    My water broke before my contractions started. It took more than 24 hours to get to 10. Literally nothing changed for hours... and then i got to 6, and things just plataued again. For even longer. And my epidural didnt wirk on the left side. Like, at all. It hurt SO much more than anyone said. I couldn't believe it could hurt that much and have so little a result.
    (I finally got to the active labor stage and in a mood of solidarity, i guess, my kid decided not to drop down. At all. For hours. Not a millimeter of downward progress. And the back labor by that point. I couldn't physically breathe during the contractions because the back pain was so intense. Id be dizzy and gasping for air by the end of each one, then cry hysterically until they started again. Then scream in agony until i ran out of air. Rinse wash repeat. It was unbelievable to me. And they kept sending nurses in to lecture me about being quiet because i was bothering the women in other rooms. Like, what? How do they not understand? We're all apparently in for hell. I heard lots of screaming while i was not dilating, for hours. I didnt send a nurse to tell THEM to be quiet! It was involuntary anyway. I couldn't be quiet if my life depended on it.
    After 26 and a half hours my dr came in to check again and i yelled at him the second he stepped in the doorway we needed a new plan. So we elected for a c section. No regrets. Still had multiple complications healing. But no regrets. )

      It was not a great hospital. It was well known in town you didn't want to go to cape fear unless you had no other choice. (Yes, literally called Cape Fear hospital. I think it was after the local river near by).
      They also refused my request to not bring students in for the check ins. They asked the first time, I said I'm sorry, I know it's important for them to learn, but this is my first time doing this and I already feel too scared and vulnerable as is. Please no students.
      They just brought the students anyway and didn't tell me they were until on the way out.
      The nurses were almost all horrible. They never said anything nice, or in a nice way. I got stuck there for 4 days because I got an infection. I wanted to try and breastfeed. They spent the entire 4 days telling me I couldn't handle breastfeeding and I needed to just give up and do bottles. They also repeatedly told me they didn't think I could handle being a mother because I was freaking out over nothing all the time. They took him away for a day and wouldn't let me see him because his potassium and blood sugar had dropped and the dr wanted him monitored for 24 hours to make sure it raised. They interpreted this to mean I couldn't see him. They didn't even want his dad to go see him (he got temporarily put in the nicu). They tried to tell him he couldn't visit and he asked where that was written in their policy, and asked to see a copy of it for proof and they got mad and took him down to visit but spent the whole time warning him they didn't think I could handle taking the baby home and he would need to watch me closely.
      I got no sleep the entire 4 days because their blood pressure cuff setting was so tight it felt like it was breaking my arm, and it automatically went off every 10 minutes. All for 4 days. I started hallucinating on day 3 from lack of sleep. That didn't help my credibility in their eyes.
      I asked for a lactation consult because we were struggling and the only nurse on duty for that just stomped in, yanked my baby into her arms, yanked my boob out of my gown, smashed them together until my baby cried, told me that's how you latch, and stomped out again. That was my extra help.
      There's more. It was a long, miserable 4 days. And even after the dr cleared me to go home, she nurse who brought the discharge papers tried to get me to fight to stay longer "because you aren't ready to be a mother. Your baby needs to stay here longer" it was insane. The whole experience was so humiliating and soul crushing. But that was the hospital my insurance covered so that was my only choice.
      We've moved states since then. I'm hoping kid 2s hospital one day will be different but who knows.

      My labors always looked like they completely stalled, and we were going to be there for hours and hours only for everything to go into overdrive with baby born less than an hour later.
      Sped up labor also correlated with getting that epidural. I’ll never know if the epidural helped me relax, allowing labor to progress or if I got the epidural right at the time labor had started moving along on its own.

I would've had him a bit sooner if my partner at the time didn't threaten to call an ambulance if I pushed him out before the midwife arrived lol. Kinda had to refrain from pushing with that pressure pressing down on my cervix, but I did it. I didnt want meds but by the 3rd day and only dilated to a 5. I then got iv meds to help take the edge off.( i didnt want meds but realistically i knew i cant do pain) ended up getting my epidural and then later that night we had a c section.. every labor story is crazy in my opinion. I think its the closest to death we could get. Labor and delivery nurses are heaven sent. Ive gone through some of my most worst moments with them by my side. Thank u to all nurses!

    My cervix wouldn’t progress either but my contractions were in line with active labor. Ended up being in labor for 4 days because of it. And because I wasn’t dilating, the hospital wouldn’t admit me. Finally got a nurse that literally lied about how dilated I was and got me IV fluids and an epidural which allowed me to rehydrate since I couldn’t keep up with water intake and relax enough to let things move along. They had to wake me up to push. 3 pushes and she was out.

My ex took me back the third time in 12 hours and basically told them he wasn’t taking me home again, if I wasn’t in labor, fine, but SOMETHING was wrong and they needed to figure it out. I was admitted and induced at 38w3d when my BP spiked out of nowhere. I was having contractions and 1cm dilated when I first got to the hospital. 3 rounds of induction failed to get me anywhere and after 42 hours of labor I had a c-section (20 hours after my water broke and I had started to spike a fever). I only made it to 6cm and at one point I was 100% effaced and then worked backwards to 80%. I didn't know that was possible. Turns out my sons head was so large that the pressure from him attempting to descend caused a bunch of swelling. I am super lucky that he and I were both healthy. Looking back, I should have stuck to my guns about not being induced. By the time I was seen by a doctor in the hospital, my blood pressure had stabilized. We could have waited but honestly they scared the crap out of me and my husband. I couldn't think. Baby #2 is currently loading and this time I am taking time off starting at 36 weeks. Also - my son has grown into his head lol

      That was my story. For the most part. Right when the pain could no longer be ignored, a group of interns came in, and all wanted to check me. Then, we also needed an emergency Csection because his heart rate plummeted with every contraction. Turns out, he was breach, and his little butt was stuck in the birth canal. His poor little butt was one giant bruise for a while.

    I could never labor for so long. I usually get to the birthing center around 3cm (usually spend the last few weeks dilated around 2-3cm and mostly effaced, but still deliver past my due date every time!). Then I have my baby a few hours later, with my fastest being only 1.5hrs of active labor. I can't imagine being in labor for HOURS 😭 pregnant with my 4th now and please, please let it be another easy delivery ❤

I warned my doctors on children 2 and 3, and they wouldn't believe me until they were running in to catch the baby. My sister was worse. If her water broke and she wasn't in the hospital, she'd drop that baby where she was.

    Lol sounds like my first birth! Over 36 hrs of back labor so painful that I couldn't eat or sleep. Bruises on my back from having my husband apply counter pressure to help with the pain. 3 trips to the hospital and back before they would finally admit me, as I "wasn't dilated enough" to be admitted earlier. Got an epidural and a nap and he was born a few hours later. Most traumatic experience, doctors and nurses telling me they know more than me and I couldn't possibly have been in labor that long or that it hurt that bad. Then they tried to sneak an unconsented non-fda approved medication to me in order to stall my labor and force me to get the c section I previously said no thank you to. Turns out he was sunny side up. Needless to say, I've had 4 homebirths since, and wonderful midwives, so I wouldn't have to set foot in a hospital for birth again.

    My mom was in labour with my brother for 7/8 hours. When I was coming she was preparing herself for so long, to get me out in under 20 minutes. The doctor was like: "Guess she was sick of being inside." My mom would always brag how I must've hated it in there to get out so quickly.

    • @harringt100
      @harringt100 6 місяців тому

    • @WonderingWildWanderingRose
      @WonderingWildWanderingRose 5 місяців тому

      @@harringt100it's possible she was effacing and dilating unnoticed, or that she was just doing both simultaneously and quickly. Fast labor like that can be incredibly intense, was if you are compacting all those "normal" hours and painful intensity together into a smaller time frame. My longest(easiest) birth was my first at 4 hours. The other 2 got shorter and shorter. All 3, got to the hospital too late for anything but local anesthetic. Despite the time, I've been amazed at how different each pregnancy, labor and delivery has been, so it doesn't surprise me at all, especially for a second child, that it went so fast.

    My first childbirth was 52 hours in labor!!!! My cervix would NOT dilate due to scar tissue and I was at a Catholic hospital and they REALLY didn’t want to call a cesarean. Finally I’d been in labor so long my daughter was trapped in the birth canal and we both started full on dying. My blood pressure tanked, my epidural had time to literally wear off, and once they deemed it a serious emergency and finally passed the on call doctor, he was over an hour away. By the time he got there things were SO bad. They wheeled me into the surgery room and started cutting as the anesthesia was being administered so I felt EVERYTHING. I was losing so much blood and when they finally pulled the baby out she wasn’t breathing. It took a while to revive her and they ended up putting me to sleep. I ended up having to get a large blood transfusion and they had to rush my baby to another hospital with a NICU and since I was in such bad shape I couldn’t go with her. It was terrible!!!!! They wouldn’t clear me to go see her for 3 whole days. I literally had PTDS and postpartum depression after this experience.

    Thank you for normalizing slow labors. Mine were 36, 27, 19, and 46 hours. I delivered all four vaginally (EVENTUALLY 😂) and I’m so grateful I had midwives who understood that as long as baby and I were fine we could trust the process.
    If you don’t WANT to labor for 2 days, you don’t have to. But if you don’t want a c-section and you and baby are handling labor well, you can keep going. It’s exhausting, but at least I didn’t have to have unnecessary (for me, in my case) surgery.
    The key is to think about all of this BEFORE labor and to be flexible once you’re in labor.

    It grinds my gears so much that people make Women feel bad for accepting pain relief when we’re giving birth - I ended up with an emergency c-section after being in active Labour for about 5 hours and trying to push my Son out for about an hour an half with zero progress, he became stuck and was in distress and needed to be whacked in for an emergency c-section.
    The aftermath of the c-section has been bad, I have so many uterine issues now from the scar tissue and invasion of my uterus - but even after all this, my Sister still tried to make me feel bad by telling me it’s “the easy way out, I had to give birth to all mine naturally!” And my Mum (R.I.P) taunted me about my massively swollen tummy, calling me fat and comparing me to her when she had a c-section with me - even though my tummy was massive because it was actually still very inflamed even over a month afterwards - I still looked pregnant. It was horrible.
    It gets me so mad. 😡 Come on girls, we need to be supporting each other, not competing with each other - this mentality really encourages Women to not accept pain relief for one of the most painful things they will ever go through in their lives!

It’s crazy - if we can make our process easier….why the heck wouldn’t we?! lol!

And his head was in my cervix but couldn't come out cause it wasn't open enough and even with epidural it heart like hell .

Then after hours with that I got an epidural. Last time they checked me was 12 pm and I was still 5cm and 2.10 pm my baby was out. Pushed maybe 10-15 minutes at most so that part was easy compared to the pain before.

    Nurses have said with both my births "your contractions just aren't strong enough and you aren't progressing fast enough, let's give you pitocin and break your water and get things moving along faster" how about no. I had a 17 hour long excruciating labor with no pain meds and they gave me pitocin and IV antibiotics with my firstborn but I wasn't letting anyone put that in my body during labor again. My second labor was 11 hours long no pitocin or pain meds and the nurse and midwife were angry with me thst I wouldn't hurry up and have a baby so they could bill for the birth on their shift. As soon as they left me alone, I was able to relax and my water broke on its own and my daughter was born within 15 min. I wouldn't have been able to handle the pain without TENS unit between L2-L3. Both times the nurses said it was hospital policy that I had to have continuous monitoring and lay perfectly still on the bed without moving at all. YOU try laying perfectly still for hours while in pain!
