The original 1932 Karloff film was a classc horror movie, certainly not a "fun adventure" Universal needs to get back to what made these monsters famous in the 1st place.
I actually went to the cinema to watch two movies. I watched The Mummy first and I slept halfway through the movie (I was not tired at all) And then I went to watch WW for the second time in a week.
I finally got to see this movie and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Still wasn't an A movie but I actually had fun watching it and will watch it again. I hope they don't give up, I hope they keep the cast and just focus on filling the gaps sorta speak. I've been sub'd to you for almost a year now I just wanted to say you give the realest reviews. You never overly nit pick a movie and you know how to rate a movie based on what it was intended to be. So many critics on youtube are over the top with nit picking the plot and often miss the point of the movie because they expect it should be more like something else they liked and had pre-compared it to.
I didn't hate the new Mummy film, it did need a better story. The first two mummy films are some of my favorite adventure films, they should went for more of a theme like those. I did enjoy parts but it hard to remember and having a hero who is first he's semi-unkillable and then the power to resurrect people really takes away from any type of risk for his close friends. Sure if you got to pick powers he be a great choice to be superhero but to watch in a monster movie not so impactful when everyone has a safety net
My favorite monster movie of all time is an American werewolf in London. It's actually my favorite movie of all time. So if that does not count anymore then I would say my favorite monster movie of all time is the thing the version that came out in the 80s
What ever video equipment you are using, it looks very clear. The lighting is perfect. Thanks for the video. I always look forward to them. Love your sense of humor.
This is really turning to be a summer of underwhelming potential blockbusters... With the expection of Wonder Woman & GOTG 2... Kinda dissapointed with Hollywood.. Favourite monster movie is actually a animated one !! Monster's INC.(Does that count ??! 😂😅😆)
Yeah, It comes at Night definitely looks a well crafted flick... I'm thinking of giving that a watch over The Mummy this weekend.. 🤔 At least that wouldn't be underwhelming...
The horror elements worked well for me, but they tried to hard to make it a giant blockbuster, when a small film with more focus on character development and story would've worked better for this kind of material. They need to rewatch their classic movies, and try again.
Honestly John, I would have liked to have seen Dr. Jekyl to be kinda of like The Hulk when he turns, and yes, it would have been the same like Van Helsing's Dr. Jekyl and Hyde. But I would like to see another threat added to the movie that man would've have had a hard time to stop. plus his is the leader in the secret organization. That is great he is the lead but at the same time he can't really control himself. With the exception of his secret serum.
Good review. I doubt we'll be seen this "Dark Universe" launch judging by the really bad reviews for this movie. 17% on RottenTomatoes, 22 Negative User reviews on Metacritic (and rising undoubtedly), I have a feeling this movie will tank harder then "Power Rangers". Judging by the trailers for this movie, you're right about it being wasted potential. I feel this movie would've been better if it were more on par with the original 1932 "The Mummy" with Boris Karloff and the 1959 Hammer remake of the same title. Cut out the Indiana Jones-esque action, probably have Imhotep and Kharis in the same movie, and make it a more suspensful and horror oriented movie again, maybe with a little blood for good measure. Shame they wound up recycling the same stuff we saw in the 1999 movie, minus most of the humor.
I recently found out that ridley Scott wrote a sequel to gladiator for Russel Crowe about 5 years after the original and they shelved it. Ridley said that he maybe too old now for it but the idea was that they were going to bring him back from the dead (Elysium) now that would of been a sequel I want to see
Tom Cruise was brilliant in the film The Mummy!! His role in the film was comical at times, witty as usual, with a slight of peppered sarcasm but at times his performance was very emotionally driven, depicting a man conflicted with a curse which had no cure and his soul doomed to the deepest abyss of Hell.
Damn it I believed John about the airplane crash for a second, because it's TOM CRUSE! He hung on the side of a plane for gods sake, that would be one way to top it.
😂😂 LOL at Johns face in the thumbnail as well as every time he shows Tom Cruise laughing and saying, "Yeah, he's a thief." I kinda wanna see this movie because I love Sofia Boutella but at the same time I think I'll just wait until its out on home video to rent or watch on Netflix. My favourite monster movie would have to be Pacific Rim though they're technically Kaiju but also giant monsters, too.
I think chris gave a similar rating... but i'm still excited to go see it because of Tom Cruise. Thing is i'm not a tom cruise fan but he is very entertaining to watch these days... when he isn't too cocky in the older MIs
I had the same experience watching this movie, Russel Crowe's patt was indeed the most interesting part of the movie. I'd rather watch the Brenden Fraiser mummy, more entertaining and story driven. This mummy was more about high action stunt sequences build around Tom Cruise, a missed opertunity. C- is the right score for this film.
Have you seen the original MUMMY with Boris Karloff? As a film fan and reviewer, you must! Please review the original Mummy! Put some classics into the mix, brother!
Dude, I'd rather you be honest then just always positive about something. And now, Quotes from the REAL Mummy movie: "Do you swear!?" "Every damn day" *they open the Book of the Dead. Fire flickers* "...That happens a lot around here."
You spoiled who Russell Crowe is. Don't do that. I like Bram Stoker's Dracula and American Werewolf in London very much. The first Brendan Frasier Mummy film is great.
anthony cheesman I watch the reviews after I see the movie . To see what other people thought of the film. Do I agree with their opinion? But I know many watch these reviews before they see the movie.
I just checked out Box Office Mojo and The Mummy has already earned it's budget back and more just from overseas gross. The surprising thing is that The Wolfman had a gross of $150 million while this cost $125 Million. What exactly in The Wolfman cost $150 million? No wonder that film flopped and didn't even make it's budget back - It's budget was way too high for the type of film it was! P.S. Dracula Untold - Budget $70 million - Made over $200 million! When will Hollywood realise that it doesn't matter if a film is amazing if that film cost so much to make that it won't make it's budget back because not enough people are interested? The Wolfman was a Good Movie - Dracula Untold and The Mummy are NOT Good Movies! The Wolfman lost money because it's budget was ridiculously high for a 19th Century style Horror Movie!
I watched this movie today and it was pretty good! I didn't expect anything amazing. It was just a good time. Didn't care for the ending but everything else was good! It's definitely better than it's RT score reflects.
Well, in fairness, every Mummy movie has mostly the same background story. It's the 1999 movie that copied and pasted the exact same backstory as the 1932, 1940 and 1959 movies, so if we could stop referring to that one as revolutionary and genius, that would be nice. This one actually tried to do something slightly different than every other one, so kudos there. Also, did anyone know this is the 14th Mummy movie made? The 1999 movie is NOT the original. It's the 11th Mummy made. I know John didn't say this, but a lot of people have. The 1932 movie is the original and it's pretty dang good. Go watch it. And when you do, you will realize why both the 1999 movie and the 2017 are pretty mediocre at best, although I prefer this 2017 movie over the 1999 one.
Yup this movie is bad... But it did go up just a small notch in my book, when I found out that the airplane scene was done in a zero-g environment.... that was pretty cool.
yo john please do 40 min Q&A from UA-cam comments like the old days.. ps stuckmanns a bitch for not convincing you to watch drabgonball z but he's also cool because he watch dbz
Not enough Brendan Fraser in my opinion
MrKstate21 I was
Hoping he would of made a cameo but I was let down
The Fraser remakes were a CGI infested joke. Not enough scares or practical effects in either to do the original justice.
Jesse Sikora but the original was a good fun adventure film set in Egypt the new mummy wasn't even in Egypt
The original 1932 Karloff film was a classc horror movie, certainly not a "fun adventure" Universal needs to get back to what made these monsters famous in the 1st place.
3:21 Moms spaghetti.
My favorite Monster movie is Fred the movie
You mean Night of the living Fred?
4:50 should've been on the thumbnail
10/10 would click that time stamp again hahaha
Spoiler Alert 🚨
Tom cruise run in the movie
Peter Review i follow on instagram
This movie was _dead_ on arrival
Tom Cruise was awesome in Interview With The Vampire! Does anyone know if they are still working on reboot series for Ann Rice's novels?
I actually went to the cinema to watch two movies.
I watched The Mummy first and I slept halfway through the movie (I was not tired at all)
And then I went to watch WW for the second time in a week.

Great closing thoughts. Totally agree.
Awesome review man keep up the quality content!
I only like the second Mummy movie, it's fun family adventure film.
BirdsElopeWithTheSun it haz some good pacing but fuck dat last part tho, them bad dane"the stone"jackson cgi
Everyone talks about the 99 version but nobody talks about the 32 and 59 versions which are miles better
My favorite monster movie of all time is an American werewolf in London. It's actually my favorite movie of all time. So if that does not count anymore then I would say my favorite monster movie of all time is the thing the version that came out in the 80s
Good to hear your opinions on the movie. I don't think it's two hours though. One and a half I've been informed.
The Wolfman is underrated IMO. Del Tero was fantastic in the lead role.
Tom Cruise running away from bad guys... Where have I seen that before?
What ever video equipment you are using, it looks very clear. The lighting is perfect. Thanks for the video. I always look forward to them. Love your sense of humor.
I love your videos John, they make me forget about life for 10 minutes 😂 you got a flick trip for going to the mummy coming soon?
My favourite part of the movie was with Russell crowe scenes
This is really turning to be a summer of underwhelming potential blockbusters... With the expection of Wonder Woman & GOTG 2... Kinda dissapointed with Hollywood..
Favourite monster movie is actually a animated one !! Monster's INC.(Does that count ??! 😂😅😆)
Another View somebody once told...
oh shit wrong one
Another View Yeah, this summer has been kind of lackluster, with those exceptions aforementioned
Well time to see some indies. I recommend It Comes at Night and Loving Vincent if you get the chance.
I've heard "It Comes..." is really good
Yeah, It comes at Night definitely looks a well crafted flick... I'm thinking of giving that a watch over The Mummy this weekend.. 🤔 At least that wouldn't be underwhelming...
favourite monster movie is 'Jaws', does that count? If not, then probably 'Nosferatu(1922)'
I actually really enjoyed Exodus. Really well directed, and a good time IMO.
only one way to save the Dark Universe , Gilbert Gottfried as Dracula
Love your reviews man.
Awesome video John!
I want to see FlickPick's review to movies like these the most.

The mummy and mummy returns Brendan Fraser addition don't hate me

And people think Scott is a genius PMSL! ;)
Please remake the risky business scene for us. I would pay good money to see that.
Tom Cruise was brilliant in the film The Mummy!! As always keep up the good work!
Best thumbnail expression ever.
Count how many times he says movie
If i not stop to search up the mummy on IMDB im afraid im going to see some criminally low numbers.
I want your shirt! Back to the Future vibes, i wanna watch it 100 times this summer
what a shame was looking forward to a Universal monster cinematic universe oh well
His dead friend was very "An american werewolf in London" wish Tom made a reference at least.
The Phantom of the Opera 1925, Psycho 1960, Halloween 1978 and Da Thang 1982
You can never love Tom Cruise too much♡. Also I agree I love ancient Egypt I wish they made more movies about it
I think chris gave a similar rating... but i'm still excited to go see it because of Tom Cruise. Thing is i'm not a tom cruise fan but he is very entertaining to watch these days... when he isn't too cocky in the older MIs

Quite Simply
JAWS
Tell me, who doesn't hear that Chello while swimming in the Ocean 😨
That movie cook book looks awesome
What shade of lipstick is that bro , holla
Is there an end credit scene?
What I think about this movie is that I'll never waste my time watching it. Four attempts to start a monster shared universe franchise... 'Nuff said.
Have you seen the original MUMMY with Boris Karloff? As a film fan and reviewer, you must! Please review the original Mummy! Put some classics into the mix, brother!
Another year of development and this new 2017 version could have been freak'n fantastic. Example? Trailer #2 is awesome. ☕😆
i buy purchased the first 2 mummy movies in dvd, The mummy returns is my fav!! so many funny moments that i wanna watch again and again
Yes! We need more great prehistoric movies! Wait...are there any great prehistoric movies?
I personally think the best plane crash scene is the one from castaway. I could watch that all day, and it would still feel painful!
favourite monster movie is *Event Horizon* ... yeah it's in space, but it's totally a monster movie
Review of mummy tomb of the dragon emperor

The BVS of the Dark Universe. Am I wrong?
John you haven't talked about Sour Patch Kits in your vids in a while
palms sweats? knees weak arms spaghetti?
You want to see an awesome Creature from the Black Lagoon movie? Dude, just watch the original. It's badass.
Just watch "Monster Squad" if you want to see the universal monsters in the same movie.
Imaginary character reminded me of a character from American Werewolf in London.
well John I am going to see this today.
OFF TOPIC BUT SAD you and Chris stuckmann didn't do an Adam West tribute
Dude, I'd rather you be honest then just always positive about something.
And now, Quotes from the REAL Mummy movie:
"Do you swear!?"
"Every damn day"
*they open the Book of the Dead. Fire flickers* "...That happens a lot around here."
6:29 I feel you man. It's actually really sad.
For me, it's a tie between the original Fright Night and Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Favorite Monster movie... tough one... The Mummy (1999) if that's countable.
Imagine if marvel bought all the monster characters and put them into the MCU and made it make sense
I love your shirt!
You spoiled who Russell Crowe is. Don't do that. I like Bram Stoker's Dracula and American Werewolf in London very much. The first Brendan Frasier Mummy film is great.
Chris Stuckmann avoided revealing who Russel Crowe was in his review.
Why bother this movie is terrible. Plus you can see his name on wikipedia.
Jon Stewart Russel Crowe said who his caracter wars in every featurette, it's not a spoiler.
anthony cheesman I watch the reviews after I see the movie . To see what other people thought of the film. Do I agree with their opinion? But I know many watch these reviews before they see the movie.
If you so much as type this movie into google, you'd see who Crowe is. He didn't spoil anything
hmm. i really enjoy the invisible man from the 30s. that's the good stuff
TheFlickpick can you review A Dogs Purpose and Hannibal Rome's Worst Nightmare.
I just checked out Box Office Mojo and The Mummy has already earned it's budget back and more just from overseas gross.

Favorite monster movie: The Blob (1958) starring Steve McQueen
I watched this movie today and it was pretty good! I didn't expect anything amazing. It was just a good time. Didn't care for the ending but everything else was good! It's definitely better than it's RT score reflects.

My Fav monster movie is probably either Dracula or Gojira
i miss brendan fraser in general but i still wanna see this one. I wish it was r rated though. I wish it was ore of a horror movie
I'd be game if they replaced Tom Cruise with Nathan Fillian and made an Uncharted film. Maybe have Tom Hanks playing Sulley.
John you didn't say the winners for the Popcorn Trivia contest.
I posted them on Twitter and FB a few days ago.
oh
Favorite Universal monster movie ever: The Invisible Man (1933)
would be cool if you did a review on Life. best scifi movie i seen in a while.
Yup this movie is bad... But it did go up just a small notch in my book, when I found out that the airplane scene was done in a zero-g environment.... that was pretty cool.
Hey John I hope you are ok!!! 😥
All the good monster movies came out before I was born
yo john please do 40 min Q&A from UA-cam comments like the old days.. ps stuckmanns a bitch for not convincing you to watch drabgonball z but he's also cool because he watch dbz
I agree with everythng, except The Wolfman remake was great. They did that one right in my opinion.
