It appears if your brake light stops working most likely culprit is water leaking by the housing seal common in these models for years ford has not fixed this issue now when your LED brake shorts out you have to replace the housing for $6to 700 dollars good job Ford. Not.
Great video. Only complaint is taking the clip off, could really see where you were prying it off from, but it made sense when you put it back on where it comes from. Thanks for a good video!
Yes it was hard to see that part. I finally got the harness off and I'm going to sand down that clip a bit just in case I ever have to do this again. There's no tension on that wire harness, don't know why its made so hard to get off.
On a 2017 Ford Escape, some water had gotten past the clear plastic cover and the brake lights stopped working. Bummer. After cleaning some of what I could see such as the running light (clear bulb) socket - the brake lights mostly work on the left side. But not on the right side! On the left there are three "levels" to the brake light and two are on strong - one sort of flashes. On the right side there are still no brake lights. I did drill some small, unobstrusive, drain holes in the clear plastic cover and I am gonna see if they help keep the brake lights on the left side working. But I would still like to access the LED lights on the right (and left) side but that is not possible??? The earlier versions of the Escape have regular bulbs, not the LED ones. Can we replace the 2017 assembly with an assembly for an earlier version - to get brake light bulbs that are not LEDs???

@@DonOmarRamiro I bought two replacement assemblies on line and replaced them, this was MUCH less than Ford was gonna charge. I am gonna cut the old ones apart and look at the LEDs, check back in a few days. And certainly the LEDs use a lot less current than the older incandescent bulbs so the harness is probably not the same. So you probably cannot use an older assembly, with all incandescent bulbs, in the newer Escapes. Bummer.

thats for a turn signal bulb, correct? I thought the taillight/brake light was LED. Seems like most of the newer vehicles you have so much fun trying to get the taillight housing off the vehicle.
So what do you do to replace the LED break light. If you say that the whole light housing has to be replaced for $600.00 + mechanic cost I will get rid of my Ford SUV and my Ford f350 and never have anything to do with Ford ever goodbye

@@hayseedautos the two bulbs you show in your video are not for the brake light. One is a running light and the big bulb is the turn signal. So the actual brake lights must be non-serviceable LEDs if I’m understanding correctly
He did not make it difficult, it was absolutely realistic. I cursed out the Ford engineers for making it so fu*king difficult to remove the yellow/reverse bulb. A minor modification on the holder for the main plug was all it needed.

Kevin O'Neil I drill a small hole in the assembly to keep it drained of water.
