INTERESTING FACT: The Essene Jews lived in the time of Josephus. They rejected the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem because they didn’t like the teachings. The Qumran was seen as the second Solomon Temple Priesthood. Unlike other Jews the Essenes priests were celibate and vegetarians. The Essenes originated from a Dharmic religion of Jainism. The earliest written references mentioning Jesus date to about 30 years after the crucifixion, by Saint Paul who was a pharisee, and participated in the persecution of the early disciples of Jesus. You are correct in some aspect David.. Paul who’s real name was Saul, Saul of Tarsus was a Roman citizen. We are all sons and daughters of God. After studying Hinduism and Yoga for years I'm no longer interested in any religions that come from the West. Allegory is a word misused even by scholars. Originally referring to a mode of interpretation of pagan mythology, which never attained popularity because it requires throwing out the literal meaning of the text. People didn't write allegories they interpreted pagan mythology allegorically. Not until modern times did people set out out to write allegorically and because they didn't understand the history of the word, or just didn't care about consistency and accuracy.
Allegory is a word people only use, strange enough, if THEY DON'T know what it means according to history. Otherwise it has no use. People generally don't respect a type of interpretation that outright rejects the factuality of the words it interprets, for obvious reasons.

The major problems I have with the argument that Jesus was created by Roman rulers is: #1 They base their argument on how one book survived #2 If Roman rulers really created Christianity why were they sacrificing Christians in the Gladiator games? 3,000ish according to online sources. #3 In 304, Rome decreed that all Christians sacrifice to the pagan gods or face death. Following Diocletian's retirement in 305, a civil war broke out to determine his successor. It raged on for almost a decade. Even so, the persecution of Christians continued. Conclusion: Putting people to death publicly was and still is done to discourage others. In this case discourage others from becoming Christian. With that said, Christianity was perverted and weaponized from the original version by the Emperor Constantine. Once the Roman monarchy realised they could not suppress Christianity, the most logical solution was to alter Christianity and weaponize Christianity. So in my educated opinion, Jesus did exist and the story about his life and the major events of his life after he proclaimed himself "king of the Jews" (Christ), also true. The fact that the Roman monarchy spun the narrative that Jesus did not plan his crucifixion (by altering his opinion) and that it was all the fault of the Jews, fit well if the Roman Empires Anti-Semitic politicises that the Roman Catholic and other Christian church continued. Churches not created by Jesus might I add.

I don't think Jesus ever proclaimed himself "the king of the Jew" but he claimed to be the Son of God upon the crowd and the Chief Priest. The Roman Governor called him the King of the Jews. Do I believe that Titus was the return of jesus and all that?...No, I do not and is quite the stretch in the video...But from what I have read, I find it truly plausible that a roman author might have had an input in writing the new testemant. I dont know; it is definitely extremely intriguing and compelling if it is a Flavian PsyOp, but, after reading the critiques written by Richard Carrier and Robert Price (Ehrman has one too, just havent read it yet), I am not so sure that this PsyOp isnt anything more than an interesting guess at Christian Origins but way overplayed its hand. Why would the Gospels be written in Greek to a Jewish audience instead of Hebrew or Aramaic a la the Dead Sea Scrolls? Why would the Gospels differ on basic facts like Matt 1 and Luke 3 do with Jesus' genealogy? Why is John's gospel so different if the Flavians controlled the story? Some of their connections seem incredibly cool, like the fish and the anchor, but other connections seem more like parallelomania to me. Anyways, just my thoughts. It's still interesting to interact with and to learn from and about it.

Here's the biggest question I have about this idea that they never addressed: If Jesus Christ was supposedly a Roman invention, how do you explain Christians being persecuted by the Roman state into the 4th century? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Also, if the Flavians supposedly invented Jesus and Christianity, why did they need and, indeed continue to, endorse and practice the Imperial Cult that directly contradicts Jesus' own claims about the nature of his divinity, his relationship to God the Father (the Jewish Yahweh), and his stated purpose for his followers? What seems more likely based on ALL of the historical evidence (especially the fact that Christians were persecuted by the Roman state both before and after the Flavian dynasty) is that the Roman state gradually co-opted and corrupted the original Christian movement in order to control it. That doesn't mean Jesus wasn't a real person or that he was invented by the Romans.

I do not believe Atwill's proposition. However, some parts of the Roman influence, such as the way the books are blatantly written to remove the responsibilty for punishing and killing Jesus away from the Romans, and place it on the Jews. This is obvious for the uncoached-minded reader, and it is historical and factual. It is also obvious the reason Paul became popular, was that he in his own words, "taught what gentiles (then and today) itching ears wanted to hear."

Catholic Church did not land in India for hundreds of years later. With that said, Christianity was perverted and weaponized from the original version by the Emperor Constantine. Once the Roman monarchy realised they could not suppress Christianity, the most logical solution was to alter Christianity and weaponize Christianity. So in my educated opinion, Jesus did exist and the story about his life and the major events of his life after he proclaimed himself "king of the Jews" (Christ), also true. The Chief Priest actually protested to not write the KOJ. The early christians before Constantine had never called themselves Christians. They were called the "They Way" or "The Nazarene". Many Nazaren were killed, imprisoned, and used for entertainment in the Gladiator Arenas, and fed to the lions because of their beliefs. I stopped judging people on their race, gender, status, preferences... basically stopped judging people, period. There's no more "will God judge me for this" but instead "will this be good for my fellow people and the earth we live in?" thinking.

As an athiest, I have always thought that the Romans had a lot to do with the creation of the Bible to some degree, and I have tried to find any historical proof of Jesus...This presentation fills in a lot of gaps for me, and it's very well done. The last bit about Typology and Titus seemed to be something of a stretch...everything else was brilliant.

Wether he actually did or not? Who knows...but the only 2 Historical accounts of Jesus is Josephus and Tacitus and both were written quite a while after Jesus's supposed death. Do I believe that Titus was the return of jesus and all that?...No, I do not and is quite the stretch in the video...But from what I have read, I find it truly plausible that a roman author might have had an input in writing the new testemant. My comment above for the documentary being "Brilliant" was because it was well made and thought provoking...thats it....it's not dogma to me...just interesting theories is all...To me Keeping an open mind is one the tenents of athiesm.....to not get trapped in the dogma and to let others make up their own mind.

Just the oppisite, I would like to think that most athiests are open minded and good, moral people....that example alone is a good way to demonstrate that you don't need religion or belief to be a good person. At least that is my goal...Also, I don't force my non belief system on anyone...I will certainly talk to someone if they want to, but I believe some athiests like to "Preach" athieism and actually act just as bad as some fanatic religious people...and to me thats just as bad.

I find this documentary highly compelling. It is the sort of detailed exposition we may have felt entitled to in the 21st century, taking account of all the technological resources now available to us. I am sure it will help a lot of people.
It will only help those with an open mind and for those who have extensively researched history. The rest will simply cling to their bible for dear life claiming these people are deceivers while offering no other counter proof aside from words in the bible itself.

I dont know; it is definitely extremely intriguing and compelling if it is a Flavian PsyOp, but, after reading the critiques written by Richard Carrier and Robert Price (Ehrman has one too, just havent read it yet), I am not so sure that this PsyOp isnt anything more than an interesting guess at Christian Origins but way overplayed its hand. Why would the Gospels be written in Greek to a Jewish audience instead of Hebrew or Aramaic a la the Dead Sea Scrolls? Why would the Gospels differ on basic facts like Matt 1 and Luke 3 do with Jesus' genealogy? Why is John's gospel so different if the Flavians controlled the story? Some of their connections seem incredibly cool, like the fish and the anchor, but other connections seem more like parallelomania to me. Anyways, just my thoughts. It's still interesting to interact with and to learn from and about it.

The video doesnt say Rome wrote the gospels , it says the Flavians wrote the gospel, big difference, if it is too much for you to swallow, fine, but let the smart people who are not satisfied by the legends of the gospel as historical source, have a more inquisitive look at it and try to find more plausible explanations. Here's the biggest question I have about this idea that they never addressed: If Jesus Christ was supposedly a Roman invention, how do you explain Christians being persecuted by the Roman state into the 4th century? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Also, if the Flavians supposedly invented Jesus and Christianity, why did they need and, indeed continue to, endorse and practice the Imperial Cult that directly contradicts Jesus' own claims about the nature of his divinity, his relationship to God the Father (the Jewish Yahweh), and his stated purpose for his followers?
What seems more likely based on ALL of the historical evidence (especially the fact that Christians were persecuted by the Roman state both before and after the Flavian dynasty) is that the Roman state gradually co-opted and corrupted the original Christian movement in order to control it. That doesn't mean Jesus wasn't a real person or that he was invented by the Romans.
Actually, if you watch & listen again you will see that the documentary does in fact mention early Christian persecution by the Romans & an explanation is offered.
