This man is such a thoughtful and well spoken person. It’s shocking at times how candid and honest he is about his experiences, the regrets, the struggles he’s had afterwards, but also how he can admit that he feels his service didn’t make a difference. After all that I imagine it would be tough for a person to continue living without some sense of deeper spiritual purpose and awareness. Repentance you may call it. I know his son is a major part of it but I would love to hear more about his spiritual practices and how he finds the strength to move forward

I know there's a near impossible chance Nicholas will ever read this, but I just wanted to say thank you man. For sharing all of this, I've seen the previous interview and I've just finished hearing this one. Thank you for being real.
For the longest time I've dreamt of becomming a special forces operator, a designated marksman, a sniper, ever since I was little. Deep down I know this desire is thriving off of a part of my ego; the desire to seek some kind of fullfilment or glory that is justified by serving a nation. I know that everything you're saying is true. No sane person wants that job, you have to be a little crazy and although I believe I am that person, I'm glad to tell you that you've sucessfully steered me away from that desire.
I am a 21 year old kid, while I know that people my age might claim to be adults, I know that i'm just a kid with no life experience. I've gone to college and studied "Commerce Economics & Entrepreneurship." Yet that desire of becomming a sniper had always stayed with me. The only reason why I haven't persued "the dream" earlier is because my parents never wanted it for me and would never let me.
And now that i'm older, recently I had again been contemplating to STILL give it a shot, go to bootcamp and all of that. But hearing the truth from you made me finally realize that this is all garbage. Wars are nothing more than cover ups for political figured to launder money. Kids like me who are crazy enough to kill someone in the name of serving a nation are sent to feed off of their egos, while in reality nothing is accomplished during that time of war, possibly comming back scarred for life or not at all.
Killing is killing, no matter how you look at it, and the real ones like you admit to it. The realization and regret that sets in and dictates the rest of your life, it sucks that you had to go through that brother. But I want you to know that you saved a soul by enduring all that and sharing your stories to the public. You prevented me from making a horrible decision that would've changed my life forever; I've officially given up on chasing that deceptive dream.

Digging in a drawing detailed maps with target distances and descriptions is most of the job. We are basically artillery snipers that instead of pulling triggers we radio shots with bombs. We have to compensate for moving targets, weather, what type of target, what type of weapon we’re calling with. “Steele Rain”

To hear two very successful black men discuss Donald Trump without any bias is one of those things that gives me hope for the world. Even if they think or thought he was a huge racist i genuinely believe they think that because of their own observation and experience, not because the media shoves it down their throat. The same way that when I'm talking to an older white guy and they have a genuine, deep admiration for Muhammad Ali or Michael Jordan not just the athlete but the men themselves, and you can't tell by the love they have that they are a free thinker and not concerned with race. That's how i feel with these two. They see race, they recognize everything that goes on, but they dont wake up hating anyone, even if it's justified. That's the kind of person i strive to be. I legitimately try to be the change i want to see in the world. Its dumb but i will wait twice as long as i should to hold the door for a black guy or a family because i feel like man....i know people have done yall wrong and i just want to send the message that this young white guy resoects you bro. Theres nothing I'm too good to do for you and the world may be at war but if you wake up every day trying to be a good person and take care of the people around you idgaf what color you are, you're my type of guy and i want to see you win. Idc if I'm broke man i wanna see you with a million dollars and a bunch of property. These are two men you can trust. No one is manipulating them so however they feel about someone if it differs from me I'm not going to look at them and think....dumbass. If their opinion is different than mine I'm going to look around and say, what am I missing? If Nick says this dude is prejudice and I don't see it... maybe i need to be looking harder. Man if i gotta climb into a fox hole, you bet your ass I wanna do it with men like this.
