Ralph wasn't supposed to be a "Karate expert". He was an amateur who pulled off the upset. It is an underdog story. She obviously has a hang up with the movie and has a pretty nasty attitude about it. After all these years still wanting to bring up that Ralph doesn't come off as an expert even though the movie has stood the test of time and is considered a classic?!? That is some petty stuff right there.
well she is kinda right yes he's the underdog in that film, but she may be honest on not knowing it was going to be that big. hell no one saw star wars or hell even Jaws were going to be as big as they were and they were fucking huge
it comes across as surprisingly harsh and competitive about him for some reason even though she's trying to joke and even takes it back later in the interview, seems conflicted or something
She was a great actress in the Karate kid but she seems to have become a little full of herself. A lot of actors did movies that made them amazing in driving fighting dancing and other stuff but for her to dis Ralph Macchio the way she did is ridiculous. He did great in all three movies and never bragged about being a great Karate expert.
Yeah : it wasn't johnny's radio in the original karate kid film - johnny never had any intention of keeping the radio - johnny was basically using the radio as an extortion tool.
@@johnbanks4761 It's the whole gotta have a see girl, spend film trying to get girl story. They often don't like to bring love interests back. Couple of lines, oh yeah, she went off with a Jock. Whaaat!
When she said Ralph had no credibility as a karate expert, I think she missed the point. He wasn't a karate expert and therefore, had to learn it. Daniel-san was the perfect choice for the Karate Kid. He was kind of a wimpy teenager who developed and grew physically, mentally and spiritually through the instruction, training and friendship of Mr. Miyagi. Ralph Macchio was a great choice for that role. That's one reason the Karate Kid movies are classics that are still popular.
The first is a beloved Cinderella classic icon, the second one rich and worthy with a great romance, the third was just a money grab but had one of the best lines in the series.

It's mad how you guys feel she was jealous. I didn't pick that up at all. I think Ralph Macchio WAS a rather unconvincing Karate expert. I think that's the whole charm of the film! The Karate Kid is legendary and would not be what it is without Ralph. It has gained such a huge following and has remained a classic, so much so that the reboot is doing amazing as well. She seems bitter about its/ Ralph’s great success!
WTF are you talking about? She is not bitter at all. She is just joking about her and Ralph and the fact that he didn't strike her at first as a leading man in a karate film. Which is OBVIOUSLY one of the reasons why they chose him and why the film worked so well. She didn't say a single bad word about Ralph or the movie.

Considering Ralph keeps the soccer ball in the air bouncing off his feet and knees without touching the ground with ease for a sustained period on more than one occasion, I highly doubt Ralph is a poor soccer player..... I'd be willing to bet that Shue couldn't match Ralph's knee repetitions on her best day.....
Exactly!! ...I was thinking the same thing and how many chicks at that age do you know that can skillfully repeatedly balance a soccer ball with their feet.Unless I see old footage of her competently do it then I might believe her.

I find Shue hard to like here. Seems a bit full of herself and can't tell if she's just trying to be funny (and failing), or if she really has a chip on her shoulder regarding Ralph. Btw, Macchio played a karate STUDENT, not an expert, and played it damn well. She was good too, but Ralph, Pat, Kove, and Zabka are the ones everyone remembers first.

He did mention that the last time they saw each other was in 86 at a Mets game and she asked him why she wasn't asked to be in the second movie. Ralph told her he didn't have a say in casting and he was just a hired actor. Maybe she's still bitter about that.
I can't tell if this is genuine or a slam. I actually hope she doesn't appear. And what a bitch to make fun of Ralph. You don't see any of them putting her down for being a dwarf. Kumiko was a better fit for Daniel anyway, so bring back Tamlyn Tomita!
@GeinGrohiik Actually I did get what I want. Tamlyn Tomita returned as well and had a much better character arc, and turned in a much better performance than Shue's awkward appearance.
They didn't include her character in part 2, because she wanted to return to college (Harvard University) she took time off from school to film the first Karate Kid movie, and she was also on hit T.V. series " Call To Glory", with Craig T. Nelson.
Not true, Christian. On one of the KK panels, John Avildsen, who was the director of KK said that she demanded a huge amount of money which they simply couldn't afford. I feel if she wasn't so demanding, they would have written her into not just KK2, but also KK3 as well.

That’s part of the charm of his character. I guess she thought she was the star of the show. The producers stayed away from her in the other movies. Why isn’t she cast in the present show? There is some history with her that isn’t being talked about.
What a bully. Having to demean another person to 'try' to stand out. The Karate Kid movies and new series are all about showing how ignorant bullying is; and this lady went against what the movie is all about. I hope they don't bring her back to the new series.
Maybe she didn't mean it to come out like that (possibly trying to be funny?) but she definitely didn't come across complimentary to Ralph. Ralph and Pat made their roles. Honestly, so did the villains.
Ralph was an actor acting the Karate part, needs to lighten up, just because an actor plays a part doesn't mean they ever were an expert in the real world. Elizabeth knows this very well and needs to act a little less condescending and full of herself.

it's kinda mute the point that ralph have to be really good in martial arts to make a good movie. this movie isn't really about martial arts anyway. first and foremost it's a movie with a good simple story of good vs evil and the triumphant over all adversity. that's really what's life all about. nowadays, you seldom see this type of movie anymore. Movie like first rambo, and even the crossroads. Again, good vs evil and about life in general. people, in general nowadays are having too good a life. They want everything fast and full of actions. They don't have the patience and the intellect or maybe they think they know everything. It's all mechanical and cold today. That reflects on the thing we used to love like music and movies or even the way we live. :P

I was 14 when the karate kid came out. I was madly in love with her. I took three months of karate lessons and then tried to talk my parents into driving me out to LA so I could try to win her love with my karate skills and my winning smile.
Well to be honest, I rewatched Karate Kid last year and was sorta shaking my head at the idea that a girl like her would go for a guy like him. She totally would've stayed with the preppy pricks. And come to think of it, her character had ditched Daniel-san by the beginning of Karate Kid 2! So maybe there _was_ some realism there after all, ha! Damn you, Hollywood, for raising us with false expectations! *_DAMN YOU!!!_* :-D
Daniel lost too girls. He lost Ali after the first film and then he lost Kamiko after the second film. That second fight was to the death too. So in the third movie he didn't real serious with the girl in that movie.
You mean, she's just mad that in a formulaic saccharine cliched cringey 80s movie, she was the only glowing spark, even though she was a B-character? Oh, now you realize why she's not mad and just gagging in this interview.
voutespancar she didn’t compare them ... she just said that she didn’t start acting with karate kid... and that she had been acting five years prior that... and one of her first job was being in the Burger King commercial
There's a whole scene in Cobra Kai where Daniel and Johnny are talking about Ali, and Daniel shows Johnny her facebook profile... :-P It's pretty funny.
Uh huh. Someone was in love with Ralph Macchio and got rejected. This makes me think maybe they had something going but he was devoted to his girlfriend in the end (apparently he's been with his wife since he was 15), because she's acting like a jilted lover.
Let’s be honest, Ms. Shue’s role could’ve been played by ANYONE. Ralph and Pat were the film. The meat of the film was the relationship and chemistry between the two of them. Kinda disappointing to hear Ms. Shue’s take on Ralph’s character. Ralph wasn’t supposed to be a “karate expert”. He was just supposed to be trained good enough to win a tournament. That’s it.
i have seen ralph play in a lot of movies and outside of the film world and hes REALLY good and she only played in one movie with him so how would she know if shes better then him..??? shes not better then him period
And there are people saying that Cobra Kai is pretty unrealistic, being about two middle aged man still not over their 80s High School banter. Well... than watch this interview. A middle aged actress still not over a minor role she played in an 80s High School movie. 😄
Wow you all can't tell when someone's messing around. P.S. Ralph Macchio was specifically chosen because he didn't know anything about karate and he was this skinny little kid. Her reaction was the same as everyone's. That's why the movie works.
All I’m saying is, there is a reason they killed her off at the end of season 1 in “The Boys” and never casted her for karate kid 2,3 or Cobra Kai. When she talks about scoring brownie points in her family even being in a Tom cruise movie and having power, I just think it’s all about her. She wants to look dynamic and will do anything to do so, like throw Ralph under the bus.
If she is kinda salty towards Ralph I couldn’t imagine why, cause Ralph was just the actor they chose, he’s not the producer, he was just there because somebody thought he should be there. If she is mad, she’s mad at the wrong guy.
I saw the movie, Karate Kid.. when it was released. I would say to this day, it's one of my most beloved theatrical releases which I think escapes even this actor that were closest to it and trusted to keep it classy.. Which she fails to do. Who really gives a Rat's ass if she was, or remains fine? It's shallow. Anymore, here's another example where I'd like to let the original story just speak for itself. And keep it as a good memory. It does beat a typical snowflake liberal arts degree when after graduation, their first words are, “Your latte is ready.” Relevancy is an open ended word. Some people find relevance in marriage and children. Other’s find it in 20 min. UA-cam serials. I find it incredibly amusing that there are Ralph Macchio sycophants.
I think she’s spent a lot of time reminding people she stared in a movie with Tom Cruise. But everybody remembers her for.......... “ The Karate Kid!!!!” Hye Ya!👊
Well, there's been a ton of people in movies with Tom Cruise, I mean obviously, because he has done a ton of movies lol.
Plen122 what’s your point mate?
And for “Adventures In Babysitting”.
Haha I never watch her in a film with Tom before.
I actually went to see the Karate Kid when it came out and my impression of her was she was the standard "love interest". Did not miss her at all in the sequels.
Agreed! That role could’ve been filled with anyone and she was not very special or memorable to me. Her ego is way bigger than her actual role. Smh
I dunno what you mean fellas, the bitch stole my heart fml cheers lads
Wow, she really dissed Ralph Macchio. Not sure that's very attractive.
Okay. To most people it looked playful, but you do whatever it is you're doing. Have fun with that, the rest of us will enjoy the interview.
dosent matter what you think. She's been married since 94
She's just making point that back in the early 80s prior to the movie being made that making a movie starring a scrawny guy like Ralph as a bad ass is kind of hard to believe. Hindsight is 20/20, the movie ended up fantastic.
@@allnamesaretakenful i agree not to playful, so you do what you are doing idiot
Maybe trying to be funny but she just flat seems to be a bitch who has problems with Ralph and the movie. Maybe mad she got old and isn’t hot anymore like she used to be I guess.
Ralph Macchio was a perfect choice for a scrawny kid who gets beat up by athletic bullies.
He wasnt too believable as the kid who fights back and wins against the bullies though.
The kid Miguel in Cobra Kai looked wimpy too imho. And so did Hawk.
@@vanmoody , I was a skinny, scrawny kid and a dork that loved nothing more than to read books and be left alone. I never worked out or learned how to fight. I also had a short temper, no fear, a very hard head and very fast hands that hit hard. I looked wimpy and as a result, had to fight a lot and was very good at it! Guys that took Karate tried me a couple of times and it didn't end well for them.
@@shawnj1966 I promise to be nice to you always. lol I'm in my 50's and a grandpa.
Now i understand why Ralph doesn’t like her lol. I wonder why she felt the need to talk so much trash about him.
Seems like a very arrogant person. She was least important main character in karate kid.
@Joel Johnson That's the whole part of the movie. A weakling learns to defend himself. Guess her Harvard degree didn't make her smart.
@Joel Johnson The theory of martial arts is to use your opponents strength against themselves. That is why a smaller weaker person can defend themselves against a bigger stronger man.
She was much more athletic than Ralphie so she was just stating a fact and more importantly, she was just being funny. It’s cute to see people defending a 57 year old man.
@@TowGunner Chuck Norris said he wasn't a good athlete. Martial arts and Athletics are two different things.
@Joel Johnson Yeah, they could have done a better job of explaining their break-up. They could have had her family move across the country and her go to college across the country or even in Europe.
So, is she getting a cameo in Cobra Kai? (sarcasm). Oh, she was in "Leaving Las Vegas" so she is a "serious" actress.... Ralph was in "The Outsiders" and directed by Coppola so stick that in yer pipe Lizzy.
Do it for Johnny, man
She was great in that film.
She has had a better post Karate Kid career than Ralph and William. At least until Cobra Kai.
Stay Gold pony boy
The outsiders was before KK.
Watch Ralph’s interview by Collider.. Last time they talked was in the late 80’s, Ralph saw her by chance.. She was bitter on why the powers that be wrote her off the franchise in such a negative light. And asked if Ralph knew any details about it. But of course he didn’t..
She doesn't strike me as a happy person. Not sure why. Is it her home life or career? She was not meant to be the star of Karate Kid. She was only the GF.
yeah and usually female stars lose careers sooner than men
@@novadhd sadly, women are not as desired when they age. She's too old to play a young, sexy blonde anymore. She can be a sexy grandma but that's about it. She really does come off bitter. She's been through something.
Shes mean. Good actress, but not a legend like Ralph. Shes lucky that Ralph is so nice. He'd forgive her for this.
I'm pretty sure all the ribbing is in fun :). And she *does* have an Oscar nomination, fwiw. I like Ralph, but let's face it, Sir Lawrence Olivier doesn't have too much to worry about in the acting dept.
Ralph Macchio has the same skills as martial artist as me as brain surgeon: nothing at all.
You know them all so well!
@Mike Demirdjian Ralph has been in two classic movies. The Outsiders and The Karate Kid, that alone makes him a legend. He did other underrated movies such as Crossroads and Teachers. And I’m not even talking about My Cousin Vinnie.
Ralph IS The Karate Kid, but he is also well known as Johnny Cade, Eugene and Gambini. Give the guy some credit. He is a class act. I’m just hoping that this was just a bad day in the office for Elisabeth Shue, because this interview makes her look pretty bad.
Wow, she just took a big dump on Ralph in this interview.
uret7 She might be into that sort of thing..
uret7 she f***** Rick James trying to switch over after Rock died and rap took over
I was waiting for that one disturbed person to respond. Thx for ringing the bell.
Relax bud, never claimed I wasnt.
A playful dump.
Eisen: So Karate Kid must've been an incredible start to a career...
Shue: I was already in the business for 5 years before Karate Kid, ya know.
Eisen: Oh really? What else?
Shue: a Burger King commercial? Hello????
she thinks she s still 20 in her mind only.
Maybe she is just really horrible at sarcasm? Lol.
She looked horrible here, I agree
She had already been in one film, and one made for TV movie as well....
@@shooter7a She was an extra in both, if u blinked u missed her and it was 2 years prior NOT 5... she got more screen time in the Burger King ad which is likely why she didn't even mention anything else..
What a "ditz"!
She has changed but she still looks good
Camille Coopersmith Hell yes she's still a major cutie.
Natural old. A rarity in plastic Hollywood.
She looks even better.
gast128 She's close to natural. There's Botox in all the right places in her face
35 years will cause a little change
it's kinda mute the point that ralph have to be really good in martial arts to make a good movie. this movie isn't really about martial arts anyway. first and foremost it's a movie with a good simple story of good vs evil and the triumphant over all adversity. that's really what's life all about. nowadays, you seldom see this type of movie anymore. :P
freaker126 too true
That beautiful laugh of this charming lady!
She still looks fantastic for having a 19 year old! Also I think most guys growing up in the 80's had a crush on Elizabeth Shue after Advetures in Babysitting. LOL
Ryan Deffley --- Well, it was seeing Karate Kid as a young boy that did it for me!
looking back on that movie she didnt really have all that trouble. they should have added 2 more kids
Haha..Seemed like plenty of trouble with her boyfriend cheating on her, her best friend stranded as a sketchy bus station, and three kids she was taking care of being chased by criminals. Not to mention the gang fight. :D
Yep....her and the chick that played Sabrina the teenage witch...
I was 14 when the karate kid came out. I was madly in love with her. I took three months of karate lessons and then tried to talk my parents into driving me out to LA so I could try to win her love with my karate skills and my winning smile.
Guess she can say anything she wants, nobody is watchin this show
Oops you're pretty much wrong
Lol this video has 1 million views, 1 million people have been watching this show
This comment aged like milk🥛
I can’t believe that my biggest 80’s crush has this kind of a personality. That’s such a heartbreak
Hoo hoo hoo 😀.
@H C she's selfish
@H C lol ok bud
I agree, what a turnoff
Relax folks she playing you guys. Ralph and Elizabeth are good friends. Ralph is so laid back and not "Hollywood" at all...
*_DAMN YOU!!!_*
:-D
ModernPlague 😆
She was experimenting
Daniel lost too girls. He lost Ali after the first film and then he lost Kamiko after the second film. That second fight was to the death too. So in the third movie he didn't real serious with the girl in that movie.
eh I don't know, back in the 80s more 'it' girls would go for guys like that than I think in the late 90s or later
haha awesome, thanks for the laughs!
My crush just crashed.. thx for the memories MS. SHUE. But I can’t look at you the same way ever after watching this.. i am truly bummed..
She’s just mad that in a culturally epic and defining landmark movie, she was merely a side character
She was beautiful tho and very nice
You mean, she's just mad that in a formulaic saccharine cliched cringey 80s movie, she was the only glowing spark, even though she was a B-character? Oh, now you realize why she's not mad and just gagging in this interview.

Lol at her comparing Burger King commercial to a Big Movie like Karate Kid.
voutespancar she didn’t compare them ... she just said that she didn’t start acting with karate kid... and that she had been acting five years prior that... and one of her first job was being in the Burger King commercial
Anony Mouse don’t be a knob
T B sweet that you’re defending your boyfriend
@@tb2324 lolll 😂😉👏👏 love your comment!!
Her dissing of Ralph Macchio is very disappointing! Not nice!
So funny Americans don't get irony.
@@janebrown896 yeah man, wtf.
Ralph is the only reason we know who she is. She would still be doing commercials for Burger King...
@@janebrown896 it was disrespectful.
minyra r I'm sure they're friends and they have a relationship where they can tease each other. It's very British actually.
wow if this isn’t a joke then she’s extremely self centred
And there are people saying that Cobra Kai is pretty unrealistic, being about two middle aged man still not over their 80s High School banter. Well... than watch this interview. A middle aged actress still not over a minor role she played in an 80s High School movie. 😄
I think people underestimate how formative high school years can be towards people's development.
Wow you all can't tell when someone's messing around.
P.S. Ralph Macchio was specifically chosen because he didn't know anything about karate and he was this skinny little kid. Her reaction was the same as everyone's. That's why the movie works.
That is what I thought too.
I thought Rich not catching it made it harder for other not to too.
That‘s our new society culture... a bunch of whiny snowflakes... no wonder they have a perfect representation in the office :-D
Yes, she was messing around when she said she was first in the business when she did a Burger King commercial.
Admit it. You despise women. We ALL see it. lol
Ralph and William Zabka had much more presence in the movie than she did. Elisabeth Shue was an annoying little brat
I'm disapointed in her
How awful
If she is kinda salty towards Ralph I couldn’t imagine why, cause Ralph was just the actor they chose, he’s not the producer, he was just there because somebody thought he should be there. If she is mad, she’s mad at the wrong guy.
She wasn’t mad. She was laughing. Did you see The Karate Kid? Daniel LaRusso was built like a twig.
she probably had a thing for him.
Concerned One
You don’t have to look like a bodybuilder to win. Besides I bet the real Ralph can kick your a** and hers too.
novadhd
Probably, why people are so stupid, I can’t be mad at any producers, I won’t get a job, so I’ll just be mad at Ralph.
Chelo Figueroa she wasn’t mad. She was laughing.

See Ya Beth.
Todd Bradshaw You are exactly right. She's ruining the movie for me. Won't be watching any more of her interviews.
