Have to be honest, it broke my heart to see the look on Spencer’s face and how hard he was on himself when the sheetrock was cut short. Dude you have do give yourself a bit of grace. The things you have accomplished are extraordinary. I can promise you that when your kids and grand kids talk about what you have done it will be with awe, love, and respect. Your children and their children and their children’s children for generations to come will remember and speak of you with such love and reverence.
Extend to yourself the grace and mercy you shower you family with.

From your best drama series too your favorite comedy shows, they all have something in common. They are actors... the roll they choose to play makes you love them or hate them..! However they are still actor playing a roll to get the check... and this one comes with 1,150,000 subscribers at $1700 a day... so good or bad are you entertained watching them? If you are a subscriber, then they are doing a fantastic job... by the way and completely off subject who is going to insure this self built what ever it is? A box built over a box, with another box inside it...probably end up as a B-n-B on VRBO.... fans would pay stupid money to stay in this for some reason....

It's interesting to see how different another country does a shower. I own a tiling business here in NZ and we use Ardex liquid membrane system. It's so easy and very effective. You just line all the walls as usual but a fibre cement board wall lining is preferable in a shower area. Then each floor/wall/corner joint is filled with silicon and painted with 2 coats of membrane with reinforcing mesh or tape in each corner/wall/floor junction. Viola, done! Preformed tile-to bases are also often used where a level entry shower floor hasn't been formed into the concrete slab. It's also necessary to put lots of wall lining fixings in where tiles are going to fixed and to make sure that the wall lining is rated to take the weight of the tiles you are using. I love this channel. I am so impressed with how much you have both taught yourselves during this build and the quality of your workmanship. You have such a great sense of humour (Mackenzie is such a clown!) and how cute are Miss Beau's curls!

She has been that way from the very beginning. In one of the earliest videos she takes some time to explain Spencer to the viewers. He's a mechanical genius, no joke intended. He is able to sort out mechanical problems and fix them. It was amazing to watch him on this build figuring out, solving, and executing builds and repairs as he goes. He is amazing, really. I married a Spencer, myself. My first major birthday gift to him was a VCR. Now, mind you, it takes me weeks to figure out any electronic connection system, and that's after reading the manual multiple times and many times of trial and error. I had the pleasure of seeing him lay out the wiring and put the system together with the new unit. It took him about an hour, and it was that long because he had to duck out to the electronics store and, on the way back, he ordered and picked up a pizza. The way they understand this complicated area is truly remarkable.

I have a gut feeling you’ll be revisiting the bathroom build in a year or so. Not a builder, but I remember the cement board goes all the way up the wall where you’re going to tile (wet areas hit by the shower). Thought a special drywall (green) is used in areas of high humidity. Prayers for you that I am wrong and all goes well.

I have replaced more toilets than I care to admit in 30+ years. Best method I have come up with is place a large garbage bag opened up on the floor in front of the bowl and set it on it. Then just wrap it up around it. It catches the remaining water when you are carrying it through the house. Oh and by the way I've also cut plenty of rock too short. It happens, no big deal. As many other people have stated your accomplishments thus far are incredible. No prior experience and no help but from your wife. The two of you are doing awesome. Keep the faith and keep up the great work. Is it selfish of me not wanting you to finish? I am enjoying the journey. Thanks for sharing.

11:42 The toilet has a trap you can see from the side. Once the tank is removed and you unbolt the base, you can tilt the toilet backwards a bit, instead of forward, to contain the water in the trap better. However, I agree with the other commenters about putting a bag under the bottom of the toilet before carrying it outside. You "guys" are awesome. Keep up the good work!!!

    Some helpful tips for you:
Get a collared screw gun for your drywall work. WAY faster.
Two, don’t Frankenstein your substrate. Go cbu (cement board) all over where there’s tile. There’s multiple reasons NOT to use gypsum board unless you’re coating a topical all over.
If you use a topical then be sure to use anti-fracture membrane where there’s seems ans change of plane (wall to wall or wall to floor)
Schluter system doesn’t use vinyl pans and if you don’t wanna use their pan and curb system to save money, protect a plywood substrate w poly or roofing paper, tack down hardware cloth, pack one pan (as opposed to pre slope + pan w vinyl) and beer and around a schluter bonded flange drain and then waterproof the hell out of it using the anti fracture membrane.
    Three: nail plates dude.
Four: carry your toilet from disconnect to shower drain or put a trash bag underneath to catch the water from the p trap.
Watch Sal Diblasi on UA-cam. He’s the most trustworthy teacher out there. Or hmu w questions anytime.
