You want a good historical moment with aliens involved in classic Doctor Who, I loved The Chase, where Daleks scare everyone off of the Mary Celeste. Also, the fact that they caused Nero to burn down Rome. That was hilarious.

When you do a list like this you should really give a brief summary of the plot of the episode that you are taking about before you go into your analysis. I know that I can't always remember what the episode was about just from the title. These were shows that I watched decades ago.
I wonder how many of my subscribers thought of me when Power of Kroll showed up on the list. 😂😆. I have well known dislike of it. Pure historicals are up and down for me. I love reign of terror, but don’t care for black orchid.
From what I understand the main reason that the script of Time and the Rani is so bad is that writers Pip and Jane Baker delivered the script later than required, but just refused to make any of the adjustments incoming script editor Andrew Cartmel wanted, even with added pressure from JNT. As such the script pretty much went into production as was, due to it being so late in the day that there was no chance of getting a replacement script.
Wow, putting Leisure Hive on there really pulled my feet from under the rug (sorry, you made me laugh when you said that!). The drunk video idea sounds like a hit!
well I like Timelash, Twin Dilemma, Silver Nemesis and Timeflight (Nyssa actually gets quite a big part for once) but I get why people don't like them. Generally speaking I'm not a big fan of pure historicals the gunfighters would be on my list I find it so boring, however I must admit I quite like the Aztecs. I've never been one to care much about the production values for me it just comes down to whether I like a story or not which quite often includes stories that are generally unpopular. I agree Colin Baker is a great Doctor, and like that when you criticised Twin Dilemma you gave context to it as most people try and say that his character is unlikable then I have to explain a regeneration crisis isn't his character. But get your point about it didn't give him the best start in the role.
I’d choose Brain of Morbius over Leisure Hive honestly! And as for Time Flight, hopefully, they’ll at least bloody update the godawful special effects in it eh???
My Top 10 least favourite would be: 1, The Twin Dilemma 2, The Web Planet 3, The Leisure Hive 4, Time-Flight 5, Underworld 6, The Mark of the Rani 7, Timelash 8, The Power of Kroll 9, The Underwater Menace 10, Silver Nemesis
Gotta say I disagree about Curse Of Peladon, the ‘sequel’ sure, but not this one. I love the romance/subterfuge with Jo, the Hammer House Of Horror style of secret passages with monsters, that fight scene is great, and there are so many aliens it’s like a whole episode set in the Stars Wars Mos Eisley bar. Other than that, sure, I can see your point.
I think Silver Nemesis is underrated. I like it as a guilty pleasure. However, I think that Paradise Towers is bad. Really bad. I want to like it but it is just too silly in places and set up is bizarre like Mel wants to go swimming so they go to some random, private pool on the top of some pretty standard flats. I respect people who like it but could someone please explain the appeal of this story to me? Happy New Year. Great Video!
My friends and had always loved _Time Flight_ for being so hilariously crap. That was my first thought when I saw this vid listed: "Wonder what they say about Time Flight!" I've read rumors that JNT would often be uninvolved, but other times give detailed lists to writers, telling them to "Write a story with all of these things in it." And that's exactly what I think _Silver Nemesis_ is, a script made directly from his list. I had some forced enjoyment of it as a kid, later soured on it, and now appreciate it mostly as camp. Not unlike season 24, really. When _Twin Dilemma_ came out I was a teenage edgelord so I loved Colin's portrayal of an unlikeable Doctor. Especially because I found Davison's characterization to be kind of dull, so this was a huge shakeup. (Davison also I appreciate more since Big Finish). Worst thing by far for me was the twins themselves, otherwise it wasn't a bad story or production IMO. Eric Saward (script editor) was a middle-aged tryhard trying to make Who grimdark in hopes to appeal to the 2000AD crowd. _Leisure Hive_ I haven't seen in yonks, but I enjoyed it at the time. I had friends in my teens who slept over at each other's houses on Friday nights and watch Doctor Who around noon on Saturdays, when they'd show a whole story. We were completely caught off guard by the new intro! The new vibe and production style were a nice change then. I like that the season has a lot of weirdness, which I though was mostly lacking in later JNT seasons.
I think Time and the Rani is one of McCoy’s best episodes - I hate most of his episodes especially Paradise Towers, Happiness Patrol, Ghost Light and Survival. The Rani is a strong villain, the Tetraps are pretty good monsters and some of the special effects are pretty good like those globe mines. I recall that the Rani's plan was actually pretty interesting too. If the episode had featured Colin Baker as originally intended, I think it would be more fondly remembered.
Glad I'm not the only person bored by Curse of Peladon. But I think Time Flight is generally fun. Professor Hayter is delightfully ill-tempered in the great Dr Who/Blakes 7 tradition of grumpy science experts and the crew of Concorde are having way too much fun. As for Adric, I think dwelling on his loss would have made things worse, not better.
Great list! For me, the worst of classic who is: Mark of the Rani The invasion of time The Armageddon factor Timelash The masque of Mandragora Silver nemesis Time and the Rani The Leisure hive The dominators Time flight
Oh come on Alex! I love the historicals, Timelash, The Power Of Kroll, Silver Nemesis, and The Leisure Hive. I’m being totally serious, these are all favorites. Always fun to see your very opposite opinions.
Don't worry about tachyonics - it's not a real thing. It's just made-up "technobabble" by Christopher Bidmead, assuming he didn't get it from some other sci-fi source. (Tachyons are hypothetical particles that can theoretically travel faster than light, but they probably don't exist either.)
Time Lash, suffers as Paul Darrow was deliberately overacting as he thought Colin had done that in Blake 7, as Banin the Bold, or something. Not a great outcome for either...
Nemesis has a phoned in plot, Cybermen killed by gold headed arrows and catapult fired coins, really? Gold is supposed to suffocate them, not cause them to explode. De Flores group is just there to be killed and it is basically Remembrance Of The Cybermen. Some decent bits Lady Peinforte & Richard and Sylvester & Sophie enjoy some unnecessary but well acted downtime scenes together. I really like Time Flight once we get the Master out of his unnecessary/pointless disguise I really like AA and we have a strong Master performance, it’s a great story because of the Master it suffers with production values for the concord showing on set.
"Tachyonics" is made up, although tachyons are real things. The writer just adopted a scientific buzzword, like they did with dark matter in Planet of Evil.
Time and the Rani is a very weird story. It has some enjoyable moments but they don't add up to even a bearable experience. Yes Time and the Rani is the worst. The only thing that could have been worse would have been if Dimensions in Time was considered canon. In fact Dimensions in Time could be on a list of the worst 10 program to air on television!
Happy New Year 2022 Wingy Media 😊 I’m excited for all the new videos coming out this year and I wish you all the health and happiness in the world! But with that said, have you heard of the news that the Sea Devils will come back in the 13th Doctor era? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
I unabashedly love the Peladon Stories, so Curse wouldn't be anywhere near the worst for me. Silver Nemesis wouldn't make a top 10 list for me either, and yet I completely agree with all of Wingy's criticisms here: there's too much going on for 3 episodes, it wastes some of that runtime on a jazz performance and a non-royal cameo, and for a 25th anniversary story featuring my favourite doctor and my favourite enemy it's somehow underwhelming. As others have pointed out, pure historicals actually start quite well with Marco Polo and The Aztecs, but it is all downhill from there. You could swap out those stories for any from The Krotons, The Dominators, The Space Pirates, The Mutants, The Sun Makers or about half of the sleep-inducing Davison era.
Time flight and possibly time of the rani, are guilty pleasures. Time flight has a kind of cheesy so bad it's Good likea camp horror and I never find it boring
I love Colin Baker as the Doctor in classic terms, and I will admit he was written as shit in his Twin Dilemma outing. But regardless of the twins, I did like Mestor as a villain and I liked Azmael as a fellow Time Lord. So Twin Dilemma for me, personally, is not that bad. And I LOVED the extra detail put into the novelization!
I never liked either of the "Peladon" stories but, I did like Alpha Centauri (the talking penis). "The Time Monster" is great but, as you said, until they go to Atlantis. The scene towards the end with The Master grovelling is so cringe and out of character. Overall though, this story for me is a guilty pleasure. I really liked the TARDIS interior on this with the big roundels. Found it amusing that The Master had the same interior too. Can't really disagree with much that you said. "Timelash" was when I stopped recording and just gave up after Part 1. It's absolute shit!
If I had to pick the worst from each classic Doctor: Hartnell: The Space Museum Troughton: The Dominators Pertwee: The Time Monster T.Baker: The Invasion of Time Davison: Time Flight C.Baker: The Twin Dilemma McCoy: Time and the Rani Shame you don't like the pure historicals, you need to get hooked on real history! 🤣
All correct except for Invasion Of Time. Swap that for Underworld and I'd agree 100%. Although Space Museum does have Hartnell's brilliant interrogation scene.
What would you say to a Historical episode with no aliens, but a story about having to make sure history went the way we know it, like if the Doctor and companion weren't there, history would change significantly and pose a major threat to the future? I'm not a pure historicals person either, we all know they happen off screen anyway. And I know it's unfair to mention this, but apparently, even if we had it in full, The Space Pirates would still be awful. I also really dislike Silver Nemesis, but then I'm not a fan of the archetypal "'80s" Cybermen from Revenge of the Cybermen to Silver Nemesis. I don't like their voices, those earmuff heads are really stupid and they're just too Human. They just feel like men in suits.
My bottom 12 (list made before watching this video, and I couldn't get the list down to 10....these are stories I will likely never, ever watch again under any circumstances), and in no specific order, kinda. Well it is in order at time of writing but likely to change monthly. 12. Monster of Peladon 11. Silver Nemesis 10. Castrovalva 9. The Mutants 8. Warriors of the Deep 7. Underworld 6. Time and the Rani 5. The Armageddon Factor 4. Warrior's Gate 3. Timelash 2. The Twin Dilemma 1. The Leisure Hive (and although I said my order was somewhat fluid, this one is indeed the worse classic story of all for me, and will never lose the #1 slot of shame)
10 black orchid 9 resurrections of the daleks 8 twin dilemma 7 day of the daleks 6 snakedance 5 time and rani 4 inferno 3 four to doomsday 2 logopolis 1 revenge of the cybermen
Just curious, do you include The Gunfighters as a purely historical here because for years I've been told it's the worst classic Who story. Still have not watched it because of that! I personally liked Silver Nemesis but I would not put it real high either.
You're missing out on a treat if you haven't watched The Gunfighters yet because of the reputation a handful of humourless fans gave it over a decade ago. Do yourself a favour and check it out!
I find the early historical stories stronger then the science ones with a few expectations on both sides I found myself laughing with the story on audio The Highlanders with Patrick Troughton and would show the biggest contribution to the Troughton era Jamie they are some considerable dark stories in season 3 of Doctor who which all lead to a major Historcial events I was surprised to find curse of peladon in my list it is in my top ten along with these great stories Pryamids Of Mars, City Of death, Curse of Fenric, Enlightenment, the caves of Androzani, masque of mandragiria, The silurians , Ghost Light, Curse of peladon and The Evil Of The Daleks. I am not a big fan around these stories Warrior's Gate, Snakedance, The space pirates, planet of Giants, Delta and the Bannerman, the web planet. only 6 stories. I do like silver nemesis it could of been a four parter, it's too rushed but a find Remberance Of the Daleks a stronger candidate for the 25th anniversary story than silver nemesis was. Time and the Rani , the Twin dielemma and time flight I thought are okay. not great but okay.
i dont get the hate for silver nemesis what so ever honestly after listening to what you have to say , its not that hard to follow and i think it wouldve suffered from being longer.
In no particular order: Reign of Terror King's Demons Warriors of the Deep Revenge of the Cybermen Planet of Evil Underworld Time-Flight Mark of the Rani Time and the Rani Doctor Who: The Movie Bonus shite: parts 2-4 of An Unearthly Child aka 100,000BC + also, whilst objectively it's one of the best, I hate Genesis with a fking passion (apart from the 4 vs Davros bits)
1. Anything from Season 17. 2. Time and the Rani 3. Delta and the Bannermen 4. Paradise Towers 5. Time-Flight 6. Four to Doomsday 7. Underworld 8. Terminus 9. Warriors' Gate 10. Snakedance
Stuff like 'creature from the pit' mark a real low point in terms of script and 'production values', and deserve at least an honourable mention in terms of crapness. The same goes for 'horns of nimon' I think - couldn't finish it. On the other hand 'The time monster' is at least quite well made and IMO silly but at least entertaining.
Creature From The Pit and Horns Of Nimon are top entertainment, the stories that The Time Monster should have been,. They are almost the definition of silly but entertaining. If you didn't finish Horns then you missed out because you missed Soldeed's death scene.
I’d LOVE a drunk Who video. I think you should watch Melos or the Gunfighters drunk. As for the worst stories, for me Underworld is my least favorite. It’s so dull and brown. It’s not even nice to look at. I don’t mind that everything is CSO and looks cheap. I hate that it all looks like mud. It’s incredibly boring. Even Tom and Louise look bored. Curse of Peladon us only 4 parts? It felt like it was a longer story. I can understand why you dislike it so much. Krill is dog shit. That’s another story that is incredibly boring and is good for insomnia. The Time Monster made me laugh many times. Yet at the end I found myself struggling to finish it. As to the Tegan and Nyssa not reacting to the death of Adric, you shouldn’t have been that surprised considering how quickly they got over the death of a dear Aunt, father, and whole planet in minutes in Logopolis. 😃
I agree with most of this list I don't enjoy most of the historicals and generally don't revisit them. The exception being "the Romans" which Is a bit of fun Curse of peladon also bores me, I've never understood why it's do highly regarded I have always found time and the Rani to be fun , even though I can see the flaws in it.
Have you watched any B&W stories? Surely The Web Planet and The Sensorites both must qualify as some of the most boring episodes ever. Web Planet is an embarrassment, and many fans detest The Gunfighters (although I have a soft spot for it).

I’d love to see you watch Doctor Who drunk.
Sadly, I think Paul Darrow hammed up Maylin Tekker as he felt Colin had hammed up being Bayban in City at the Edge of The World.
I'd like to see your favorite Big Finish stories. And I get why people don't like the historicals, but I do myself.
My Top 10 least favourite would be:
1, The Twin Dilemma
2, The Web Planet
3, The Leisure Hive
4, Time-Flight
5, Underworld
6, The Mark of the Rani
7, Timelash
8, The Power of Kroll
9, The Underwater Menace
10, Silver Nemesis
Gotta say I disagree about Curse Of Peladon, the ‘sequel’ sure, but not this one. I love the romance/subterfuge with Jo, the Hammer House Of Horror style of secret passages with monsters, that fight scene is great, and there are so many aliens it’s like a whole episode set in the Stars Wars Mos Eisley bar. Other than that, sure, I can see your point.
The Time Monster? No way. Love that one.
I adore Paradise Towers but the scene where Mel actually makes it to the pool is probably the worst one in that story.
Happy New Year Wingy!
I personally think Timelash is by far Colin's best story, I love it.
What? Why?
I remember enjoying it when I first watched it as well. I don't remember much about the story itself though, just liked the concepts in it.
It’s bad, but it’s such a fun story to watch and laugh in hysterics at.
You lost me at "I hate pure historicals". Pure historicals are beautiful.
My friends and had always loved _Time Flight_ for being so hilariously crap. That was my first thought when I saw this vid listed: "Wonder what they say about Time Flight!"
I've read rumors that JNT would often be uninvolved, but other times give detailed lists to writers, telling them to "Write a story with all of these things in it." And that's exactly what I think _Silver Nemesis_ is, a script made directly from his list.
Great list!
For me, the worst of classic who is:
Mark of the Rani
The invasion of time
The Armageddon factor
Timelash
The masque of Mandragora
Silver nemesis
Time and the Rani
The Leisure hive
The dominators
Time flight
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳
Nemesis has a phoned in plot, Cybermen killed by gold headed arrows and catapult fired coins, really? Gold is supposed to suffocate them, not cause them to explode. De Flores group is just there to be killed and it is basically Remembrance Of The Cybermen. Some decent bits Lady Peinforte & Richard and Sylvester & Sophie enjoy some unnecessary but well acted downtime scenes together.
I really like Time Flight once we get the Master out of his unnecessary/pointless disguise I really like AA and we have a strong Master performance, it’s a great story because of the Master it suffers with production values for the concord showing on set.
I love the pure historicals, the romans is my all time fav classic who story. Also doesn't time travel count as a sci-fi element?
That’s a good point :)
Yes - meaning they aren't "pure historical"! A paradox!
Obviously timelash gets a lot of hate, but I'd say Timeflight, Twin Dilemma, Time and the Rani and Fear Her are all worse.
Happy New Year 2022 Wingy Media 😊
I’m excited for all the new videos coming out this year and I wish you all the health and happiness in the world!
But with that said, have you heard of the news that the Sea Devils will come back in the 13th Doctor era? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
I wanna see watching doctor who drunk feel like it would be so funny(love your content keep it up)
Watch Doctor Who drunk, fuckin' do it lad! 😀
Yes do that get drunk
I met Colin Baker, too, I had my picture taken with him.
Twin dilemma is the worst for me. Probably because its a shitty introduction to a new doctor. Time and the Rani is crap too.
Do it! A drunk watch. Go live and I'll join you! 😃
Time flight and possibly time of the rani, are guilty pleasures. Time flight has a kind of cheesy so bad it's Good likea camp horror and I never find it boring
Agree totally about time flight.
I would love for you to start a drunk doctor who watch series, please start that 😂
I love Colin Baker as the Doctor in classic terms, and I will admit he was written as shit in his Twin Dilemma outing. But regardless of the twins, I did like Mestor as a villain and I liked Azmael as a fellow Time Lord. So Twin Dilemma for me, personally, is not that bad. And I LOVED the extra detail put into the novelization!
Time-Flight was a mistake
I never liked either of the "Peladon" stories but, I did like Alpha Centauri (the talking penis). "The Time Monster" is great but, as you said, until they go to Atlantis. The scene towards the end with The Master grovelling is so cringe and out of character. Overall though, this story for me is a guilty pleasure. I really liked the TARDIS interior on this with the big roundels. Found it amusing that The Master had the same interior too. Can't really disagree with much that you said. "Timelash" was when I stopped recording and just gave up after Part 1. It's absolute shit!
I called believe you're calling Curse of Peladon bad
I would take off silver nemesis and replace it with galaxy 4 I agree with the rest off them
Excuse you? The Aztecs are one of the best stories ever! Shame, shame.
Drunk whostory Podcast is starting up. They formed on twitter about a week ago
If I had to pick the worst from each classic Doctor:
Hartnell: The Space Museum
Troughton: The Dominators
Pertwee: The Time Monster
T.Baker: The Invasion of Time
Davison: Time Flight
C.Baker: The Twin Dilemma
McCoy: Time and the Rani
Shame you don't like the pure historicals, you need to get hooked on real history!
12. Monster of Peladon
11. Silver Nemesis
10. Castrovalva
9. The Mutants
8. Warriors of the Deep
7. Underworld
6. Time and the Rani
5. The Armageddon Factor
4. Warrior's Gate
3. Timelash
2. The Twin Dilemma
1. The Leisure Hive (and although I said my order was somewhat fluid, this one is indeed the worse classic story of all for me, and will never lose the #1 slot of shame)
10 black orchid
9 resurrections of the daleks
8 twin dilemma
7 day of the daleks
6 snakedance
5 time and rani
4 inferno
3 four to doomsday
2 logopolis
1 revenge of the cybermen
Just curious, do you include The Gunfighters as a purely historical here because for years I've been told it's the worst classic Who story. Still have not watched it because of that! I personally liked Silver Nemesis but I would not put it real high either.
You're missing out on a treat if you haven't watched The Gunfighters yet because of the reputation a handful of humourless fans gave it over a decade ago. Do yourself a favour and check it out!
@@oliverraven I plan to. I'm soon going to start from the very first episode and watch all the way through to the current!
Drunk reaction - GO!!
2:00, I agree the historical ones are kinda shit but the aztecs was the first hartnell story I saw so it holds a special place in my heart
In no particular order:
Reign of Terror
King's Demons
Warriors of the Deep
Revenge of the Cybermen
Planet of Evil
Underworld
Time-Flight
Mark of the Rani
Time and the Rani
Doctor Who: The Movie
Bonus shite: parts 2-4 of An Unearthly Child aka 100,000BC + also, whilst objectively it's one of the best, I hate Genesis with a fking passion (apart from the 4 vs Davros bits)
1. Anything from Season 17.
2. Time and the Rani
3. Delta and the Bannermen
4. Paradise Towers
5. Time-Flight
6. Four to Doomsday
7. Underworld
8. Terminus
9. Warriors' Gate
10. Snakedance
Mines are Snakedance, Kinda, Happiness Patrol sorry these just to boring stories. 😴
Great video, as always, drunk reactions, yes please!
AVON LIVES!
I agree with most of this list
I don't enjoy most of the historicals and generally don't revisit them. The exception being "the Romans" which Is a bit of fun
Curse of peladon also bores me, I've never understood why it's do highly regarded
I have always found time and the Rani to be fun , even though I can see the flaws in it.
Have you watched any B&W stories? Surely The Web Planet and The Sensorites both must qualify as some of the most boring episodes ever. Web Planet is an embarrassment, and many fans detest The Gunfighters (although I have a soft spot for it).
Apparently "The Gunfighters" is one of Nicholas Briggs' favourite episodes, but I have no clue that's true or not.
He's implicitly included Gunfighters in his first choice. I think it's OK (no pun intended) ... apart from that song!
#JusticeForTimelash 😄
