doctor--John Hurt
12. First Doctor--William Hartnell
11. Eighth Doctor-- Paul McGann
10. Fifth Doctor--Peter Davison
9. Twelfth Doctor-- Peter Capaldi
8. Ninth Doctor--Christopher Eccleston
7. Sixth Doctor--Colin Baker
6. Eleventh Doctor--Matt Smith
5. Tenth Doctor-- David Tennant
4. Seventh Doctor-- Sylvester McCoy
3. Second Doctor--Patrick Troughton
2. Fourth Doctor--Tom Baker
1. Third Doctor-- Jon Pertwee
My list
1. David Tennant
2. Peter Capaldi
3. Tom Baker
4.Matt Smith
5. Jon Pertwee
6.Christopher Eccleston
7. Sylvester McCoy
8. Peter Davidson
9. Patrick Troughton
10. Colin Baker
11. Paul McGann
12. William Hartnell
13. Jodie Whittaker
I put that gap to show how far apart in quality Hartnell and Whittaker are.
Wait... Week after week!"
BTW, could you make a video related to Big Finish (if you ever heard the stories, they're great!)? Maybe companions, like Evelyn Smythe (the best).
Great videos, love your channel!
My favourite Doctor was Patrick Troughton as he had the biggest impact on Dr Who if you think about it. He Introduced Jelly Babies, Bow Ties, Sonic Screwdriver, Braces, “I see you have done the Tardis up a bit hmmm I don’t like it”, The 3 Year rule and most importantly Regeneration.
Time Lords as well, solidified the Cybermen as a major villain too
Exactly so in that sense you could argue he had a Impact on the show then Tom Baker did but Tom Baker had a bigger impact on the audience and the fans
@@siriusblack7663 In terms of the show as a whole, Troughton definitely did but in terms of playing the character itself, Tom took that part to another level
Wingy Media That’s very true
I don’t agree with a lot of your rankings, but I respect your opinion.
Great video man! As much as I politely disagree with a few choices and positions you still made it convincing enough for my to agree with you!
See tennant is probably one of if not my favorite doctor but i can still see your reasoning.
Since nu who came on I found it so different to what I was used to I regarded it as two seperate shows.
so classic in order of favourites 1 tom Baker 2 Jon Pertwee 3 Patrick Troughton 4 William Hartnell 5 Peter Davison 6 Sylvester MC coy 7 Colin Baker
Nu Who 1 Capaldi, 2 Matt Smith 3 Christopher Eccelton 4 David Tennant 5 Paul McGann (only due to lack of stories) 6 War doctor (ditto)
I have been watching these for awhile everyones entitled to their opinion, but any list that has the great one in their top 5 I wont argue with!
Love ur top 10. Ot has inspired me to do one as well.
Nine is and will always be my favourite Doctor.
I hadn’t really watched Classic Who over the years but I’ve watched a lot of Pertwee recently and now I feel my favourite will change every day
5. Patrick Troughton
4. Jon Pertwee
3. David Tennant
2. Tom Baker
1. Matt Smith
13: The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith is a great actor, but he got just the worst writing)
12: The War Doctor
11: The Eighth Doctor
10: The Sixth Doctor
9: The Twelfth Doctor
8: The Seventh Doctor
7: The First Doctor
6: The Fifth Doctor
5: The Ninth Doctor
4: The Tenth Doctor (purely for nostalgia)
3: The Fourth Doctor
2: The Third Doctor
1: The Second Doctor
My ranking:
Third- Pertwee
Tenth- Tennant
Forth- T. Baker
Second/Ninth (can't choose)- Troughton/Eccleston
Sixth- C. Baker
Seventh- McCoy
Twelfth- Capaldi
Eighth- McGann
Fifth- Davison
Eleventh- Smith
First- Hartnell
Thirteenth- Whittaker
I don't think anyone has played a bad doctor so its a very tough list after the top 5.
Top three
3.7 (season 25 and 26)
2.2
1.4
“What awonderful Butler he’s so violent”
That's my favourite quote from the 4th doctor!😁
Best first, worst last. Note - Depending on mood, Doctors can move up and down several places.
3, 4, 2, 1, 5, 8, 6, 7, War, 9, 12, 11, 10, 13. Sometimes 4 is above 3, or 1 is above 2. Or 2 is above 4.
How kind! At least compared to how much usually don't like me :(
I COULD DO SO MUCH MORE IT'S NOT FAIR
God 10 was annoying.
He's definitely the most overrated Doctor (save for Jodie Whittaker.)
Agreed, as an actor he has two modes. Glib comedy or acting through his teeth with heavy breathing
Azura Bayta because he only lived 6 years (i think) while for example 11 lived for hundreds of years
I remember at the time quite liking that scene, that it made him not a good-guy hero, and undercut the noble sacrifice/ dignity in death tropes that get tiresome.
I kind of appreciated that he had this undertone of insufferable hubris and solipsism that made him kind of unlikeable.
...I don’t think I was really supposed to get that out of it, though.
My top 5 favourite Doctors are:
1. David Tennant (my favourite).
2. Jon Pertwee.
3. Tom Baker.
4. Matt Smith.
5. Christopher Eccleston.
I don't know where I'd rank the other Doctors, but I like them all.
I haven't watched yet but tennant last Tom baker first
You are bang on it Charlie , you win the keys to Tom's Tardis
My top five are Seven, One, Eleven, Three and Six. (And I loved Six even before Big Finish, the audios just cemented it.)
Tom is THE Doctor, he is ....from an other planet. The series and the audios are amazing.
2nd. John Hurt, listening to his BFA is awesome...he had such an Energie you can almost see the Doctor, listening to his play...thats how good he was RIP
3rd. Paul McGann... even his worst BFA storys are carried completly by him. He is the Doctor and he allways nails it. Honestly ...every Whovian got chills, the Moment in Night of the Doctor, hearing a voice "Im the Doctor, but probably not the one you expacted" It felt stunning... it was like "yes, yes, yes...17 years"
I really like matt smith
...agreed about Capaldi too. he is my 3rd favourite (Pertwee is my 2nd), but even with terrible stories, he was the best of the nu-Who mob.
Haven't yet watched the classics except 8 (I started Doctor Who about 2 months ago) but here's my list based entirely on the TV show:
3. David Tennant: The most human doctor
2. Peter Capaldi: the best actor to touch the role
